Holly, Nikky, and all others who have joined but not posted. You are all heartily welcome to this group. Please feel free to share anything appropriate to our purpose. Please note that until now, with Care2s new feature of letting hosts know when new members join, I have had no way of knowing who is new to welcome them. So please consider yourself welcomed, too, in this post. Holly, thanks so much for starting right out an active posting member!

Hello everyone! I just jumped in and started posting without introducing myself first! I am sorry about that.
My name is Holly and I live in central Florida. I have lived here almost 5 years. I moved here from Kansas and what a difference! Because I grew up in a small, collage town in Kansas I have always had a respect for the land and been aware of my impact on the earth. While not necessarily in a 'sustainable living' kind of way, but more of a 'waste not want not' kind of way. Anyway, when I moved here I found that the lifestyle was very different. It seems there are people everywhere and all things are disposable for convenience. Talk about your fast-paced society. So I have had some adjusting to do.
Like I said I had never heard of 'sustainable living' until about a year ago and I realized this was what I had been trying to do all along. For the first couple of years I lived here I wasn't sure if I was up to the challange, but I have discovered that maybe that was the greater plan all along. I have found that not only am I able to introduce this way of living to my friends and neighbors and maybe give them some incentive to try out a less wasteful way to live, I also have had the opportunity to meet neat people like all of you that help me to try new things and give me the incentive to be less wasteful.
I am really excited to get to know all of you and to learn from you. Have a great day!
Welcome, {{{Denise T, Debbra C, Sid J, Hazel M, Dagmar F, Linda B, Nicole S, Patt L, BTC C, Angel W, Marriana P, Maia K, Bill R, and Jaine S!!!}}}
Feel free to post your introduction, your favorite sustainable living sites, and whatever else you want to share about making the world a more sustainable place!

Welcome, Fiona! Thanks for all you do! Feel free to share some of what you do for all of us to learn from. So glad you are also going to be learning more about food growing. There is so much to learn, and it can be very useful once you have an opportunity to use it! The earth is so incredibly fruitful when we take care of it and use its potential rightly.
Sorry everyone about the delay in welcomes. I have been fighting bronchitis, pneumonia, and kidney infection all at once, so I appreciate everyone's prayers, pink lights, meditations, etc. It's been a tough battle so I haven't been able to post much and would appreciate anyone's posts at this point in time until I can fully recover.

Hello, I am Fiona and I live in Alberta, Canada. The ways I already live sustainably is buying used goods (like dishes or clothes) instead of new whenever possible, organic food, recycling, using florescent light bulbs, walking to work instead of using my car - the usual stuff you can do while still living a "normal" life in a town..
But I am always looking for ways to go further! I hope to spend this summer WWOOFing - volunteering on an organic farm in order to learn more about growing and permaculture. I am also always looking out for courses to take and ways to build contacts with others interested in sustainable living. I think its the most important thing we can do!
I just wanted to introduce my nonprofit organization to this group The organization is called Sustainable Harvest International and we are working to alleviated poverty through sustainable land-use practices. Our primary focus is on helping economically disadvantaged families in the tropics to raise their standard of living while protecting what is left of the world's tropical forests.
Thus far the 900 families working with SHI have planted over 1.9 million trees, saved nearly 60,000 acres of tropical forest and helped families raisie their annual income from just $500 to as much as $4,000!
NEW WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS THREAD (AS OF Feb. 14 2007) February 15, 2007 12:00 AM
I'm starting this new welcome thread because the original one is so long and has become a discussion thread (with discussions I deem to useful to end). So everybody new, this is the thread to look through for your welcome by name. We are always glad for everyone who joins us.
