PRAYER WARRIORS!  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

anonymous  April 21, 2009 10:58 PM

Pray warriors are often hidden from the world. Some people have the gift of being a prayer warrior. This is a person who prays for others, for world situations, for countries, for churches, for individuals. Each prayer warrior may have a different prayer mission. For instance, some prayer warriors only pray for the sick, while others may pray for the persecuted Christian, or the homeless person. And some prayer warriors may pray for whatever they feel led to pray for. Another words, they have a very deep feeling that they should pray for a certain person, or situation, and they are obedient to God, and pray.
Whatever they pray for they pray with all of their heart and soul. Some may sing their prayers, some may pray in their prayer closet, or prayer groups, or church, or some private, hidden place. Some prayer warriors may fast on occasion, but should only do so wisely, with juice or water and a reasonable time limit. Some prayer warriors, might prayer simple quiet prayers, while other may even prayer loudly in a private place or in a church where this is accepted. Some prayer warriors will pray with candles, some without candles, some on their knees, others standing up with arms raised, some prayer warriors will pray sitting in a chair.
But no matter how these prayer warriors pray, they are honoring Jesus by using their gift, and asking sincerely for Jesus's help. These are who prayer warriors are.

Sometimes prayer warriors do not get much recognition. They are hidden, often praying in secret, but not always. Many also pray in public as the Lord leads. They often are not acknowledged as important, and they may often not see the results of their prayers for long periods of time or maybe never. They may not even know that their prayers have been answered. They pray entirely on faith. Some prayer warriors are so hidden and secret, that no one ever knows they are praying, no one that is except for Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit!
And yet how very important they are. We see so little of what goes on in the spiritual world. Or even in this world. We do not when one person's prayer has saved the life of another's. Or when a simply said  prayer has opened the door to a job, or saved a marriage. We do not know when someone singing a prayer has brought food to a starving person, or has opened someone's heart to salvation. We do not know when someone doing spiritual battle through prayer, has chased away the darkness of Satan and let the light come flooding into a lost and frightened soul, or led a wandering lamb back to the Lord.
So prayer warriors are extremely important and we should pray for the prayer warrior and take the time to say thank you to the person who may not even realize what an important mission they have!

Mr. John Gosset, a friend of Mr. Howells, says, "A prayer warrior can pray for a thing to be done without necessarily being willing for the answer to come through himself; and he is not even bound to continue in prayer until it is answered." This is from the book, 'Bees Howells Intercessor'. In other words, a prayer warrior can carry the prayer to Jesus, but does not have to be a vessel through which the prayer is answered. I want to emphasize that prayer is still important no matter who it comes from. Let me give you an example. Let's say there is a terrible fire, and it is a big one. Before the days when water was pumped through a fire hydrant, a relay was set up and one person would fill a bucket full of water and pass the bucket on to the next until the person standing right by the fire would throw the water on the fire. The prayer warrior is like the person passing the bucket to the next person, and the intercessor is like the person next to the fire who must actually put the fire out. The intercessor is there to finish putting out the fire long after the prayer warrior is finished; however, the prayer warrior is just as necessary, because the intercessor would tire before the fire was completely out,  the mess cleaned up and things put back in order, if the prayer warriors had not been there to pass on the buckets. All prayer is important and necessary. Bear in mind that sometimes there might not be  prayer warriors for the intercessor, but that the Lord would give the intercessor extra strength and motivation to pull through. For the most part though the Lord, prefers that we all do our part, in a coordinated effort.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

PULLING DOWN THE DEVILS STRONGHOLDS THROUGH PRAYER!
Everyone of us; who have been born again and are saved by the grace of Jesus, are part of God's church.
When we ask Jesus to come into our lives we become a part of the Christian body. If you are saved and Baptized in the Holy Spirit you are also, part of God's church and Christian body. In fact you have the power of the Holy Spirit, in yourself and surrounding you.
Jesus states in Matthew 16:18, "Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." As a body of believers we are given spiritual weapons, the most powerful weapon being prayer!
"It is true that I am an ordinary, weak, human being, but I don't use human plans and methods to win my battles. I use God's mighty weapons, not those made by men, to knock down the devil's strongholds. These weapons can knock down every proud argument against God and every wall that can be built to keep men from finding Him.  With these weapons I can capture rebels and bring them back to God..."Ephesians 6:12
You may not feel that you have any power and that you are weak but the Bible says, "God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty." 1 Corinthians 1:27
1.] Your spiritual powers are mighty through God!
Not only are mighty through God, but you can ask anything through Jesus. "If you ask anything in my name, I will do it." John 14:14
2.] Joining a fellow Christian in prayer will give you more power to bind Satan. When two dedicated Christians meet to tear down strongholds there is extra power and authority to get the job done.
3.] Be careful how you rebuke the devil!
When I read this from Lunstrom's book, "How you can pray with power and get results." I was especially interested to learn that it is better to say "The Lord rebuke you Satan!" then to say "I rebuke you Satan!" This made sense to me because it only through the power of God that we can ever rebuke Satan, and by saying, "the Lord rebuke you Satan!" we are handing the situation over to Jesus. Jesus knows exactly what to do and has the power to do so.

Why God Wants You to Pray?
1.] Prayer prepares you to reign with God. (Prayer is the means by which we overcome evil, and prepares us for our roles with Jesus, and finally for your position in heaven.)
2.] Prayer gives you divine power and authority! (Prayer is God's appointed method for you to take charge of your life, prayer is the way for you to win spiritual battles, and prayer is the way you claim God's promises.)
3.] Prayer brings growth! (Don't be discouraged by delays! It is the spiritual way to grow up in God.)
4.] Prayer can be a transforming experience! (Prayer is your greatest privilege!)

Jesus asked His disciples; as Intercessors,to pray for laborers to go and harvest for the need was and is very great. Everywhere you see lost souls and worldly troubles. Jesus knew that this was a great need and therefore wanted intercessors to pray. As an intercessors you should seek God's will in this.
How great the need is! How important your prayer and support is. Jesus asked us and has given us permission to pray for laborers for the harvest. This should be an unceasing prayer for the intercessors of today!

THE POWER OF INTERCESSORY PRAYER!
(The Prophet Samuel told King Saul, "God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you...")
Intercessory Prayer
1.]
Prayer is a ministry! Intercessory prayer is love on it's knees, or in my case sitting or standing, because my knees are bad with arthritis, but I think you understand what this means. Sometimes intercessory prayer means sacrificing-such as not watching that movie, or getting up an hour earlier than you usually do. If you have a partner or friend that will pray with you that is even better, because Jesus tells us that two or more brings greater power to your prayer! A group of intercessors is better yet. Yet even alone, your prayer can be effective!
2.] Everyone can pray! This is a Godly mission that everyone can have a part in. You will be listened to whether you are rich or poor, educated or uneducated, single or married, young or old, no matter where you live and even if you are homeless. You will be listened to if you are gifted in speech or tongue tied, full of wisdom or very simple in speech and manner. Your prayers will always be listened to.
3.] Intercessory prayer is faithful and persistent prayer. Intercessors go the extra mile and pray on a regular basis without missing and keep on praying. They don't give up, forget, or say later!
4.] When you pray God gives you a great measure  of control over the event. You are giving God a petition to consider.
5.] God is waiting for us to take hold of His promises.

4.] Prayers that changed history
There are accounts of many miracles in World War II because of prayer!
1.] At the same time that the miracle of "Salerno," was happening; Rees Howells and his students were deep in prayer.
2.] When Hitler's army attacked the Soviet Union instead of England, his army became snowbound in the worse winters of Russian history. Millions of Christians were praying that Hitler would be defeated. In fact there are so many instances like this that I can not put all of them down, for lack of room.
3.] Throughout the Old and New Testaments men and women of God, and His prophets changed history through prayer.
4.] Many people do not know this but before and during the Civil War in the United States of America, whole underground Christian churches and organizations were working in action and in prayer to end slavery. Thousands upon thousands of Christians were praying for the practice of slavery to end and for the North to win in the war. I know this because of historical research I have done.
Again, when the United States was attacked on September 11th, millions of Christians across the earth were praying. There are many movies of the miracles that happened with this horrific event. Most of the Christians praying were unknown and unseen! But not unheard!

How to Put Power in You're Prayers!
1.] Fasting-Fasting can put power in your prayer-if done correctly! Here are the a,b,c's of fasting. Fasting means that you go without eating while in a private prayer place and pray. If fasting improperly, you can endanger your health, so here are some rules. a.] Never fast if your health does not permit it. God will still honor your prayers even though you can not fast. b.] Never fast for longer than a week, two days is best. c.] Always have juice, bottled water, and milk handy. d.] After two days of fasting, you should also start eating soup. e.] The first day after you end the fast, soup is good to eat, so that your body can adjust again.
2.] When you have a great prayer need, pray with great need!
3.] A strong desire to pray is the Key to Power in prayer!
4.] Hunger and Thirst after God!
5.] Pray with determination!
6.] Pray, 'remembering the promises of God!'
7.] When you pray, "Hang on to God as if you were Jacob, wrestling with an angel."
8.] Never give up in your prayer!

PRAYING WITH PRAISE!
Praising God and Praising Jesus brings your prayers into the presence of God!
"I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth!"Psalm 34:1
1.] Praise Opens Heaven's Gates to Your Petitions!
"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto Him and praise His name." Psalm 100:4
2.] Bless His name in all you do!
3.] Raise your hands heavenward!
"I desire that you pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands without wrath or doubting." 1 Timothy 2:8
According to Lowell Lundstrom, '"The act of raising hands is a universal sign of surrender; it means, "I give up.  I surrender myself to one before me." When I raise my hands to the Lord, It is an act of surrendering my life to Him.'
4.] Praise is your privilege as a believer.
"He that loved us and washed us from our sins with His own blood...HAS MADE US KINGS AND PRIESTS UNTO GOD..." Revelation 1:5 & 6
"Seeing that we have a Great High Priest, that is passed into the Heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession." Hebrew 4:14

THE PROBLEM OF UNANSWERED PRAYER!
1.] Some prayers are not answered because God wills differently.
2.] Some prayers are not answered because you are not ready to receive what you have requested.
While you are waiting for God to answer your prayer, give God praises, do your best and serve God where you are. Lowell Lunstrom says, "If you will humble yourself and serve God in the desert places, in due time God will show you to the multitudes."
3.] Some prayers are not answered because of wrong motives.
4.] Some prayers are not answered because of sin. a.)Stay close to Jesus Christ.
b.) Purify yourself by confessing your sin to Him.
c.) Desire that His will be done in your life.
d.) Do your actions please God? If not, correct your mistakes.
e.) Straighten out your life! Ask Jesus to help you: this is a prayer that will be answered!
5.] A division between you and another brother/sister will hinder your prayers.
a.) Examine your heart and your relationships with others. Go to that person(s) and make things right.
6.] Division within your family will also hinder your prayers.
This is a hard one, especially if your family members are not Christians. Sometimes you must spend a lot of time in your prayer room! God will show you what to do even in difficult cases:
~Specific Instruction to husbands~
 1 Peter 3:7
{........remember that you and your wife are partners in receiving God's blessings, and if you don't treat her as you should, your prayers will not get ready answers."}
7.] A withholding spirit will shut heaven to your prayers.
~This does not just mean money-although 10 percent of your income will bring you God's blessing- this also means helping others, donating a quilt or excess garden vegetables, fruits, sewing coat, giving a ride, salting a sidewalk, yard work, or giving food to a hungry family or individual. God will reward you in many ways for these acts of love, including answered prayer.~
8.] Some prayers are not answered immediately because of a great spiritual battle in progress. Persist in prayer!

THE LORD'S PATTERN OF PRAYER!
1.] Private prayer is important to each Christian!
a.) Every Christian should have a prayer closet or prayer room! Even if it is your bedroom! A prayer closet is a room where you can be by yourself and pray, meditate, ask and praise. This is one on one time with a believer and the Lord.
b.) You must make it a point to pray in your prayer closet everyday!
c.) Be consistent in your time spent in the prayer closet!
2.] Repetitive prayers which are often said before bedtime or at mealtimes, aren't very useful to God. He wants you to have a real conversation with Him. So when you pray:
a.) Be sincere and tell Him what's on your mind. b.) However, thanks and praise repeated sincerely are very much appreciated by the Lord.
c.) Jingles repeated do not offer true prayer.
d.) Words said over and over, memorized but not offered sincerely are not effective.
3.] Determination in prayer is important!
a.) God wants to know that you to put effort into your prayer! Luke 18:2-8
b.) Prayer said with determination and effort will exercise your faith! Luke 18:1
c.) Keep asking sincerely and don't give up! Luke 11:5-10.
4.] Thank God no matter what the answer! God likes to hear us say thank you!

~PRAYING AT FAMILY BIRTHS~
What day could be more appropriate to talk about prayer at family births than Mother's Day. I would have come on sooner but I was spending time with my own family.
When a baby is born, it is a spiritual event. Many people say that they can feel God's presence at the time of birth. And it is an appropriate moment to pray for the baby, the mother and the rest of the family.
1.] Prayer acknowledges God's role in creating babies.
~Psalm 139:13-16
13.) For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother's womb.
14.) I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works, And that my souls know very well.
15.) My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16.) You eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed, and in Your book, they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.
Psalm 100:3
3.) Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He that made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pastor.
Psalm 121:8
8.) The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in, from this time forth and even forevermore.
2.] When you pray at a family birth you can release the baby into God's care, will and plan for his future. God never makes mistakes and you can be sure that he will guide this baby into a spiritual future, that is in God's will. This is a call to praise God.
3.] Praying while going through labor and birth, can make the birthing process easier and keep the mother calmer, praying through labor and birth, involves God in a personal way, in the birth of a child. Praise and thanks when the child is born is part of that process of involving God.
4.] Whether near or far, a Grandmother can pray for the mother and the baby who is on the way. Each person who prays strengthens the ties that make a family a unit, and specific pray is answered, with each family member who joins in.
5.] The process of bonding is a natural occurrence, but with prayer the bonding deepens and occurs with each member of the family who prays. With invested prayer, a bond is created, by and from God, to the emerging newborn.
6.] Children are a gift from God!

~PRAYING WHEN LOVED ONES DIE~
1.] Listening prayers~The most important prayers we pray during family death situations are listening prayers. Death is a time when we need to receive, when we need to hear what he has to say to us. When you are still in prayer is when you receive the answers that you seek. The only way we can find out how all sufficient God can be at times like this is to stop talking at Him--- and to let Him show us who he really is---the omnipotent God of Heaven. Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still and know that I am God."
2.] Answers from God's written word~'We do not sorrow as those with no hope.'
John 14:25 & 26
~25.] "These things I have spoken to you while being present with you."
~26.] "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have said to you."
This is one of the reasons it is so important for us to stay in God's word. When you have a death in the family you may not be able to sit down and read the Bible. Memorized scripture can bring much comfort to us, and Jesus promised us that the Holy Spirit will help us to recall what we need to.
3.] PRAYER WITHOUT WORDS~
Sometimes grief is so deep that words can not be found, we are numb with grief, making words impossible. It is at this time that God comes, not with words either, but with Himself.
4.] What believers see and God's view of death.
A believer does not see a white tunnel, or just a bright light but the glories of heaven, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6
God view of death, "Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His Godly ones." Psalm 116:15.
5.]
Thankful prayers at death.
You might say, "How can anyone be thankful at death. Remember that for a believer they are going home to meet the Lord. And Jesus has promised us some wonderful events, once we have reached heaven, "And he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death, there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain." Here are some bible verses for you to read, Acts 2:24, Hebrew 2:14, Revelation 5:8 and Revelation 8:3 & 4.
6.] VICTORY PRAYERS AT DEATH
Read these Bible verses from (1 Thessalonians 4:13 and 1 Thessalonians 4:14, 16-17.) and (Matthew 13:43).

Speaking in Tongues!
In the 60's  speaking in tongues become popular with many different denominations and with street teens. Christian Coffee Houses sprung up everywhere, and storefront churches made the scene. For the first time in a very long time the barriers came down; for awhile at least, and Pentecostals, Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists and many other denominations joined together in churches, each other's homes, coffee houses, and outings to worship the Lord together. It was truly and amazing period of time for all. All these different denominations and Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Middle Eastern Americans, immigrants and  those all around the world, businesspersons, street people, bikers, truckers, ex-drug addicts and ex-alcoholics were all receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues, witnessing in the streets of the cities, visiting each other's churches and even being baptized in lakes and ponds. We all studied the bible together and prayed together effectively in power, and worshiped the Lord together. Giving one's testimony was a very welcome and normal event. Tent revivals in the 60's and 70's were common also. The Holy Spirit was really moving. I myself was witness to many, many miracles! Even the dark forces noticed us and would follow us and question us and try to persuade us that Jesus wasn't real. Even the teens held their ground and did not sway from Jesus.
The one thing that I seemed to have missed somehow, was the necessity of worshiping in the prayer closet. (A room chosen for prayer). This is where you gather your strength to go out another day. This is where you solidify your relationship with Jesus, and learn insights. This is where you have private worship with the Lord, and where he repairs your armor that you must clothe yourself in.
Many people speak in tongues in private worship in their prayer room, and engage in deep  intercessory prayer. In this day and age we will be attacked from time to time by modern societies entrapment's, modern societies attitudes and behaviors and modern societies distractions. We will also see horrible and sad things happening. People will need our help whether they ask for help, or if we simply become aware of their situation. Sometimes we simply do not have the words we need or we do not know how best to pray, and that is when the Holy Spirit can lead us into prayer, speak for us, give us singing and music, and bring forth tongues or an unknown language, which may be of angels or of men! You can only intercede this way when you have received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER WARRIORS #4 ~ (SUMMER)~WHY GOD WANTS AND NEEDS US TO PRAY~

God wants us to pray because he has made us His children and set us up with free will. As we mature and become able to accept the responsibility, He asks us to do the spiritual work of prayer, for ourselves and others.
God has set up the conditions of free will, cooperation, communication, admittance, and commitment.
While God is all powerful, perfect, the creator of everyone and everything, able to do all things; he has elected to let us design His plan, and He allows us to have a part in His magnificent glory. He intervenes only when we ask Him to of our own free will. When we do not ask of Him, than the job of helping the human race does not get done. Neither can God put forth His glorious plan, because He has chosen to let us participate in creating His plan. So our prayer is necessary and vital to the human race.
His rules are absolute and His wisdom is infinite, yet He chose to embrace us in relationship of Father and child. We must choose to turn to Him as a small child chooses to turn to his/her parent.
At a very young age a child learns that in order for many of his needs and wants to be met, he must turn to the adults in his life and communicate. He/she does this of free will and decision. In the same way we are allowed free will to turn to our Heavenly father and communicate.
A small child sometimes chooses not to communicate, and thus deprives himself/herself of certain wants and needs. A human father can certainly guess at what a child wants or needs, such a nutrition and clean water to quench his/her thirst,  and a wise father also knows that a child has psychological, emotional and spiritual needs. Yet communication allows exact knowledge that is helpful in the situation.
a wise father encourages communication with his child, knowing that two way communication helps to develop skills used later in life, and prepares a child live successfully in his future world.
Communication creates bonding, develops a child's identity and actually develops your child's intelligence. Another amazing fact: your child will learn listening skills from your example. If you listen to your child; and others, your child will also learn to listen. It takes time though. Nothing happens over night with parenting.

God our father also wants us to grow up as spiritually mature and skilled individuals. He wants us to communicate and ask questions; seek answers, ask for help, to say please and thank-you, and to say, I love you God.
Sometimes when a child refuses to communicate, a parent has to patiently wait for them to talk again. Unless there is a serious problem; a child will eventually communicate, and when that child communicates he/she feels much better. When we communicate with God we also feel much better.
But there is an enormous problem. No matter how we try to communicate with God there is a terrible barrier, that prevents us from reaching our heavenly Father. Unlike a human father who is not perfect; our heavenly father is perfect, pure and holy. God our Father, can not be in the presence of sin. And as humans we are full of sin. We can never be perfect enough for God. So God made the decision to send us His only begotten Son, Jesus, to sacrifice His life and to take our sins upon Himself. He did this in order to become a mediator in our behalf.  He is the only way we can communicate with God the Father.
To become a part of this glorious plan, we must in faith, admit that we are sinners, ask Jesus for forgiveness, ask Jesus to come into our hearts and lives, and make a commitment to follow Jesus. This is the first prayer that God will hear from hear from you through Jesus.
Now, after asking Jesus to come into your life and heart, and making the decision to live for Jesus, you can communicate freely with our Father, God. That communication is prayer, and if you want to grow spiritually, you need to pray. God our Father has so much to teach us, but as a patient Father, He will wait for us. It's up to us to cooperate and communicate and sometimes it seems difficult; however, Jesus and the Holy Spirit will always be there to help us.

~God's Agents on
Earth~

'The Weapon of Prayer by E.M. Bounds',  'Angels, God's Secret Agents' by Billy Graham and 'God's Agents on Earth by Donna C. Matthews.
God is the head of a super heavenly agency. Some of His agents are angels and some of His agents are humans. (Us!)
Once we have committed to Jesus, and have salvation, we are employed in God's heavenly agency. Not only are we children of a loving, heavenly father, but we are also working for God as an agent. We are part of an amazing team and this is how it works. Jesus is our Savior and our mediator. He is in us, around us and part of us. We pray to our Father in Jesus name and Jesus carries our prayers to God and mediates for us. God is the head of a heavenly Kingdom and Jesus is our head.
Don't worry. Jesus is the most powerful force in the universe; however, he is also gentle, kind and loving. We are His children, and His followers. He may discipline us at times but he very much cares about our welfare.
That is why He sent us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit's job is to teach us, guide us and empower us. The Holy Spirit also convicts all people of sin. Jesus sent us a very special gift with the Holy Spirit; however, the Holy Spirit will never force Himself on anyone. We again must ask for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is part of God, just as Jesus is. They are three in one.
When you ask for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit; God's Spirit will wash over you and fill you. You will receive spiritual power and spiritual gifts; the Holy Spirit will teach you, guide you, and give you wisdom and insight; for when you discipline yourself to read the bible, you will gain spiritual insights, each insight coming as you are ready to receive it.
The Holy Spirit also does something else that is amazing. The Holy Spirit will help you to pray. You might speak in another language, or sing, or find words that you didn't have before, to pray with. We are the ones who make the decision to pray; however, when we do not know what to pray, we can ask for the help of the Holy Spirit!
So now we are the children of God; on Jesus' team of agents, with spiritual gifts and spiritual power, and both our prayer skills and communication skills are becoming more and more effective.

LISTENING!
Sometimes we are saddened and fearful because we think that God is not listening.  If you have access to a running brook or  small stream go there sometime and just quietly listen. You will hear the gentle, bubbling sounds of that running brook. When you begin making noise you can no longer hear the brook.
Sometimes God speaks to us so gently, that we need to listen quietly to what He says. He is trying to speak to us but we just aren't listening. We need to set aside time to go to our prayer closet or another quiet, private place and quietly listen. This is when the Holy Spirit will guide us, this is when God will quietly nudge our hearts, and this is when Jesus will speak to us.
We need to have quiet time in our prayer closet often, (or if you are lucky enough to have a quiet and private place~such as a running brook or somewhere similar, you can go there). We need to be open to what we our being told, and we need to meditate upon the Lord. This is when
we need to set our feet upon the "Rock", and not step into the sinking sand.
Even when everything is going well, we can not slack off. When things go well many people tend to think less about God and focus on the busy moments of life. So it is especially important to find that quiet time and to listen.
Listening to God; is like rest to our souls, only ~we are on active duty! Listening is the beginning of wisdom! Listening shows respect.  The Holy Spirit can not guide you if you are not willing.
When you are finished praying and talking to God; give God a chance to give you a reply. Spend some time quietly listening and waiting upon the Lord.
