Well Storm on the way I hurt![]()
Pretty violets that my mom had blooming when I visited her way back at Easter.

Spring time photo of a group of fern fronds.

yup, that picture was taken by me and my fancy camera!
Here's my 2nd place wild life entry at our local Exhibition!! I printed it in b&w and it looked really sharp!

A Tree swallow that lives in my back yard.

Summer is almost here so I can start clicking away with my camera! Here's one of my favorite plant pictures so far this year:

I wish I could afford lessons, Christine! But I say, "Screw the teacher!". Just paint what you see! And if the teacher gives you any crap, just tell him that I'll have him taken care of. He might find himself floating in the East River! (and nobody will ever know!)
Gary
Gary, the stuff I'm learning in my class is stuff that you probably already know from your painting experience. Basically what my teacher is teaching is colour values for example, making black then adding a bit of white to get a lighter colour and keep doing that til you get to white. She said that every great painting has about 6 different values in it. She also got us to play with our colours and make charts so we know what each colour looks like mixed with another. then see what happens when we add white. another class was lesson in perspective which I haven't grasped full yet...
for free classes in painting you can go to about.com they have a whole section on painting tips with stills and video lessons.
Don't paint the flower on the divided paper. Just sketch it and then cut it apart and then sketch each part onto a separate canvas and there you are! You're getting way over my head with the stuff you're talking about in your painting class. I suppose I should take a painting class. If I could afford it! Well, keep at it Christine! You're already an artist!
Gary
That sounds like too much work! Painting then paint again?!
My painting class is heading into the home stretch with only 1 more class left. It went super fast! I have 2 paintings that I have started now and need to finish... I am really enjoying it and am finding out things about my self like: I like flowing curves and mellow pastelish colours, so my homework is to learn to paint with darker values and angles in my paintings!
I'd say to take a large sheet of paper and divide it into nine 5X7 rectangles and paint the flower and then, cut out the rectangles and paint each drawing or whatever onto the canvasses. Then, just space them out on the wall. That's a great idea to explode the canvasses!
Gary
Here is a bloom that I want to paint. We are in the process of painting the house and getting rid of things like nick nac shelves so I have a huge wall space to fill with pictures/paintings. My idea is to tape together (on the back ) 9 - 5x7 canvases together and paint this flower on them all as 1 big canvas then take the tape off them and explode it on the wall so each little canvas has a part of the flower. Have you any tips for me doing that?

Whatever you do, don't throw away anything. I threw away paintings that I did and then regretted it later. I'd love to have those paintings back and I've given away a number of paintings and I'd like to see those again. Don't ever throw away a sketch and always date everything. At least you know that there's supposed to be a light shadow. Just wait for the paint to dry and try mixing a little white or yellow and make the shading lighter in that spot next time.
Gary
the thing I'm having trouble with is my brain and my hand aren't listening to each other! I see 1 thing and paint another. I know there is suppose to be a light shadow there but the brush paints it dark... I guess stuff like that is learned. Either that or I need to mix my paint better! lol!
It's a lot of fun, huh, Christine? I found the best rule of thumb to go by was just to paint exactly what you see and nothing more. Don't try to add anything or if you're doing a self-portrait, don't try to make yourself pretty or handsome. Just paint exactly what you see. I painted the scene of a lake here in Minneapolis and it was the first outdoor painting I did. It turned out pretty well because I just painted what I saw.
Gary
So week 2 of my painting class and Gary, you were right I love it! Since we are all beginners she is teaching us the basics of painting - values of colours as well as mixing all the colours together to see what they make, shading etc... We started to paint a landscape til she realized that we were all really beginners as in never picked up a paint brush let alone a drawing pencil!
Starting next week I'm going to be taking an acrylic painting class for 6 weeks! I'm so excited!!
a while back we went to a "paint your own clay" shop where you buy your bisque and paint it how ever you want then come back a few days later to a fired piece... well... here are the before and after of my daughters and my pieces. I did the gecko and my daughter did the flower ( I drew on the shades and smile)

I'm not sure yet... I'm not too handy with watercolours and I wouldn't want to ruin it as I like the way it is turning out. I still have a bit of a way to go before I can finish it. I can never seem to find the time to finish my drawings! It sometimes takes weeks - months before I finish some drawings!
Here is my latest creation - not quite finished yet... It's suppose to be apple blossoms.

I have a few more drawings I just haven't figured out how to post in this new format. When I do I'll post more!
yup, I like to dabble every now and then.... Sometimes I actually get a picture that turns out ok!
Christine, why, I didn't know....you didn't tell me you we into art and doing art too!!! Well, you learn about your new friends here post by post I guess.
Awesome my friend!!
Jacki

This is the first one I ever did. Turned out well!
