Kum Nye-Holistic Healing July 26, 2004 4:50 PM

What is Kum Nye? Kum Nye, (pronounced Koom Nyay) is a holistic healing system, promoting emotional and physical wellbeing. Stress, anxiety and over stimulation, mentally as well as physically, have become such a feature of daily activity that we are often too tense and charged up to relax and enjoy life. The relaxation of Kum Nye exercises is more vital and lasting than the feeling of wellbeing experienced during ordinary physical exercise, as it leads to the integration of body and mind in all activities. When we learn to open the senses and touch our feelings directly, our bodies and minds make full contact. Experience becomes richer, healthier and more fulfilling. As we become deeply acquainted with ourselves, growing in self-understanding, we are also able to share more fully with others. The Kum Nye exercise techniques have three levels. Sitting exercises and breathing techniques help become aware of feelings that are often ignored, thereby connecting us with the vitality of the energy centers or chakras. Self-massage techniques and movement exercises stimulate subtle energies believed to permeate the whole being, integrating our physical and mental self. Stretching exercises induce a profound sense of relaxation on all levels - physical, mental, emotional, energetic or spiritual levels. The exercises are based on theories of the gross and subtle energy systems of the body, which underscore Tibetan medicine and the body-mind disciplines of Buddhism. Kum Nye is part of the lineage of medical and spiritual theories and practices that links Tibetan with Indian and Chinese medicine. This lineage has given rise to many disciplines, such as yoga and acupuncture, and forms the roots of many of the more recent body-mind disciplines.
