Some of the issues I will be addressing in this group October 17, 2007 3:19 AM

Here are some of the concerns that I plan to post about as group host. This is just the issues that come immediately to my mind. Many other issues can be discussed on this group as well.

I am concerned about what appears to me to be ethnic cleansing in the city of New Orleans, where homes in the Lower 9th Ward are still being bulldozed without the owners' permission, while richer, whiter neighborhoods are rebuilding

I am concerned about a decline in rights for the disabled, as was evidenced in my previous home town, where several cities agreed together that they would no longer accomodate people with disabilities and would band together to fight accomodation.

I am concerned about homeless peoples' rights to sleep, shelter, and to have a body that is planted on planet earth without being threatened with arrest for trespassing when they have no home to go to, as well as people's rights to give food to the homeless

I am concerned about American Muslim's right to peacefully practice their religion without being thrown off of flights by Swat teams or banned from flights by airline companies

I am concerned about the right of cities to display both nativity scenes and giant menorahs, as well as other religious holiday symbols from different religions

I am concerned about the right of families to stay together with or without citizenship and other documents. A man needs his wife. A woman needs her husband. And children need their parents. Families should never be forcefully separated, even if there are immigrantion status issues. Children should never be left alone while their parents are deported.

I am concerned about ICE raids that round up both illegal and LEGAL immigrants and lock them in detention centers with bad food, little water, no phone calls, no legal representation, and many human rights blatantly denied them

I am concerned about adoption rights, wherein adoptions are denied based on non-matching races. Race is no different than eye color, hair color, and similar hereditary traits. No race should be forbidden to adopt a different race any more than brown eyed parents should be denied adoption of a blue eyed child.

I am concerned about the right of a soldier to be a consciencious objector, which is systematically being denied, even to those soldiers who discover that they are totally against killing for any reason whatever, whose consciences say "Thou shalt not kill."

I am concerned about the right of every human being to be able to live where his basic needs are met for food, shelter, medical care, and freedom from fear, even if that nation is not their own

I am concerned about every activists right to peaceful protest on any issue they feel strongly about, without being trailed and reported on or being kept off airlines, or any other form of harrassment or violations of their basic human rights just for standing up for a cause that they believe in.

These are issues that I really care about too. A lot of groups I host here revolve around issues like this.
