Take the pledge... January 01, 2005 6:13 AM

Although this is not a contentious group, I thought this was worth passing on...

posted by Shadow Bear Cub:

It all started here - those rules were taught to me by Dena
Johnsick, a Host at Delphi Forums, not in those words, but the
sentiment.

No bashing.
No namecalling.
No offensive language.
No belittling
No ridiculing.
No derogatory remarks
No personal attacks - critize the post, not the poster.

Then Amos, one of my Co-hosts in BAM gave his interpretation of the above:

Respect for each-other.
Consideration for each-other's feelings.
Sensitivity for each-other's background.
Mutual support and understanding.
Honesty is highly appreciated.
Fairness by reacting on the context and not on the person.

Ket, my wife, came up with these 8 suggestions on how to achieve PEACE:

1. Be willing to allow others what you want/expect to get yourself.
2. Remember that most (if not all) disagreements, arguments, quarrels, fights and wars start with misunderstandings.
3. Remember that when two are fighting, neither is innocent.
4. If someone insults you, walk away.
5. Don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff...
6. Try to think about what you would do if you knew you will die tomorrow.
7.
Communicate - share how you feel, and ask questions - in a respectful
and trusting manner - and when there is nothing more to say, talk some
more... It always helps to say "I am sorry".
8. DECIDE NOT TO FIGHT.

I
would like us all to sign our names to them, as a pledge that we are
willing to do our best to conduct our own ways in Groups and Network in
accordance with them.

I can here you - we know this already, don't need them...
if that was true, why then has 2004 been a year full of conflict both in our Groups and in our Networks?

Just copy the below, paste into a message here and sign it.

"I
hearby pledge to do my best to live by and enforce the above stated
Rules of Engagement in my dealings in Groups, as Host, Co-Host or
Member."

We need your help: will you "stand in" for one of the 200,000 people killed, harmed or displaced in Darfur?

By signing the petition you will represent one of Darfur’s victims and voice your objection to the ongoing slaughter in that country. We will present the final list of names to President George Bush and to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The situation in Darfur is getting worse. Just this week, the Sudanese government prevented the United Nations' top humanitarian official from visiting Darfur where he was going to survey the humanitarian toll.

And, since we started this petition two weeks ago, Dr. Mudawi Ibrahim Adam, a Sudanese advocate with whom we work closely, was told that the government is closing down two of his organization’s offices in west Darfur. His group, SUDO, is one of Sudan’s last remaining human rights groups operating in Darfur.

Urgent efforts to bring peace to the region are needed now. Human Rights First is calling for a U.N. appointed diplomat of the highest international stature to re-energize the peace process in Darfur.

Help bring HOPE to Darfur; become one of the more than 14,000 people who have signed the petition so far. Please click here to stand in for a victim and watch our short movie about the Darfur crisis. We are seeking to get 200,000 caring people to sign their names – so after you sign, please forward this petition to ten friends today.

Thanks for your help.
