Pledge to Eat Conscientiously

Pledge to Eat Conscientiously, for Animals and the Planet Target: YOU! Sponsored by: Care2 One of the best things you can do for the environment and for the planet is to become vegetarian, eat less meat or pay more attention to where your meat comes from. Due to the way meat is processed and transported, the meat industry accounts for more pollution than the entire transportation industry! If you think cars and planes are bad, take a deeper look into the meat industry. Animal agriculture not only produces carbon dioxide, but also methane and nitrous oxide emissions. Those three are the toxic cocktail that causes global warming. Eating 1 pound of meat emits the same amount of greenhouse pollution as driving a hummer 40 miles! As if that wasn't a good enough reason, there are many issues about the treatment of farm animals in factory farms, who are crammed into tiny cages and subjected to horrifying lives. Pledge to help our environment, our exploited farm animals, and yourself by eating less meat, and knowing where your food comes from.

"Animals are my friends, and I don't eat my friends."G.B.SHAW May 04, 2008 11:10 PM

"Many years ago, I was fishing, and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realised, 'I am killing him — all for the passing pleasure it brings me'. And something inside me clicked. I realised as I watched him fight for breath that his life was as important to him as mine is to me".told ex BEATLES SIR PAUL Mc CARTNEY

AND CONTINUES:" "If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That's the single most important thing you could do. It's staggering when you think about it'

THE WORD ' VEGETARIAN' May 04, 2008 11:14 PM

Vegetarianism: A Better Way of Life!
The word vegetarian, coined by the founders of the British Vegetarian Society in 1842, comes from the Latin word vegetus, meaning "whole, sound, fresh, or lively," as in homo vegetus-a mentally and physically vigorous person. The original meaning of the word implies a balanced philosophical and moral sense of life, a lot more than just a diet of vegetables and fruits. Most vegetarians are people who have understood that to contribute towards a more peaceful society we must first solve the problem of violence in our own hearts. So it's not surprising that thousands of people from all walks of life have, in their search for truth, become vegetarian. Vegetarianism is an essential step towards a better society, and people who take the time to consider its advantages, will be in the company of such thinkers as Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato, Clement of Alexandria, Plutarch, King Asoka, Leonardo da Vinci, Montaigne, Akbar, John Milton, Sir Isaac Newton, Emanuel Swedenbourg, Voltaire, Benjamin Franklin, Jean Jacques Rousear, Lamartine, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Leo Tolstoy, George Bernard Shaw, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, and Albert Einstein.
