NATIVE WILD BISON ARE A PUBLIC RESOURCE FOR ALL PEOPLE TO ENJOY!

Not sure if you posted this already Tasunka.

All:

Wildlife in Montana are a public resource that we can all still enjoy.  However, there are forces at work within our legislature and elsewhere that see value, immense value in privatizing and commercializing our public wildlife.  The former governor of Montana made a serious error in judgment in this regards.  Instead of empowering the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks department to initiate a public planning process for native bison restoration and conservation in the State of Montana as a valued native wildlife species held in trust in the public domain, he opted for political expediency and instructed the FWP to barter away a significant portion of the public’s bison offspring (75%) to a private party.  These “quarantine” bison came from Yellowstone National Park and have been deemed “brucellosis-free and genetically pure.”  They are critically important to the native wild public bison restoration and conservation effort in Montana.

Because promoting privatization and commercialization of native public wildlife is a significant violation of the public trust responsibilities of the Montana FWP, the Gallatin Wildlife Association and others have been forced to take this issue to court.  I have attached a copy of our proposed order, which was drafted by our attorney Summer Nelson.  The hearing for this case is scheduled for Friday March 29th at the Gallatin Country Courthouse beginning at 1:30 PM (address linked below).  The public is welcome to attend and hear the oral arguments of the case.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call or drop me a quick email.
