rat health question for rat-teesha September 22, 2004 8:31 AM

guys, i'm just a bit concerned bout rat-teesha... she appears in good health, bright eyed, not bushy her coat is shiny, her breathing is fine, but she's a LOT less active then she used to be. she used to run her wheel for hours every night, now she hardly ever does. she's not fat, eats a well balanced diet ... but i really dont know how old she is... i guess i've had her bout a year, and she was a lot smaller and seemed pretty young when i got her. she still perks up and wants to come out whenever i say her name, but instead of being all over my desk like she used to, she just curls up somewhere and naps. think she's ok? or are we both just gettin deep into middle age lazy? oh, and she has a big comfy cage, bedded in bermuda grass hay changed every week or so  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Hmm September 22, 2004 11:06 PM

Yeh, maybe she's just getting adult and lazy. Same happened to me at 13.  [ send green star]

LOL!!! at THIRTEEN?! geez, i must've been at least 20 when i hit that point. . . . just remember, you may eventually be classified as an adult, but you NEVER have to become a grown-up!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Does Rat-teesha have a rat buddy? September 23, 2004 1:52 AM

It could be that she needs another rat buddy. I've seen solitary rats really perk up with the introduction of a friend. They do tend to lose that turbo-charged energy as they get more mature too.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
thank you! September 23, 2004 9:12 AM

hmmmm... maybe she DOES need a buddy, tho i hadnt really even planned on one... much less two! I call myself an animal behaviorist, im a horsetrainer and animal lover.. so im thinkin if i got another one, i'd have to introduce them slowly.. maybe side by side cages to let em get to know each other before throwin them together.. one of the dogs seems to really love her... sez hi every mornin, no drooling at her... and i've seen holly-dawg stand mesmerized nose to nose with rat-teesha for minutes at a time.. i was kinda hopin all the interaction around here, humans and animals, would be enuff to keep her entertained. she seems real spunky today, at the moment she's inside the open guitar case rustling  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Hello September 23, 2004 9:53 PM

Has her eating habit's changed at all.?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Hmm September 24, 2004 1:57 AM

Dude, where's my car? Sorry, I just felt like saying that. But anyway, I got really lazy really suddenly. My mum thinks I'm anaemic because of my veggie diet. My dad tried to make me eat meat and I said NO WAY no animal should die just because I'm lazy. But anyway, my girl rats were really lazy in the evenings and really active in the mornngs.  [ send green star]
habits September 25, 2004 9:24 AM

naw... teesha eats just fine... i work part time in a feed store where we have bags of every kind of grain/fruit mix in the world, so her dish is always customized with seeds, dry grains, whole corn, dried fruit, rabbit pellets, and such. for goodies she gets a grape, or piece of banana... and shes crazy bout the fresh garden tomatoes. she'll even nibble a fresh onion or chile pepper now and then... i try to keep her away from sugar and processed stuff, but i'll admit she gets a couple drops of beer now and then. dont worry bout the 'lazys' cat... yer a teenager! give it another year or two and suddenly you'll find all kinds of energy, cause youll be busy chasing boys... or runnin from  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hmm, I'm still not actually into boys, which is kinda bothering me. Everyone else is. And surely I'm not meant to feel drowsy ALL the time?  [ send green star]
