Barbara Kingsolver March 28, 2005 8:37 AM

This is an author who has a lot of interesting things to say! Has anyone else enjoyed her work?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I've heard very good things about this author but I've yet to read any of her work. What would you recommend I start with?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I've only read The Poisonwood Bible, and while it was a good book, I didn't like any of the characters, which made it hard for me to enjoy.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

What was it about, Michelle? I've just started reading Vikram Seth's An Ordinary Boy. It's 1500 pages long so I might not be reading anything else for a while! Still, it's engrossing stuff so far, the characterisations are wonderfully vivid.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

The Poisonwood Bible is the story of a family of missionaries that went to Africa in the sixties. It is both the story of what happened to the family, especially the daughters, and the story of the country that they went to.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I LOVE Barbara Kingslover. The Poisonwood Bible was a good book, but it made me very angry. The book does an excellent job at giving a glimpse into a missionary's life. It was sad how a person's "faith" is pushed onto others, but this still happens today. My favorite book of Kingslover is Prodigal Summer. Her depiction of nature is sooo beautiful. Has anyone read The Bean Trees?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

The first one of hers I read was "Animal Dreams." This is part of a trio. I'm hoping she comes out with a new one soon.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
The Bean Trees May 21, 2005 7:36 AM

I've bought The Bean Trees in a used-book store, and browsed through it, but haven't read it yet. But I've liked it enough to buy Pigs in Heaven at the same store... *brownhair*  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
