Starting seeds February 18, 2006 2:55 PM

How many of you grow your own flowers and vegetables from seed? I have a small greenhouse and have a little spare room to start a few seeds. I have planted some tomato seeds and some flowers. I like to start a few herbs from seed as well.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

This year, I have started several things from seeds: chives, cilantro, parsley, tarragon, catnip, shallots, nasturtiums (sp!!) and strawberries. I tried to start lupine, but only one (out of 60!) seeds grew. I'm planning on starting some other flowers, columbine, candy lily, lavender... Goodness, I didn't realize how much I had planted. No wonder my husband is complaining about how much space it's taking up! :) Sarah  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

plants are getting too expensive! You can buy a whole packet of seed for the cost of one plant. I thought I might even try selling some of my extras this year,IF I have any.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Patricia, I was delighted to hear of your Bird of Paradise plant! Sounds wonderfull! I work for a commercial grower of flowers/plants. Plants are expensive to raise-- a lot of labor involved-- unfortunately, the cost gets passed on to the customer who buys retail. It's very rewarding, not to mention very simple, to start things from seed. Enjoy!!!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
