There is nothing like a rat... November 19, 2004 9:38 AM

Nothing Like a Rat

There is nothing like a rat - not a dog nor a cat
To steal your heart with a glance
When you're tired and blue and the world has failed you
See who is there - not by chance

The noble rat, ears pricked just so
Listening hard for your voice, like a statue, head to toe
Then, in a dash, (you grin at the sight)
Feet gripping bars, tiny fingers clutched tight

Whiskers twitching, begging, "Please, come here! I've missed you so and I need to be near!"
And the coldest heart and the gloomy soul
Could not refuse this sight,

This friend evermore wrapped up in you
and all you are and all you do
one tummy kiss, your tears now dried
You and ratty, side by side.

so true November 20, 2004 3:52 PM

Thanks so much for sharing this, it is so true! Debbie Ducommon (sp?) had a quote on another site about a dog looking up to you and a cat looking down on you but a rat is always with you, right where you are at. I think that is so true. Not the least of which, because they are right on my shoulder all the time. Hugs to you!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Aww November 21, 2004 4:07 AM

Yep, that describes my babies perfectly. Oh, Cindy, I e-mailed that rat person you told me to.

My little ratties groom my fringe, just like they do to each other's fur. They're so cute! It's like I'm accepted as a larger species of rat.

I took this testy thing which makes you answer certain questions to analyse your own personality. One of the questions was 'Describe in one word each of the following things... Coffee, Rat, Sea...' and a couple of other things so I did, then at the end it said such things as 'your description of the sea is how you view your life' and 'your description of rat is how you see your enemies'.

Well, my enemies are adorable!

Grooming November 21, 2004 5:50 AM

Our rats groom us all the time. They will be doing a cleanup and as they are going along their fur if they encounter human skin they just keep grooming away. I usually get a good neck wash that way at least once a day. They are so sweet.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
