Distance Healing/Healing without permission January 14, 2005 11:39 AM

The tsunami tragedy has gotten me thinking and I would like to hear your viewpoints on the following questions: 1) Besides reiki, what other energy healing methods incorporate distance healing? More to the point, what are your feelings on distance healing (if an example is necessary, please include it)? 2) Do you always need to get permission to give or send healing? Well, as for giving it hands on, to me the answer is "of course", but what about sending healing? To specific people? To general groups (as in the tsunami victims and their loved ones)? Thanks for any input. My own thoughts are a bit jumbled at the moment - when I have time to think and sort, I will post my own answers. Peace - Amy K.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hello January 14, 2005 4:20 PM

This event, and others has had me busy with some distance healing also lately. I mostly use crystals, I cleanse them and then request respectfully that they dedicate their energies toward supporting/healing/helping this person or group of people. Just simple quartz is fine for this purpose, but you can get fancier and more specific by using, for example, a rose quartz with heart healing issues, or malachite or green tourmaline for physical healing issues. As for permission, you can always state that you wish your intentions to be for the highest good of all people everywhere, then the energy will go where it's needed and *wanted*. This is important because not everyone is ready to be healed at the same time, sometimes a person will be actually processing the healing of another event that they were not able to deal with at the time it happened. A healing altar for the survivors of the tsunami would be a fine thing, simply because the scope of devastation is so massive. Good intentions travel far, and they always arrive at their proper destination Love, Jill  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I always ask permission of the individual or group and also of the Divine to do healing. Sometimes I ask in person, but usually I ask in the spirit realm. I clear and ground myself, then go to a quiet place and ask the Divine if it is appropriate for me to send healing. I then ask the individual or group. It's important to be in a clear and quiet space before I do this, as I don't want ego to respond. Sometimes, I get a "No" - in this case, I say a small prayer and let it go. If I get a "Yes", I proceed as intuition directs. If you're not sure or uncomfortable a prayer stick or an altar are good choices. Namaste, Sune  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I would say yes January 27, 2005 3:40 PM

The way i do it is i add at the end of my request for healing, As long as it is for their highest good. Before visualizing the person, area or whatever. I was told that if we don't get permission we could end up with the people's karma and that is one that i definitly don't want! Vero  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

End up with the person's karma? January 30, 2005 12:58 PM

Vero, were you told "why" or "how" you would end up with the person's karma if you don't ask permission to heal first? Has anyone else heard this? I am intrigued! Amy K.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Every one here has a path to walk. People who have AIDS have heavy duty past lives issue to work on. So it isn't our job to take that away from them because they won't walk their path. That was what i was told from my teachers. And not knowing if it is true or not, i am not taking a chance on that one. My life can get pretty complicated at times without someone elses karma. peace Vero  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I don't believe that by sending healing we are taking away someone's experience. We are merely sending support for them wherever they are on their path. I never send healing with a particular outcome (ex. curing of an illness) in mind. I let Spirit decide what kind of healing is appropriate and needed. The healing is not always a cure or solution to the situation. Sometimes the needed healing is just for comfort and strength as the individual walks his/her path. I also don't believe that any of us can know if a person is walking his/her path or not. We do not ever have all of the info about a person or situation. We must honor each other and honor each other's path, wherever he/she may be on it. That's why it is so important to leave the healing up to Spirit. Spirit is privy to all the info and knows what is needed. We have only to send healing, as someone said earlier, for the highest good. We can do that without judgement or speculation no matter what the situation is. Namaste, Sune  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

One more thought - if we do not invest ourselves in expectations or results, we will not pick up anyone else's karma or debris. We will be clear channels for all density to pass through. As clear channels, we do not hold anything that is not ours.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Spiritual Healing February 08, 2005 8:48 PM

Hello Great topic! I am new to the group. Just wanted to say that Modern Spiritualism is another tradition that uses distance or absence healing. It is similar to sending out a prayer for someone who we know needs healing. We cannot say what that healing should encompass or what the outcome of healing should be, but we can send our love and care to others through sharing healing energy in a way that is not invasive to the individual. It is when we decide that we know best what the healing should include and what the outcome should be that we are intruding on the spiritual, mental and physical path of another. We do not have permission to do this. It is how we use our thoughts and send the healing energy that is important. Modern Spiritualism teaches that thoughts are concrete things and that as we send out so we shall receive back--like to like. If we send out thoughts and healing that is based on genuine care for others without assuming to know what is best for them then we are able to use distance/absence healing in a way that is not intrusive to another's spiritual path. Just my thought as I reflect upon the topic questions above... Catherine  [ send green star]

I think bottom line is the intent that count. Each teacher teaches the way it works for them and us as student we do what feels right to us. There is no right or wrong only the intent truly matters i think. peace Vero  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I said in the first post that when I had time to think and sort my thoughts, I would post them. But, my thoughts were leaning towards "send with pure intentions; the healing will go where it is wanted" and I think those of you who have posted have said as much (and more!). And, you have said it much more eloquently than I probably would have. Smiles - Amy PS Do you have any more info (websites, books) on Modern Spirituality?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Modern Spiritualism Book List February 15, 2005 11:03 AM

Hi Amy: Here is the book list I put together for you. You can get many of the books online second hand. I like www.abebooks.com . Happy reading. If you have trouble getting any of the books you are interested in just let me know. I do have contacts here. Andrews How to Develop & Use Psychic Touch Psychic Touch (Psychometry) is one of the easiest abilities to develop because it is rooted in one of our most primal senses. Barbanell This Is Spiritualism Containing some of the most remarkable spirit photographs ever published, this is a book of the widest appeal. The confirmed Spiritualist, sharing the author’s conviction in the supernormal, will read these pages avidly, being temped, perhaps, to match the author’s psychic experiences to his own. To the layman knowing little or nothing of Spiritualism, the book will come as a revelation of thought-provoking ideas that sometimes challenge explanation. To the sceptic, this book will provide a clearer understanding of other’s faith in Spiritualism and the reasons why so many accept it. Beard Survival of Death An impartial, honest discussion on the evidence for and against the human survival of death. Boddington The University of Spiritualism He (Boddington) regards this book as the crown of his life works, is a comprehensive study of Spiritualism in all its manifold aspects. The author was one of London’s pioneer Spiritualists. He devoted practically all his time to writing and lecturing on Spiritualism and became one of its most knowledgeable exponents. Borgia Life in the World Unseen In the pages of this book, you will learn many of the intricacies of spirit life and the joys that come to a person in that sphere of living. You will see just what the spirit world looks like, where it is, and how the forces of good and evil are interrelated. You will find out the rewards that are to be received in direct proportion to the life that is lived. You will find out the spiritual characteristics of such things as flowers, soil, buildings, people, water and even air. You will be amazed at the things of importance and the things that have no importance at all. More about Life in the World Unseen In this, second book, Robert continues his work in the Spirit World and gives a description of he and Ruth’s work among the newly arrived in his realm. He gives a description of meeting the great composers and men who are extremely advanced in the parts of medicine and horticulture and explains how that work is related to those on the earth. Here and Hereafter This third book in the series is different from the other two. Here, Robert no longer takes you on a tour of the Spirit World, but now begins to lay out the laws of Spirit life and what makes things the way they are there. He expounds on the physical characteristics of spirits and their limitations as well as their great abilities. Braude Radical Spirits Radical Spirits is a landmark in the history of women’s political activism and in the history of women and religion in America. Ann Braude proposes that the engagement of women in the Spiritualist movement not only provided a religious alternative to male-dominated mainstream religions, but also gave women a social and political voice. For some women, Spiritualism and the early woman’s rights movement went hand in hand. A great read… Burroughs Becoming a Spiritualist A book for beginners. Sets forth some of the teachings leading to the advancement of the individual. Our number one seller. Not that I expect that you are converting but it is an interesting little book that helped me. Carroll Spiritualism in Antebellum America (Hard cover) During the decade before the Civil War, a growing number of Americans gathered around tables in dimly lit rooms, joined hands, and sought enlightening contact with spirits. This was the birth of Spiritualism, a distinct and colourful religious ideology centered on spirit communication and spirit activity. In this study, Spiritualism emerges as a reflection of and a reaction to many currents in antebellum American life. A bit pricy but worth it  [ send green star]

Modern Spiritualism Book List February 15, 2005 11:06 AM

***Edwards, H. A Guide for the Development of Mediumship An interesting spin off from his book Life in Spirit was the section that dealt with the question on how to develop mediumship. He covers the whole range of mediumistic faculties, giving guidance and encouragement to those who wish to develop their mediumistic potential. Topics covered are trance, spirit guidance, attunement, clairvoyance, clairaudience, transfiguration, automatic writing, Psychometry, early development and spiritual healing. A Guide to the Understanding & Practice Of Spiritual Healing Step by step progression from initial desire to more advanced use of energies and thought influences for the healing of mind, body, and soul. This book has been combined from A Guide to Spirit Healing, and A Guide to the Development of Mediumship also by Edwards and out of print. The Healing Intelligence This book explains how the healing processes operate and the postulates which govern them. It shows how we can more closely co-operate with the healing purpose by fully employing the different intelligence systems we possess. Life in Spirit Harry Edwards paused in his busy life to contemplate what the spirit world might really be like. The result of these deliberations is all here in fascinating and intricate detail as he describes various facets of spirit life as he envisages it. Mediumship of Jack The descriptive chapters and the accompanying full-page art plates illustrating the physical phenomena obtained through Jack Webber’s mediumship comprise one of the most outstanding psychic books ever published. Power of Spiritual Healing This book is not so much a scientific appreciation of Spiritual healing as an effort to present the healing story in a simple way, to enable everyone to have a measure of understanding of its powers, limitations, processes and purpose and to show how all that are in need can benefit from it. Spirit Healing *** Any of these Edwards books are a must read… not sure which ones are still in print… but I am sure you can get many online second hand. +++Findlay, A. Looking Back AI was born on the 16th May 1883 at one o’clock in the morning. This happened without my being aware of the fact and moreover, my consent was not asked beforehand. So begins Arthur Findlay-one of Spiritualism’s most famed writers-in this autobiography. The Curse of Ignorance Vol. I This volume starts from the time of primitive man to the Reformation. Covering the oldest civilizations, Hebrew, Greek, Roman, Moslem, Chinese and Christian. If everyone everywhere, would learn the lesson these pages have to teach, war suffering, poverty and human misery would cease. Findlay took 7 years and 6 days/week every day to produce this volume. A labour of love. The Curse of Ignorance Vol. II This volume continues covering Christian and Democratic Civilizations from the Reformation to the end of the second World War. This book clarifies the many difficulties with which historians have been faced with in the past concerning religious prejudice, falsified history and represented the Christian era in a much too favourable light. Historians have misrepresented or ignored events they were unable to understand. On the Edge of Etheric First published in 1931 this book has run almost 70 editions. Based upon the mediumship of John Sloan. Subtitled "Survival After Death Scientifically Explained@, this volume supplies the key to the mystery of what awaits us all after physical death. Psychic Stream Gives a wide ranging look into Christianity, covering its ancestors, relations, parents, conception, birth, childhood, youth and its manhood. Generates an understanding of the reason for present-day religious beliefs. Rock of Truth The second book in Arthur Findlay’s famous trilogy (On The Edge of Etheric being the first and The Unfolding Universe the third), which investigates the origin of the Christian faith. The Torch of Knowledge A story about the twentieth century and the changes that will take place as a result of increased knowledge. The Unfolding Universe The evolution of mans conception of his place in nature. Completes the trilogy, the two previous books being@ On the Edge of Etheric and The Rock of Truth@ provides a new foundation for the building of Spiritualism in harmony with the latest scientific knowledge and philosophy. The Way of Life A guide to the Etheric world giving 419 extracts from the verbatim records of sittings with John Campbell Sloan, the famous Glasgow Direct Voice Medium. Where Two Worlds Meet The Verbatim record of a series of Nineteen séances with John Campbell Sloan, the famous Glasgow Direct Voice Medium. +++ As with the H. Edwards books these books by Findlay are a must read… again not sure what is still in print but you can get many of them online second hand I am sure… Harris, E Spiritualism, A Way of Life Newly reprinted. Through a collection of writings, this book portrays a practical enjoyable way to live. A light read but I knew the author personally and like her style. McMullin, Stan Anatomy of a Séance: A History of Spirit Communication in Central Canada The first serious study of Spiritualism in Canada. A book I waited for for ten years. WOW Thanks, Catherine! February 22, 2005 9:05 AM

(Or is it Cat, as you sign your posts?) What a lot of resources. One of the few things I love more than a book list is the chance to go out and buy books! I really appreciate the time you put into those posts. I know I will get so much out of them as time goes by; I hope others will, too. Thanks, also, for the heads up on the spiritualism groups. I am always eager to learn more and really think that spiritualism goes hand in hand with hands-on and energy healing. You are great! Amy  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Both Cat and Catherine are fine... :-) February 22, 2005 9:30 AM

Glad to be of help to you. Really no problem at all... Is the same as was done for me at one time by others who were more experienced than myself. So now I help others where I can. Enjoy the books and the groups! Cat  [ send green star]

If You can spare the Energy THEN SENT IT! March 11, 2005 1:18 AM

For years groups of people have gotten up at the same time around the world and either prayed or meditated (usually depending on the faith).  One group (can't remember at present) always gets up at before dawn 5:30 and starts at 6am and on each particular week/day was for something, world peace, healing, etc., don't know where those booklets are.

Oprah requested that everyone pray for a little boy whose hole in his head would not heal, it was quite big and therefore would not close, he was very small & young so his skull was still very soft (guess no metal plates at that age or whatever they use these days).  Well the power of prayer from her audience around the world no matter what time almost closed that hole, it became very small very fast.

If it is something GOOD that you are sending out WHERE CAN BE THE HARM?  We/I need more of us this, we all do.

Truth, Light, Love

I agree regarding asking on the spirit level if your intended work is appropriate. I used to belong to a Reiki healing circle and sometimes even if they asked for it, the Black Dragon would fold his arms and shake his head in a negative way to let me know, "hands off!" I listen. I don't need to know why. Harm can be done by well meaning healers who go in and remove stuff without knowing what it is. One young man I heard of, had a relapse, because a healer saw "icky black stuff" and removed it, not realizing it was his medication! So....caution is always in order. But, this said, I consider Love to be a form of healing and I think it is always appropriate to send Love. Blessings, Orea  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Thanks for the book suggestions and other thoughts... April 04, 2005 8:34 PM

Book suggestions re healing are within this topic I think.

As for being careful with healing I agree.  I do not do any healing myself. My guides do it and I just let them work through me. I have to let go of any vested interest I might have in the outcome of the healing and trust that my guides will know and do what is best for the seeker.

Spiritual Healing is a practice where the healer, sitter and spirit work together towards healing.  It is not up to me as the "Healer" to do anything to or for the sitter other than to give my love and energy.

Love is healing and healing is the first and most important gift of the spirit.

Catherine
