Hello all.  Thanks for the invite Soren!  Does anybody have a good plan to end national and world poverty?  What do you think of Jeffrey Sachs(a Reagan man responsible for the economic chaos and mass want in Russia according to the BBC films "The Trap") or Gunnar Myrdal, Swedish socialist Nobel Prize Winner?

Soren, thanks for the invite.  I see a few friends here.....hope I can contribute!!!

Yeah welcome
An easy way to contribute is to test the myC4 website, see in the announcement about how to log in, and then try to put a bid on an opportunity.
Gives a good feel what it's all about And as free as doing the clicks ( though donations to the END POVERTY FUND is of course welcome, and can easily be done with paypal when logged in )
Remember to put a comment who you are

Jeffrey Sachs and the End of Poverty
Just started at Care2 and love this network of like-minded people. Has anyone read Jeffrey Sach's insightful book on how to end poverty? He's a Harvard trained economist working with the United Nations on the concept of the Millenium villages in Africa--whereby he helps implement sustainable economic policies through practical techniques for self-sufficiency.  This man is really amazing and doing incredible work. I studied human rights and economic development at grad school with him before starting laborfair.com and think everyone here might enjoy his insights and remedial approach.

Fabolous - great to see all the ppl getting involved...
and glad you likes the site Amelia... remember you can try out the bidding system with the means we put in the end poverty fund, especially set up for the care2 members of this group.. the money in the fund does no use just sitting on the account, they need to be lend out as working capital in small buisness in Afric, that's where they make a change

Thanks Soren for the invitation.

I am a Family Lawyer from Brasil and living in Australia now.

I ve lived the opposites of poverty and richeness: we need good politicians and new law-makers.

I want a better society for my children.

So let s do something!

all the best,

Many grains make a mountain...

All who lead for the greater good will have followers who become leaders.  Thanks Soren and Robin for inviting me into the group.  I'm also interested in US national/regional food drives, esp. for Native Americans. Clothes, books, household items...whatever I can get from people and truck it to reservations. A delicate cultural area with proper care as a prerequisite, I think assisting the Native Americans is an imperative that remains largely ignored in America.  But under the surface, I think people would like to give a little benevolent "payback" to the people whose lands and lives were taken away violently and without mercy.

As soon as my next check comes in, I'll make a donation to our End Poverty initiative.  Robyn

WOW cool to see you all present yourself here... and I really like what you're saying about the many grains Robyn .. in Denmark we say "many little streams make a river"
Just a reminder that there already are money in the END POVERTY FUND, but as long as they're just sitting on the account they're not doing any good, the system works so we personally go in and place the money, there's no managers of the fund placing them for us... so give it a try, log in as explained in the host announdement, and place 10 My Credits - remember to ad a comment with your name and if you like a statement

Soren, Thanks for the invite. It is an incredible feeling to know we can help. I will look around the posts to get an idea how to do it. I am from Bulgaria (the former socialist camp) and already heard about a Bulgarian gypsy woman who borrowed 20 euro (!!!) from a similar fund when no bank would give her a loan to support her business and that transformed her life. Good luck to this group and its high goal!

I'm from Argentina, female, 49, and I would like to make this a better world for everybody, specially children, elder people, and all those who are the weaker and the forgotten. soren,

We could come up with a proposalwhere we could set up an account and make contribution into it until such a time we are able to contribute and start a project that could be benefiacial to the local community.the beneficiaries could either be here in the US or any other place.

All in all iam happy to be a member .

Thanks

Howdy Hooo and welcome to all, and thanks for all the good will and wise words...
To Samuel, it's an excellent idea, and I'm happy to inform you that we already have an account up and running at MyC4.com, which belongs to this group... Mads donated 200 Euros and I 50 for a start, and it's free for groupmembers to log in and place the money in african buisnesses, thus helping them getting capital for developing and generate prosperity to their communities, at the same time they pay back, with some interest, which increase our fundings for investing even more as paybacks come in... As the Nobel Prize Winner Yunus have proven, smallscale loans to indigenous business works much better than bigscale industral projects as a way to eradicate poverty and as starter for sustainable development of communities.
Read the Host Announcement for details how to use our group account, for those who'll like to add to it, it can be done when logged in....
As the goal is to eradicate poverty before 2015, no funds will be withdrawn before that date... and then it'll be a groupdecision how to further use the funds for doing good

Thanks for the invite Soren!  What a lovely group of people all fighting to end poverty; I am blessed to join.  I am reminded of the story of the starfish where the man is walking down the beach throwing them back into the water one by one and he is told there is too many miles of beach with too many starfish and that it wont make a difference....the man says "It makes a difference to this one"

Here's to making a difference,

We  must  END HUNGER  because,  as long as people are denied the very basic of physical needs (nourishment),  they absolutely  cannot  CARE  about  anything  or  anyone else ~ Other Humans,  Other Animals,  the Planet,  Etc. . . . And  until & unless that happens,  there will  NEVER  be  Peace!!!

Well I see that a number of my Care2 friends are here! Thanks to you Soren if  you invited me - I can't remember. This Christmas season has been sooooooo busy. I just signed up on the C4 site and am anxious to get started. I think it's a wonderful idea. Must be they don't have anyone there on weekends because I'm waiting for my account verification email (none of my email is "censored") and haven't got it yet. Well, when I do, I really look forward to making a visible difference in a way that is not charity, but a business. Win-win for everyone. Happy New Year to all. Together, we can make a big dent in poverty this year.

A billion green stars to you Susan
I've been told MyC4 will look into why you didn't get a reply at once as the "Join" process is 100% automated and within minutes from signing up with your email you get an email to your email adress for verifiation and then funds to invest can be added.

Great that you take the step from talking to walking.

Hello!  Thank you for the invite!  The title of the group reminded me of a talk I heard on http://www.kpfk.org/ years ago.  The speaker was from India and it was just so good.  His premise was that poverty is not the problem.  Extreme wealth is the problem.  America being (in general) a wealthy nation causing a disproportionate amount of the world's waste and pollution.  People in private jets commuting, etc.  It struck home to me because at the time I was working as a nanny for a family in So Cal and the man of the house was the CEO of Waterpik and the excess of this 3 person family was outrageous!!  I was doing my part, too, of course, as the only reason I heard this great talk was because it was on the radio in my car as I commuted 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to their neighborhood everyday.  A drive that on the weekends took 30 minutes.  So, that was an ironic part of my life, sitting in my car burning fossil fuels listening to "green" radio.  Anyway, I work from home now in north Idaho - a world away - but I still listen to green radio.     Peace to all.  I look forward to the discussions and the changes that we can bring about to end proverty.  My main interest, honestly, is poverty here in the states with 40 million of us without health care and 1/3 of the children in this country living below the poverty line it is something that needs to be fixed and fast. Thanks again for the invite.
