I'm Karen from St Louis, Anita invited me to this group. Thank you Anita. I've lived here just about my whole life, except for the 6 weeks about 20 years ago when I lived in Cleveland Tx.
and to the state of Missouri. I am glad to see you joined our little group here.. Rattle around in the threads and make your self at home. How long have you been in Mo. now?
I know I am a bit partial having grown up here but I do think we have one of the most beautiful states to live in. I have traveled through many states and I am always struck by how lush and green Mo. really is when I see it.
I was not born here in MO, however, after closer checking of research files I do seem to have some MO roots. Actually I am a Southern transplant. I spent 18 years prior in the State of Louisiana. (and yes, I AM glad I got out before KATRINA !!)
I reside in mid-MO and having to adjust to the weather change and the scenics. But, I am finding it is a pleasant adjustment. I was particularly impressed with the PURPLE FIELDS this year. And, I love the yellow and red fields in the fall. As pretty as any NE foliage change. Yes, I think I am going to like living in MO just fine !And, thanks for the envititation to this fine "Show me" site!!
Hi Angee! Welcome tp the group. You will make many friends here and there are a lot of causes to support and petitions to sign! Find them and go for it! The world will be a better place with people like the group from Missouri!
I've lived in St. Louis all my life, however, I have been living in Chicago for the last eighteen months because I transferred with my job. Just thirteen more months and I'll be moving back to good ole south St. Louis. I really miss that laid back town.

Glad you could join us from the UK. I would recommend Meramec Caverns & Onondaga Cave to start out with. Check our our thread on caves. I will try to add some new ones soon.
Hi all. Newbie here I'm from the UK and enjoy caving (only tourist sites thesedays, I'm afraid to admit, not true pot-holing ) and recently discovered that Missouri is known as The Cave State. If I was ever to have the opportunity to visit where would you suggest I go first?
Toni W. to the group! You sure don't have to live in Mo. to enjoy all the wonderful things there is to see and do here. I know the St Louis Zoo in Forest Park is one of my favorite places too. Thank you for joining our group!

Well if you were conceived in Missouri that still makes you a Missourian in my book. I know where Licking is and it's too bad you didn't have a say to where you wanted to grow up but I always figure there's a reason for everything in life including where we live. Maybe someday life will take you back to the beautiful state of Missouri to live once again. You just never know! In the mean time glad to have you as a part of our Mo. group!
I'm a changeling -- was born in California -- whereas the rest of my family -- mom, dad and two sisters -- and three out of four of my grandparents -- were all born in Missouri. (On the other hand, I was "conceived" in Missouri -- so have always figured that ought to count for something!)
I went to school for a short time in Licking -- my folks had a small farm near there for a while. I was very young at the time but loved farm life. But -- my parents liked California -- and pulled up stakes and moved here when I was still young. And we -- my sisters and I -- didn't get a vote in the decision -- or it would probably have been three to two -- to stay.
I'm living now in the mountains of Northern California -- not too far -- at least as the crow flies -- from the Oregon border.

My name is Kristi K and I have several friends in this group. I have a petition that some of you have signed but I would welcome more signatures especially from Missouri! I have over 2,100 signatures!
My name is Robert. I was born and raised near the town of New Florence. Came to the great pacific northwet in 1991 following my jobs. All of my family is still in MO and IL. Unfortunately, I only get back there a couple times a year.
So glad you could join us here in the Mo. group. I always wanted to grow up on a farm but I was born and raised in St Louis, Mo. It took me years to finally make my way to living in the county but I am here now and loving it as I always knew I would.
Well, look around in our other Mo threads and give us your input. Or feel free to start a thread of something that interests you about Mo. Anita
Hello, I posted on the "leaves" thread first... October 19, 2005 12:38 PM
There's a full profile under my name LR R.
I've been on care2.com for about 5 years but I think I only noticed the "care2connect" this past year.
I was raised on a small, "play" farm but our neighbour one way owned 40 acres and she was like a grandmother to us, so that it made my "playground" 60 acres that way and we ran abut to the 1000+ acres dairy farm behind us. I grew up crossing fences as I liked so my real stomping ground was pretty large.
My father was born and raised in the Irish Wilderness. Yes, he went to a one-room school house. My mother was born and left Clarkton (the Bootheel), MO, when she was about 4. She grew up 20 miles south of Canada in Michigan.
I always explain my parents and how I grew up is "I grew up like on Green Acres." My mother was "fancy" for the area and spoke with a Northern accent (alhough born in MO) and my father is a true HIllbilly. He got out of the Army in the '50's and apprenticed in STL to become a shoe designer. He's now retired. I have the town and the country in me.
Nice to see you all.
Blessings,
LR/

If I could live anywhere in the state it would be in my home town of Hartville....small community and it don't cost and arm and a leg to find a place to live
If I was to move from my present location which I doubt will happen soon it would be to the Ozark,Branson area of the State. This is probably because of my love of the ozarks which inclludes some of the finest scenery to be seen in Missouri. There on can find lakes, streams along with a national forest and loads of entertainment and family type fun. Both towns or an easy drive from Springfield where I'm sure one can find anything one desires inthe way of shopping.I beleive it is Missouris 3rd largest city.Branson and Springfield both have web site that would be of help to you.Be warned though Branson is a prime recreation center and the traffic can be terrible most of the year so unless you like huge crowds I'd try for an outlying area or head further north in the state.

Well, Joplin Missouri is a fairly large city/town...has alot of fine area sites..a great mall...Great Hospitals...St. Johns and Freeman being the two main Large Hospitals...State of the art....
And Alot more than I have room here to describe.
here is a link to the Joplin Globe Newspaper...you will have to sign up to get a press pass.....but it is free.....you will find most of the questions in the classified section.
Living expensense in this area is far lower than where you are living I am sure.
What is the best place in the state to live? February 15, 2005 11:33 AM
I am giving serious consideration to moving to "your' state and making it mine. Where would you move to if you could live anywhere in the state? Why and What is the cost of living? Give me town names and/or online newspapers so I can look at realestate listings. Metro Atlanta is getting too expensive so I must move.
Your way to young to remember those one room schools, most have been torn down or built onto so only older folk could possibly know of them first hand. Most if not all had outlived there usefullness by the early to mid sixtys. Some had been out of use even before that.I did not attend one of these but that was probably due to the fact we lived within a few miles of town.I did know of several that were in session during those years.

I don't think that Hart is close to my little town...to tell you the truth out of all of missouri I know where one, one room school house is...I have lived in Missouri but never explored that much of it...nice to have you in this group...Love and Peace to you Ashley Nicole

I reside in Howard County near the very small town of Boonsboro where I have lived for the past 30 some years and before that I lived near Glasgow. I grew up very near the Missouri river and spent many days on and in the river and the woodlands bordering it and will always have a soft spot for the Big Muddy, but I find the Ozarks has just as much power over me now days.Especially the area near the border of Arkansas.
