Petition against the Great British Circus! April 19, 2006 10:46 AM
Please if you agree with my sentiments sign this petition against the Great British Circus. I can see the Circus top from my bedroom window, that is how close these animals are to me at this moment. Year after year these people come here and con the public into believing that they look after those animals that they force to perform everyday. I and others know better. The local paper has run articles about them but people still go and encourage the conditions that these poor big cats, elephants, camels and others have to endure on a daily basis. I want to stop this happening here again next year and the year after that. Please support me and please help these animals!

I just checked. Getting close to 150 signatures. I had posted the link to this petition in half a dozen other groups. I'll go back this evening and bump it back up to the top!
To give you a feel for the sort of people that are associated with this circus, this is a message printed on the bottom of the posters that advertise the location of the circus itself.
"sickness and poverty to anyone who removes this poster"
I have been very pleased, and surprised at the support so far. I had hoped that people felt this strongly and obviously many do. If you need a reason to sign just imagine yourself caged for 22 hours a day but you will be taken out twice just to perform for people who do not want you to be free. They feel that you have no worth, your needs are not important. I am an important human being and you are just a worthless animal. Well there are many worthy human beings who do value your life, they do want you to get your spirit back and they will not support the exploitation of animals!

I know where the next two calls are on the circus route around this country , i am aiming to show this petition to the local press before they get there. We could well stop some people going, if we can gradually reduce their audiences then who know's?
That is how these things occur. It is much more effective (in more cases than not) to target the market for such things. People believe they cannot change the world, but they certainly can.

Over 700+ have now signed against the Great British Circus. Has I do more research I found more and more distateful things about their methods. If you haven't signed the petition please do, the longer the Big Cats are there, the longer they suffer!

Tony M. 12:17 AM Circus protesters hit by egg attack
11 May 2006
ANIMAL rights activists were pelted with eggs from a passing vehicle during a protest in Barkingside on Sunday.
Placard-waving protesters from Essex Animal Freedom had gathered by the Great British Circus in Forest Road to campaign against the use of wild animals in the shows, run by Martin Lacey.
One protester received a cut hand, as eggs were thrown from a vehicle passing the entrance on the final day of the circus.
An Essex Animal Freedom spokesman said: "Fortunately, the majority of passing motorists show their support of our protest, by sounding their horns and giving us the thumbs up."
I hope to see those 100 signatures (and more!) added by the time I get back. I'll be absent for a few days. Leaving early in the morning to go to Illinois. I'll be back and checking in next Wednesday.
Please sign if you haven't already done so. And, continue spreading the word to other groups, friends and family!
I just thought that I would give you a petition update. So far we have got 1381 signatures which I am extremely pleased about. The original target was 1000 but I was greedy when I could see that was possible so I put it up to 1500! Hopefully we will get that by Christmas.
The petition is being presented to local newspapers, media, tv before each Circus visit. They are pretty much on permanent tour throughout the year so I like to pre-warn people as to what they are about. Some newspaper editors have refused to advertise the circus in their papers and there are always volunteers who will remove their posters lol. So do sign if you haven't already done so.
I know that some of you do not think that petitions have any value at all well I have recieved notification of two petitions that have had the desired effect in the last week alone. One thing is for sure, don't sign and it definitely won't work!
Iain ~ I just bumped up the link to this petition (and added your update) in all of the groups where I had it posted. Well, I should say, "in all of the groups where I can REMEMBER having posted it"!
The circus without animals, well big cats anyway! October 11, 2006 9:30 AM
Since the petition was started against the Great British Circus I have had many helpful suggestions which have been taken on board. The landowner where the circus was held has been asked to consider other sources of revenue rather than inviting back the GBC. Another circus has been to the site since but I'm happy to tell you that the only animals used were horses and there were no complaints about their treatment by the Spanish Circus. So that is something, if you can get the revenue that they would lose by not having the circus replaced with something that does not involve any animal cruelty then I can live with that!
Good on you lain, I am over the moon that you are nearly at your target figure and hope that you get this circus closed down for good.
I would like to add, that since you started your petition, my petition ( which was already up and running, regarding this circus) has been ignored, I am now not getting any signatures.
I wish you all the best with your petition but come on Care2 members surely the more petitions signed and sent the better.
Please take a look at my petition and sign it, it is easy enough to find, all you have to do is look up Elephants circus UK, it is not much to ask of Care2 members.
If my petition fails to get anymore signatures in the next couple of days I will remove it, it is a waste of time it just sitting there and it will certainly prove to me that some people carrry more weight in what they do and say on this site.
No offence to you lain, I hope at least your petition is a winner, anything to get these poor animals out of this horrible life they are made to lead.
Also signed here. There are so many no-animal circuses like Cirque du Soleil that are just as entertaining and without the cruelty. Tigers and other animals need to remain wild--the sanctuaries are so overcrowded and all...
