Hi, I'm a new member and I thought I'd start off with telling you about a few of my favorite books and authors. My favorite genres are fantasy, mysteries and historic novels. I love the classics in each genre but also some new authors. I even have a special home page about my favorite books and authors among other things. Here are some of my favorite fantasy books and authors: Garth Nix - his books about Sabriel and her family are absolutely fantastic. Rebecka Lickiss. I especially love her book Eccentric Circles. When it comes to mysteries I love "older" titles like all of Michael Innes' books I've read so far. I also like more modern ones like Reginald Hill's Dalziel and Pascoe series, Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown's Mrs Murphy mysteries and finally (though I'm not sure this qualifies as exactly mystery) Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. Whenever I'm depressed (which happens all the time) I always feel better when I read one of her books. These are just a few of my favorites. I'm looking forward to reading about your favorites and getting to know you guys. Camilla  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi Camilla, I've just joined as well. So, we're both really big book worms. I'm into Stephen King, Raymond E Fiest, JRR Tolkien, autobiographies and biographies as well. The best thing is, I'm also a writer; so reading helps me to write. At the moment I've just finished 'On Writing' by Stephen King and started 'From A Buick 8' by the same author. I never get bored with my choice of books and they've always helped me through any challenges I've had to face as I used to be often in and out of hospitals epilepsy problems; not so much now. But I'm usually found up late at night reading when I can't sleep. When I'm not reading, I cook, do gardening, photography, sing in a choir, volunteer work and just enjoy hanging out with friends and paint as well.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi All! I've just joined and wanted to say hello! I love reading, anything and everything. I love reading history books in particular (mainly about English history between Billy the Conqueror and Henry VIII) and my choice of fictions is fairly wide. My favourite ever reads are: His Dark Materials (Philip Pullman), Making History (Stephen Fry), Neverwhere and Coraline (Neil Gaiman), The Sparrow and Children of God (Mary Doria Russell), The Chrysalids (John Wyndham) and Five Boys (Mick Jackson). I'm also partial to a bit of Zola, but need to be in the right mood! The one author I have little time for is Jane Austen - I just can't see it! But I'm sure that's down to me, not her! I just joined as well. Camilla, I agree with you completely about Garth Nix's Sabriel series. I love his books, especially this series, which I've read like three times. I also love Meg Cabots' the Mediator and 1-800-Where-R-U series. Also, I like Anne Rice and Tolkien, though it takes me awhile to work through their books.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Hello January 04, 2005 12:32 PM

Hi everyone. I have not yet explored many of the authors that some of you guys have listed, but I will certainly check into them and see what they are like. I grew up reading horror, with Stephen King being my favorite all the way up to and through highschool. I ventured on to Anne Rice, which I still enjoy reading. The Mayfair Witches have to be my favorite books, and of course the Vampire books. I now enjoy reading Clive Barker, with Imajica probably being my all-time favorite book. Harry Harrison is a great author, but I've on read his West of Eden trilogy, which I come to enjoy over and over again. Fantasy and horror are not my only reads, just happen to be my passion and the ones that come to mind. I would be grateful for any suggestions of more good reads. Hi! January 08, 2005 2:48 PM

Hi Pamela, If you like fantasy books, I have a few authors to recommend. Cornelia Funke, Christopher Paolini, and Jonathan Stroud all write good fantasy books (don't have to much horror though). I myself don't like horror books that much, but otherwise I will like just about any well written book. ;-)  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Thanks David, I will check them out. I'm not big into fantasy, I guess they have to meet a certain type of fantasy for me to read. West of Eden is probably the most-fantasy I get, beyond Clive Barker's Imajica. lol. I will google them and see what they are like. Welcome.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
