How much water do I use? Each person uses an average of 33-35 gallons per day. This is 50 per cent more than we used 25 years ago.

scientific evidence that palm oil plantations in Indonesia and Malaysia, rather than preserving the environment are in fact actively destroying it. By subsidising biofuels, European governments have artificially raised demand for palm oil in Europe

Why this year April 26, 2008 10:06 AM

If Bush is so insensative why worry about legislation he would veto, its a Democratic Congress. They could pass anything, might even find some Republicans to help, then Bush is a moot point. Environmental protection was a Republican issue (actually a Rockefeller issue) maybe some of those old guys are still around although 1972 is a long time ago. We need to stop blamming and find action.

The only reason for worry this year is if the feeling is that the Ddemocrat who wins the Presidency isn't going to act.

Much has been written about the geopolitics behind the fight against global warming. But effectively stemming climate change also means persuading individuals everywhere to cut their own emissions.

Apathy and Ingoring the Problem April 26, 2008 6:51 AM

We as americans have become so apathic to the problems we face in this country. Look at the joke of Presidental candiates we are to choose from.
President Bush, in the last eight years has done more to desory, ignore the envrionment then any President on record. Idley a majorityof the Americans have allowed this to happen. To delist the Wolf, aerial killings of wolves in Alsaka, oil crisis, food issues and the list goes on. he poltical body that represents us has ignored  climate warming and the problems that come with it.
We reached a point where we can do so little to correct the mistakes and errors from the past eight years. We thought this planet would go on. We abuse it and ignore its sickness. God, entrusted us to be the caretakers of this planet, instead we have raped and pillaged with our greed. Is it too late? The outcome depends on us and waking up.

Perhaps I shouldn't admit this but I didn't become aware of the troubles in our planet until after the 2000 selection of the president by the Supreme Court. I worked for Al Gore's campaign in a state other than my own and I because curious about all the banter. In January, 2001, I started researching global warming. I listened to people tell me that it was just the natural progression of things and this had all happened before. That made me more than curious.  I began with the drilling in the drilling for oil in Anarctica and it just went from there. I got in touch with a group that was having a conference in Washington, DC September 8th through the 12th, 2001 and I was going to represent my state. I received a video of the tundra and its pristine condition. I marveled at the beauty of it and wished every person who ever thought of drilling for oil there could see this video. As I prepared for my trip, I found I had a glitch in my schedule so I didn't make the conference. Of course I would have been in DC on 9/11/01. All that aside, when I saw Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth, not one thing in that movie surprised me because of all of the research I had done.

This administration never ever addressed this on going problem of global warming until people began to raise so much hell that they had to take a look at it. That is about all they have done. Looked at it and then acknowledge it. End of their involvement!  There are still holdouts on the cause of global warming but those are the die hard neocons that disagree with just about everything.

Because we are seeking alternative energy, prices of flour and rice along with corn are esculating and because of that people are complaining every day about the shortages and their inconvience because of it. Not being able to take a deep breath of fresh unpolluted air is an inconvenience. Not having clean water to drink is an inconvenience. Weather changes such as more hurricanes with more force. Massive flooding which is already occurring is an in convenience. I saw a fictional movie some time ago called "The day after tomorrow". It was dramatic and showed just what could happen on a grand scale.

We can no longer ignore what is going on with this planet. Fuel could easily be made out of sugar cane. I would rather learn to live without sugar than to not be able to breathe. There are things that you can do personally in your own life that can help this cause. 1. replace all of your light bulbs with the flourescent bulbs. They don't heat up as much as they save energy. Recycle, Recycle Recycle. Newspapers, junk mail, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, cardboard. When you look for computer paper for your printer, buy recycled paper. It will plainly tell you on the package. Although a weeks worth of groceries will not fit in a canvas bag, insist on paper bags. Don't purchase anything that is not biodegradable ie, styrofoam. If each person just changed their light bulbs, it would have a powerful impact on global warming. I have notice that my electric bill has drastically dropped since I replaced all of my bulbs. I didn't mean to sound preachy but it is time for all residents of this planet to WAKE UP! GLOBAL WARMING IS INDEED REAL!

The potential for economic growth on Native reservations is astronomical, and of course this income is urgently needed due to the extreme poverty that currently exists on reservations. Let's make the future happen in 2008!

Hemp March 30, 2008 7:03 PM

I just heard from this link you can make fuel from Hemp. They knew it in the 30's. Back then I hear the Lumber Companies black balled it. Someone of the powers 2b must have been sold out to big oil too.
