I'm third generation Norwegian born in the U.S.  My grandfather immigrated from Norwegian and became a Lutheran minister in Bellingham, WA but he died before I was born.  I ran into a couple in our church in CA that knew him before he died and knew the story.  My family always had lutefisk and lefse for Christmas...and I still attempt to make lefse.  My family likes it hot.  I understand I still have relatives in Norway but since both my parents are dead I don't know where.  The family name was Ordal but I'm not sure how it was spelled in Norwegian.  We all learned to say Munga Tusan Tuck (sorry for butchering the spelling) after dinner.  Hugs to new friends.

Aloha, Dagmar!

Thanks for the kind invitation!  So, what is Värmland like?  Have you been there before?  How familiar are you with the area?  I'd love to hear what your impressions are.

My Internet access will be somewhat limited, but I'll be checking back from time to time.  Hope all's going well!

Take care,

xochi
thank you, Janice and Xochi for showing up here

Värmland is lakes and woods as far as your eye can reach and beyond ...I simply love it , and and as it is close to the norwegian border i love it even more...as i originally wanted to move to Norway but had to decide differently as we would not be able to pay our living over there for the beginning ...it is so much more expensive in all.
I am happy to see people come in here ...
love to all,

Hello Dagmar sorry for my lateness.  Thanx for the invite I am happy to be here and I am pleased to hear that you love Sweden - where you are sounds so beautiful and serene.  I have only even been to Australia and Rarotonga I have never been to Europe.  But I am moving next year to Australia, Melbourne my youngest son lives there with my daughter-in-law and my two grandsons - and I am looking forward to that - it is a big move for a 67 yr old but it will be like a great big adventure.  Which I guess is what you are experiencing now.

Thanx again for the invite Dagmar and I wish you happiness and peace in your new home.

Love, Light & Blessings. jos

Greetings to you all here! I look forward to learning a lot through this Group.
Thank you Dagmar for the invite..

I live in Aotearoa, New Zealand. I identify with my Maori ancestry, but am quite a mix. My Great-grandfather  came to NZ from Ireland. He fell for the charms of a Maori maiden, lol, and they had a large family of 13 children including my grandfather. My grandmother's family arrived from Poland at the end of WWI, she was born and raised in New Zealand. This is mum's side of the family.
On my Dad's side, Our great-great-great Grandfather was the first Mormon Missionary from the USA, to arrive in NZ. He also fell for the charms of a Maori maiden, and the rest is history.
So, our family is a blend of Maori, Irish, Polish, and US(?).
Its a great mix!! And thats me....

Seems like Maori maidens got some unique charms.

Dagmar, thanks for the invitation.  I look forward to reading about people in your countries, Sweden and Norway.  I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and originally many years ago came from South Africa.  I like living here, it is a pleasant city and known as one of the most ethnically diverse there is.  I am fond of smorgasbord when I get this chance!

Hello,
Thank you Dagmar for the invitation to this group. I am always interested in learning about new places, cultures ect...
I am an American as you know. I have never been out of my own country, not even to Canada which is right next door. Unless a rich Uncle leaves me a lot of money or I win a lottery,I probably won't be venturing any farther than my own country. And there is so much of my own country that I have yet to see.
I do look forward to learning more from this group.

Hello all. I am happy to be here and happy to be here with you.

Though not Scandinavian, I know that we are similar. We all search for the land of the free and the clean of the Earth. We all love the same skies and share the same water. And our menaces are the same. The imaginary lines on the ground that are said to divide us serve as smokescreens and make us forget and ignore our deep nature.

So with all that I have
And all that I know
Together
Like we were before
As One People
One Life
One God
Under One sky
On One Earth
In One Universe
Bound into eternity.

Peace to All.

....though I had a great time in US , flying in to Stockholm and seeing the wonderland country from above , the hills, the woods and the fog was like coming home ....and YES Sweden has become home to me in this last year while my partner and I settled in Vaermland.

I think we are very fortunate and lucky that not many people like to live in cold areas , other Scandinavia would be overcrowded I guess

Well, I have to say that even though I sometimes miss the sun I don't think I could live without the cold and frosty winters and the foggy autumns that we have here!

Hi, my name is Ginnie.  Although I live in South Carolina USA, I am looking forward to this group.  Thank you Dagmar for inviting me.  My ex brother-in-law has traveled extensively and has lived in Norway for a year.  He is back now, his current wife wanted to be closer to her kids.  But she is originally from Norway.  If he could have he would have stayed.  He loved it.

Back in my younger years Dick and I hosted a couple of Norweigan guys in their early 20's at our farm.  They were traveling the US from coast to coast and working their way along.  They stayed with us three weeks the first time and two weeks the second time and put in fencing for our pasture.  Loved those Norwiegan pancakes they made.  They were a whole lot of fun.  One of them is an actor now and doing quite well.  We enjoy seeing him on the screen.

I've heard so much about Norway, I'd love to visit.

Greetings from San Francisco, CA, USA!
Hello Dagmar and All Members,
I am grateful for the invitation to be here.
I am first generation Finn, born in Oakland, CA, USA
Father's last name was William Theodore Lindblad. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone when it was under US control, back in 1917.... his mother (don't know her name) and father (Theodore Lindblad) were there on a Finnish ship .... My grandfather was in the Finnish Navy.
I know I have relatives in Finland because my father had two sisters, one was called Alice and they married. I might have cousins, nieces or nephews. I'd be interest in any information on Finland and the Lindblad family ... will be reading daily and posting when I come across info.
Thank you,
Corinne D.
