I'm here too November 20, 2006 4:19 AM

I have been away from this website for some time.  Nice to come back and see some rats though.  I found a baby wild rat abandoned and felt as we have a very small living space, that we could not keep him.  So we took him to the animal shelter, I always wonder though, he was so cute and well behaved.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

any one else here? January 07, 2007 9:50 AM

Hi all glad some folks are here!

I've had 6 rats at one time over the past 3+ years but right now I'm at two and they're living at a friends house. A year ago the uptairs neighbor complained about a smell and management at the apt complex blamed me and kicked the rats out. Turned out it was her carpet. The complex hadn't had it cleaned properly or it should have be taken out before she moved in. The rats were in a not so good situation for months after that but then went to live with my friend. I still pay their expenses and clean their cage.

I'm buying a mobile home but will leave my two with my friend since she takes great care of them and they're thriving there. I won't get any more after Kai and Morgan are gone. It's hard lossing them and the vet bills are as high for them as my cats. I'm lucky that I have a vet that has a very low exotic animal charge.

and I want to brag that my Gaea is SOOOO FAT!  She is a fatty fatty baby-seal-shaped rattie!  She used to be our smallest rat and now she's a little butter ball (short and fat).  I could just eat her she's so cute.  And I know why she's so fat...it's because she's a food monster.  Any time anyone eats anything, there she is.  She appears silently, like a ninja, and she's very, very persistent.  She will expend amazing amounts of energy to get what she wants.

There is a new movie coming out about a rat that loves gourmet food, and that is totally her!  Sushi?  Heck yeah.  Expensive cheese?  But of course.  Receipts from Target?  Delicious.  Ok, maybe she's not as discerning as the movie rat, but she does usually have good taste.  She'll even turn stuff down if it's too plain, but generally if we're eating it, she wants it.  So spoiled.

Lory, tell your husband that, to date, I have not heard of any diseases that are transmitted from rats to humans. These are fancy rats, pet rats, they're nothing like their wild cousins. They CRAVE attention from humans. You can even teach them tricks and potty train them. Also, remember, the Boubonic plague was spread by the fleas on the rats, not the rats themselves.

Maggie, I love the commercials for that Ratatouille movie. However, when they get to the end part were the brother says "Once you muscle past the gag reflex it's not so bad." I laugh, because rats have no gag reflex, they can't vomit.
