Women and Climate Change

This month, MADRE’s Communications Director, Yifat Susskind, and Media Coordinator Diana Duarte, brought MADRE’s message of women’s human rights and global justice to the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali, Indonesia.

The women of our sister organizations in Nicaragua, Sudan, Haiti, Colombia, Kenya, and elsewhere are the ones on the front-lines of the climate change crisis. Their lives and communities are deeply affected by the droughts, floods, and climate disasters, such as hurricanes and cyclones, that are intensifying as temperatures rise. Yet, the perspectives of these women is notably absent from policymaking on climate issues. MADRE was in Bali to challenge this dynamic and to put forward concrete, workable solutions to climate change that can advance human rights.

Check out our “All Eyes on Bali” blog, to see the scandalous workings of policymaking that further endangers those most affected by climate change (Indigenous Peoples and rural women) while lining the pockets of those who caused the problem.
