In this beautiful passage that was written c160 B.C., we're to read the phrase, (comes forth hoar-frost), as a reference to the north; the seven high mountains are the stars,1 and we're to read the days, as the ticking away of time by the daily rotation of the Little Dipper around the pole star, Polaris.
The seasons are to be interpreted as a reference to earth's yearly circuit around the sun, and the years passing away, as earth's continuous orbital circumstance!
