Thanks for the invite!

Thank you for inviting me to this group. I might not have much to contribute but I do need a place to discuss and possibly ask questions. I don't have history in family but I do know women that have survived breast cancer and they have got to be the most strong women I have ever known. I have had 3 benign lumps removed and we are watching another. Mammograms every 6 months is not fun either.

Well thanks again, hope to chat with you all soon.

Hi Anita, I'm very glad to join the group, thank you for asking me. Susan

I am in the "HIGH Risk" group.  So far so good.  I go for my annual check-up and mammogram.  I'm now wondering if I'll be getting the MRI because of the family history.  (My mom was a breast cancer survivor-had it twice and my sister has had 3 bouts with breast cancer that I know of).

I'm looking for more information on the MRI's and breast cancer.

Susan, I have heard that the MRIs are good at catching what the mammograms don't but then I heard that mammograms catch what MRIs don't so I guess with your risk factor you might want to do both. Check out WebMD.

Firstly, thanks Mark for the invitation.  Although (for now) I have not had to go through this, I have had some friends who have.  My best friend here in Italy had breast cancer and I took her to the hospital for her non-radical operation - she has subsequently been checked regularly and after 6 years I am glad to say she is still cancer free.  My husband's partner in business had to have bi-lateral radical mastectomies at the age of 40 - she has since had reconstructive surgery - all on the national health service - and so far is ok as well.  It is so important to get the message of prevention out.  Here in Italy, the Health Service sends invitations to all women over 50 to have a free mammogram once a year.  I myself have done mammograms since I was 40 (my first) and my doctor insisted on doing a scan as well until I gave up HRT - just caused to many problems for me.  Now I do a mammogram once a year and if they find it necessary they will call me back for further investigation and this is the norm here.

Hi. I am Jim.  I spend most of my time behind the scenes providing income to charities.  I give any legitimate nonprofit a completely free way to raise money with no effort.  I basically do everything for them to make them successful.  I have over 1,500 of the best-known internet merchants on board.  Whenever anybody shops online, these stores send up to 25% of the sale to either an enrolled charity, or a basket of the best charities serving each cause.  Many of them address breast cancer.  I get great satisfaction knowing that I am able to support so many good charities with the income they so vitally need.

Thank you Anita for the invite... As far as I know we do not have breast cancer in our family but as we all know it can hit anybody.... When my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer, it struck me hard and when she passed on i told myself i would not do like her and not go for regular check up espescailly when u are over 50.  And the fact that Colon, ovarian and breast cancer are all linked for info... Now its check up every 2 years  and so far so good....except for colon which is done every 5 yrs and that i hade done last year and all was  good.

Huggges to everyone is this group!!!!

Thanks for the invitation.  I went to war twice for this country, but the hardest thing I ever had to do was watch my oldest son die of bone cancer.  This government needs to get its act together and realize that terrorism isn't even in the top two hundred threats to this country.  Our government needs to stop spending billions of dollars trying to fight ideas and start spending the money on research to end cancers.

If I may help in anyway just let me know.  My prayers and support are here for all who may need them.  Rick.

Sad news

It's with a heavy heart that I report that I've just recently lost one of my dear friends to the battle of breast cancer.  Bev fought a brave battle for two and a half years and lost the battle in April.  This is the first I've been able to write about it.  I miss her greatly.  She went peacefully into the hereafter, but we must keep up the fight against breast cancer so this does not continue to happen to women.  It must be stamped out and stamped out now!

Susan, hugs! Good to see you Anita! Likewise, I've lost several friends to breast cancer. I do everything I can to donate time, money, and resources but it's discouraging a cure is not yet available. Thankful for the group! Together, there is hope.
