Well....I've been working on it! July 23, 2008 12:40 PM

I'm trying to get in a garden STILL!  I have a fenced in area but it's been completely filled up with milk thistle for the past several years, growing up taller than me!  I've got them down now...but I don't know how to keep them from coming back and back and back.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I'm an oldie at eating organic but a newbie on actually growing my own, and this case is really tough!  Thanks for any help anybody can give!

Hugs,
Vibe

Hi April 12, 2008 12:33 PM

Hi Vibe and everyone else.  Thanks Vibe for putting up that petition for pasture for cows.  I am totally against factory farmed "organics"  because they are a lie.  I signed right away.

It is funny that no one has been on here in so long and then we are both on here within an hour of each other!!

I am done with school but still have no house.  We are looking at a piece of land though.  I think we are going to build ourselves a little cottage for now if we can get the land.  It will be summer soon and everyone will be away but I am going to do my best to get up some more much needed info and content on the group.

If anyone has any ideas, I always listen!

A morsel to share with you all. July 28, 2007 5:27 AM

Hi Everyone.I haven't been here for a while so I wanted to bring something positive. It is organic but not nutritious!
I just adore birds and marvel in amazement that they can fly and are so light and fragile yet so hardy. I would like to share this wonderful story with all of you. Bear in mind that the birds in this story usually nest high in gum trees, which makes the story all the more amazing. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.Blessings, light and peace to all. Enjoy.

Hi Vibe, sorry I haven't been in touch much.  I'm glad it is a beautiful day where you are.  I drove up to go riding today and it was pouring by the time I got there.  It seemed like it would be just showers and it was warm so I went into the barn anyway.  It then proceeded to start lightening and thundering.  Riding in the mountains in that weather isn't such a good idea so I had to go back to my damp basement.

But I am certainly glad the sun is shining somewhere!!!

anonymous My thoughts are with you March 11, 2007 12:17 AM

Hi Vibe,

I just read the posts about your Mom, I hope you know my thoughts are with you.  I will say a prayer of healing for her before I go to bed tonight.  When you are with her, lay your hand on her arm and do the same.  If you can, leave your hand on her for awhile.  The magnetic energy in our own bodies are the partial source of reiki healing, in addition to the feeling of warmth & love.  Ask for healing and balance as well.  Also, please take care of yourself.  We'll be thinking of you.

My mom seems to be doing better, and I know it's from all the prayer!  I hope she'll be going home soon!

I'm doing a little bit better, too, but wow...am I far behind in my work!  I hope to be able to be with you more soon.  Sorry I've been gone so much.  I really like this group LOTS!

Love and blessings of good health to you all!

THank you for your support! March 08, 2007 7:57 PM

It means more to me than you know.  I just tried four times to write this post and I'm too emotional right now.  It's more than her heart with which I am concerned...it's her mind, and the effects of all the drugs they are giving to her.  It's about got me crazy right now.  Please pray for her mind to be strong and clear, and for her sweet heart to be well.

Thanks to you all...Vibe

Hello Vibe,
My prayers will include your Mom and you (you need much strength now too). Wow, 91. She must be a very strong woman mentally, physically, and spiritually.
I worry about my folks as they are both 80 but in relatively good health, but that can change so quickly.
May the light of our heavenly Father shine upon you and your Mom and bless you with strength and courage.

Hi, Everyone... March 07, 2007 10:32 AM

I just thought I'd let everyone know where I've been and ask you for a few prayers...

A lot of you already know this, but my mom, who's 91, has recently had a severe heart attack. Please hold her in your prayers. She's doing much better...in fact, she's doing amazing well considering her age and the severity of the attack. Still, though, it's quite a big challenge for anyone of any age to go through what she's going through now.

She's not feeling so great, and her spirits are quite a bit down. Please hold her in the Light.

Love to All,
Vibe

Nutrients February 07, 2007 8:07 AM

Hi Vibe, thanks for writing about that.  It is very difficult to learn about all this stuff without a comprehensive book to read.  If you know of any good books about this stuff can you put it in the book list section because it is even hard to pick out a good book!  I'm positive I would buy it if it had all the information in one easy place!!

I noticed that you said minerals should be from plants and not from rocks- I'm curious- why is that.  I do know that universal formulas uses some stuff from rocks because they advertise that they bought their own quarry so they would know where the stuff was coming from.

I know that most of their stuff is plant based.  For instance the calcium that I take is all plant based and it is actually the most useful one I've ever had- it works wonders.  They also have some other herbal supplements that we use with miraculous results.  Brilliance is one that we use that helps you be focused and improve memory.  I have a great memory anyway but Kevins is lousy.  When he takes it he remembers stuff that I say a lot more and it does keep me super focused.

I would certainly like to know the bad stuff about these products and the good stuff as well as where to get really good stuff.  There is so much to learn- so little time!!!  Thanks for your help Vibe, it is always appreciated.  I also have more questions for you but I will post them on your natural health site.

supplements, etc. February 07, 2007 7:31 AM

It's verrrrrrrrrrrry important to consider the source of supplements.  Nutrients need to be plant based, for one thing.  I, myself, go straight for the herbs, because they are the original source of vitamins, minerals, etc.  That way I know they're in natural absorbable form, and that all the proper components are combined for assimilation and proper use in the body.

But if using vitamins, minerals, glyconutrients, etc., in laboratory form, then make sure they're NATURAL...Also, minerals should be chelated, ionic, or colloidal, for instance, and always, always plant based...NOT from rocks and dirt.  It simplifies things so much in my mind to just get the nutrients all from the herbs.  Dandelion, alfalfa and kelp have them all when combined.  That's what I use every day.

Spirulina's another really good one to get a complete mix, or bee pollen.  Bee pollen is an EXCELLENT food...not really an herb, but herb based.  You could live on bee pollen and water alone!  Pollen is an excellent nutritional supplement because of its strong nutritional profile. It contains up to 35 percent complete protein, 22 amino acids, B vitamins, 27 mineral salts, trace elements and several enzymes. Greeks called it the “nectar of the gods.” Bee Pollen should be naturally dried to preserve vital enzymes, so again, how it is processed really does matter a lot.

(Spirulina is what they call the bee pollen of the sea, by the way...)

When using herbs, it is EXTREMELY important to consider the source.  The ones you typically find in the discount stores are really nothing but junk.  Read the ingredients first.  There should NEVER be artificial ingredients anywhere at all in the formula.

Then you have to consider the formula...Who made it up?  Were they good?  You can take eggs, flour, butter, sugar, baking soda and throw it all in a pan and bake it, but if you don't have a good recipe, then it's not going to be very good.

What about the raw ingredients?  Were they ORGANICALLY grown, or wildcrafted?  How were they harvested, stored, processed and shipped?  Are they tested for contaminents, like bacteria and mold?  Are they tested for strength?  Is heat used in processing the herbs?  Are any chemicals used?  These are all really good reasons to consider the source of the natural products you use.

Recommending quality products is part of what I do as a doctor of naturopathy.  If you need any help, please feel free to ask.  I can direct you to good sources for just about any natural product you need.

You can also visit my website at www.allnaturalhealthworks.com.  It's still under construction a bit, so please pardon the mess if you will, and come back and visit again!  There's a lot that's not listed yet.

Sometimes, too, it's not just the particular herb or nutrient which is being used, but the system by which it's applied.

If you need any help in putting a comprehensive program together, please feel free to ask about that.  That's what I specialize in.

I couldn't agree more February 04, 2007 6:57 AM

I am glad you are here!  And I couldn't agree with you more.  The old saying is there for a reason-- it is true!!  You are what you eat.  It is true that I no longer buy very expensive chem allergy meds and I don't buy the huge bottles of advil that I used to.  I don't need them anymore and I'm in pain still but much less than I used to be.  I stopped taking those hard pill vitamins with the binding agent because it was hurting my neck and shoulder but also because those vitamins are all synthetic and don't do us much good.  Now I take vitamins and herbal supplements from:

http://universalformulas.com/

For example just from taking their micronized 1:1 calcium magnesium supplement I don't get PMS, my period starts on time, and I hardly have any cramps.  I am also far less moody during the rest of the month and I sleep all night long.  Also my boyfriend is far less moody when he is taking it.  We recently ran out for a week and he was in a fould mood almost the whole time!!!!  We aren't going to run out of it anymore!

These supplements are a little expensive but they are cheaper than what you will pay in a whole foods store and they work much better than anything else I've found.

Hi, Everyone! February 04, 2007 5:19 AM

I always hear how expensive it is to eat organic, but I don't see it that way.  Yes, I wish the costs were lower, and I get upset that the industry is driving the prices up by giving breaks to conventional farmers, etc., and putting the pressure on to use chemicals...BUT...it is STILL worth the difference to me!

The extra cost is more than covered by the fact that I don't purchase what I consider junk food...I don't buy all those boxes, those cans, those treats, the pop, the Sugar Smack cereal which gives no nutrition.  When I buy food, it is FOOD...not additives, fillers, and artificial ingredients.  When I buy food, I go for quality more than quantity...and guess what???

When I buy real food...with real nutritional value...I don't neeeeeeeed to consume as much!

When your body is getting the nutrition it needs through the foods, the cravings for more and more stop.

Also, there are soooo many addictive (yes addictive!) ingredients in the processed foods, that they just keep you going for MORE.  In my mind, it's cheaper to avoid all of that.

Also, I take into consideration the savings in healthcare costs.  People may tell you that there's no direct link, but you are what you eat, and I don't want to eat junk.  I use my food as my medicine, so I want it to be quality food.  Then I can (and do!) save money on trips to the doctor and over the counter drugs.  I personally don't use either one.

I believe that foods were created exactly the way they should be.  Eventually I'd like to grow all my own food in my yard.

For those who don't know me, I'm a doctor of naturopathy, and from what I see in the people I come into contact with on a professional basis is that it DOES make a difference in health!

This is a good group, Aimee.  I'm glad you invited me here!

PS-boyfriends January 31, 2007 9:37 AM

Oh I forgot to mention this.  I am going to start having Kevin(my boyfriend) post to give a guys version of being converted to organics.  He mostly does what I say because of course that makes his life easier, but I am sure he has his own reasons for making the change with me.  Maybe his perspective can help some of the other guys out there!  [ send green star]

Hi January 31, 2007 9:34 AM

Hi Rhiannon, welcome to the group, we're glad you're here.  Your daughter is also very lucky to be getting the very best right from the start.

That is cool that you can get wild game.  It is probably very healthy and at the least unadulterated.  Hopefully organic food will become more available as time goes on.

The doggies will come back into your life when the time is right- they have a way of knowing just when to appear, whether we agree with the timing or not.

Hope you enjoy the group- I'm sure we all have something to learn and something to teach!!

Hi Ladies January 29, 2007 6:24 PM

Hey guys!

My name is Rhiannon and I have been a tree huggin hippie all my life. I come from a small town on the prairies where it was nearly impossible to eat organic, so it was just what I could find here and there and luckily I worked with a few guys who hunt and gave me wild game, I have recently moved to the city and have found a few organic markets and am a frequent farmers market attendee. I also have a daughter, she is seven months who is just starting solid foods in which I am having a wonderful time making from organic grains fruits and veggies and she loves them.  I am currently trying to get my boyfriend to see the green side, ongoing process, lol. I do not have any pets as of the moment but I am a huge dog lover and would like three one day. So I guess in a nutshell that is me and I am looking forward to sharing and learning from all of you

Peace and blessings,

HI January 29, 2007 4:40 PM

Hi Heather, Welcome to the group! That is so great that your daughter is getting to start out healthy so young!! That is awesome.  We switched over our food first which was the most important to our health and then as we ran out of certain household products I started to replace them with organic or at least all natural products.  I am much happier with them as they don't have terrible fumes and don't destroy my skin.  Also I don't have to worry as much about the pets getting into them(or your baby in your case).  I used a chemical product the other day that has been lingering in the house and I felt yucky after using it.

That is cool that you weave and use organic yarns and dyes!  I like watching the people at the fryeburg(ME) fair turn the various fleeces in yarns.

Angelique, you are lucky to be able to get fairly decent priced food.  We are not that far away, just in NH and we have to pay a minimum of twice as much, sometimes 3 times as much.  It's crazy!  But it is worth it to us and I will never go back!

Tina, thanks for the link, I am going to check it out.  It seems like most of the country has a lack of organic meats.  We can get all natural, cage free type things but nothing actually organic.  I have had some grass fed beef though and it was really great.

Hi Ladies!

Angelique, I noticed that you aren't able to get certified organic meats in your area. Did you know that you can find them online? My family personally enjoy's Grassfed meats and dairy products. You can find them here (http://www.tinasark.com/healingfoods.htm#The%20Healthy%20Meat) but, you can also do an Internet search.

Light & Blessings, Tina

Good Morning & Welcome Heather!

I am new as well to the group, and like you, I am living an organic lifestyle.  I posted a few days ago about my lifestyle, so if you want to check my prior post, feel free to.  I have been living an organic lifestyle for exactly one year now - and it was the best decision I ever made.  Actually, I am finding in most cases, that organic food products are very close in price to other foods...a little more, but not a lot.  I guess for me & my husband, we came to the point where what mattered most was our health, what was best for us(between organic living & vitamins & herbs) and the choice of cost came secondarily.  I live in southwestern NY, (right down on the western NY/PA line) and I have been fortunate to be able to buy a large part of our foods organically.  The only thing I cannot get is organic meats.  I eat chicken(all natural) and fresh fish, fresh turkey - all for the most part, so I am trying to do the best I can with what is available to me.  Nice to meet you dear - looking forward to getting to know better.

 Angelique

Hi Everyone! January 29, 2007 6:31 AM

Hello all! My name is Heather, and I just joined the group and am looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say about organics! I do not have pets at this time, but I have been eating organic food for 3 years now. I have a 10 month old daughter who also eats an organic diet. It has made a world of difference in her attitude and energy level! I noticed that most of the discussion is centered around organic food and supplements, which I wholeheartedly support. In addition to using those things, I also have made it a habit to use organic and cruelty free cleaning and household products. I am a weaver and try as much as possible to use organic yarn and dye that yarn with organic materials. Again, I look forward to sharing in discussion topics with everyone here!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
