Boycotting Indonesia does it do more harm then good? June 12, 2005 10:34 AM

Isn't boycotting Indonesia and saying you won't give donation money to Indonesia is doing more harm then good for S Corby chances of a appeal

And on this basic I guess people who want to do more harm then good are not true supporters of S Corby.

But if people want to boycott Indonesia for what happened to S Corby then why haven't they considered boycotting South Australia and The ACT.

Because reality would tell people who want to boycott Indonesia, innocent people have been locked up for years in Baxter Detention Centre without a trial.

I think Schappelle has asked people to stop doing the illegal stuff in protest (eg the white powder letters and graffiti) because it was harming her case.  [ send green star]

Boycotting can only be a good thing June 15, 2005 11:25 AM

I say this because I was a strong supporter of the boycott of South Africa, and evey South African said all along that we were doing the right thing.

Nay sayers, including prominent African Americans where the enemy in this case, traitors against the South African people.  We called them BABs -- blacks against blacks -- but the usual term is Uncle Tom.

I say boycott every nation, cuz every nation is at very best 50% corrupt, and is more likely 99% corrupt.

Boycott June 16, 2005 6:43 AM

Hi all,
Boycotting a country because a tourist has(supposedly)broken a law of that country is stupid...The Cordy case became a major media event in australia because she is young and beautiful, how many not so attractive aussie tourists have suffered the same fate and been ignored?  The so called, more recent, "Bali 9" have received nothing but bad press in Australia and the media has made the ONE women involved to be complete airhead, while the males are portrayed as innocents. These young people are victims of an incidious world wide drug trade and need our sympathy as much as Cordy does...
Lets not blame a whole country for the judgement of their court system, and it is their court system...
Comparing this to the struggle of the indigenous South African people is way out of bounds...

Corruption June 16, 2005 6:53 AM

To John V,
If all countries are so corrupt where will you live???  It is not countries that are corrupt, it is politicians and big business. These are the things that impose injustice on the world, and the only way to change that is to struggle for change!!!

bandaids or boycotts? June 16, 2005 4:13 PM

boycotting symptoms is like putting a bandaid on on a weeping ulcer thinking it will fix it.

boycotting the cause of those symptoms sometimes has more impact.

in the case of indonesia, the cause is islamic law via islamic powerbrokers as agents of mullahs who are agents of allah.

and boycotting islam? i dont think so, unless all religion is boycotted, and that, in this spiritually gullible age, is highly unlikely.

i request you put your efforts into something closer to your backyard, and increase the oxygen content of your neighbourhood, and accept that islamic law is not palatable to westerners, and vice versa.

brann is correct -- one has to look deeper before offering ones alliances to any boycott.

Corby boycott calls fail to stop us visiting Bali

June 17, 2005

CALLS to boycott Bali seem to have fallen on deaf ears with record Australian tourist numbers prompting Garuda Indonesia to add an additional flight from Sydney.

Supporters of Schapelle Corby had called for a boycott of the holiday destination to protest the 20-year prison sentence handed down to the convicted drug smuggler by a Bali court last month.

8 total Boris B.

I understand what you are saying but considering Indonesia Law is based on Dutch Law is it really "islamic law"?

Lets put it this way John V June 23, 2005 9:46 AM

Okay John V let put it this way how would you feel if I am going to boycott your area where you live because I don't like what your Government is doing even those you had nothing to do with it?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

reply June 23, 2005 4:21 PM

kenneth, indonesian law was based on the dutch system, but the guts of it has been changed by parlamentary acts emminating from islamic lobbying -- and if you boycotted my country, i would be more aware of what international opinion was regarding the matter causing the boycott, and if necessary would take steps to alter the political balance so the boycott became non necessary

the effect of boycotts is both on the government, and the people who let that government flourish -- boycotts have broken governments before, and will do so again

Isn't the American 'three strikes and you're out' rule worse than the one that got Schappelle 20 years for trafficking?  [ send green star]

There is a similar situation going on in America with a small island called Aruba, that has apparently failed in its duty of care in investigating a missing American teenage tourist. Perhaps this one is a bit more cut and dry because the girl did nothing wrong.

Yes Boris B "boycotting the cause of those symptoms sometimes has more impact" on the people who has nothing to do with the Judges.

But then again how would you feel if a boycott of The Howard Government has a impact on you?
