Oh! May 09, 2005 1:02 AM

You poor thing! It would be great if you could somehow introduce your fiance to rats in a good way....maybe visit a breeder who can tell him about how sensitive and loving rats really are?  Oh!, if he just got to hold and cuddle one that is really sweet (well!, aren't they all )I do so very much hope he can get over the fright because it's awfull for him, and I understand and respect him being affraid. We're all affraid of something or other, afterall, and we can't help it. But still, poor you I hope you do get a ratty in the end, good luck!

Different breeds of rat May 10, 2005 4:21 AM

Why not take your fiance to see Dumbo Rex rats or any of the other specialty breeds? We started off with plain old pet store rats and then got two Dumbo Rex ones. To me, they don't really even look like rats. More like little bears. They have big ears set on the side so they have a more open face and their fur is all wooly and curly so it doesn't have that sleek rat texture. I have to say that rats really impressed me as NOT being eager to bite. I was not so happy with gerbils, our ferocious bunny or hampsters. Rats seem to know when they are really in peril and will bite then as a last resort. I've been bitten by accident (just nipped, no skin tear) when they have encountered stretchy fabric and are curious what it is. Or we have had woes with territorial disputes. I think you have to be patient with you fiance. The fear comes from someplace. Theresa  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Progress May 10, 2005 11:14 AM

Great progress with your significant other! Congratulations! Wait until he falls in love with rats. Pretty soon he'll be buying treats for them and little houses and t-shirts with rats on them...

Hee Hee!

P.S. - I agree about the Rex Dumbos. If you can't get a Dumbo, at least get a rex. My first 3 boys were Rex and I still love Rex the most!!!  [ send green star]
