My "Pecker" Is Still Going Strong!

This Hibotan cactus that I bought from the neighborhood drug store is still going strong! I water it around once a month and I'll spray the head every now and then.

All You Need Is a Good Grow Light, Christine
1 year ago

I'm living in Minnesota, Christine.  And it gets mighty cold in the winter here.  Especially in this apartment!  All you need is a good grow light and a spray bottle and give it a little humidity with a dish full of pebbles and some water and you've got yourself a mango plant!

I Will Survive!

My Mango tree that I grew from seed is still surviving and I mist it every day and give it humidity by putting it on a dinner plate with shards of a clay pot and fill the dinner plate with rainwater.

The trick I have with my house plants is to ignore them, water occasionally, let the cat knock them over every so often and lots of  natural light.

That hoya blooms once a year. I'm not sure if it's classified as a succulent... it is a trailing plant though.
A Perfect Hoya!
That's a perfect Hoya, Christine!  Isn't a Hoya a succulent?  I've tried to grow a Hoya before but it was the trailing kind with bigger leaves and I don't think I ever got it to bloom (or did I?).  You don't ever mist a Hoya, do you?  I've never seen a Hoya that perfect, Christine!

Happy Birthday, Jake Geldreich!
Who cares about horticulture when Jake Geldreich just turned ten years old!  When Cat Geldreich's bigger brother turned ten, it shook the world!  It made the Today show and Oprah was going to showcase the birthday party that was thrown by Donald Trump for Jake!  It doesn't get any bigger than this, folks!

There's one blemished leaf but all in all this mango tree that I grew from seed is still growing very well and I haven't repotted it yet.
Gary Pompieri's Large Peanut Cactus

I started this peanut cactus from a tiny peanut cactus offshoot and I've had this plant for several years.  It's never flowered and I think it would be great to get a flower on it!

Gary Pompieri's Pothos #3 Plant

This is my "pothos #3 plant".  I have two other pothos plants but this one is doing best.  I keep it on my air conditioner and I cut it back in autumn and winter and in the spring and summer, it trails down to the floor.

This Mimosa plant was grown from seed.  I soaked the seed in nearly boiling water for 16 minutes and then, I planted it in regular potting soil.  This plant doesn't last long but it has beautiful pink, puffy flowers.  I saw a real Mimosa plant in the Phillipines when I was in the Navy back in '72.

This is one of my two Rabbit's Foot ferns.  The other is almost identical.  This Rabbit's Foot fern I started from three Rabbit's "feet".  I'm just starting to mist this plant to make it grow better.

Hey! What happened to my Hibotan Cactus. I think my Grandpa used to call woodpeckers "peckers". I'll try to get a new photo of my Hibotan cactus here and see if it doesn't look like a pecker to you!

Gary Pompieri's Hibotan Cactus

I'm taking care of this Hibotan cactus for a friend and I don't think she cares about it anymore.  I've had it for around a month and it's doing good under my grow light.  Remind you of anything, girls?

Gary Pompieri's Mango Tree Grown from SeedThis mango tree was grown by me from seed. After sharing the mango with a friend, I scrubbed the seed with a vegetable brush and just stuck it in regular potting soil and within a few days, it sprouted. I'm growing it under a large grow light. I used this light to grow marijuana around 20 years ago.
