Favorite type of beer

Mine is Hefeweizen. What's yours?

Tetley's Bitter, though I don't mind the odd lager
dark beers for me
I would probably have to go with a porter, and I am particularly partial to Anchor Porter. The Rogue Chocolate Stout is tough to beat also though. I have been trying to get more into lighter beers (though my idea of a light beer is many people's idea of a heavy beer because they tend to be strong ales). However, speaking of Hefeweizen, I have gotten to really like a German or Belgian Hefeweizen, where there is yeast at the bottom that you pour in at the end of the bottle and it completely changes the color and flavor of the beer.

I love, love, love an oatmeal stout. If you've never had one, give it a try. Almost tastes like espresso, which I also love, love, love.... Hefewezien ain't half bad neither....
a good beer...
I know a good beer has only four ingredients. It started or applies to the old purity law on brewing. I love the black and tan mix of stout and pilsner beers. It has a nutty and sweet taste. Another favorite brew is 'Bass Ale' from Britain, and started out in 1777. No after taste, and goes down smooth, and to me has a good quality of a slight bitterness. A great beer that has a wide variety of brewing is Samuel Adams. It is one of the favorite beers that germany imports over to them, and has a great 'octoberfest' brew. Homemade beer is so good if it's done right. With the best 'flowery' hops and good ingredients, and patients, real good beer can be made and enjoyed.

persoanlly, i love stong hoppy ales from the pacific northwest, like oregon, norcal, and washington. A high percentage of alcohol is always good to, but it has to have flavor. I love traditional european brews, but usually only as a change from my standard strong ales.
This could take me a while...I think my all time favourite beer would be an Australian one...Coopers Sparkling Ale. I love Coopers because they brew all their beers in the bottle. That said, I'm getting hooked on Kilkenny Draught at the moment...
i take it day by beer
As I reflect on this, and read other posts, I think that my 'favorite' beer is very transitory. Some days I want nothing less that a nice strong hoppy microbrew ale, such as Moylan's Kilt lifter, or Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Other days, I want something sweet and dark like the Dechutes Obsidian Stout or a Marin Brewing's San Quentin Breakout Stout. Then again, some days all I want is a crisp lighter beer, like Lagunitas' Siruis Ale or the the Italian Peroni. So basically, my favorite beer depends on my mood and the weather, so it switches almost daily.
I agree...
I agree with Jeff. Sometimes it's a heavy black and tan 'mississippi mud' or 'guiness extra stout', and on a hot day like today, a bit of a lighter brew will do. As long as it's cold. And sometimes I even like to leave beer out at room temperature to really get the taste of a good beer. In Europe they usually always serve the beer at room temperature too.

I have to say, I really liek the names of beers - I'm having fun reading all of your posts! I liek to go to Toronado in San Francisco and try beers based on their name - I ordered Big Daddy once, that was a hoot (I think I liked it... )

three words: pabst blue ribbon three more words: never drink it.... Remember, its got to have flavor!

My favorite is Coors. I especially liked their "Winterfest," but sadly I don't believe it's produced anymore. Years ago there was a non-alc beer called "L.A." that I really liked as well. Could anyone point me in the direction of some micro-brews along the lines of the same taste of those afore-mentioned beers?

Oregon Microbrews all the way

Being from Oregon I got a lil spoiled in the area of a good brew. Now, living in TX I make due with whats available... not much. Im always in the mood for a Rouge Dead Guy Ale, on hot summer days Full Sail rip curl or Pale Ale. Chocolate Stout is a nice winter brew (room temp) Just discovered Lamar St., an organic ale from the east coast. Very crisp smooth finish. Last but not least...Black Butte Porter. No other porter compares to it...and sadly...I cant get it here.
Guinness

Guinness is what I generally drink if I can get it in the US. Originally being from England, I love dark ales and bitters, but I don't find good ones easy to come by in my corner of New Jersey. There is a brewpub not too far away which does do some good stuff, though.
So many good beers, so little time...

Favorite beers.... mmmm.... Homebrew always. Wheat beer in summer. Dark porters and stouts in winter. Amber ales all year 'round. Of the commercial beers my favorites are Moose Drool Ale (from the Big Sky Brewing Co. in Missoula, MT) and Modelo Negra. I also like Fat Tire Amber Ale and Cutthroat Porter from the New Belgium Brewing Co. in Ft. Collins, CO. Cheers!

Chimnay Ale...

This is another great brew, and is made bt the trappist monks I believe. I haven't had one in a while, and only get this brew during the holiday season being it is very expensive. The bottles have a cork instead of cap, and have three different brews, and is a bit on the strong side but very good. They are generally sold individually but a six pack is the way, but is almost 50 dollars! I haven't had it in a while, but I think it is a Belgium brew.

For those who have heard of Sierra Nevada Brewery in Chico, They have a lot of different types of beers, about 16 last time I checked!! A lot of them are darn good beers, and in Chico there are a few nights a week you can get a pitcher of one of 9 of their brew on tap at local bars = $2.99, 60oz pitcher. But I have to say I like North Coast Brewery in California, They have a lot of great strong beers! “Old Stock Ale” it is 11.5%, rather smooth and light! http://northcoastbrewing.com/oldstock.htm My Favorite Dark beers! Porterhouse in Dublin, If you ever vist, go there http://www.porterhousebrewco.com/ Wow, they were good and too much on tap!! Happy Drinking and Brewing! Sean

My favs

It's very hard to list one favorite so here's a few of mine and I definately recommend them: DunkelWeizen: It's kind of like Hefeweizen but with a special twist.Deep copper in color (dunkel means "dark" in german), this has a very subtle toasted note that gives it a richness that's totally unexpected. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Mechlenberg Bock: There's an old myth that brewers clean their kettles in the spring and Bock beer is made from residue in the kettle. This has no truth to it.This is a traditional beer that has a smooth, deep malt flavor, and a delightful hop aroma. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Flying Pig Pilsner: This pilsner is a clean, crisp beer with a nice hop finish. This is an original lager develpoed by the Pilsner Urquell brewery in 1842.Before then, all beers were dark and hazy. This is a clear, golden colored beer that revolutionized the brewing industry. The secret was a new kind of yeast, aged at cold temperatures. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Old Speckled Hen: An English Brown Ale that is well balanced with an emphasis on the malty quality.Plenty of hop character in it, a toasty, malty flavor.More of a session beer.

Being a dedicated Ale drinker I find there are so many exiting Ales out there. Here are some of my favourites. WAGGLEDANCE ---- brewed by Young's Brewery ---- This strong, golden beer brewed using honey is named after a bee's motion or dance to alert other bees to pollen. It has honey aromas and a sweet taste tempered with malt and fruit. HOOKY DARK ---- brewed by Hook Norton Brewery ---- A dark chesnut coloured ale. Full of roast malt flaqvours, it is complimented with dry hop aromas. BLACK BULL BITTER ---- brewed by Theakston Brewery ---- Crisp and refreshing: goldings hops result in a citrus flavour (in both taste and smell), allied with a satisfying dry taste throughout. NOTLEY ALE ---- brewed by Vale Brewery ---- A refreshing copper-coloured session bitter with some malt in the aroma and taste, and an uncompromising dry finish. LONDON PRIDE ---- brewed by Fullers Brewery ---- A smooth and astonishingly complex beer, which has a distinctive malty base complemented by a rich balance of well developed hop flavors from the target, challenger and northdown varieties in the brew. BODDINGTON ---- brewed by Boddingtons Brewery ---- "Vanilla Guiness" Is rich and creamy and slightly sweet (you can sense a touch of honey as it goes down), and it leaves you with a clean, pleasant aftertaste in your mouth. AND FINALLY THE ABSOLUTE FAVOURITES: HOBGOBLIN ---- brewed by Wychwood Brewery ---- A powerful full-bodied ruby red, well-balanced brew. It’s strong in roasted malt with a moderate hoppy bitterness and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end. Full chocolate toffee malt flavour balanced with a rounded moderate bitterness and an overall fruity character. FIDDLER'S ELBOW ---- brewed by Wychwood Brewery ---- A golden and refreshing beer and evokes the lazy, hazy days of summer in golden meadows & ripe corn fields. This wheat-brewed refreshing summer ale is a wonderful combination of citrus and floral aroma, with tart citric fruit flavours and a long hoppy fruity finish. A wonderfully refreshing beer.

Really anything Dark. Particularly fond of Propeller Porter (Nova Scotia). Although I'm rarely disappointed by any micro-brewed dark stuff. Sleeman's has a good Cream Ale. Home Brew rocks as well! My senior year we had a really good stout/porter thing going on too. A pub in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Paddy's, does their own brewing and all of them are quite tastey (6 in total). I'm a huge fan of the Raven though.

Augustiner EDELSTOFF

Pale lager - Spezial.
Lemon, ginger and butter aroma, sweetish taste with butter, pepper and malt aromas, bitter finish with hop, citrus and grass aromas.
A pretty good beer with lots of fresh hop flavours and a touch of maltiness. One of the best examples of this difficult to brew style.

A great treat for every beer expert.  My favourite

A must if you come to Europe
this beer at Augustiners in the city!
And this museum on beer! Better than anything you know!

I love beer... we are in summer season right now... 30 celsius every single day... at 7 Pm all I want is have a cold Erdinger...

National (chilean) beer... because of the heat, lagers. Like a Kunstmann lager. Maybe the best lager in this country. In winter I drink black beer or strong beers, like Patagona Austral or Bock Kunstmann.

Beer is the best. And with home made pizza...

Hey g'day y'all, thankz Hans for the invite (hic) ~ i'm a grog guzzling aussie from downunder in the land of oz, and i don't mind a decent drop (hic) lol ~ i used to brew my own, prefering an aussie drop called, Coopers sparkling ale, they also brew a cool dark, almost like Guiness ~ but i also dug making the European brews from Germany, Belgium and Holland ~ but my problem began when i started making 8%, i could never finish 4 longnecks in a day, and my liver ended packing up after 18 months of drinking it ~ my liver level (can't remember the term, but it was 165, when itz s'posed to be under 60, mmmmm yes ~ so 3 months without a drop (and that was freekin hard) weekly blood tests, and a strict liver diet ~ i'm sure some of you guyz must know what i mean, no fat, no dairy products, no booze sob, and after the 3 months my doctor waz so proud of me ~ my level got down to 65 hehe ~

In this pic i'm drinking whale safe beer, called 'Blue Tongue', itz a boutique beer made by the same brewers az 'Two Dogs' and 'Bondi Blonde' ~ for every carton sold a buck waz donated to Sea Shepherd for their campaign against the Japanese whalers down in the Antarctic...

xyz?

Ahhhh, a nice cool chug, lovely and crisp, fresh from the freezer on a steaming hot aussie summers afternoon...

xyz?

cheers from downunder my good drinkin amigos

Grolsch is the Dutch Premium Quality Lager

Grolsch has a distinctive, full bodied and crisp taste that has been developed through almost four centuries of crafted brewing tradition.

Grolsch owes its superb quality to the selection of the finest natural ingredients, the traditional bottom fermentation brewing process and the combination of two hop types.

Peter Cuyper’s significant discovery of the two hop types in the mid 1600s has been recognized by incorporating them into the Grolsch Brewery logo that is still in use today. This design has been inspirational as a symbol of the distinctive taste of Grolsch, which will be brought to mind wherever you see this logo.

People enjoy Grolsch because of its quality and distinctive taste. Just try it and compare it with your favourite beer!

I am allmost sure that you like Grolsch better! Try it!

I'm simple - Any form of Miller is good.  Ice brewed beers appeal to me.  Also if you plan to go cheap I would recommend Milwaukee's Best Ice.  I'm flexible with trying new beers but I have a problem with any beer from Budweiser for some reason.

I am fond of Porters. yet the old stand by is Pilsner Urquell.

It never fails.

I also enjoy Stouts, both drier ones, in addition to Milk Stouts on occasion.

I remember the first time I tried Guinness with a couple of friends up behind the old Coke Plant! Wow!

Lambic, Smoked, Belgian, are fun.

Lowenbrau was the first beer I tasted, on a New Years Eve, so that holds a special place~ and is available again. Grolsch or Dortmunder {DAB} are fine, too.

Oh, to get one started on the good beers out there...

My hope is for more Organic beers being available.

I notice such a difference in vegetables and coffee, and can only believe any beer would better if organic.

They are hard to find, but always worth picking up!

HI I am new around here.  Hope nobody minds that I invited myself?

As far as my faves go it all depends on my mood.  I have to admit that untill I moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest  in 2001 my tastes in beer were pretty pathetic.  I expected to have access to great coffee when I got here but was pleasently surprised at the wealth of great beer as well.

When the weathers nice there is nothing better than a Pyramid Apricot Ale or even a Kokanee Gold out of Canada.  When I am looking for something with a little more flavor I go for the "reds".  I especially like Alaskan Amber or Mac & Jacks.  During the winter season I love sampling all the seasonal brews. Redhook Brewery's "Winterhook" is consistently a winner.

In general, I prefer Belgian beers (although Stella Artois is not among my favorites). "Brouwers" in Seattle (Fremont) has quite some Belgian (among others) beers available.

Hi all I found my place at last!

I find the darker the beer the better. But for the last 2-5 yr its been Killian's Irish Red for me! Never was much of a beer drinker before. All the beer drinkers around me all my life drank Budwiser...No thank you. So I was always a mixed drink kinda of gal! Then a US. statistic member came to my door and asked me to take part in a survey. So I did and 6 weeks later when we were done with the survey she asked me to dinner to thank me for helping her out. She bought me Killian's with an orange slice on the rim of the glass. I fell in love with the stuff. I introduced it to my husband and now he will not go near a budwiser, Our goal whe n traveling is to try the local dark and red beers...

The Hoppiest and Tastiest is "Hop Stoopid" By Lagunitas.102 IBU's 8% alcohol
