MY PLEDGE....TO MOTHER EARTH...... March 09, 2007 10:58 AM
I pledge allegiance to the Earth
and all the Life which it supports,
One Planet in our care, irreplaceable,
with sustenance and respect for all.
I pledge to do my best as a pagan and a healer to dedicate a portion of my time and talents to remember the plight of our mother on this special day, through prayer.
I also pledge to look at my life to see what more that I can do to live with nature and not off nature.
What a beautiful idea! You have my pledge, I will pass the date on. I see I am going to enjoy this group very much. Thank you!

peace be with you.. I thank you all...more must be done to make aware our brothers and sisters.Science has failed, politics have failed, all will fail unless we act now. I dont know how much more Mother can hang on. She has given so much and we have all but spit in her face and walked ignorantly on. I am impressed by the caring of our Mother, but if we are to make any difference She can not exist without her children anymore thqan her children can exist without her. I call out on behalf of my trees, my streams, my charges....it needs to be heard. Gaia is dying. My Mother calls out, my fatherthe Green One is impotent! They need their children or all is lost and chaos will be the victor

I pledge to walk more even though I rarely drive and the car I drive is small. I wish we could get all those people who drive huge SUVs to take the pledge as they try to run me off the road all the time and I am tired of it.

It is really a sad state when ypu post a plea to heal the earth, and you get less that 2 dozen responses, pledges etc out of a possible 70,000 pr more. It's no wonder Mother is in her death throes. I cry for you who can and yet do notthing. I will never give up in this quest... Blessed be dru Hoya

Dear John T., There are different ways of helping our World, Mother Earth. For instance, as someone who is mobility challenged & of little financial means, my only way is through prayer & meditation. Take care, be well, blessings & best wishes. Cynthia

Peace and blessings; You are doing what you can, it's all anyone can do. It may be too late to halt this untimely death by physical means. It is up to us who have the power of prayer, meditation to do what we must. We can alter Her fate. But the key word here is "we"! I am so glad to have you on our side. Blessed be John (dru Hoya)

...and it saddens me to no end that with all my cross posting of my "Call to Arms" plea that lest than 20 pledges have been made. And it also mystifies me that of a group of 160 there was such small reply.
I really don't know what to say. I was deep in my forest on Vancouver Island. The trees, the moss, the streams, rocks, soil...everything sang of energy. My trees don't want to die anymore than you would
wish harm on our Mother! But by inaction, are we not sealing Her fate as well as that of all her children?
Please, feel free, NO ENCOURAGED to spread the message in my Call to Arms! On-line, off-line, however you can...
Peace and blessed be my friends

First of all, let me say that I thought the Pledge was well-written and deeply moving. I wish that was our nation's Pledge of Allegiance. If we had a Planetary Pledge of Allegiance that was similar to the one John wrote, imagine how different the state of our world would be.
I pledge to devote myself to our beautiful planet, body and soul, May 1st and every day of my life. I have taken the liberty of spreading your Pledge to my friends and family online who are not members of this group, John, because I thought they could use the wake-up call.
It does get discouraging, I know, when to so many of us the changes that need to be made--including the personal sacrifices, such as walking instead of driving or buying things that might be more expensive because we know that they promote a more sustainable method of farming, for example--seem obvious, yet so many people just can't or won't see what needs to be done in order to save the planet. What really gets me is that you'd think that if for no other reason, they'd at least do it to save themselves or their children because if the Earth goes, we all go with her.
However, I believe that the love and the gratitude we feel for the planet heals her as much as the physical actions we take, so if we, each of us, can commit to doing everything within our power as individuals to protect and heal Mother Earth, physically and spiritually, we can make a significant difference. And if people see us walking our talk, then we'll be teaching by example and maybe we'll influence others in a positive way. The ripples could keep on spreading out until we've raised the vibration of the entire population! Who knows? It could happen! (I'm a Leo, people; the sunny outlook comes standard! )
Thank you for signing the pledge Tell your friends about it and us the more names we get the better. This is also being posted in 20 other groups, on yahoo, care2 and myspace.
I think this is winderful! You definitely have my pledge. For some time now I have felt the need to re-ground myself. For me this also calls for me to detox my body. It's a nice day so I think I will work on the compost and replenish what we take out.

I join the pledge - my philosophy is to walk softly on the Earth and to offer thanks and prayers for any resources used. Also, I live in a former coal mining area and very near a quarry, so I pledge to try and send more light and healing to those local wounds, as well as to the world in general. It may only be a tiny drop, but many tiny drops make an ocean.

I pledge to strive for balance. In myself, my home, and my world. In celebrating Beltaine, May1st, a new journey begins. That of growing, not just in spiritual beliefs, but also in becoming closer with nature. The positive energy focus will be to heal Earth and every living thing.

This is a beautiful idea and a beautifully written pledge . I have made this pledge in my heart years ago , and am happy to see such enthusiasim for it here . While I agree we need to change the way we treat our Mother who sustains us , it is entirely for our own benefit . We are destroying our planet's ability to sustain US , but Life will find a way . Our Mother will shake us off like a bad case of fleas , take a few millenia to renew herself , and keep on spinning with or without us . Maybe if people looked at it as "saving themselves" instead of "saving the planet" they would take it more personally !
Brightest Blessings to all those hearts trying to make a difference ,
I now live this pledge everyday, but am thrilled to join each & every one of you on May 1st in doing something EXTRA special for Gaia! I gave up driving a car over 7 years ago. (I walk or ride a bike) My family of 5 uses VERY little electricity and water. We produce 1 paper grocery bag of garbage each month, recycle & compost the rest. We are vegans and give no $$ towards any kind of animal part. Not just for the animal cruelty, but also the assault on the Earth & our resources. I garden organically and am slowly turning my entire backyard into a garden. I have begun teaching people to make these same changes in their lives and have never had so much fun! Together, we can all make a difference!
I'm already living green but my pledge is to do more work on my wildlife habitat property. I need to replenish some no hunting signs too.

I am so happy to have all you wonderful people on board with this. It's a shame that "we" are such a small percentage of folks who can effect a change but haven't the time/inclination or whatever. I can only hope that in the next few days we can get others to find the confidence to "get out there" May 1st and do what can be done to save our Mother. Peace & love Blessed be! dru H.

Count us in!
Don't forget ground cover!!!! Switch your lawn to a ground cover native to your area! Lawn mowers smell bad, pollute the envirnment and grass requires too much water and fertilizer! Our mother gave the ground we live on natural cover that is designed to survive the environment where we llive (drought resistant, bug resistent, disease resistent), so make use of her knowledge!
Brightest Blessings!

Just got a compost bin NEXT year it will be useable and FREE
Got rid of the last ordinary light bulbs.
Gone back to the watering can from the hose
Just about to remove another lawn put down bark chip and some large logs.
Planted 2 budlia (The butterfly bush)
Another small step for me BUT if we add it to all the other small steps in the list above a it addeds up to a large step.
Keep it going, we are starting to make a diiference in our lives. We can now start to sped the message to our friends and neighbours.
This was the first small step to make the group more pro active. A small step to help eleviate Global warming and all great journies start with one small step
One small step for me, but one with great impact May 01, 2007 4:09 PM
OK, for years I've been recycling plastic grocery bags, as well as reusing them as small garbage bags and kitty waste bags. In honour of my May 1st pledge, I finally splurged and bought some really nice eco-friendly shopping bags made from recycled material that fold up really small, but hold a TON of groceries. No more plastic bags for me!
I am working hard to reduce the amount of waste my family produces (ongoing project) and have been trying to really drill it in to my boys' heads that we need to recycle and compost as much as possible. I am proud to report that I have "caught" them reminding each other not to throw away compostable or recyclable materials this past week.
Another idea for people wanting to get rid of their traditional grass lawns is to plant wildflowers as groundcover. We did that at the last place we lived and it was really beautiful. We had a range of flowers all spring and summer long, lots of bees and butterflies (I like bees and with the current bee crisis, I think we'd do well to welcome them) and we never had to mow! They are perennial and many wildflowers are good for magickal and medicinal purposes.
Standing atop a rock overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca at Saxe
Point, I saw the majesty of the Olympic Mountain Range, the blue
clarity of the water. I felt the rock beneath my feet and heard the
wind rustle the fir trees nearby.
Not far way from where I stood, on April the 8th, we gave my mothers
ashes to the sea. And I thought "My mother to our Mother". And I was at
peace. On May 1st, I stood and held my arms outstreched to the four
winds. I knelt and sang a song of healing. I felt the soothing touch of
Mother as I placed both palms on the rock. The wind picked up as if in
a strong thank you. I closed my eyes and envisioned what I must do at
the time and did so.
I stood and again I heard the sound of the wind in the trees,
smelled the ocean air, gazed at Her Majesty...and felt at peace,
knowing I had given what I could and knowing that we have made a
difference.

Suzi,
Hit the garage sales girl! I have about 15 bags that I got for less than a dollar just by going to garage sales. Seems tote bags always end up in rummage sales/garage sales/ etc for less than a buck!
just an FYI: I had the funniest experience at Wal Mart yesterday. I took my own bags in, and the greeter tried to give me a sticker for 'returnables'. It took me a minute to explain to him they were my shopping bags. Same experience at check out: I use the self-checkout, and the monitor lady tried to get me to ring up my bags! Had to have a giggle over it.
Tony,
Look up native groundcovers to Scotland, I think heather, ivy and broom are some. They are much more attractive than wood bark, and will give native wildlife (bugs, birds, etc) a source of food and cover. Also good for the oxygen producing effects! And magic!
Our new house has a very small lawn, no bigger than 9x6 ft. We are going to try to turn it all into flower beds, if we can! The rest is all bare so we are going to do groundcover instead of grass. People down here don't realize that grass will not grow under oak and pine. But our mother did supply us with groudcovers that will thrive, including some of the most beautiful ferns you will find!
So, here in the states most university agriculture cooperatives offer free or reduced price native plants for people to use in their yards. It's called xeriscaping. I'd be willing to bet most of the european universities have a similar service, since Europe tends to be greener minded than the states!
So, blessed be and think green!

My alternative to a lawn is growing food for my family & some for wildlife. This year we are turning almost the entire backyard into a garden. But, I am leaving a patch of grass as I love to sit out in the yard in the grass & feel it on my feet. I also acquired some Himalayan Goji Berry seeds & am soooooo excited to grow my own! If you haven't tried these amazing berries, I highly recommend them! They are the most nutritious food on the planet and they make you feel great! They immediately relieve symptoms of Lupus, Fibromyalgia, etc... Just don't tell the FDA I said that! LOL I planted the first 24 seeds May 1st by candlelight because we used NO electricity that day in our home. Dinner was interesting, but fun!
& Tony, When you find that whiskey tree, pls grab one for me too! teehee My great grandmother lived to be 99 years old & said it was the whiskey she drank every day!
I too, pledge to honor and care for our Mother Earth, trying always to tread softly in my own little corner.
I love learning the various ways people have come up with to reduce, reuse, recycle--how very hopeful!!!
Though it may be true that now we number only 20, 50, or 80 through our prayers and good example others will follow, and our little "ripple" will soon be quite a "wave"!!
