Happiness is the sense that one matters November 18, 2009 11:29 AM

To believe that we do not matter is to feel isolated and worthless.  We harbor the thought that it is of no importance if we exist or not.  Carried further, this feeling makes us believe that it would be better if we didn't exist.  Many people have taken their lives when they could not find their way out of this painful frame of mind.
This feeling of worthlessness is one of the symptoms of depression.  Fortunately, many lives are now being brought back into balance with the aid of medication and professional help.
Many co-dependents suffer depression brought about by suppressing feelings, especially anger.  We turn it inward and rage against ourselves.  When we have emptied ourselves of the pain, we can affirm that we are deserving of love and happiness.

I was created by God and I have a purpose in life.  I am learning to love myself and to understand that I matter to others.

You will never really know what I mean... September 20, 2009 1:45 PM

and I will never really know exactly what you mean.  Mike Nichols

As we listen to others recount their stories, express their pain and share their growth, we may not connect to everything they say, but if we listen with an open heart, we will be listening as well as humanly possible.

I WILL LISTEN TO OTHERS WITH AN OPEN HEART.

Wisdom comes by disillusionment May 23, 2009 4:19 PM

Many people are under the illusion that life owes them something.  When reality sets in, it knocks them down and roughs them up.  Then they must choose between staying in the illusion and being bitter and cynical or wise up and grow up.

AS I RECOVER, I WILL GROW UP IN WISDOM AND FIND INNER PEACE.

The self is not something that one finds... February 03, 2009 2:00 AM

it is something you create.

Each day is an opportunity to grow and become more whole.  I want my life to be rich in color and bathed in light.

GENTLE REMINDERS...FOR CO-DEPENDENTS September 03, 2007 10:06 PM

It is important that people know what you stand for. It is equally important that they know what you won't stand for. Most of us have said yes to the wishes of others all of our lives. But we are able to say no to ourselves w/out a second thought. In fact, our self-denial is so ingrained we aren't even aware that we do. And when we have an assertive thought, we scold ourselves. I WILL NOT SAY YES TO OTHERS IF IT MEANS COMPROMISING MY INTEGRITY.  [ send green star]
