Dear Hosts and members; I am writing this to inform you that regretfully I will being leaving group. Out of respect to you all. I did not want to just drop out. My attention right now is on my ailing father. I cannot at times be an active member of this group and I feel that is not fair to all of you. I will not stay in a group if I cannot give 100%. Please forward any petitions to me still. For I do deeply care about this group and it's cause. With all the love in my heart Marjorie aka Tiger Queen..  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

This is Jen, and , as you can tell from my profile pic, I love big cats.  I don't work in a zoo or do research for them, but I have adored them and have done things to advocate for them.  I started loving tigers in high school; however, only in the last couple of years have I felt a need to fight for them.  My love for big cats has expanded to other species so that now I love all wild cats (and even the domestic ones).  So nice to meet a group that is into big cats here.  If it is OK, I would love to post some petitions but want to know where would be the best place to do so.

Thanks again for this group!

Hello,

I'm Shaun. Does anyone know of a program from Sky TV- i think, about a man who tracked and lived with leopards as an accepted member of the cat community?

The show might have been called The Leopard Man. I have searched in vain for info for ages. If anyone has anything about this guy or websites about him , i would be very greatful.

New Members Hello February 10, 2007 9:30 AM

Hello group, am new member, glad to be able to help. A soul deep wildlife enthusiast, particularly the big cats (leopards and panthers(black) in particular. They were here long before us, they deserve our respect and admiration. The abuse weve shown them is inexcusable. Also, very active in wildlife petitions. Any new ones, come through group, let me know.

Introduction April 25, 2006 9:31 PM

Hello all. I am a volunteer at a grass roots type facility that has progressed over the years to what is today a respected leader in captive breeding programs. Through a few years of volunteering, I have found that individuals can make a difference, but it helps when they recieve community support. I have always been a simple person, not requiring a lot of things, comforts, or people. Many times I have felt lost, and unable to make a difference. The ability to help, even if that help is limited to talking to ignorant visitors that don't care, and don't want to care, gives me a sense of hope for all the world, not just exotic cats. Why? Because some people do care. They just feel helpless as I once did. A sense of hope is brought out in people when they realize that anyone can pitch in. To help a global problem succeed by helping a community grow, is what the EFBC-FCC was, and is still, built upon. Educating the masses is not easy. Fighting them is even harder though. All of the people that say "I love animals more than people", I would like to help you change that saying. Why? Because the best way to slay an enemy, is by making them your friend. We that care about animals will never win, unless we have community support. Let us work together. Mankind can do anything. We have machines circling Saturn and driving on Mars. We can fix the earth, but it takes community which means unity. Best to all, Eric B.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Well, we now have over 100 members, which is certainly something to be proud of. Do not be afraid to post and ask questions!

I know the zoo I volunteer at is very active in promoting Amur Leopard conservation and manages quite a few genetically acceptable individuals. I will try to get more information on that.

Sorry - members can actually post directly into the group sharebook themselves (I'm still figuring these things out).

So, off you go!

Welcome new members December 12, 2005 11:01 PM

I suddenly realise that there's been a jump in the number of members here at Shadows and Light (hmmm... something to do with my co-host? Thanks Kuba!).

Must admit I've been lousy at promoting this group - so you are all very welcome. Please feel free to discuss any issues you may come across and raise any suggestions as to how this group could become more effective - in any way.

I publish blogs from time to time about my encounters with leopards in the wild and link them to this group. If any of you would like to do the same, please do so. It can be about anything - observations of leopards in captivity, conditions in zoos, anyone you may have met who is involved in big cat conservation, your opinions about the state of big cat conservation, even artwork or photography - absolutely anything that helps raise awareness. It'll be gladly added to the group's sharebook.

And of course, if you feel this group is moving in the right direction, please spread the word!

Charith
