I'm actually heading back toward vegan now (approaching full circle after being a vegetarian for over a decade starting in college) by adopting an "alkalarian" approach to eating, and when I don't cheat, I feel just great! :-)
(After years of *not* feeling well, as both a vegetarian and an omnivore, this has been a huge relief.)
The "alkalarian" dietary principles are really simple:
-- low quantities of proteins and carbohydrates
-- high quantities of good natural, unsaturated fats
-- high quantities of greens and high water content vegetables
-- super hydration with 1 liter of "structured" (super alkaline) water per 30 lbs of body weight daily
An ideal meal includes:
-- 75% vegetables, primarily green and raw (a salad, "raw" soup or lightly steamed veggies is the ideal centerpiece for your meal)
-- 25% whole, natural carbs -OR- protein (never both at the same time)
You can read more about alkalarian eating here:

If you're interested in more detail, I've compiled 2 email messages that summarize:
` my alkalizing regimen (a typical day), and
` my favorite alkalizing recipes.
If you'd like copies of either (or both), just email me: http://alkaline-health.com
Hope this helps!

P.S.
One of the great benefits of this strategy is that the super alkaline water really can help to change your taste preferences: within a week of beginning to drink the structured water, I started craving greens! Quite amazing, actually, since I never really cared for salads....
