You are very good. I cannot paint people. That isn't my talent. I do paint but it is abstract feelings, moods, seeing it through a different visual concept. I just love it because I like to see people's reactions to my feelings. It is almost like a cleansing of my soul at times of the world we live in. I sold 2 to my friends in Florida when I lived there. I have not painted since I moved to the North. I get my art supplies from Dick Blick studios'. I need to get back into it though. I am restoring a 1905 Victorian home right now and it has kept me and my family very busy these last 3 years. It never ends...Jaylena
An Art Fair Coming Up, Jaylena

I do my work to escape and for the enjoyment. There's an art fair coming up this Spring in Minneapolis, Minnesota and I'm going to try and sell most of my paintings. There's some paintings I won't sell, like the painting of my mother when she was a little girl. I got a little money in the Navy for drawing sketches of my shipmates girlfriends or wives but I've never really sold any paintings, yet.

I started this painting on January 6, 1979 and it's an acrylic painting done on a Canvasette. I gave this painting to my sister, Jeanette Deschene, because she said she liked it. The "model" for this painting was a photo in a gardening magazine and I added the cloud later.

Being in the Navy, I always wanted to become a Navy Seal but I didn't think I could make it through the training so I just went in the regular Navy. I'm very interested in Navy Seals and started reading the book, "Lone Survivor". As the model for this painting, I used another library book about Special Forces.

This is my painting of a helicopter. I liked the photo of the helicopter that I used as the model so much that I added the caption, "I Think I'm In Love!" to the painting. I repainted the sky (over the rotor blades and then lost the photo so I had to leave the rotor blades out of the painting.

This is my unfinished painting of my friend, Linda Christine Miller, done from real life in my living room here in my apartment. Linda wouldn't sit still very long and I don't know if I'll ever get her to sit for this painting again.

This is another acrylic painting that I just started. The model is a photo that I took of my friends parents. My friend and I went out to a restaurant with her parents and I took this photo outside of the restaurant located in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I just started this painting of an old Tanzanian fisherman not long ago. I started emailing a Christian man that lives in a small village in Tanzania, Africa and he sent me an email of a photo of an old fisherman and I used the photo as the model for this painting. Lately, I haven't had the time to work on this painting.

My model for this painting was a girl I had a crush on, Cathy Gleason. I did this painting at a place called "The Rose Gardens" near Lake Harriet here in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the spring. Cathy wouldn't sit for me long enough to make it look like her. I added the flower in her hair and the big gold box in the background later.

...I think Gary your paintings are coming from the deep of your soul, from your heart. I'm sorry that I'm not talented in painting - it's wonderful to put your feelings, your heart, your soul just onto the paper in different colours.
Love, Krystyna.

The Lamp

We don't own the lamp that was in the center of that painting but I think it's at my sister's house in the basement somewhere. My mother and I only lived in that apartment for a short while, while my mother looked for a house for us to live in. I remember taking my clothes to the laundrymat very early in the morning to do our laundry while we were living in that apartment. It was actually the top floor of a duplex.
