Fox Turns the Duke Rape Case Into One of Race, Class Warfare and Impeachment December 23, 2006 11:17 AM

Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Fox's "business news" program opened today with two segments about the dismissal of rape charges against the three Duke University lacrosse team members. After a report by Fox's Marianne Silber, substitute host David Asman turned to a six-person roundtable panel (including Asman) to discuss the matter, yet despite the number of participants, there was only one line of thought.

Tawana Brawley and African-American leaders will be hesitant to step up and try to go forward with these kind of accusations unless they're fleshed out."

Powell stepped in to offer a bit of sanity: "Every prosecutor has to take accusations like this seriously, they have to investigate it," and then Reagan wrapped the segment up: "Everyone overreacted here...punished the school because of an accusation and nobody's been found guilty of anything but simply by playing the race card...everybody lost their jobs and reputations. How do you get that back?"

Comment: Yes, it sounds like a lot of overreacting took place, including that of Duke University, I might add. However, instead of examining the societial pressures that influenced the actions of all the parties involved, Fox itself is seizing the opportunity and overreacting in order to drive yet more wedges between us all.

And here we have the lovely Michael Savage..... December 23, 2006 1:10 PM

Savage: Arabs are "non-humans" and "racist, fascist bigots"

The following are excerpts from Michael Savage's May 11 and May 12 radio show, Savage Nation, that highlight his views of Arabs, immigrants, and minorities. In the course of the shows, Savage called Arabs "non-humans" and "racist, fascist bigots"; asserted that Americans would like to "drop a nuclear weapon" on any Arab country; and that "these people" in the Middle East "need to be forcibly converted to Christianity" in order to "turn them into human beings." Savage also claimed that, in the United States, "You can never hear about the bad things they [minorities] do"; he also said that the San Francisco Chronicle has "become a pornography rag, anti-American and just nothing but around-the-clock stupidity, and written on the lowest possible level. Now it could be because of the large number of immigrants here, I don't really know."

Savage on Arabs:

From the May 12 Savage Nation:

Right now, even people sitting on the fence would like George Bush to drop a nuclear weapon on an Arab country. They don't even care which one it would be. I can guarantee you -- I don't need to go to Mr. Schmuck [pollster John] Zogby and ask him his opinion. I don't need anyone's opinion. I'll give you my opinion, because I got a better stethoscope than those fools. It's one man's opinion based upon my own analysis. The most -- I tell you right now -- the largest percentage of Americans would like to see a nuclear weapon dropped on a major Arab capital. They don't even care which one. They'd like an indiscriminate use of a nuclear weapon. They want this over with. One thing people cannot live with, which is an undefined, limitless conflict, which is what we have now. They can't take it. They want this war over with, and they want it ended like the war against Japan. They'd like Big Boy dropped on one of the little cities over there. They don't care where. They don't care any more. The American people have had it up to here with this garbage.

In fact, Christianity has been one of the great salvations on planet Earth. It's what's necessary in the Middle East. Others have written about it, I think these people need to be forcibly converted to Christianity but I'll get here a little later, I'll move up to that. It's the only thing that can probably turn them into human beings.

I'm going to give you one further example from my background as an anthropologist just so that you -- I'm trying to put context on this because you can go crazy if you don't have the context on this, because I'm going to lead up to something of what we must do to these primitives. Because these primitives can only be treated in one way, and I don't think smallpox and a blanket is good enough incidentally. Just before -- I'm going to give you a little precursor to where I'm going. Smallpox in a blanket, which the U.S. Army gave to the Cherokee Indians on their long march to the West, was nothing compared to what I'd like to see done to these people, just so you understand that I'm not going to be too intellectual about my analysis here in terms of what I would recommend, what Doc Savage recommends as an antidote to this kind of poison coming out of the Middle East from these non-humans.

 December 23, 2006 1:15 PM

From the May 11 Savage Nation:

Most Americans don't know who these guys were. They thought they were just dragged off the street, which is the disinformation being put out by the communistic anti-American Red Cross. Well, you trust the Red Cross? You must be joking. Take a look at what they've done to the Jewish people in Israel. The lies they've spewn about Israel. A little country [Israel] surrounded by racist, fascist bigots who don't want anyone but themselves living in that hell hole called the Middle East.

Savage on minorities:

From the May 12 Savage Nation:

And as the churches have been emptying out, the mosques have been filling up, in France and Germany. We all know that but we're all looking other way. And now street gangs of young Muslims are beating up and killing people in France and of course you don't read about that either. Because during a revolutionary period you've got to understand that there's a story line and the storyline is they're the oppressed minority and therefore they can do no wrong. It's very much like the American minorities here in this country. You can never hear about the bad things they do. It's hush-hush but if a Timothy McVeigh should come along, then it gets front page coverage. Because the story line goes that white male, Christian, heterosexuals are evil and all of the others are -- are -- are victims and only getting their just rewards by fighting back.

Savage on immigrants:

From the May 12 Savage Nation:

For example, here's a newspaper called The San Francisco Chronicle where I live. It was once a really good newspaper when I moved here in '74. It's [the San Francisco Chronicle] become a pornography rag, anti-American and just nothing but around-the-clock stupidity, and written on the lowest possible level. Now it could be because of the large number of immigrants here, I don't really know. Maybe they figure if they keep it simple, the storyline -- I don't know.

Dennis Miller’s Insensitive Message For Obama: Being Vice President Worse Than Racial Disenfranchise December 24, 2006 3:34 AM

Friday night (12/22/06) on Hannity & Colmes, Miller “poked fun” at Barack “Osama Obama” by making racial jokes. I wonder who was laughing. With video.

As has become the norm on FOX News, any discussion of Obama is really a pretext to bash Hillary Clinton, too. Miller took it one step further by also making snide accusations against Bill Clinton. Miller started with a racist innuendo. “Obama’s striving to become America’s 2nd black president after, of course, Hillary Clinton’s husband, Bill.” The screen showed Clinton with his arms around three black kids. That was followed by a few “comic” barbs about Hillary being on the scent of the presidency like a cheetah smelling steak tartare and Slim Jim shavings.

“Is Obama sharp enough to realize who’s gonna eventually do him in?” Miller asked. “One hopes that he doesn’t have the ‘Et tu, Bubba’ look on his face when (the Clintons) do it.”

According to Miller, Obama has only way to save himself from the Clintons, by accepting the vice presidency “and the sooner, the better.”

But Miller obviously doesn’t want Obama to save himself. Miller urged Obama not to accept the job. Miller did it with an insulting pretense at being a “soul” mate. “Now, Obama has no doubt felt disenfranchised as a black man at times during his life. But he ain’t seen disenfranchisement until he’s vice president. It doesn’t get any further out of the loop than attending funerals for former agriculture ministers in Vladivostock in late November.” Calling a ceremonial job worse than racial discrimination? I doubt Obama - or anyone else - will buy that.

Miller argued that turning down the vice presidency would be a test of character for Obama. Hmm, do you think Miller's advice comes from the goodness of his heart (assuming he has any) or a fear that "Shrillery" might win with Obama on the ticket?

Perhaps thinking he was offering a carrot, Miller claimed he might vote for Obama. “First, I’d have to see if he’s willing to pre-emptively kill radical Islamic terrorists (he showed footage of a man in Arab gear, fondling a rifle) because that’s all I’m really looking for in a president these days. Everything else is gravy.”

Unless your name is Clinton.

Fox Insists Calling Democrats, Dems & Guest Says New Immigration BIll Is The Nightmare Of The Mid Te December 26, 2006 3:42 PM

Today on Fox On Line, Greg Jarrett substituted for Bill Hemmer and was joined by right wing radio host Mike Gallaher and left wing radio host Rob Thompson for a look at the new bill being submitted regarding illegal immigration.

Of course, since it was submitted by the Democrats, Gallagher called it "the nightmare of the mid term elections." He said it still looks like amnesty.

Jarrett spoke with Thompson and Jarrett said that the Republican's former bill of trying to get 7 million illegals to leave the country didn't make any sense, that there was no way to do this. Thompson agreed with him about the Republican bill.

Jarrett let Gallagher finish up by saying that a fence over 700 miles was "a good idea" and we shouldn't be making things easier for illegal immigrants.

All of this was under the banner, 'House Dems Consider Less Restrictive Bill On Illegals.'

Let's not forget that they also refer to the NY state SENATOR as "Hillary" in a derogatory way....will "Madame President" be off limits to Fascist News Network????

Bill O'Reilly's Conflict of Interest January 06, 2007 11:47 AM

On Friday's edition of The O'Reilly Factor, during a Talking Points Memo on Iraq, host Bill O'Reilly mentioned a company called Stratfor. He cited a report that Stratfor had produced that he claimed contradicted statements made by NBC's Tom Brokaw about the aftermath of the execution of Saddam Hussein. However, O'Reilly did not bother to disclose to his viewers that he has an ongoing business connection with Stratfor.

BILL O'REILLY: "Next week President Bush will announce his plans to stabilize things in Iraq, a plan that will most likely include sending more American troops to that chaotic country. Now, clear thinking people understand that the war in Iraq has not gone well. Here's what I said on this broadcast 18 months ago."

Begin VIDEO CLIP:

Bill O'Reilly, June 29, 2005: "President Bush must be held accountable for what happens from here on in. I think it's fair to give the military one more year to train the Iraqis to fight for themselves. If things are awful in Iraq this time next year, then it will be fair to say that the Bush administration has failed in that country,"

End VIDEO CLIP.

O'REILLY: "And so it was. Things did not improve in Iraq and the American people voted the Republicans out. So now all loyal Americans have a decision to make.

"Should we support one final effort to defeat the enemy in Iraq?

"I say 'yes'.

"If Iraq can be stabilized and become a country that fights against terror, that would be a huge win not only for the USA but for the entire world. There is now a new US commander in Iraq - General Petraeus - and although more lives will be lost, I believe the right thing to do is to give the effort a bit more time.

"But I respect dissent on this. I could be wrong. Maybe the Iraqi people simply will not do what is necessary to have freedom. But I don't respect Americans who want the USA to lose in Iraq because they hate Bush or any other reason."

O'Reilly went on to make his by-now hackneyed claims that the "liberal" media - especially NBC and MSNBC - are refusing to give President Bush any support for his new plan for the "Way Forward in Iraq".

He aired video clips of Chris Matthews of MSNBC questioning Sen. James Webb about the sanity of a "surge" approach and of Tom Brokaw speaking about how badly the execution of Saddam Hussein was handled. (Later in the show, during an accusatory and belligerent interview with NBC's Andrea Mitchell, O'Reilly made the astounding claim that Chris Matthews is a liberal!)

In the clip Brokaw said this: "... [But] not to have control of the execution and to have it, really, just fuel more sectarian violence at a time when we're trying to dampen that is - uh - is not helpful, which is an understatement."

O'Reilly responded, saying "Well, Brokaw was wrong. There has not been a rise in violence since Saddam's execution according to Stratfor, a non-partisan group that analyzes Iraq. One final thing about NBC News. A Center for Media and Public Affairs study concluded that that network favored John Kerry more than any other network in the 2004 election. So, next week, when the President announces his new Iraq strategy, expect overwhelmingly negative coverage from NBC News and others. I hope I'm wrong."

Deadeye Dick Says We're Gonna Win, Win, Win - In 20, 30 or 40 Years!! January 15, 2007 10:51 PM

On January 14th, Vice President Dick Cheney appeared on FOX News Sunday to help us all understand the wisdom of Bush's "everything old is new again" Iraq policy. (Host Chris Wallace actually asked tough questions, possibly as a reaction to his encounter with a finger-jabbing Bill Clinton.) Cheney spouted the usual string of talking points that we've all heard from every one of the administration's flunkies since President Bush set the stage for the "perpetual escalation" of the Iraq war. To those of us from the Vietnam generation, this all sounds like a bad instant replay. Bush, Cheney and their hand-picked band of military advisors have just repackaged the "domino" theory. If we don't win in Iraq, we'll have to fight them in Iran, then in Syria, then in Lebanon, then in Israel, then in Turkey, then in Europe, on and on until finally the Islamic boogeymen, they predict, will show up on our doorstep. It's all so distressingly familiar.

Never one to disappoint, Cheney conjured up some of our favorite images.

9-11

"That we have gone in and, aggressively, since 9/11, gone after state sponsors of terror, gone after safe havens where terrorists trained and equipped and planned and operated to strike the United States."

Osama bin Laden

"Remember what bin Laden's strategy is. He doesn't think he can beat us in the stand-up fight. He thinks he can force us to quit. He believes that, after Lebanon in '83 and Somalia in '93, that the United States doesn't have the stomach for a long war. And Iraq is the current central battlefield in that war, and we must win there. It's absolutely essential that we win there, and we will win there."

Liberal talk radio network Air America finds a buyer, Franken will leaveUpdated 1/29/2007 1:56 PM ETSubscribe to stories like this Subscribe to stories like this
NEW YORK — Air America Radio, a liberal talk radio network, said Monday that it has reached a tentative agreement to be sold to the founder of a New York area real estate company. The network also said Al Franken, its longtime headline personality, would leave next month.

The agreement with Stephen Green, founder and chairman of SL Green Realty, appears to rescue the struggling network. Air America has been seeking a buyer since last fall, when it filed for bankruptcy reorganization after reaching an impasse with one of its creditors.

Any sale would have to be approved by the bankruptcy court. The company has signed a letter of intent to sell itself to Green and expects to agree on financial terms soon, Air America spokeswoman Jaime Horn said.

Stephen Green's brother Mark is a longtime New York politician who has also appeared frequently as a guest on Air America Radio.

The network says Franken's last day on the air will be Feb. 14, and his noon-3 p.m. ET time slot would be taken by Portland, Ore.-based talk show host Thom Hartmann.

The network didn't say why Franken is leaving, but Franken told the AP earlier this month that he had contacted Minnesota lawmakers to seek advice about a possible run for the Senate.

Green's company is a real estate investment trust that owns and manages office properties, mainly in Manhattan, with 27 million square feet of space under its control.

Air America launched with much fanfare in 2004 as an alternative to conservative radio talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh. But it ran into several tough spots, including a management shakeup five weeks after going on the air that saw the departure of its chairman, Evan Cohen. Last April former music executive Danny Goldberg abruptly stepped aside as CEO. The current CEO is Scott Elberg.

Enema of the Week February 04, 2007 8:47 PM

Well, we've already outlasted John Gibson's ill-fated "Nitwit of the week" feature, which was awarded exactly once. In a fitting irony, this week's award goes to John Gibson, whose latest campaign exposes him as completely full of, well, in dire need of an award.

closed case that rely heavily on words like "could have", "may have" and "might have." He is counting the days, literally, since the plea bargain and announcing it daily in his "count of shame." What's truly shameful is speculation and conjecture masquerading as "news" on a national network. Take it like a man, Gibson.

He's been assisted in spreading this rumor by the Wall Street Journal's John Fund, who is hereby awarded the runner-up prize of a pint of prune juice.

This Fox News "Expert" Should Appear Over a Laugh Track February 26, 2007 8:51 PM

Jonathan Hoenig is the "managing member of a "private investment partnership" named Capitalistpig.com. He is a frequent guest on Fox's Your World w/Neil Cavuto and on its Saturday morning "business news lineup." According to his bio, Hoenig has been featured in numerous publications including The Chronicle of Higher Education which is worrisome because what he said today (February 26, 2007) during a roundtable discussion about global warming is typical of his spiels.

Neil, if you listen to what the Greens say, they hate industry. They hate the modern advanced technological industrial economy. They believe that man should be subordinate to nature and I just don't see how our economy or our markets will thrive when you give more rights to a stupid owl than a human being.

The Greens, Neil, they hate development. Whether it's logging; whether it's nuclear power; whether it's lumber; whether it's coal; whether it's mining, they hate anything that pushes society forward and I'm sorry if you want to save the caribou. Caribou can't start a company. Caribou can't invent the next [inaudible].

The Greens, Wayne, would say we should have no energy. They would say we should have horseback because whatever it is, whether it's wind power or nuclear or whatever, they hate energy in general.
