Saskatchewan Considering Ban on Rats October 04, 2004 1:57 PM

I recently saw an article stating that Saskatchewan is considering a ban on rats - including pet rats. I've already sent a letter to the local Saskatchewan paper with my opinion (like they care). They're saying that some of the street rats come from people who release their pet rats into the wild. How long do they really think a pet rat would live in the streets of Saskatchewan? Pet rats are so different from street rats. Keep your eyes our for further news where maybe we can make a difference. Cindy  [ send green star]
Alberta has been rat free for years October 05, 2004 6:01 AM

You do know that Alberta has been rat free for years and it is illegal to own a pet rat there. An Albertan visiting me in the spring explained that it was primarily the work of one man lobbying and actively out killing rats that made the legislation so. Since both provinces are "land locked" and rats cannot be transported in via ships they can successfully keep rats out. I don't think pet rats are the problem but you can't tell people who are afraid of rats or buy into the rat myths that kind of think. I'm thankful I live in NS where ships and the harbour will mean a rat free province is unrealistic.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Hmm October 05, 2004 7:50 AM

That's mean. You know, I think there's a secret war between the government and rats. I think rats are going to take over the world. I've had a random day. Lots of random things have happened. In my ancient greek class today, sausages came up in the translation. I said 'I didn't know they had sausages'. My teacher said, 'sausages yes, bananas no.' And I stared at him and he said, 'I don't know why I just came out with bananas, don't ask.' And that left me confused. Oh, I'm going to get a new book as a prize for being top of the year in Latin, and I was wondering what you thought of this, please take a look: It's called hands on healing for pets.  [ send green star]
Hey Catriona! October 05, 2004 10:06 AM

The book looks wonderful. I think anyone interested in working with animals has an obligation to consider all types of treatment, including touch therapy, Jin Shin, acupuncture, as well as traditional Western and Eastern medicine. Cindy  [ send green star]
