Blessed [is] the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
Behold,
as the eyes of servants [look] unto the hand of their masters, [and] as
the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes [wait]
upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
A
continual burnt offering throughout your generations [at] the door of
the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD: where I will meet
you, to speak there unto thee.--In all places where I record my name I
will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
The
hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the
Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship
him. God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in
spirit and in truth.
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.--Pray without ceasing.

Thou, O Lord God, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever. (2 Samuel 7:29)
his
is a promise pleaded, and so it yields double instruction to us.
Anything which the Lord God has spoken we should receive as surely true
and then plead it at the throne.
Oh, how sweet to quote what our own God has spoken! How precious
to use a "therefore," which the promise suggests, as David does in this
verse!
We do not pray because we doubt but because we believe. To pray
unbelievingly is unbecoming in the Lord's children. No, Lord, we cannot
doubt Thee: we are persuaded that every word of Thine is a sure
foundation for the boldest expectation. We come to Thee and say, "Do as
Thou hast said." Bless Thy servant's house. Heal our sick; save our
hesitating ones; restore those who wander; confirm those who live in
Thy fear. Lord, give us food and raiment according to Thy Word. Prosper
our undertakings; especially succeed our endeavors to make known Thy
gospel in our neighborhood. Make our servants Thy servants, our
children Thy children. Let the blessing flow on to future generations,
and as long as any of our race remains on earth may they remain true to
Thee. O Lord God, "let the house of thy servant be blessed."

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. (Psalm 27:14)
Wait! Wait! Let your waiting be on the Lord! He is worth waiting for. He never disappoints the waiting soul.
While waiting keep up your spirits. Expect a great deliverance, and be ready to praise God for it.
The
promise which should cheer you is in the middle of the verse--"He shall
strengthen thine heart." This goes at once to the place where you need
help. If the heart be sound, all the rest of the system will work well.
The heart wants calming and cheering, and both of these will come if it
be strengthened. A forceful heart rests and rejoices and throbs force
into the whole man.
No one else can get at that secret urn of
life, the heart, so as to pour strength into it. He alone who made it
can make it strong. God is full of strength, and, therefore, He can
impart it to those who need it. Oh, be brave; for the Lord will impart
His strength to you, and you shall be calm in tempest and glad in
sorrow.
He who penned these lines can write as David did--"Wait,
I say, on the Lord." I do, indeed, say it. I know by long and deep
experience that it is good for me to wait upon the Lord.
As for me, I will call upon God; and the Lord shall save me. (Psalm 55:16)
Yes,
I must and will pray. What else can I do! What better can I do?
Betrayed, forsaken, grieved, baffled, O my Lord, I will call upon Thee.
My Ziklag is in ashes, and men speak of stoning me; but I encourage my
heart in the Lord, who will bear me through this trial as He has borne
me through so many others. Jehovah shall save me; I am sure He will,
and I declare my faith.
The Lord and no one else shall save me.
I desire no other helper and would not trust in an arm of flesh even if
I could. I will cry to Him evening, and morning, and noon, and I will
cry to no one else, for He is all sufficient.
How He will save
me I cannot guess; but He will do it, I know. He will do it in the best
and surest way, and He will do it in the largest, truest, and fullest
sense. Out of this trouble and all future troubles the great I AM will
bring me as surely as He lives; and when death comes and all the
mysteries of eternity follow thereon, still will this be true: "the
Lord shall save me." This shall be my song all through this autumn day.
Is it not as a ripe apple from the tree of life? I will feed upon it.
How sweet it is to my taste!

Thou shalt make a plate [of] pure gold, and grave upon it, [like] the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

For it
is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to
nothing the understanding of the prudent. (1 Corinthians 1:19)
This
verse is a threatening so far as the worldly wise are concerned, but to
the simple believer it is a promise. The professedly learned are
forever trying to bring to nothing the faith of the humble believer,
but they fail in their attempts. Their arguments break down, their
theories fall under their own weight, their deep-laid plots discover
themselves before their purpose is accomplished. The old gospel is not
extinct yet, nor will it be while the Lord liveth. If it could have
been exterminated, it would have perished from off the earth long ago.
We
cannot destroy the wisdom of the wise, nor need we attempt it, for the
work is in far better hands. The Lord Himself says, "I will," and He
never resolves in vain. Twice does He in this verse declare His
purpose, and we may rest assured that He will not turn aside from it.
What
clean work the Lord makes of philosophy and "modern thought" when He
puts His hand to it! He brings the fine appearance down to nothing; He
utterly destroys the wood, hay, and stubble. It is written that so it
shall be, and so shall it be. Lord, make short work of it. Amen, and
amen.

One
man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but
comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others
will himself be refreshed (Proverbs 11:24,25).
One
of the reasons God entrusts money to us is to bless other Christians by
meeting their needs. God uses the transfer of money within the body of
Christ to build unity among Christians. Sometimes we withhold money
that God has designated for someone else. He wants to bless through us,
but His will cannot be accomplished through us if we are disobedient.
This
was the case for a business owner who tells of the time when God told
him to forego a company bonus one year. God directed him to share his
year-end bonus with an employee to show his appreciation for him. He
wrestled with God for three full days before obeying the Lord on the
matter. When he finally met with the employee to give him his check,
the man said he had been praying about a financial need he had three
days earlier. He had decided to borrow the money to meet his need. The
amount of money he borrowed was the exact amount the business owner
gave him.
God
had already planned to provide for the employee through the business
owner, but because he was disobedient, he almost missed the opportunity
to be an instrument of God in this man's life. Even so, he could have
prevented the man from having to borrow money. It was an important
lesson for the business owner.
How
many people do we let down because we feel the "harvest" God provides
is all ours? In America the pressure is always on to move up the ladder
of material accumulation. Jesus warned us about this. If our focus is
on accumulation, we will not look for opportunities to be God's vessels
of financial blessing to others. Ask the Lord if you have an open hand
when it comes to finances.
Experiencing God's Power Through Praise by Dr. Michael Youssef
It is easy to praise God when the sun is shining,
our children are making good grades in school, and we have received a
promotion at work. But when the storm clouds gather, the grades start
to slip, and the pink slips are read, the last thing we feel like doing
is praising God. Yet, this is the very time when we need to lift our
voices to Him in praise.
When we praise God, we proclaim our faith in Him. The psalmist writes,
"As for me, I will always have hope. I will praise you more and more.
My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day
long, though I know not its measure" (Psalm 71:14-15).
A sacrifice of praise is something that we offer to God - in times of
well being and in times of sorrow. Never allow praise to become a habit
or a trite activity. It is a priceless honor to kneel before the throne
of our Lord and Savior.
One of the greatest misconceptions concerning praise is that it is
something we do for God. However, nothing could be further from the
truth. God does not need our praise, but certainly, He desires it. He
knows when life takes an unexpected turn toward sorrow or when a
serious illness lingers for months and even years, praise has the
ability to lighten our hearts and fill us with a sense of love and
security that can only come from one place - heaven's throne.
Praise teaches us to be joyful and thankful regardless of our
circumstances. It prepares us for God's service and helps us to see
beyond our present circumstances to the immense possibilities that are
ours through faith in Jesus Christ.
No matter how deep our sorrow or how grave our circumstances may seem,
we can learn to praise God while acknowledging His sovereignty over our
lives. A.B. Simpson wrote, "Lift up the hands that hang down. March
straight through the flood, and lo, the waters will divide, the Red Sea
will open, the Jordan will part, and the Lord will lead you through to
victory."
This sounds like good advice, but what do you do when life becomes so
dark that it seems impossible to praise God? How do you lift your voice
to the Lord in praise when your husband has left you or your daughter
has terminal cancer? How do you praise God when you have just received
word that your loved one has met a sudden death?
You begin by realizing that praise is a sacrifice - an offering to the
Lord. It does not lesson our sorrow or, in many cases, change our
immediate circumstances. It will, however, bring light to our darkness
- a light that Satan cannot extinguish.
Joy And Praise Provide Fresh Strength
Nehemiah wrote, "The joy of the Lord is your strength" (Nehemiah 8:10).
Praise teaches us to turn our eyes away from circumstances to the One
who has the ability to heal, save, renew, and mend every broken heart.
There is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is something
we experience for a moment and is often short lived. Joy is eternal. It
comes only as a result of living a life of praise. Praise comes as a
result of a heart that is overflowing with joy that may even come in
lonely moments. Suddenly, you find yourself being comforted by the One
who created you and who understands your grief and sorrow. You may feel
as though you cannot praise God but if you will just take a step toward
praise, you will sense Gods arms surrounding you.
Your praise can be as simple as this: "To you, O Lord, I lift up my
soul; in you I trust, O my God." Let praise steady your heart when
trouble comes and gain God's perspective on your current situation.
Take time to thank God for what He has done for you. He has saved you
and given you an opportunity to know and love Him. Remember He loves
you with an unconditional love and will not withhold His love from you.
Our deepest gratitude, honor, and glory belong to the Lord. Praise Him for He is worthy to be praised! (Psalm 18:3)

BIBLE MEDITATION: James 1:3 - "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: A
man had a grandfather clock. One day he felt sorry for the grandfather
clock because it had a weight on it, and that weight was always pulling
on the clock. The man said, "Oh, Mr. Clock, you've held this weight so
long; I'm going to remove it and let you rest." The clock protested,
saying, "Don't take that weight from me. That's what keeps me going."
In the same way, the trials and tests of life are there for your
endurance. They're to keep you going, keep you trusting, keep you
praying, and keep you depending upon God.
ACTION POINT: When
was the last time you shared with someone that they need to be thankful
for their trials? When was the last time you told yourself that?

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Matthew 6:25-27 NIV
Do you want to know how to see God? Matthew 5:8 says, Blessed are
the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Get your heart pure and you
will see God.
I was reading Hebrews 11 and came across a verse which has direct
application to this point, "By faith he [Moses] forsook Egypt, not
fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing Him who is
invisible" (Hebrews 11:27).
You get your heart right and friend, youll see the invisible.
Youll see God. You say, "How will I see Him?" You will see Him in
circumstances. You will see Him in nature. Youll see Him in the face
of a child. You will see Him in the Scriptures.
When you become pure in heart, God will become a bright, living
reality to you. What God wants in you and what God wants in me is a
simple little word integrity.
Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live
your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. For you know that it was
not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were
redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your
forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without
blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but
was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe
in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your
faith and hope are in God. 1 Peter 1:17-21 NIV | Print
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth
according to every man's work, pass the time of your
sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed
with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain
conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the
precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without
spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world,
but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in
God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your
faith and hope might be in God. 1 Peter 1:17-21 | Print KJV

T is by the
grace of God that ungodly men are preserved from instant
death. The sharp axe of justice would soon fell the barren
tree if the interceding voice of Jesus did not cry, "Spare
him yet a little." Many sinners, when converted to God, have
gratefully acknowledged that it was of the Lord's mercy that
they were not consumed. John Bunyan had three memorable
escapes before his conversion, and mentions them in his
"Grace Abounding" as illustrious instances of long-suffering
mercy. Occasionally such deliverances are made the means of
affecting the heart with tender emotions of love to God, and
grief for having offended him. Should it not be so? Ought we
not to account that the longsuffering of God is salvation?
(2 Peter 3:15.) An officer during a battle was struck by a
nearly spent ball near his waistcoat pocket, but he remained
uninjured, for a piece of silver stopped the progress of the
deadly missile. The coin was marked at the words DEI GRATIA
(by the grace of God). This providential circumstance deeply
impressed his mind, and led him to read a tract which a godly
sister had given him when leaving home. God blessed the
reading of the tract, and he became, through the rich grace
of God, a believer in the Lord Jesus. Reader, are you unsaved?
Have you experienced any noteworthy deliverances? Then adore
and admire the free grace of God, and pray that it may lead
you to repentance! Are you enquiring for the way of life?
Remember the words DEI GRATIA, and never forget that by grace
we are saved. Grace always pre-supposes unworthiness in its
object. The province of grace ceases where merit begins: what
a cheering word is this to those of you who have no worth,
no merit, no goodness whatever! Crimes are forgiven, and
follies are cured by our Redeemer out of mere free favour.
The word grace has the same meaning as our common term
gratis: Wickliffe's prayer was, "Lord save me gratis" No
works can purchase or procure salvation, but the heavenly
Father giveth freely, and upbraideth not. Grace comes to us through
faith in Jesus. Whosoever believeth on Him is not condemned.
O, sinner, may God give thee grace to look to Jesus and live.
Look now, for to-day is the accepted time!

Should I count myself worthy of such intimacy between God, and myself. My experience is
this: Because of Christ's sacrifice (the giving of His sin free life,
for mine), through Him, I can share such love and beauty, and a "continual fellowship"
with God. I believe, in my heart, that not one of us, in our own
strength, in our own flesh, can be, or is, worthy. I believe there is
not one of us, so sin free, we can say we have a right to fellowship
with the most Holy God. The story of Jesus (my Savior, and, most alive
to me), and His stain free life, to myself, and to the true Christian
world, is very real, and fellowship with God (our Heavenly Father), is
likewise, a reality. That's where the believers deep passion, towards
God, comes into play. We so deeply desire that others, who have no
peace, who've not yet discovered such freedom, in Christ, that they
too, might discover such wonderous, and wonderful, intimacy with God,
through Christ's sacrifice. I know, there are those, that think this to
be, a bunch of nonsense. To the Christian, it's very, very real
(something we strongly know, experience and believe, within) ...
something many of us would literally give our life for, if need be.
I believe,
through Christ, we're made worthy. In my life, it's a known fact of
how appreciative I am, for all that He has done for me, and for the
multitude of times He's blessed me (more times than I can count). I
stand amazed at, and by, Him. This is what sets my heart to dancing,
what causes me to believe no one has to wait until they are holy, or
pure enough to fellowship with God. In my life it's been proven (I
could probably write a book), regarding the greatness of God. I can
only hope others will discover such reality of His great love. May His
blessings be great in your life! Amen.
Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel. (Numbers 23:23)
How
this should cut up root and branch all silly, superstitious fears! Even
if there were any truth in witchcraft and omens, they could not affect
the people of the Lord. Those whom God blessed, devils cannot curse.
Ungodly
men, like Balaam, may cunningly plot the overthrow of the Lord's
Israel; but with all their secrecy and policy they are doomed to fail.
Their powder is damp; the edge of their sword is blunted. They gather
together; but as the Lord is not with them, they gather together in
vain. We may sit still and let them weave their nets, for we shall not
be taken in them. Though they call in the aid of Beelzebub and employ
all his serpentine craft, it will avail them nothing: the spells will
not work, the divination will deceive them. What a blessing this is!
How it quiets the heart! God's Jacobs wrestle with God, but none shall
wrestle with them and prevail. God's Israels have to prevail against
them. We need not fear the fiend himself, nor any of those secret
enemies whose words are full of deceit and whose plans are deep and
unfathomable. They cannot hurt those who trust in the living God. We
defy the devil and all his legions.

Search me, O God, and know my heart. (Psalm 139:23)
It takes courage to tell a king the truth,
especially when the truth will result in punishment. Punishment for the
king (by God) and punishment for yourself (by the king). John the
Baptist did it and it cost him his head.
When David made some serious mistakes, God sent the
prophet Nathan to point them out to him. It was a difficult task for
Nathan. Which one of us would like to be a bearer of bad tidings? But
Nathan went to tell the king what the consequences of his sin would be.
How did David react? Did he have Nathan killed? No, David did something
unusual he accepted the criticism and admitted the guilt: I have
sinned. He did not try to defend himself, but humbled himself before
God. Is this not characteristic of a man after Gods own heart?
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23,24)
My soul cleaveth to the dust: revive thou me according to thy word.
If
ye then be raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where
Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things
above, not on things on the earth. For . . . your life is hid with
Christ in God.--Our citizenship is in heaven; from which also we look
for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our lowly
body, that it may be fashioned like his glorious body, according to the
working by which he is able even to subdue all things to himself.
The
flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and
these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the
things that ye would.--Brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to
live according to the flesh. For if ye live according to the flesh, ye
shall die: but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body,
ye shall live. --Dearly beloved, I beseech [you] as sojourners and
pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. (Romans 16:20)
This
promise follows well upon that of yesterday. We are evidently to be
conformed to our covenant Head, not only in His being bruised in His
heel but in His conquest of the evil one. Even under our feet is the
old dragon to be bruised. The Roman believers were grieved with strife
in the church; but their God was "the God of peace" and gave them rest
of soul. The archenemy tripped up the feet of the unwary and deceived
the hearts of the simple; but he was to get the worst of it and to be
trodden down by those whom he had troubled. This victory would not come
to the people of God through their own skill or power; but God Himself
would bruise Satan. Though it would be under their feet, yet the
bruising would be of the Lord alone.
Let us bravely tread upon
the tempter! Not only inferior spirits but the prince of darkness
himself must go down before us. In unquestioning confidence in God let
us look for speedy victory. "Shortly." Happy word! Shortly we shall set
our foot on the old serpent! What a joy to crush evil! What dishonor to
Satan to have his head bruised by human feet! Let us by faith in Jesus
tread the tempter down.

As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem. (Isaiah 31:5)
With
hurrying wing the mother bird hastens up to the protection of her
young. She wastes no time upon the road when coming to supply them with
food or guard them from danger. Thus as on eagle's wings will the Lord
come for the defense of His chosen; yea, He will ride upon the wings of
the wind.
With outspread wing the mother covers her little ones
in the nest. She hides them away by interposing her own body. The hen
yields her own warmth to her chicks and makes her wings a house, in
which they dwell at home. Thus doth Jehovah Himself become the
protection of His elect. He Himself is their refuge, their abode, their
all.
As birds flying and birds covering (for the word means
both), so will the Lord be unto us: and this He will be repeatedly and
successfully. We shall be defended and preserved from all evil: the
Lord who likens Himself to birds will not be like them in their
feebleness, for He is Jehovah of hosts. Let this be our comfort, that
almighty love will be swift to succor and sure to cover. The wing of
God is more quick and more tender than the wing of a bird, and we will
put our trust under its shadow henceforth and forever.

This may sound strange-but it is a fact that death is not the worst thing that can happen to a believing Christian! I can recall the first time I heard that statement, in a quiet conversation with Harry M. Shuman, for many years the president of the international Christian and Missionary Alliance. He was a soft-spoken yet forceful man of God, rich in the wisdom of Go&s Word. We were talking of the serious issues of life and death. When he had something especially important to say, Dr. Shuman had an unusual way of lowering his voice and tilting his head just a bit. I can see him yet as he looked out from under his shaggy brows straight into my eyes. "Remember, Tozer," he said, "death is not the worst thing that can happen to a person!" For the Christian, death is a journey to the eternal world. It is a victory, a rest, a delight. I am sure my small amount of physical suffering has been mild compared to Paul's, but I feel as Paul did: "I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far!" (Philippians 2:23).
Jesus is passing through the throng to the house of Jairus, to raise the ruler's dead daughter; but He is so profuse in goodness that He works another miracle while upon the road. While yet this rod of Aaron bears the blossom of an unaccomplished wonder, it yields the ripe almonds of a perfect work of mercy. It is enough for us, if we have some one purpose, straightway to go and accomplish it; it were imprudent to expend our energies by the way. Hastening to the rescue of a drowning friend, we cannot afford to exhaust our strength upon another in like danger. It is enough for a tree to yield one sort of fruit, and for a man to fulfil his own peculiar calling. But our Master knows no limit of power or boundary of mission. He is so prolific of grace, that like the sun which shines as it rolls onward in its orbit, His path is radiant with lovingkindness. He is a swift arrow of love, which not only reaches its ordained target, but perfumes the air through which it flies. Virtue is evermore going out of Jesus, as sweet odours exhale from flowers; and it always will be emanating from Him, as water from a sparkling fountain. What delightful encouragement this truth affords us! If our Lord is so ready to heal the sick and bless the needy, then, my soul, be not thou slow to put thyself in His way, that He may smile on thee. Be not slack in asking, if He be so abundant in bestowing. Give earnest heed to His word now, and at all times, that Jesus may speak through it to thy heart. Where He is to be found there make thy resort, that thou mayst obtain His blessing. When He is present to heal, may He not heal thee? But surely He is present even now, for He always comes to hearts which need Him. And dost not thou need Him? Ah, He knows how much! Thou Son of David, turn Thine eye and look upon the distress which is now before Thee, and make Thy suppliant whole.
The prayer of the upright is his delight. (Proverbs 15:8)
his
is as good as a promise, for it declares a present fact, which will be
the same throughout all ages. God takes great pleasure in the prayers
of upright men; He even calls them His delight. Our first concern is to
be upright. Neither bending this way nor that, continue upright; not
crooked with policy, nor prostrate by yielding to evil, be you upright
in strict integrity and straightforwardness. If we begin to shuffle and
shift, we shall be left to shift for ourselves. If we try crooked ways,
we shall find that we cannot pray, and if we pretend to do so, we shall
find our prayers shut out of heaven.
Are we acting in a straight line and thus following out the
Lord's revealed will? Then let us pray much and pray in faith. If our
prayer is God's delight, let us not stint Him in that which gives Him
pleasure. He does not consider the grammar of it, nor the metaphysics
of it, nor the rhetoric of it; in all these men might despise it. He,
as a Father, takes pleasure in the lispings of His own babes, the
stammerings of His newborn sons and daughters. Should we not delight in
prayer since the Lord delights in it? Let us make errands to the
throne. The Lord finds us enough reasons for prayer, and we ought to
thank Him that it is so.

resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 7 That
the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that
perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and
honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: 8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
showing that salvation in Christ is a thing prophesied of old
10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 11 Searching
what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did
signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the
glory that should follow. 12 Unto
whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did
minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have
preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven;
which things the angels desire to look into.
God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all consolation; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble, by the consolation with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
Now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through various temptations: that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though tried with fire, might be found to praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.--The Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and [that] all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
Let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls [to him] in well doing, as to a faithful Creator.

Every man is the temple of God and the dwelling place of His Spirit
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The ungodly shall perish
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
"Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? And yet not one of them is forgotten before
God. "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows. (NAS, Luke 12:6-7)
Jesus often referred to God as "the Father" or "the heavenly Father." Our relationship to
God is like the loving relationship between parent and child. Like a loving parent, God knows and cares deeply
for each of us.
God is pure Spirit. We cannot see or touch Him. We can only dimly understand Him, but we can know Him through
prayer, through the teachings of the Bible, and through our faith. In His teachings, Jesus presents a picture of
a very loving God who wants everyone to be in harmony with Him. He is seeking to awaken a loving response in each
of us. God knows and loves each of us personally, as parents know and love their children. God will give good things
to those who ask:
"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it
shall be opened. "Or what man is there among you, when his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone?
"Or if he shall ask for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? "If you then, being evil, know
how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to
those who ask Him! (NAS, Matthew 7:8-11)
Like children, some of us return God's love, and some do not. Nevertheless, He loves all of us. God's gifts
of love and salvation are freely offered to all, even to those who choose the path of wickedness.
…. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous
and the unrighteous. (NIV, Matthew 5:45)
God is also merciful. He is always willing to forgive a truly repentant sinner and give him or her another chance.
Even when we sin, we can be assured that God still loves us and seeks to bring us back into harmony with Him. However,
it is up to us; we can accept or reject God's love. No matter how far our lives have drifted away from God, we
must never be discouraged and think we are beyond hope!
"What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not
leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it? "And when
he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. "And when he comes home, he calls together his friends
and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' "I tell you
that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous
persons who need no repentance. (NAS, Luke 15:4-7)
One day Jesus was speaking with the Pharisee, Nicodemus, who was intrigued by Jesus' teaching but was more than
a bit skeptical. Jesus told Nicodemus that God loved the people He had created so much that He sent Jesus to save
them from the forces of evil and their own sinful ways. Those who put their trust in Jesus and His teachings could
be born again spiritually and be part of God's spiritual kingdom. They could even defeat the power of death and
attain eternal spiritual life! It was in this conversation with Nicodemus that Jesus spoke one of the most loved
and quoted verses of the Bible:
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes
in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the
world, but that the world should be saved through Him. (NAS, John 3:16-17)
The Lord shall guide thee continually. (Isaiah 58:11)
hat
aileth thee? Hast thou lost thy way? Art thou entangled in a dark wood
and canst thou not find thy paths? Stand still, and see the salvation
of God. He knows the way, and He will direct thee in it if thou cry
unto Him.
Every day brings its own perplexity. How sweet to feel that the
guidance of the Lord is continual! If we choose our own way or consult
with flesh and blood we cast ok the Lord's guidance; but if we abstain
from self-will, then He will direct every step of our road, every hour
of the day, and every day of the year, and every year of our life. If
we will but be guided, we shall be guided. If we will commit our way
unto the Lord, He will direct our course so that we shall not lose
ourselves.
But note to whom this promise is made. Read the previous verse:
"If thou draw out thy soul to the hungry." We must feel for others and
give them, not a few dry crusts, but such things as we ourselves would
wish to receive. If we show a tender care for our fellow-creatures in
the hour of their need, then will the Lord attend to our necessities
and make Himself our continual Guide. Jesus is the Leader, not of
misers, nor of those who oppress the poor, but of the kind and
tenderhearted. Such persons are pilgrims who shall never miss their way. by:Spurgeon

Has it ever dawned on you that you are responsible for other souls
spiritually before God? For instance, if I allow any private deflection
from God in my life, everyone about me suffers. We "sit together
in heavenly places." "Whether one member suffer, all the members suffer
with it." When once you allow physical selfishness, mental
slovenliness, moral obtuseness, spiritual density, everyone belonging
to your crowd will suffer. "But," you say, "who is sufficient for these
things if you erect a standard like that?" "Our sufficiency is of God,"
and of Him alone.
"Ye shall be My witnesses." How many of us are willing to
spend every ounce of nervous energy, of mental, moral and spiritual
energy we have for Jesus Christ? That is the meaning of a witness
in God's sense of the word. It takes time, be patient with yourself.
God has left us on the earth - what for? To be saved and sanctified?
No, to be at it for Him. Am I willing to be broken bread and poured out
wine for Him? To be spoilt for this age, for this life, to be spoilt
from every standpoint but one - saving as I can disciple men and women
to the Lord Jesus Christ. My life as a worker is the way I say "thank
you" to God for His unspeakable salvation. Remember it is quite
possible for any one of us to be flung out as reprobate silver - ". . .
lest that by any means when I have preached to others, I myself should
be a castaway."
Dwight L. Moody told of the young man who did not want to serve in Napoleon Bonaparte's army. When he was drafted, a friend volunteered to go in his place. The substitution was made, and some time later the surrogate was killed in battle.
However, the same young man was, through a clerical error, drafted again. "You can't take me" he told the startled officers. "I'm dead. I died on the battlefield."
They argued that they could see him standing right in front of them, but he insisted they look on the roll to find the record of his death. Sure enough, there on the roll was the man's name, with another name written beside it.
The case finally went to the emperor himself. After examining the evidence, Napoleon said, "Through a surrogate, this man has not only fought, but has died in his country's service. No man can die more than once, therefore the law has no claim on him."
Two thousand years ago, Jesus went to the cross to bear the penalty that rightly belongs to us. He died in our place. And through Him, our names are written in the book with His name written beside ours.
“My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:18)
Have you ever felt like a spiritual failure? If so, then you’re in
good company. Even the apostle Peter felt that way after he denied the
Lord.
When Jesus told the disciples they would abandon Him in His hour of need, Peter insisted that he never would. But Jesus said that Peter would deny Him three times before the rooster crowed that day. And he did.
Now, Peter finds himself in an awkward moment. Jesus was crucified
and had risen on the third day. He suddenly appears to them at the Sea
of Galilee. Before they knew it, Jesus was cooking breakfast for
everyone with the fish He had just helped them catch. Maybe as they
ate, Peter was remembering when, not all that long ago, he denied the
Lord by the glow of another fire.
Eventually, the Lord breaks the silence. He asks Peter a series of questions, each with the same phrase: “Do you love Me?”
Peter had learned his lesson. Instead of boasting of his love for
the Lord, he simply answers, “Yes Lord; You know that I love you” (John
21:15–17). In the original language, the word Peter used for “love”
was phileo. It could be translated, “have an affection for.”
At least Peter was being honest. We can talk all day about how much
we love God, but never act on it. Peter eventually proved his love for
the Lord. A leader in the early church and the writer of two New
Testament epistles, he reportedly was crucified upside-down as a martyr
for his faith.
How about you? Is your love for the Lord expressed more by your words than your actions?
Sin Can't Win And Faith Can't Fail
January 30, 2008
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for
good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His
purpose.”
Things may seem bad, but we must acknowledge, understand and
surrender to the Truth that God is working all things after the purpose
of His will for those whom He has called.
God is sovereign. Not a snowflake falls without His permission. Not a blade of grass moves without His acquiescence.
The opposite of Romans 8:28 is just as true: All things work
together for bad to those who don’t love God and who are not called
according to His purpose.
Friend, faith is more than just belief – it is surrendering your
understanding of everything in life to the utmost sovereign will and
wisdom of Almighty God.
3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't
he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost
sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' 7
I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven
over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who
do not need to repent.
Return from Backsliding
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up. (Job 22:23)
Eliphaz, in this utterance, spoke a great truth, which is the summary of many an inspired Scripture. Reader, has sin pulled you down? Have you become like a ruin? Has the hand of the Lord gone out against you so that in estate you are impoverished and in spirit you are broken down? Was it your own folly which brought upon you all this dilapidation? Then the first thing to be done is to return to the Lord. With deep repentance and sincere faith find your way back from your backsliding. It is you" duty, for you have turned away from Him whom you professed to serve. It is your wisdom, for you cannot strive against Him and prosper. It is your immediate necessity, for what He has done is nothing compared to what He may do in the way of chastisement, since He is Almighty to punish.
See what a promise invites you! You shall be "built up." None but the Almighty can set up the fallen pillars and restore the tottering walls of your condition; but He can and He will do it if you return to Him. Do not delay. Your crushed mind may quite fail you if you go on to rebel; but hearty confession will ease you, and humble faith will console you. Do this, and all will be well.

Yesterday's promise secured us strength for what we have to do, but
this guarantees us aid in cases where we cannot act alone. The Lord
says, "I will help thee." Strength within is supplemented by help
without. God can raise us up allies in our warfare if so it seems good
in His sight; and even if He does not send us human assistance, He
Himself will be at our side, and this is better still. "Our August
Ally" is better than legions of mortal helpers.
His help is timely: He is a very present help in time of trouble. His
help is very wise: He knows how to give each man help meet and fit for
him. His help is most effectual, though vain is the help of man. His
help is more than help, for He bears all the burden and supplies all
the need. "The Lord is my helper, I will not fear what man can do unto
me."
Because He has already been our help, we feel confidence in Him for the
present and the future. Our prayer is, "Lord, by thou my helper"; our
experience is, "The Spirit also helpeth our infirmities"; our
expectation is, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, whence cometh
my help"; and our song soon will be, "Thou, Lord, hast holden me."

But
thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ
and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of
him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being
saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of
death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a
task? Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On
the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men
sent from God. 2 Corinthians 2:14-17 NIV | Print · Listen to Today's Devotional: Flash Player or MP3
Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ,
and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved,
and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto
death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is
sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the
word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God
speak we in Christ. 2 Corinthians 2:14-17 | Print KJV
"The life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God."-Galatians 2:20
When the Lord in mercy passed by and saw us in our blood, He first of
all said, "Live"; and this He did first, because life is one of the
absolutely essential things in spiritual matters, and until it be
bestowed we are incapable of partaking in the things of the kingdom.
Now the life which grace confers upon the saints at the moment of their
quickening is none other than the life of Christ, which, like the sap
from the stem, runs into us, the branches, and establishes a living
connection between our souls and Jesus. Faith is the grace which
perceives this union, having proceeded from it as its firstfruit. It is
the neck which joins the body of the Church to its all-glorious Head.
"Oh Faith! thou bond of union with the Lord,
Is not this office thine? and thy fit name,
In the economy of gospel types,
And symbols apposite-the Church's neck;
Identifying her in will and work
With Him ascended?"
Faith lays hold upon the Lord Jesus with a firm and determined grasp.
She knows His excellence and worth, and no temptation can induce her to
repose her trust elsewhere; and Christ Jesus is so delighted with this
heavenly grace, that He never ceases to strengthen and sustain her by
the loving embrace and all-sufficient support of His eternal arms.
Here, then, is established a living, sensible, and delightful union
which casts forth streams of love, confidence, sympathy, complacency,
and joy, whereof both the bride and bridegroom love to drink. When the
soul can evidently perceive this oneness between itself and Christ, the
pulse may be felt as beating for both, and the one blood as flowing
through the veins of each. Then is the heart as near heaven as it can
be on earth, and is prepared for the enjoyment of the most sublime and
spiritual kind of fellowship.
This is the will of God, [even] your sanctification.-- Acquaint now
thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto
thee.--This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true
God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.--We know that the Son of
God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him
that is true, and we are in him that is true, [even] in his Son Jesus
Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
We . . . do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be
filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding.--The God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge
of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may
know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory
of his inheritance in the saints, and what [is] the exceeding greatness
of his power to us-ward who believe.
YESTERDAY "The God of Israel will be your rereward." Isaiah 52:12Security from Yesterday. "God requireth that which is past."
At the end of the year we turn with eagerness to all that God has for
the future, and yet anxiety is apt to arise from remembering the
yesterdays. Our present enjoyment of God's grace is apt to be checked
by the memory of yesterday's sins and blunders. But God is the God of
our yesterdays, and He allows the memory of them in order to turn the
past into a ministry of spiritual culture for the future. God reminds
us of the past lest we get into a shallow security in the present.
Security for To-morrow. "For the Lord will go before
you." This is a gracious revelation, that God will garrison where we
have failed to. He will watch lest things trip us up again into like
failure, as they assuredly would do if He were not our rereward. God's
hand reaches back to the past and makes a clearing-house for
conscience. Security for To-day. "For ye shall not go out with
haste." As we go forth into the coming year, let it not be in the haste
of impetuous, unremembering delight, nor with the flight of impulsive
thoughtlessness, but with the patient power of knowing that the God of
Israel will go before us. Our yesterdays present irreparable things to
us; it is true that we have lost opportunities which will never return,
but God can transform this destructive anxiety into a constructive
thoughtfulness for the future. Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on
the bosom of Christ. Leave the Irreparable Past in His hands, and step out into the Irresistible Future with Him. by: Oswald Chambers 1874-1917
19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But
store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not
destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
"Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst,
Fear not. O Lord, thou pleadest the cause of my soul; thou hast
redeemed my life." --- Lamentations 3:57, 58.
"Fear not, for I am with thee." --- Isaiah 43:5.
"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for
evermore; and have the keys of hell and of death." --- Revelation 1:18.
Christ has overcome, led captivity captive, and, by one offering,
perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Hebrews 10:14. Whoever
leaves this world believing in him, being perfected already, has
nothing to fear after death.
O my heavenly Father, dispose me to seek diligently after holiness;
and though the work of sanctification will be imperfect in this life,
which should humble me much, yet let it cause no fear of death, nor
disturb my confidence in thee, since my salvation and my confidence do
not depend on perfect holiness here, but on my being in Christ and
adopted through him; which adoption the weakest child hath,as well as
the strongest, though both are not equally sensible of it.
For every true believer, whether weak or strong, hath eternal life,
and shall not fall into condemnation. If, therefore, I am a child of
God, though a weak one, I am still an heir, and shall find life and
deliverance in death:
I am Alpha, says the Saviour,
I Omega likewise am;
I was dead, and live for ever,
God Almighty and the Lamb.
In the Lord is our perfection,
And in him our boast we'll make;
We shall share his reurrection,
If we of his death partake. by: C.H.V.

This may sound like heresy in some
quarters, but I have come to this conclusion-that there are far too
many among us who have thought that they accepted Christ, but nothing
has come of it within their own lives and desires and habits! This kind
of philosophy in soul-winning-the idea that it is "the easiest thing in
the world to accept Jesus"-permits the man or woman to accept Christ by
an impulse of the mind or of the emotions. It allows us to gulp twice
and sense an emotional feeling that has come over us, and then say, "I
have accepted Christ." These are spiritual matters about which we must
be legitimately honest and in which we must seek the discernment of the
Holy Spirit. These are things about which we cannot afford to be wrong;
to be wrong is still to be lost and far from God. Let us never forget
that the Word of God stresses the importance of conviction and concern
and repentance when it comes to conversion, spiritual regeneration,
being born from above by the Spirit of God!
As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem. (Isaiah 31:5)
With hurrying wing the mother bird hastens up to the protection of her
young. She wastes no time upon the road when coming to supply them with
food or guard them from danger. Thus as on eagle's wings will the Lord
come for the defense of His chosen; yea, He will ride upon the wings of
the wind.
With outspread wing the mother covers her little ones in the nest. She
hides them away by interposing her own body. The hen yields her own
warmth to her chicks and makes her wings a house, in which they dwell
at home. Thus doth Jehovah Himself become the protection of His elect.
He Himself is their refuge, their abode, their all.
As birds flying and birds covering (for the word means both), so will
the Lord be unto us: and this He will be repeatedly and successfully.
We shall be defended and preserved from all evil: the Lord who likens
Himself to birds will not be like them in their feebleness, for He is
Jehovah of hosts. Let this be our comfort, that almighty love will be
swift to succor and sure to cover. The wing of God is more quick and
more tender than the wing of a bird, and we will put our trust under
its shadow henceforth and forever.

The heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat. --2 Peter 3:10
In 1883, the greatest volcanic explosion in modern history took place.
Krakatoa, an island volcano along the Indonesian arc, shot 6 cubic
miles of soil, rock, vegetation, and animal and human life 24 miles up
into the stratosphere. Its shockwave traveled around the world seven
times, and its debris fell as far as Madagascar--more than 2,000 miles
away!
At the time of Krakatoa's explosion, Captain Sampson of the
British vessel Norham Castle was nearby and wrote in his log: "I am
writing this blind in pitch darkness. We are under continual rain of
pumice-stone and dust. So violent are the explosions that the ear-drums
of over half my crew have been shattered. . . . I am convinced that the
Day of Judgment has come."
Captain Sampson believed that the world was coming to an end.
The explosion does seem to fit 2 Peter 3:10, "The heavens will pass
away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat."
As terrible as Krakatoa was, though, it did not signal the end of the
world.
Crisis has a way of shaking us out of complacency. It reminds
us this world is not our home and encourages us to be godly (v.11).
When it feels as if our personal world is coming to an end, we should
