Dont mind me September 19, 2007 6:41 PM

Merry Meet...

I have to ask, where do I sign up for this "WitchSchool?"

I think I would do lots better as well if I had a mentor.

I have been practicing now for 6 years, and I love it,but it would be nicer to have a mentor.

If you could email me with details at whitewitchmt@excite.com

Thank you so very much....

 Blessed Be....Ostara WW

I'm a lifetime member of WitchSchool and in my second year of classes.  I also recommend that site.  As others have said, mentors come to you when the time is right.  Just learn everything you can, practice what you learn, and the right person will come along -- usually when you least expect it and, at least in my case, from a direction in which you were not looking.

anonymous mmm... February 22, 2007 6:04 AM

the way my mentor and i met was quite interesting... it happened just 3 months ago =D

we where 3 friends talking about women, computers, children, etc, while drinking coke and eating chips... when out of the blue one of them said that he had "discovered the TRUTH" (?????)... instead of laughter that frase ignite and boost the conversation up to the point headaches arose...then the other guy said "i know a witch"- "a wiccan" i replyed so he looked at me with a dazzled look.

anyway... when we run out of caffeine he told me "i'll ask her if i can introduce you two. since i met her i thought she was perfect for you"

actually he was 1/2right cos he was thinking to end my new  no-more-relationships-until-i-become-myself policy... but she was perfect in terms of mentorship. we talked for 2 or three hours, about fear, (the freakin')shadows, faith, the goddess, and life. then she lend me a book (that basic guide by cunningham). donno if he's a good author or not. anyway.

now we talk once in a while, when i struggling with some new concept or just frightned. cos yeah, it can and is frightening to embrace a new life even if your heart asks you to. my catholic mother would reaaally luv to know what im doing.

i thougt of sharing this, maybe i didnt see the thread to say this sort of things.

i hope it can help someone. if not, it felt good to share anyway

Hi, I'm new here and just read this thread.  I've been taking classes at Witch School for quite a while now and you can really get a lot out of it, if you're willing to put the effort in.  I know they're raising the prices on their memberships soon, so you might want to check it out now.  They're also starting a separate Tarot School that might be worth taking a look at too.

Wonderful Posts. April 30, 2006 7:54 AM

Greetings. I think the first step is to be aware that you are not alone. World wide the greater Pagan Community numbers in the millions. Next be aware that you live in a world that is filled with magick and spirit. It is all around you and in everything you do. I like to start each day with a morning prayer to help remind me of this. Mine is, "Blessed is this day, may I walk in beauty, balance and spirit". I rang a small bell and I'm ready for the day. Decide what kind of Pagan you are at this moment. What is your unique Spirit/Nature. Do you wish to follow a certain tradition or path or be more open and free style? I consider myself a Free Style Pagan, a bit of this and a dash of that creating my own spiritual style. Let your main principle be, 'Harm none', which includes yourself. Intention is the key when working Magick, how you do it is secondary. Live your life as if what you do matters, for it does. You are a part of a universal awareness, each of us takeing actions in our lifes that supporrts or harms the whole. Brite Blessings Rev T.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

That's great! I think you'll make clergy with no problem. I'm getting some really good info from everyone. Got my BoS started and going good. I didn't get to go to the Drum Circle Saturday. Lady I was to go with had family come in and so did I. Will go next month though. Have since learned oldest daughter is wiccan and 1 of granddaughters curious when I was cleansing crystals Saturday. Her mom curious too. My son believes very strongly about the 2 stones I gave him. Horse missed his head by 3 inches at work yesterday. That's why I gave them to him! I used to work there and know how dangerous it is.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

LOL I almost tried to pin this topic, and looky looky, I already did when it first came out.

I'm a member of Witch School too. As you know my hubby is new to Wicca(only he's Wiccan, I'm just Pagan) by just a couple of years almost, so we are taking the Corelian courses, him to learn more about Wicca, me because I wish to become a Clergy.

Look into witchschool .com I have heard a few people say its pretty good and I am thinking about signing up myself. There is always more to learn. Nature is your best teacher though. Making the connection between yourself and ALL living things is the road to wisdom. Keep asking questions and talking to people who live their lives by their spirituality. Find out who you really are and what it is you are yearning for and you will be on the right path. Be willing to learn until you pass over, because the lessons may change a bit, but they never end. Good luck and Brightest of all Blessings.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

anonymous eternal search for knowledge... February 02, 2006 6:59 AM

I am not looking for a mentor as such as it would be very difficult where i live, and i don't completely trust people on the net, for obvious security reasons (teenage girl etc etc) so i was wondering whether any of you would have any books to reccomend for me to read? I have read most of Silver Ravenwolf's stuff, Scott Cunningham, Raymond Buckland and a few others, and i found Ravenwolf's good to read, but a bit.. not basic really just simplified. Like she deals with some stuff and skips other bits. Does anyone know any titles for someone who has been interested for a good few years but still doesn't feel like she knows nearly enough? I want to learn mostly aboutt he Goddess, correspondances, and to be honest i'll read anything. Many thanks!! love and light Carol.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Witch's Coven (http://groups.msn.com/WitchsCoven/general.msnw) or some similar group for those who wish to explore and learn about Wicca.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I, too, am looking for a mentor online.  Not for parental issues but location.  The nearest coven I have found is several states away, and I would seriously be shocked to find another Wiccan any closer than 100 miles away!  I really need help...where to start, what to do, how to start a ritual.  I've begun my practice, but I've been winging it.  I don't even know if I'm doing things correctly.  I'm strictly working on instinct.  Help, please!?!?!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

looking October 08, 2005 2:46 PM

I'm looking for a mentor but parental permission would be impossible. My familys Strict Christian that wuld disown me if they even THOUGH i was pagan. I want an online mentor or someone near me that i could meet once a month somewhere like the mall or a skating rink (parents wont let me go anywhere else plus there IS nowhere else to go) discreetly and talk. i would be willing to take pictures of compleated assignments or do them on the computer if possible and send the files to the person. i know no other pagan teens except Shennin and he is still a learner. And if anyone has website for Teens like me in hiding please send them to me!! It would be GREATLY apprecheated. (sorry typo)  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Mindfulness Meditation September 15, 2005 11:31 AM

Blessings, In an earlier post you brought up the topic of how very important learning meditation is to the practice and I agree that it is one of the most important aspects.  The following is an excerpt from a post that I did on a yahoo group that I moderate, so please forgive the fact that it is addressed primarily to womyn and kitchen witches; but that is the focus of the group.  What I am trying to do with this post is to give an example of a mindfulness meditation.  Your Sister in Love -Donna (aka - kirin)

Blessings,
In most every book you purchase on Kitchen Witchery, the first
thing that is suggested is "Clean your work area". What kind of
magick is that? Yuck!! Oh, no, dear womyn, it is a joy to clean
for the Goddess. If it is not, then we need to change our attitudes
so it becomes a joy.
By cleaning I don't mean the get down on your hands and knees,
haul out the ladder to do the ceilings, and strip everything off
your walls cleaning (whew, we can breathe a little better now!) Do
as much as you, as the Goddess you are, are comfortable with. An
uncluttered home is magick (Goddess knows it takes real magick to
get our children and significant others to pick up after
themselves!); it gives you a sense of accomplishment and serenity to
look around and see what you have done.
I am going to begin this week by "Mindful Cleaning".
Mindfulness is really getting into whatever you are doing, realizing
how the tasks are getting completed, and expressing gratitude for a
job well done.
EXAMPLE: CLEANING THE KITCHEN COUNTER
- Get out cleaning tools (clean cloth, water, and cleaner of your
choice)
- Light a candle and vocalize a prayer to your Goddess (I mostly
summon Hestia, Vesta, or Willendorf) Give thanks that you have all
you need
- Begin cleaing the counter with thoughts of what soiled it (the
realization that you had the flour, spilled Cheerios, tea to make
that stain, etc.) We often think of the mess and not how fortunate
we are to have had the food that caused it.
- Give thanks for the cleaning materials and realize how they are
going to actually work for you
- Begin the task of cleaning the counter. With each swipe of the
cloth, truly look at the difference it has made. As you are
completing this humble task, you will find that it is really not so
humble after all; but a true gift.
- When you have finished cleaning the counter, put all of the
cleaning supplies away, stand back and look at the cleanliness,
realize that this counter is ready to put more bounty on, and give
thanks once more and extinguish your candle.
The above prinicples can be applied to every household task.
When you get into the habit of mindful cleaning, it becomes a
pleasant (okay, almost pleasant) ritual. It will also make you more
aware of the value of cleaning house and elevates it to a very
honorable task (you are not "just" a housewife).
Many blessings, I am off to clean my house (or at least tidy it
up a bit) and do the past week's laundry.

I am new here but I agree July 08, 2005 11:46 PM

Ravenstar and Kim ,

Very well said,  I have known I was different most of my life, and listening to nature for me has been the most important. I got lucky to live in the country for awhile. So that taught me alot, plus listening to your gut is also very important as well. Karma kickback is something when you don't pay attention to what you are doing.

HOORAY May 16, 2005 9:54 AM

I am approached often with this issue, and almost exactly tell them what Raven Star has said here.

I have been aware since I was around 9 and found it hard to be alone in that knowledge. Now that I have children and have raised them to follow their own paths, I am amazed at what reading material is out there and the life and embracing the world from this persepctive is sorely lacking.

I agree Raven Star! If I see one more Ravenwolf book I will scream it is so much more then this spells and crazy info that seems to spewing out at our children and new comers who are desperate for understanding and guidance.

Absolutly take the time to get quiet and listen to the world and she will speak and guide.

Become aware and listen to the ladies as they move through your heart. The Gods will also speak if sought.

I also suggested to my girls to jhournal their thoughts and impressions when awakened at night or if they felt something, jot it down and look at it later. But pay attention, is vital is learning and becoming.

Thank you for this wonderful insight to the community.

Brightest Blessings upon all this magical and wonderous day!

Mentors May 10, 2005 12:07 PM

hmmm.... well I find that the universe brings people into my life when I need them and I've learned to trust that. I never had a "mentor" per se..I've had a lot of teachers though. I think for one who is interested in studying under someone the safest way to go would be to join a study circle under a coven. That way you get the combined knowledge of the coven and get to study with like-minded people. I would beware of anyone advertising to take on apprentices...I just don't think a serious witch would work that way...and there are those who prey among young seekers..watch your back and you wallet..the Goddess's knowledge is not for sale (except maybe to cover study materials) I look to nature first and foremost. Meeting other pagans at Pagan Pride Days and Festivals is another good way to meet people...find someone whom you respect and lives her chosen path. Try witchvox.com the absolute best resource for pagans on the web and I may get blasted for this but it is my opinion that there is no one who has "secrets" they can give you..all the knowledge is out there...some know some stuff and some know other stuff and you will know what's right for you in your gut. It's like spells on the web...fine for a outline, but you have to make it your own. Magick is not like Reiki that is passed from one person to another; it is inherent in everyone and in all of nature..witches just learn to work with and shape that energy and live their lives to it's rhythyms. I must add here that although the Great Goddess is important to me I do not "ask" for favors (other than wisdom and strength and blessings) My personal practice is owning and using my own power. There are others who practice more of what is called Ceremonial Magick, which is more supplication than invocation. Educate yourself before all else and the path will unfold naturally. Blessings!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

mentorship May 10, 2005 7:46 AM

Hi Altariel and all! blessings on this beautiful day! I noticed that on the welcome topic there were quite a few people looking for instruction or mentorship. I feel a need to at least express my opinion on this topic, as a practicing witch. First there are a lot of really cheesy books out there, especially for teens and newcomers..they have some good info but I find tend to the dramatic. If I see another copy of "Teen Witch" I will scream. Find some older books..paganism and witcraft has a serious background in herbology, astrology, the Kabbala, numerology, and many other very old practices.. Taking on an apprentice is a huge thing...and I personally won't do more than suggest reading material for anyone under 18, unless I have their parents permission. It's a legal and moral thing. I think the main problem is that paganism is so much more than spells and such...and for the newcomers, especially the younger ones, the sensationalism and inherent power in magick is very attractive. But as I said there is so much more. I've been studying witchcraft and related topics for over 25 years and I've barely scratched the surface. So..that leads me to advice for those new on the path..if I may be so bold: Spend oodles of time in nature..talk to the trees and try to be still enough to observe the animals..they will speak to you. Read, read, read..find all you can about mythology, legends and the background of the belief system that attracts you. Observe the sun, the moon and the stars and seasons..all the time..after a while you will find your life falling in rhythym with it. Get a good table of correspondences Trust your instincts...always Learn to meditate...this is THE essential ingredient in any magickal process and to your own development. Keep a journal of these practices. Learn Rune alphabet if you need to keep it personal. Ask for a teacher in meditation...the universe provides what we need, when we need it. and finally...remember that the universe is a big circle...what you put out..emotionally, physically, intentionally..will return, as surely as a boomerang...witchcraft is mostly about personal responsibility. One last thing...remember that you are maybe the only pagan some people will ever meet... May the Lady bless you with all knowledge and love! Ravenstar  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
