Me September 14, 2004 12:20 PM

Well, I thought an interesting topic that everybody likes to talk about is... ourselves! Because that's what most of us know most about, after all. So... with me... I go horse-riding, I love all animals, I hope to be a vet, and should manage if I meet my min. target grade of all A's (though I am acheiving A*s in art, biology, physics, latin, french and ancient greek) though I will need to be good at not just multiple choice exams! I am working towards grade 6 flute and grade 5 theory. I am a left-handed aquarian who hates things such as fashion , short skirts and other material values. I will get married at 26 (just out of uni) and my worst enemies are all rat-hating tarts (who say I should stop loving rats and get a boyfriend) If people call me a 'geek' I am flattered (unless they want to hurt my feelings). I am a green belt at karate I have fallen off horses 3 times in the 4 yrs I have ridden and been trampled on once I was bullied by my 'best friends' when I was 11 because I had rats (which was ironic because so did one of them) I like playing the flute, fife, flageolet and recorder, doing art and writing stories and poetry I have become quite aggressive because of some advice a pacifist gave me My parents are teachers And finally I'm going to stop now because I fear you are asleep. So pls tell me about you?  [ send green star]

Well, I love all animals too. I want to be an author or a teacher. I'm a sophmore in high school. I'm a right-handed Libra who hates fashion, and all that stuff- I really don't get why people follow up on that junk. Sorry if I offended you. I love to read and write(mostly poetry). My mother is a nurse and my father is a slot attendant. I have 3 dogs and I have a brother and a sister. Well, I have to go eat dinner, so I'll have to leave you anyways So hi!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi September 14, 2004 3:58 PM

Hi Caitlin! Offended me? I agree with you! Isn't that what I said? Anyway, It's nice to meet someone my own age for a change.  [ send green star]

i love all animals too! (except maybe mosquitos) i'm a right-handed Aries. i've been vegetarian for 7 years (ovo-lacto, avoid all gelatin & glycerin, plus leather). i AM a pacifist, and i find it disturbing that anyone would abandon this philosophy or embrace its opposite just because of one person's advice! i enjoy a wide variety of movies & music. i like taking pictures with my digital camera, usually of animals, landscapes, clouds, and recently the planets that i can find in my telescope! (so far just Saturn, Venus is too bright; oh, the moon too of course) i'm an old-timer at 31. i'm one of those fairly rare people who admits to not being terribly proud to be an American. the discrepancy between our percentage of the world's population and our use of the world's resources is disgusting. i'm sickened by the continued mass production and purchase of gas-guzzling SUVs & trucks, and wish a LOT more people would buy hybrids! i agree that fashion and other passing fads related to it are stupid and deserve absolutely NONE of my attention whatsoever. i feel the same way about all professional (and for that matter, collegiate) sports.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Ok, SORRY Michael! It's not like I'm aggressive towards people. But anyway, I'm a lacto-ovo veggie too but half my family are lactose intolerant and eggs give me headaches, so I only have them in cakes and stuff. I never have gelatine either. My ratties are SOO cute but mischeivous. Ilove my babies.  [ send green star]

Hi Everybody! I'm a 26 year-old (soon to be 27) right-handed Scorpio (I know, I know). I too think trends are stupid, but that doesn't change the fact that I like reinventing myself from time to time just to keep things interesting! I can say, however, that I like trends for people watching (and laughing!). My fiance and I have 16 rats, 1 cat, 1 hamster, a ground squirrel that was abandoned as a baby, 5 Koi and a Beta. %) Yes, we're totally insane, but it's fun! I'm vegetarian (can't quite give up cheese) and have been since I was 19. I also practice massage, aromatherapy, reiki, shiatsu, reflexology and some other stuff, which I find to be very rewarding!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I'm a veggie too. Oh right, I already said that. Well, I have a mouse that was abandoned as a baby. It was rolling around outside an off-licence when my dad found it. I am FREEZING here it's so cold and I just got back from riding.  [ send green star]

16 rats? And are koi fish? And what's a beta?  [ send green star]

Yup! 16 Rats (can you believe it? - I can't!). We got a little too excited about rescuing the helpless little guys. Koi and Beta are both fish. Koi are ornamental goldfish often found in Japanese gardens (they get HUGE) and Betas are sometimes called Siamese Fighting Fish from Thailand. This site has a photo http://ng.netgate.net/~jlatham/Betta.html (ours is male) Betas are interesting fish because they actually breathe air! What other kinds of pets do you all have? ~H  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

True old timer September 25, 2004 1:57 PM

Well if 31 is an old timer I must be almost embalmed at 38. I'm a right handed Scorpio. I part time homeschool my three kids, 14 yog, 11 yob and 8 yob. We have a house full of animals, big Dobe/Shep cross dog Malta, fat calico outdoor/downstairs Tasche cat, skill little black and white upstairs/indoor Oreo cat, two little rattie boys rescued from a pet store, snappy doe bunny Caramel rescued from a homeless family and a tank of fish that is reduced to a Chinese algae eater, a beat up tiger barb (all his buddies were bullied to death and the red tailed shark who was clearly a mistake. I love all animals. I love to horse back ride but I rarely get out to do it as I have no car and I live in the city. Last time I went was November of last year when I visited my bestest buds in BC and she has her own horse and we rode on the beach. Very cool memory. I'm not a vegetarian but my 14 yr old is so I make a lot of vegetarian food so she can eat it too. My biggest culinary masterpiece was a vegetarian bread bird last Christmas where I made a bread dough chicken shape filled with stuffing and with carrot sticks for bones so it would hold its shape in baking. With veggie gravy it was awesome and stuffing is the best part of turkey dinner anyway. We don't eat much meat in general but my boys are big meat eaters so there would be a revolution if I tried to cut it out totally. We live simply. I don't follow trends and my 14 yr old is always on about how stuck in the '80s I am. Same hair, same clothes. I'm just edging into style now that bangs are coming back and I decided to grow the edges of mine out a little. Forever in blue jeans with lots of rat pee, dog snot and dirty kid finger marks. But I am loved. I volunteer on the executive board of a family resource centre, Friends of McNabs Island Society (I do the newsletter too) and the provincial homeschool association the NSHEA. I'm always busy. Glad to know you all!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Oh grief...they do have names! September 25, 2004 2:04 PM

Our rats are Jimmy (the stainless steel rat) DiGriz from the Harry Harrison novels my son was reading when we got him. He is a dark charcoal grey and is a bit of a s*&t disturber. He bit the cat last week and set things straight with her. Rocky was gotten a week later because we'd researched that rats need company and my middle boy wouldn't let anyone hold Jimmy for any time so we needed a rat we could all hold. Rocky is a cream colour and is a real loaf. He loves to just lounge around. We call him the Uni-boob when he crawls into the boys' shirts or the third-boob if he crawls in mine. He'll crawl down the neckline and then turn around and peek his head out while nestled in the cleavage. He is one very funny rat. I love them dearly. I could easily give up the rabbit, I don't much like cats but they always seem to find me and I can't say no, I don't like gerbils or hamsters and I'm not fond of birds. But I do so love the rats. I think I shall now always have one as I think they are just the best pets.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
