Dog Adoption Corner: Young female stray has until July 6th to live - please circulate her story

Benton City, WA - In rural Central Washington, dog rescue resources are often few, and the number of stray dogs is high.  Finding homes for all of the wonderful, highly adoptive stray dogs is difficult - indeed, heartbreaking for the animal control officers that are left to carry the burden of finding homes in time.

The dog featured today has no name. She was picked up as a stray on Wednesday...she has only days to find a home. Her hold time is up on Monday afternoon (July 5) and she is scheduled for euthanasia on Tuesday, July 6.

This young dog is only 1-2 years of age. The animal control officer has described her as extremely sweet and mild mannered.

This young girl is highly adoptable. She is beautiful with her lovely brindle coloring and she has a disposition that would make her a fit for many families. Mellow and sweet - how far could you go wrong with that combination?

This sweet Lab/Pit mix has only one week to live. Can you please take a moment to circulate her information? The more people that see her sweet face, the better her chances are for finding a rescue or forever home.

If you or anyone that you know can help this lovely, young dog - please call the City of Benton City Code Enforcement at (509) 588-3322. Do not wait to call - time is of the essence.

William is a pitbull who was hit by a car and left for dead.  He has had surgery but NOW there is talk of euthanizing him.  That is just WRONG!  If you can help William it would be greatly appreciated.  He is in Lindenhurst, NY.

Here is a bit of his story:

Sweet William is exactly that, sweet. He is a Pit Bull with a very uncertain fate and we have to help him! Here is his story: He had been struck by a car and left for dead with two broken legs and multiple injuries. An animal Rescue in Long Island, New York took him in ...gave him the surgeries he needed and he was put up for adoption. Due to some unfortunate circumstances and people being neglectful of what is most appropriate for the dog, Sweet William had a couple of minor accidents and is now going to be Euthanized, unless we find another place for him to rest his head soundly. Sweet William has been through some traumatic events in his life and just needs some extra TLC, some training and baby steps. He is not aggressive by any means, he is sweet and loves attention. He certainly does not deserve death. We are reaching out to everyone, everywhere and asking for help to find this sweet boy another r escue facility, no-kill shelter or organization. He is currently in New York and time is running very short. Please pass this along to all you know no matter where they are located, time is important right now,not where, there are people ready to take him where he has to go, once a place is found. Donations are not necessary at the moment, depending on the cost of relocating him they may be helpful in the future, but for now all we need is a place for him to go. I know first hand from working one on one with him every day that he is a good dog! We cannot let another good dog die for no reason! Thank you for your help and support.   Michelle Crimmins

PLEASE SHARE SHARE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS.. and enemies if you have any...  After all he's been through he does not deserve to die now.  He's still a baby.

Thanks everyone.  I know we can do this!

The cold, snow and danger of the street, did not stop some people with no soul, to throw the helpless dog in the street. She is placed on those stairs hoping that someone will see her and will take her from there. She shake with fear to every street dog who hang around her, but she is very sociable and gentle with people, which is detrimental to her, therefore, can not cope, can not feed, not knows to look for a place to hide, even under cover, stand there and try to catch the eyes of every person she see.URSULINA  need our help as urgently! She needs a warm place, food and a family to offer her a beautiful life, but unfortunately we are at a distance of hundreds of kilometers, we hope that through your help, those that do not remain indifferent to these emergency situations, to find her accommodation, where to stay safe until she will be able to travel to us.

UPDATE On Monty...

Please forward, this message from my friend Robyn L:

Hi Everyone!

I have an update on Monty to share.

Someone went out of their way to inflict unbearable injuries upon this poor dog.  Personally, I don't understand how he lived long enough to be saved.  Monty must have a huge spirit and more love than his heart can hold because he still wags his tail when he's talked to or feels a gentle touch.

If you know someone in Santa Monica CA who might be able to be a temporary foster, please email thehuntforspacecabbage@yahoo.comIt will be 4 or 5 days only.

Update... 2 URGENT THINGS.... WE NEED A FOSTER IN THE SANTA MONICA AREA!! WE NEED DONATIONS AS MONTY'S CARE WILL COST 8k to 10k. This is his walk to surgery.. sorry about the last part. :o) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS2LrUYrRjE Please post far... and wide. Your donations are tax deductible! Monty's injuries are extensive and will require at least 2 surgeries and extensive rehab. Evaluation... His right leg: the Achilles tendon is an open wound and the tendon is snapped and is in a ball up towards the back of his knee. His left leg: 2 centimeters of his bone have been blown away and this is also an open, highly infected wound. We will try and repair both legs and are really hoping we can get one good one out of the deal. I cannot imagine the pain he must have been in! 1st surgery is done...Left leg. He had some dead bone removed and has a gap in his bone of 2 cm and has a pin and plate now..he needs a bone graft but because of the massive infection he has 1 cm of the plate still exposed and will have to have that cleaned out and flushed daily. Cannot do a bone graft in that condition. can't do a skin graft because there is no tissue to attached skin to. The skin grows back at 1 millimeter a day. The bone graft will have to wait. 2nd surgery for his right leg on Wednesday if all stays stable, they will try and use something synthetic to replace the Achilles tendon. Monty!! This poor dog was left to die in the desert with 2 broken legs and a gunshot wound in his hip. He is hospitalized, too anemic for surgery. He had a transfusion and they check his blood again to see if he has stabilized. He is under the wing of Animal Rescue Volunteers in Simi Valley... This hospitalization will be at least $2000.00 and the surgery when he has stabilized and transferred to another hospital will be at least $2000.00. We need donations to save this boy! Even in his state, he is sweet and lovable and even trying to play with the other dogs. Heartbreaking!! Please help circulate for help! http://www.arvsimi.org/Donations.html

Since that post was written Monty has been sent to a hospital that can better help with his injuries.  He has tendon injuries on top of the borken legs.  His condition is serious.

If you can find a dollar or two to help it will be greatly appreciated.  Monty deserves to walk again.

Share his story with your contacts please.  Every set of eyes brings more attention to his situation and hopefully people will feel generous and send a couple of bucks to help out.  Thanks everyone!  Robyn

About lady: Lady is an adorably young Jack Russell Terrier and Beagle mixed breed girl. She was born on Halloween and is just 7 months old. She has not been fixed yet, but is now old enough that can get done as soon as possible. Lady is great with other dogs and cats. She came from a home with children and she just loved them. She is an indoor dog and has been kennel trained. She is almost housetrained completely but needs a little more work because she has had a few accidents. She does not have food aggression. She is a little shy at first but she does warm up. She is very scared in the shelter and needs to find a home quickly. She has had a distemper/parvo vaccine and been dewormed while in the shelter. Adoption Disclaimer For any questions, please email Audree Myers at audree@co.newaygo.mi.us or call during regular business hours. The hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday between 11am and 1pm. The shelter phone number is (231)689-1867. The adoption fee is $35 and $25 will be refunded after proof of spay/neuter. State law requires you to sign a spay/neuter adoption agreement. All the animals adopted from the shelter must be fixed. We do not recommend that our dogs be adopted to homes where they will be chained up outside. The Newaygo County Animal Shelter runs on a first come basis. We cannot hold the dogs because we cannot pass up a chance for them to get a home. We do not accept any plastic cards as form of payment or out of town checks. Newaygo County Animal Shelter 78 Webster St. White Cloud, MI. 49349 (231)689-1867 Shelter Hours are: Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri. 11am-1pm. At times our shelter is forced to euthanize dogs due to space. We need your help to prevent that from happening. Remember, when you adopt from our shelter you are saving 2 dogs, the one you take into your family, and the other who is then able to stay longer in hopes they will find one too. Please do not adopt because you feel sorry for them! Adoption should be a well thought out decision, it?s a lifetime commitment.

Dear friends,

We rescued Little Willy last week from the Carson Animal Shelter. Willy is a tiny 14 yr old Pommie that was an owner surrender. He already had some health issues coming in to the shelter, but nothing that couldnt be addressed. the shelter kept this poor dog outside in a run with other dogs, no blankets and no bed. He was sleeping on concrete!  We also learned that Little Willy was not eating becasue they only had some kibble out there for him and he was intimidated by the other dogs. he developed a cough and the shelter put him on cough medicine while all the while pneumonia was brewing!

Well we were treating him a week ago for a mild case of pneumonia but this morning he took a major turn for the worse and the only way to save his life was to hospitalize him, where he will remain on oxygen for the next 48 hours and a nebulizer. By the time we got him to the vet his toungue and gums were actually turning blue.  He is getting3 different strong anitibiotics with iv fluids. this poor little guy is not eating and so he is being syringe fed. I know Little Willy wants to live and we feel he does have a good chance, cause his little tail keeps wagging. He knows he is loved and he knows we are pulling for him....He is such a good little boy and is so deserving, and has had such a hard life so far, we just want to give him good fighting chance.

His exrays look pretty bad and we were told he would have to be hospitalized for at least 4-5 days. At this time the estimated costs stand at around $2600-$3000

If anyone can make a small tax deductible donation our pay pal account is planetheart@aol.com or can be sent to:

Also donations can be made through Studio City Animal Hospital 818-769-1338 under our account Julie Chadwick/The Pepper Foundation. for LIttle Willy'' treatment.

PALMDALE, CA - Nicole Reist

Please SHARE! Thank you.

I NEED HELP!!!

****Counting these dogs, I have seen over 30 strays in Palmdale/Lancaster in the past month****

I grabbed these 2 dogs from a desert road in the middle of nowhere.
Now that they are not in defense mode, they are VERY sweet dogs, and VERY much enjoying affection and attention.

They are:
#1. Large, tri-color shepherd mix, intact male. Looks to be about 3 or 4 maybe?
#2. Medium black lab mix (a bit of brindle markings coming through on her legs and feet) female, young adult.

After I got them home: They seem to be pretty mild mannered and mellow, and okay with being on leashes. They are very affectionate and friendly, especially the little girl, who is a leaner. They relished the affection. So they are  in a horse corral until other arrangements can be made for them. I cannot keep them. I'm a live-in manager at a group home for adults with developmental disabilities, and am not supposed to bring dogs home.

I am worried that they will insist I take them to the Lancaster shelter, which is NOT ideal. High kill, extremely overcrowded and understaffed. PLEASE HELP!

Owner Release - (#161) "Rollie"Retriever/ Shep mix (poss Gordon Setter), male. About 11+ years old. Owner noted he is an inside dog, not good with very young children because he is frightened by them and not good with other dogs but seemed all right walking with the male
beagle. Appears to be a quiet senior dog, very good on leash, seems to be a nice dog. No vet records available.  Was surrendered by owner's grandson, grandson doesn't care if he goes to research. Available immediately.

This poor dog is in Gratiot MI but would have transport to Chicago area if rescued!

Has  $100 sponsorship.............please please please contact Marie
Several cats will go to research if not rescued also!!   People are trying to end this practice.............

Can you help us? We are at OCAS... a kill shelter, and we are running out of time!

Subject: FW: Orlando bring the tissues-- so incredibly heartbreaking- 2 great dogs abandoned - owner passed away- help!

These two certainly deserve a great home, and possibly together. I know there are many out there who love seniors. maybe these two could grace your home for the next few years..Please cross post..

Both dogs are sweet as pie. From what I was told:
A171723- used to be a search and rescue dog for the Sheriff's office. great with kids, house broken, very tolerant.
A171721- used to be a circus dog. she is house broken , great with kids, etc.

Both dog were super when I picked them up and during processing. Their only draw back is there age, 10 Y/O. Anything you can do would be great.

I am sending this email to each of you in the hopes that maybe someone on Care 2 could either adopt a doggie or two or know of someone/rescue who could adopt some of these doggies.  The rescue has to shutdown because of lack of money to keep going (which I'm sure there are a lot of them with the economy today).  Please help by crossposting this email to as many people as you can and if anyone I send this to is interested, please help in any way you can!

Thanks one and all!

Jeri Capaccione

On 3/14/10 I sent the email below. Just thought I’d send
an
update to let everyone know we are STILL in dire need of
placing dogs. As of 3/24/10, we have sent ONE big dog to
Middle TN Boxer Rescue, 2 medium sized dogs to Camp
Companion in MN, and 2 small dogs to Small Dog Rescue of MN,
for a total of 5 dogs. We have commitment from North Shore
Animal League
to take 2 next week, and 3 others are going to
Small Dog Rescue of MN on 3/ 27. We have NO prospects for the
remaining 60 dogs. I am beginning to become very concerned
for the remaining dogs. We have not had much response (some,
but not much) offering to help our dogs. I will not be able
to afford to feed them once I no longer am receiving a
paycheck and only receiving early retirement benefits
beginning 6/1/10. I also won't be able to afford my
current residence and must find a cheaper place to live. I am not
concerned for myself or my own personal dogs, I will somehow
get by with them but i am concerned for the other rescue dogs
here. After having rescued them and kept them in hopes of
finding a forever home, it appears their chances are growing
dim and that my heart is breaking. These dogs have a
deadline just as if they were in a shelter except the
reason is that I simply cannot afford to feed them past the end of May.

I won't even be able to afford to have them
euthanized($25 per dog). I just don't know what to do! These are indeed dark days and seem to be getting darker.
I understand that the economy has a lot of people down, but
I am hoping if just 60 people (out of how many million?!) in
the whole United States could take just ONE dog all of
them could be saved. Yeah, I know wishful thinking but I
have never been one to give up easily! Since I am not working, I
am willing to transport a fair distance as long as the
receiving rescue or adopter is willing to pay for my gas.
We deeply appreciate and thank those that have already
stepped up to help our dogs. We also would like to thank
those in advance for considering helping our dogs!

Please take a look at our pet list here:
http://www.petfinde r.com/pet- search?shelterid =TN62&preview= 1
, and see if there are any dogs your organization could take
into rescue or might know of someone who would adopt one of
our dogs.

Please, if you can,please help!

Ratchet Needs Rescue ASAP!

Ratchet has been waiting on his rescue for weeks! He sits by his kennel door and watches life go by, waiting on one of the passing people to take him home. We know Ratchet's original owner, but they never came for him despite being contacted. Poor Ratchet was an outdoor animal, probably chained. He is a gentle giant with people. He loves to lay his big head in your lap! Look at those eyes! He is a laid back fella- you can pinch him, pull his tail- he doesn't mind- he just wants attention. And he's a leaner Ratchet did well with a female dog today- he was very excited to meet her! He whimpered until he got to rub noses with her. He does pull on a leash- he will need some training. But what can you expect for a fella that's had to watch his entire life from a chain or kennel?
Ratchet would be $80 to adopt (includes neuter surgery). Please contact JJ immediately if interested zjlb84@goldmail.etsu.edu 423-895-2044
His time is almost up!

JJ Blevins
They've kept him for atleast a month. This is a very long time at a high kill shelter. Can't say how much longer he will be there, depends on cage space.
Please keep crossposting.

Update on Mary Jane: In a kill shelter. She is lonely and scared.

I just received this about Mary Jane:

I was over Amanda's house yesterday (her temp foster mom) getting some stuff to Amanda for the fetchapalooza event in ABQ, NM this weekend & saw Mary Jane. When I got to the house she was hanging out in her crate. When she saw me & I said hello, her tail was wagging. I cannot believe that she remembered me from the shelter when I took her pictures & worked with her there! With her foster dog Memphis  & temp foster mom, Amanda, she came out & allowed us to pet her. She even cupped her face into my hand. She allowed my husband to give her pets too. She did not stay out too long, and retreated into the bathroom. (Acting like a pup chewing on something .. lol) She is slowing coming out of her shell. She will need to be in a foster home that can continue to work with her, and let her know she can be a dog.

Jonsey Desperately Needs Donations for Medical Treatment
4 years ago
"Jonsey" was found by Atlanta Police Officers in the middle of Jonesboro Rd on the evening of April 15th.  He had been struck by a car, and was laying in the middle of the road with severe injuries, unable to walk.  There were several teenagers throwing stones and kicking the puppy, as he laid helplessly in the road.  The officers needed help immediately, and contacted the Atlanta Animal Ambulance to have the puppy rushed to an emergency veterinarian.  The AAA transferred the injured puppy at no charge, but his vet bills have been rising, despite the discounted rates that were provided by Animal Emergency Center of Decatur & Village Vets of Decatur.
Animal Action Rescue, a 501-C non-profit animal rescue group (http://www.animalactionrescue.org/) has taken custody of Jonsey's recovery process.  They are in desperate need of funding, and cannot continue to provide Jonsey with all of the care he needs without further funding.

We ask you to PLEASE donate a tax deductible contribution to help save this puppy.  100% of your donation will go directly to his recovery.

Right now, Jonsey is in stable condition and can eat and drink on his own.  He has suffered a pelvic fracture that will require surgery.  Any donation - no matter what the size, would be greatly appreciated.  We are doing everything we can to save this puppy and provide him with the surgery.

There are 3 ways to safely donate to save Jonsey:

Through Paypal:

Directly to his ER bill and ongoing vet care:

Animal Emergency Center of Decatur
217 North McDonough St.
Decatur, GA  30030
(404) 371-9774

The Village Vets of Decatur
217 N. McDonough St.
Decatur, GA  30030

All donations will be applied directly to Jonesy's vet bill.

Puppy from Arkansas

Just to let you all know, the puppy from Arkansas that is posted here has been to the vet.  His new mom sold her husbands computer to get the money.  Also lot's of people from Care2 volunteered $.  Thank you to all who responded.

The puppy had puppy strangles.  Also boils all over it's body that the vet said might have come from another dog biting it.  I don't want to even think how that happened.

But he is going to be fine.

THESE PRECIOUS DOGS DESERVE MORE THAN THEY HAVE GOTTEN.

Noonie is a 4 yr lab/shep mix.  The female Red, is an 8 yr  hound mix, blind with cataracts. Their owners ABANDONED these two and Noonie acts as Red's guardian!!! Noonie acts as her seeing eye dog and keeps her safe...Red is dependent on him! They cannot be separated! Noonie's loyalty to red will probably cost him HIS LIFE!!!  These two are on DEATH ROW because of lack of interest and the shelter is FULL/NEEDS SPACE!!!   Can YOU be their SPECIAL SOMEONE???

I WOULD HATE THIS PAIR TO BE EUTHANIZED BECAUSE THEY AREN'T PUPPIES OR YOUNG OR CUTE.

Shelter is always at capacity as it is a regional shelter serving 4 Kentucky counties. All animals have limited time. Don't delay, contact us if you see an animal you wish to adopt. Time is of the essence! Shelter is open Tuesdays thru Fridays from 10:30 to 4:30 and Saturdays from 10:30 to 1:00. Closed Sundays and Mondays. Shelter is very rescue friendly; transportation help is limited. 270-887-4175. Thanks for helping our animals! Adoption fees are $49.00 for dogs and puppies and $44.00 for cats and kittens. If the animal you are adopting is spayed or neutered, the fees are reduced!

This CRUEL, TORTUROUS JERK continues to walk the face of the earth without having to answer for what he did to this poor, defenseless dog!!! WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! DONATIONS NEEDED NOW!! No amount is too small!! I cannot imagine what this innocent dog has had to endure!! Here's the story in a nutshell....... as told by Shelly of DOUBLE DOG RESCUE (Southern Chapter in Memphis TN) My cousin works downtown Memphis, TN in a horrible area. This old man comes to his work everyday to dig through the dumpsters looking for scrap metal to sell. This sweet dog followed this man everywhere, The dog was a stray that just took up with this old man. The man walks most places and my cousin would watch this man walk in the center of the median in the road and this dog followed him everywhere. No one else could touch the dog. One day not long ago, the old man came to my cousin's work and the dog was not with him. My cousin asked where the dog was and the man started crying and told my cousin that one of the drunk neighbors a few doors down severely beat the dog with a tire iron. This evil, spawn of Satan snatched him out from under the old mans house and held him and beat the crap out of him with the tire iron. My cousin said the old man can barely afford to feed his family. The old man said the dog was his best friend, but he knew that he could not pay for a vet and it was not safe around his area for him. My cousin called me and I said bring him to me. So here we are! Founder is heartworm positive as well, he had to have a blood transfusion also. Once he gets better we will treat him for heartworms and get him neutered. Shelly We need to raise about $1000 to help cover Founder's medical costs-- any and all donations are so appreciated!! Founder had emergency surgery to repair the damage to both his back legs and is recovering at the Snowden Grove Animal Hospital. Lily- a beautiful Bull Terrier NEEDS a HOME....

4-19-10      (PLEASE FWD/CROSS-POST FAR & WIDE)

Can someone help poor lily a 5 yr old bull terrier
Lily is a beautiful all white Bull Terrier. She was a throwaway mom, the vet said lily must of had at least six litters in her lifetime. She is about five years old. She was dumped into the city shelters and found in the bronx walking around the cold streets. She was severely starved and has horrible mange. It will take months of medication to knock all those nasty little mites. She weights 28lbs and needs to gain some weight. Right now Lily is at a vet where she is under quarantine and getting the proper medicine. The rescuer took lily out of the shelter and is now trying her hardest to care for her medically along with other Bullies. Can someone please help poor little Lily. She has lived five years or breeding just so someone can make money on her only to be dumped after her service. It doesn't matter the amount, whatever you can give will be appreciated. Lily deserves the best care and a good life. Thanks to all for sending good "vibes" Lilly's way! Anyone wishing to help with Lilly's vet and boarding bills can mail donations to Big Apple Bull Terrier Rescue, P.O. Box 3215, New York, NY 10008-3215. There is also a PayPal button link on our website home page: www.BigAppleBullies.com (scroll to the bottom of page). Or email us privately and we can give you the name and address of the vet clinic, if you prefer to donate to them directly. You can also become a fan of Big Apple Bull Terrier Rescue. thanks so much!

Lilly’s original shelter shots made her look reasonably good, but boy, they must have had her smokin’ something! She is not a happy camper. She was diagnosed with sarcoptic mange (contagious to other animals) which made us re-consider sending her to foster...

Hi! My name is Peanut. I was rescued from Lied Animal Shelter. I was surrendered and deemed
unadoptable because I needed expensive surgery on my leg. My foster mom took me home and raised all
the money s...o I was able to have surgery and now I’m on the mend and looking for a place to call my own!
I’m housetrained, crate trained, neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and even obey basic
commands, whatever all that means! I did have a few accidents in the house in the beginning but only
because it was all new to me. Now I know just where to go and even know how to tell my mom.
I love everyone I meet, love to bask in the sun but my favorite place is right next to my person-always! I
do need to take it slow for a bit longer on my “new” leg and sure do need to get my teeth cleaned-but doc

URGENT- SWEETIE & WINNY NEEDS HOMES

4-16-10

 Here's Sweetie:

Sweetie was tied to a tree and high school punks were stoning her before a woman intervened and took her to safety.  She is with a foster right now but as I understand it she cannot stay there very long.

If you have room in your heart and home please think about Sweetie.

If you are full up at your house, then please, share this message.

It would be a travesty if Sweetie is left only with memories of people being horribly cruel.

Death by stoning is more of a process than an event. Once the victim is well restrained, the attack begins. The initial blows will cause pain to the victim. The susequent accumulation of blows will, in addition to causing pain, destroy tissues and break bones. The amount of agony the victim endures before death will depend in part on the attackers' strategy. In the case of Sweetie, the attackers were not able to carry their plan to its end; they were interrupted by a woman who was so horrified at the sight of high school students stoning a dog that she stormed out of her apartment and managed to rescue this Mastiff mix.
Sweetie had been tied to a tree for three days before she was stoned. Even at the malnourished weight of 76 lbs., she would have been able to chew through the leash or break it. But, hungry and thirsty, she remained by the tree, where you can imagine her hopefully watching for her person to return to untie her and to take her home.
Instead, she was stoned. And then rescued. And then returned to the tree in the park because her rescuer couldn't keep a dog in her apartment. Then, Theresa found Sweetie in the park but she could never find the puppies who were obviously born very recently. Given Sweetie's experience, one can't imagine much good for the newborn puppies.
Sweetie has treated Theresa's dogs with all the ease you'd expect from a nice family member, and she has really touched Theresa's heart. But, three dogs is more than Theresa can manage, so Sweetie is looking for a great foster or a home. This is urgent. Theresa cannot keep Sweetie much longer.
Sweetie is HW+ and has been treated for tape- and hookworms and had a rabies vaccination. Please contact Theresa cell at 713-498-1663 or at 2005UhCoog@gmail.com.

UPDATE:

Hello everyone!
If you are recieving this email it's because you expressed an interest in helping the white sad and frightened female pit bull/American Bulldog from the Lovington, New Mexico Animal Shelter.

I pulled this girl, who we have named Mary Jane, from the shelter toda...y. This is what I found today:

Physical condition
Upon initial physical inspection, she's white with brown brindle patches over her left ear. She's believed to be about 11 months old to 1 year old. She's got a slight underbite. I also looked at her left eye and noticed that the white of her left eye is bloody from some sort of blunt force trauma (punch to the face maybe?). She's not as chubby as she looks in the photo but a reasonable 60 pounds. She's also covered in fleas and ticks.

Veterinary inspection
I took her for vaccinations and a general exam to Great Plains Veterinary Clinic {575-392-5513} in Hobbs, NM. She was in decent physical condition and Dr. Kuitu confirmed that she has had some sort of trauma to the eye by no damage was seen to the function of the eye. Her heart rhythm was good and she got all three vaccinations.

Boarding placement (temporary)
Because of her ticks, I decided to drop her off at Hobbs Animal Clinic {575-392-5563} for a bath and dip, drontal deworming, and a spay in Thursday. Plus, I wanted to see how she reacted to people in another less stressful setting like the shelter she was at. The boarding staff is always really good to tell me if they see something positive or negative with the dog before I bring her to my home where I have a small child and other dogs with different levels of dog tolerance.

General Temperament
Scared to death around people but relaxed around other dogs. Certainly not DA. She did allow me to physically touch her, carry her, pull her out of the crate without even a sound. So while she is fearful, she has not presented herself as a fear biter in any situation that she was put in today. I heard and have witnessed that generally when dogs are scared of people, they are very bonded to other dogs.

She was in a kennel with a Boxer mix and they shared one big bowl of food so I do not believe at this time she is a resource guarder with food with other dogs.

I really hate to put so much pressure on this dog for an evaluation because I believe she just needs time with a patient person willing to do trust building exercises with her. I think also someone with other dogs that are stable that could help show her the ropes with people is a good situation for her.

Kathleen had said that this dog was chained up in someone's backyard who abandoned her there when they moved and animal control had to go and remove her from the home. Her spirit is broken as I am sure she is a very sensitive dog as the bullies are. Plus, if someone did punch her in the face (only speculation), that has not helped at all with her trust in man kind.

What does this dog need?
- A secure spot in rescue /home within the next two weeks. I am leaving for Alabama around May 1 for a month and she does not have a place here. I am trying to get out of rescue temporarily because my husband and I are moving across the country.

- Donations to help pay her vetting/boarding costs:
http://hobbsddbbillboard.chipin.com/mary-jane
These donations will fall under Dogs Deserve Better, a 501c3 organization dedicated to ending 24/7 chaining and/or penning of dogs. Any extra amount from her Chip In will go with her to rescue or will help cover costs of transport.
Her veterinary care will either be done at Great Plains Veterinary Clinic or Hobbs Animal Clinic and these two places can provide reference for me if needed.

- Once she does have a secure spot in rescue/forever home placement, we will need a transport coordinator to oversee her transport.

Please feel free to post this info as a note on Facebook and put me down as her contact since she is in Dogs Deserve Better care. PLEASE understand that I can NOT keep this dog. We are in a part of the country where adoptions are very low and we have to send dogs off 5-6 hours away so they get a chance at adoption.

Thank you!

I went & did a quick eval. She is probably around a year or so old. She is frightened, but not aggressive. She has obviously never been on a leash. She cowers to noise, so she is not deaf. She lays down when scared & does not show aggression. She allowed me to pet her, shy on the paws, but I put out my hands in a a cuff shape & she allowed herself to trust me & completely relax herself in my palms. (put pressure on them to let me know she was relaxed)

She was abandoned by her owners. They moved without her. The shelter is giving me an extra day... until I get some more networking responses.

The dog has had little to no human contact, has lived alone. I believe was chained since young & left behind in their backyard after the owners moved away. The animal control officers had to trap the dog in order to obtain it.
It does not growl, does not make any sharp quick moves, simply shy away.

Thanks for posting so much information around for this dog & doing some research. I did not have high hopes for the dog, as most shelters/fosters, etc are so overwhelmed. If you hear anything lemme know. Thanks so much for your help!

Info on these 2 precious babes…who grew up together and would LOVE to stay together.

Gorgeous Yaka is a 4 year old male with a great personality, and an absolute joy! He is great with people male/female and kids. He is a very social guy and plays well with other dogs. he is fully house broken (very occasional accident) and he is OK unattended inside the house. He weighs around 100 lbs, is neutered and microchipped. he is good on a leash and loves to go for hikes but has no problem laying around and being lazy. Yaka is a very sweet dog. He is good with children, people, puppies and all dogs. Of the two, he seems to have the least wolf-like behavior. In the pictures, he is the bigger of the two.

Sweet, Pretty Lola is a 3 year old female, very sweet disposition and a loving girl, who needs a lot of exercise and a big yard, well secured to burn off her endless energy.

Lola is also GREAT with people, but will be aggressive with dogs that she doesn't know. That being said she almost always gets over it a wants to play. she just needs to be introduced in the right way., but she can be with larger dogs only, no smaller wuffers/animals. Lola plays too rough for smaller dogs, and will always be aggressive to them.

The only dogs Lola seems submissive to are German Shepherds, which may be explained by the fact that she spent a lot of time with them as a puppy and the fact that she has German Shepherd in her.

Lola is a typical wolfdog, and must be in escape proof containment…Lola has more wolf-like tendencies that Yaka does. As typical of wolfdogs, she will try to dig out of the yard, hop lower fencing, etc. High fencing with hotwire or lean ins required.

Lola has torn out window screens ..to get out of the house, as she basically will do anything she can to get out and explore. This is remedied by not leaving her inside unattended, and giving her a nice big yard to burn off energy with Yaka…running & romping around all day will tire her out! She is an active, fun loving girl! Like any large breed…Lola needs a big yard for her daily exercise, so she can run & chase about. Romping in a large yard with Yaka all day will burn off that energyJ!

Lola loves being indoors too, but best not left in the house unattended. She needs a secure yard, with a warm wuffer house for when her owners are not home, and will be there to greet you with wags and kisses when you get home, and ready to come inside for her dinner!

Lola is trustworthy in the house, but does get in the trash if it is accessible, so we recommend a trash can with a secure top on it. She is great on the leash and loves hiking…she’s a great hiking buddy! (But she will lunge at a strange dog or animal on the trail if it appears...so she needs a hiking harness to keep her secure & safe. as Lola is not friendly to strange animals).

Pretty Lola is spayed and micro chipped. Lola is basically housebroke...but will occasionally mark or have an accident (again….best to leave her ou

Sally is still in need of a permanent home or at least a foster. She is out of Lied, so not in danger of being euthanized, but she is still in a kennel and not doing well at all in that environment. They've had to put a cone on her because she's starting to lick herself.

She is very sweet and gets along with other d...ogs.

If anyone has room in their home and their heart for Sally, please let me know.

Thank you all in advance.

Nigel needs a second chance at life!

4-8-10

Hi, My name is Nigel & I'm in desperate need of a loving home.

Nigel was recently rescued from a local euthanizing shelter. Shortly after his arrival at UAAF, Nigel’s foster home noticed that he was having difficulty going to the bathroom. The vets at Mountain View diagnosed him with a ‘erineal hernia’ (separation of the pelvic muscles from his anal sphincter). He needs a $1000 surgery to help correct this problem and we need your help! Nigel is one of hundreds of “special needs” animals rescued by the Animal Advocacy Foundation every year. Many of these animals require extensive and ongoing veterinary care. Please help us continue to provide animals like Nigel with the medical care they need and deserve! U.A.A.F. specializes in the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of homeless animals.
Please help us continue our lifesaving efforts! Your donation is tax-deductible. Thank You!

SENIOR DOGS LOST OWNER & HOME - URGENT

Subject: EIGHT SENIOR DOGS LOST OWNER & HOME - URGENT - URGENT Baltimore, MD

The owner was hospitalized last Friday. So sad she passed away last night leaving behind eight senior dogs. They are frightened and confused wondering why they aren't at home. Unfortunately there is no family to take the dogs, they need rescue's help desperately!! They will be euthanized if rescues don't step up to help save them. Below are a list of the dogs in dire need of saving.

All are spayed/neutered - and will be UTD if rescued.

Esther - border collie mix - black/white - 5yrs.

Pearl   - poodle/terrier mix - tan - 14yrs.

Pete    - lab mix - black - 11yrs.

Kathy  - pit bull mix - white/black 10yrs

Elaine  - retriever mix - yellow - 11yrs.

Dale    - lab mix - black/gray 13yrs

Chip   -  lab mix - black/gray 12yrs

Floyd (not pictured) american bulldog mix - white/tan 6yrs.

They all appear to be friendly, gentle dogs. Their lives don't have to end in a shelter on a concrete floor. My gosh! Can it be too much to ask that their final days be spent surrounded with love and attention? Thank you!

Hello!
I work for the Humane Society of Greenwood as a rescue coordinator and in animal care. One of our animal control officers just recently turned in a young dog with an old burn injury. It is healing even though it has gone without treatment for quite sometime. Though, she is beginning to scratch it a lot because it is itching and uncomfortable to her. We're giving her a vitamin supplement with her food to help and she went to a vet check this afternoon. Her name is Michelle and she is 4 months old. She is in need of relocation due to our facility being overcrowded. If you could help her out we would be very grateful!
I have attached a picture of her and please keep in mind it Is a a rather bad injury and she will probably always have scars from it but it is healing and she is none less a very sweet little girl. You may email me back or give me a call at 864-554-0461.

The animals at Belcher’s place are desperate for help. This man is guilty of all we hate, from a puppy    mill/neglected dogs - to hungry and injured horses.  He is a horse trader and we all know what this means.  We’ve been after Belcher for a while and we are working hard to encourage law enforcement to take action and put Belcher out of business, once and for all time. We are desperate for CALLS and letters to the phone numbers and e-mail addresses below.  Letters and calls by the thousands, PLEASE. One horse has been standing on three legs for nobody knows how long.  Thank you.

PLEASE CROSS POSTAND TAKE A MOMENTTO WRITE AN E-MAIL.BELCHER HAS A REPUTATION!URGENT: Injured Horse Needs Your Voice!

For months, PETA has heard allegations of horses suffering at Gary Belcher's property on Centerville Road in Prichard, Wayne County, W.Va. Reportedly, Belcher is a horse trader, and at any given time, dozens of animals—many in very poor condition—languish at his facility without veterinary care. The Wayne County Sheriff's Department is aware of Belcher, and we're told that officers have visited his property many times. But the allegations keep pouring in to PETA headquarters!

Outraged residents are now reporting an injured horse at Belcher's facility who is in dire need of help. We're told that this animal can only use three of his legs and that he has been seen either hobbling about miserably or lying down in the mud. What's worse, our complainants say that the horse has been out of sight since yesterday! This has been reported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, but we've been unable to learn if the horse's whereabouts have been determined or if he's received any help. He needs your voice now!

Please contact the Wayne County Sheriff's Department and politely ask that officials find this horse and secure his safety.

Terri, a lot of times the information continues to circulate long after the dog has been adopted, rescued, or PTS. I feel the information you got is probably accurate, however, adoptions and rescues do sometimes fall through. The only way to know for sure is to contact them again.

There must be a mistake somewhere because I contacted these people about Blue last week when he first hit this page and offered to adopt him but was told he had already been adopted.

Can you find out if this is true or not?  If he has been placed then he is a lucky guy indeed, if he hasn't, then I want to continue to work with them to adopt him.

He's a Real Trooper & Trooper needs a Home
4 years ago

3-31-10    (CROSS-POST FAR & WIDE)

It's about as cruel as it gets. Last month, a pit bull owner in Philadelphia poured rubbing alcohol on his 5-month-old puppy then set him on fire while his children watched.

The burns covered the pet's torso, neck and stomach. One ear was nearly burned off and the other disfigured; his eyes were ulcerated.

"The dog, who we renamed Trooper, is doing amazingly well after such an unspeakable act," Kim Saunders, vice president of shelter outreach at Petfinder.com, tells PEOPLEPets.com. "He made his children hold the dog while he set him ablaze. Fortunately, the man is in jail."

The 33-year-old Philadelphia man allegedly warned his children if they told anyone about what he did to their dog, he would do the same thing to them. When the kids told this story to a school counselor, the SPCA was called and representatives went to their house. They found a charred rug, bed and dog.

"Animal Alliance took Trooper and put him with a nurse in foster care who has done an incredible job of caring for him," Saunders tells PEOPLEPets.com. "Trooper was given topical and pain medication and lots of fluids. We are so happy that he can now see out of both eyes. And he weights 40 pounds."

The man was arrested and charged with arson, cruelty to animals, endangering the welfare of a child and other counts. Previous charges against him include aggravated assault and firearms counts, according to published reports. He is awaiting trial.

When Saunders heard about this story she offered to foster Trooper, who is now living with her in New Jersey. She says the puppy has a great personality and is friendly to everyone despite what happened to him.

"He loves people and has no emotional scars after that horrible experience," Saunders says. "He snuggles up to my friends when they come over and just goes to sleep. He is incredibly resilient."

Trooper was neutered last week, and vets say he has scars on his body, but he is doing fine with no long-term damage.

"We are looking for a loving home for Trooper so he can move on with his life after suffering through such an ugly past," Saunders tells PEOPLEPets.com. "But for now, I am so happy to have him with me. He loves toys and we have a great time playing fetch."

If you are interested in adopting Trooper, visit Petfinder.com.

STRAY DOGGIE NEEDS A HOME

3-23-10    (Received Message from a Friend, PLEASE FWD/ CROSS-POST Far & Wide)

Dear friends,

A month ago I found a doggie, three months old outside the block of flats where I live. It was so hungry and skinny, one could count its ribs.I took him up in my flat, yea it's a male one, fed him, gave him a bath and took him to the vet for pills and vaccinations. First think Monday morning, I contacted the local animal shelter and guess what. They told me they can't have him as they have 70 puppies already and that if he is 3 months old he can survive as a stray. So much about animal shelters in my area.!! I can't keep him, I live in an 80 square metres flat along with my dog -mind you jealous of the newcomer-, my cat and my hamster. The tenants of the block are not so much of animal lovers and if they realize I got another dog it will be trouble for me and pets. I placed an ad on my facebook page, on the shelter's facebook page, ads on the vets' windows plus the petshops. I got five people asking about him so far but not interested in adopting him because he is to become a big dog and he is not of a special breed!! So much of animal lovers too!!! I hate to leave him in the streets again, he is 4 months old now, very playful and naughty as all puppiea are, very cute too. He looks like a German shepherd dog only he is not a breed at all. If he was he might have had a chance to be adopted by a "so called" animal lover, you know the kind they love only spesific breeds only spesific kind of dogs. Please forward my message to Greek friends of yours in hope I find a home for Barkie. I can be contacted at mobile: 6974514012 any time Ask for Sophia

Pumpkin needs a Home

3-21-10

               ( Cross-Post Far & Wide Please)

A Sweet dog, named Pumpkin. Pumpkin
is a Cattle Dog/Pittie mix that a neighbor of mine found several months ago. She
found her roaming the dessert in Mesquite while on a trip there and stayed
several extra days to try and find her home. The hotel staff    said they
believed she was dumped because she had been roaming the hotel grounds for quite
a while. My neighbor brought her home and care for her, however she has
allergies and poor Pumpkin isn't allowed indoors.
I would love to take her in and foster her however she does not seem to get
along well with cats, although she seemed fine with my three dogs. She does
great with children, we have had her around kids 14 months old and up and she
loves them. Some rescues have tried and help us little by allowing us to bring
her to adoption events however she does not do well at them. I think it is to
much stress for her and she acts aggressive which we know the sweet girl isn't.
Sorry for the lengthy message, if you can help at all I would greatly
appreciate it. She has been fully vetted , spayed, micro-chipped, vaccinated,
had a fecal. She weighs about 45 lbs. Please help find Pumpkin a home, or
rescue!

Feel free to e-mail or call, at 702-255-5304, any time. Thank you in advance for
any help.

Many Thanks,
Debbie Englert

I'm going to make another plea for Babylove. This is a great dog - loves people, loves other dogs, even has her Canine Good Citizen cert. - but being kenneled for over a year now is beginning to take it's toll.  She's still the same sweet girl but is becoming increasingly anxious.

She needs a home. Please, anyone, everyone, help us find that home.

We, and most particularly Babylove, would be so appreciative!!

Emergency situation in shelter in North Carolina-animals are abused-need out

This is a letter from a rescuer who went to the Robeson County Shelter in North Carolina and met with the abuser Jeff Bass.
(she has left her email for more info and there is info on hope for paws board as well) These is her account below:
It is with dismay that I am writing you regarding the inhumane and obvious abuse transpiring at the Robeson County Animal Shelter conveniently located on landfill/city dump property.
As I entered the Robeson County Animal Shelter on March 8, 2010, it was apparent that the facility had been doused and scrubbed with bleach. From the onset, the bleach fumes burned my eyes and stung my nose.
The atmosphere was somber and mimic a funeral parlor. Most areas were dark and dim except the area where the manager and staff were seated. You could literally feel death blowing in the air and the animals knew it. Their barks sounded more li ke screams and cries for help as I walked by their chain linked coffins.
While I was forced to select the few lives I could afford to save, no one seem to care that one of the dogs appeared to be in the midst of having a seizure or some sort of medical emergency. It trembled all over as its eyes rolled into the back of his head. When asked what was wrong with the little fellow, the volunteer stated that it was just cold even though it was a 60 degree day.
But that is just one of many happenings that lit the fire under my feet. After the shelter manager, Jeff Bass, manually completed each of my rabies vaccination certificates, he walked down the corridor and into each cage to retrieve my adopted pets. As he walked into each cage the animals immediately began to tremble, urinated and defecated on themselves as Mr. Bass brutally grabbed them by their necks before walking them down a one to two minute walkway, while he continued to dangle them in mid air by their necks . Surprisingly, the other animals that were not being adopted, that were laying on the cold bleached concrete floor, had a reaction to Mr. Bass' presence as well.
As he walked pass some of their cages they began to corner themselves in the back of their confined areas before they too began to shake, urinated, loose their bows as well as their breakfast. It was not only stomach turning to watch but also a tear jerker. Note: some of the animals that he had dangling by their necks were 45 - 50 pounds, large adult dogs. Mr. Bass practically strangled them during the walk back to his desk to administer the rabies vaccination.
Mr. Bass' insensitivity and cruelty didn't stop there as he delivered the final blows to my dogs mental stability. I could not believe what my eyes were witnessing as Mr. Bass practically stabbed each of my dogs with the rabies vaccination syringe. His technique was so rough and unprofessional, that in my humble opinion, he was hitting bone each ti me he injected them with the needle.
No one shows these animals any love or attention working at this facility. They appear to dislike the animals altogether. The animals are so grateful to see the rescue workers or a new face. They recognize that they may have a chance to live each time they hear a new voice. Lastly, this facility only accepts cash or checks.
There is no cash register. Ms. Bass collects most of the adoption fees in cash before securing it in his pocket then he writes you a receipt from a receipt book that anyone could purchase from the corner drug store. (It is not pre-printed nor does he manually write the facilities name on it).
I am only one person that is consumed with hope and love for these intelligent creatures.
I hope that this facility will overhaul its staff and start over.
I hope that the animals start to be treated humanely and with respect.
I am hopeful that with your help and others like you new rules and laws wil l be put in place to protect these angels.
I hope that you will join my fight, coupled with countless others, to help these animals breath another day, without the abuse and neglect.
I really, really hope you can help. Should you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the email below.
Sincerely,
Angelic

3-6-10

4 dogs going to the shelter Saturday in     MEMPHIS TN.

Susan lives near Memphis in a rural area where dogs get dropped off all the time, including these 4 dogs. For 4 months, Susan has tried in vain to find homes for these dogs and because she has 3 dogs of her own she cannot keep the 4 newcomers. She says she will take them all to the Memphis Animal Shelter on Saturday if she cannot find another place for them.

They are all current on shots and heartworm negative and Noelle is spayed but not the others. All are females. All are sweet and gentle with people but NO CATS.

Please contact Susan Taylor if you can help with any of these dogs.

About rosie: UPDATE 2: Rosie made the cut one more time. We have been lucky enough to have strong adoptions this week and we still have a cage for her. We were able to place 2 dogs who have been with us a long time so we are extending Rosie again. She needs a home soon! ... Oh yeah... we met her original owner last weekend. Her real name is apparently Raeanne... owner said he didnt want her back because his daughter has already gotten over her... how very sad..He did say she was a good dog...at least he gave her that much credit. Ugghh. UPDATE:Rosie is still here. Our other animal aggressive dog was adopted today. It gives us renewed hope that Rosie will get her chance too! Please call soon if you can offer Rosie her 2nd chance. Rosie is a beautiful girl! She has soft red fur and a sweet face. She is friendly with all people but really fancies the men. She would just love a home where the man of the house was interested in giving her his attention. Oh she likes girls too but she is a bit of a flirt. Rosie enjoys a game of fetch when she gets the chance. She has seen the vet and is up to date on shots and is spayed. Her kennel is always clean so we think she is housebroken as well. Rosie does not like other animals though so she really must find a special home where she will be the only one. If you could offer her a single pet home where she could be part of your family we would love you to contact us. Adoptive families will need to fill out an adoption application, pay her adoption fees and come pick her up. We do not ship. We will gladly accept help from rescues as well. Please contact us so we can discuss. Thank you for checking out our beautiful Rosie. She has been waiting too long....

Home Again Dalmatain Rescue in Fayette, AL Is Shutting Down
4 years ago

Home Again Rescue has to shut down as my husband was offered a job 2 hours from where we are located as was I, so we need to move/relocate. Since we have to move we can no longer take in any more dogs and are looking for rescues for the ones we have now, or forever homes would be the best. We work out of our house so this is why it must be done. The sooner it happens the better as we need to get the house fixed, new carpet and the list goes on so we can put the house on the market. We may or may not re-open the rescue over in Mississippi. We may just consider fostering for another Dalmatian Rescue, since both of us will have jobs we just wont have time to do the rescue anymore. It was fun, frustrating, rewarding, stressfull, giving and everything else while we did it. We want to thank everyone who supported us in the 1 1/2 that we did the rescue. The new jobs offers are life changing and I can not wait until we get over there.

If any rescue can help take some of our dogs let us know, we will keep the webpage up for awhile so I can put our story up and so I can promote future dogs that may be fostered.

Thank You

Save Ms. FEBRUARY

She is at the NYCACC, which is a high-kill shelter here in NY.  They have various branches you can learn about at www.nycacc.org.  But this sweet little girl is in the largest, Manhattan shelter, and has no time left...

LOOK AT THIS ADORABLE SWEET GIRL - SHE IS SCARED STRAIGHT!!! at the CITY SHELTER and IS GETTING PUT DOWN TOMORROW BECAUSE THERE IS "NO SPACE" left!! NO DOG SHOULD BE PUT DOWN BCAUSE THEY ARE SCARED!! - Wouldn't you be SCARED if you were thrown in JAIL for NO GOOD REASON!!.. PLS SAVE HER TODAY!!!!

FEBRUARY_A847585.jpg
MS. FEBRUARY is a sweet small 3y F tan pitX... she is absolutely adorable but she is very nervous and scared at the shelter and is getting passed over because of her shyness... she will need a strong confident human pack leader to bring her out of her shell and give her the confidence she needs... someone who has had prior experience with bully breeds .... She should probably not be with small chlidren that may frighten her with their quick movements but older kids ages 12yrs+ would be fine... however she would probably benefit from being with another confident dog to give her more self assurance since she seems to be submissive with other dogs that she's met at the shelter.... PLEASE SAVE THIS DARLING GIRL and GIVE HER THE TLC she DESERVES!!

If you can SAVE FEBRUARY by commiting to ADOPTING or FOSTERING please send an e-mail to: SAVETHISDOG@GMAIL.COM with your PHONE CTC #S so we can contact you IMMEDIATELY with the shelter info... PLS DON't HESITATE or it WILL BE TOO LATE!

UPDATE on DUKE

2-14-10 (This is the Message I received from Duke's Owner)

After an hour long consultation with the family vet, and inquiries to the local no kill shelter, it was decided Duke should be put down.

This was not a decision made lightly or without pain. Adam, Erica and their sons are suffering more than we can imagine.

Thank You if you Fwd / Cross-posted the First message about Duke to try to get him into a home.   RIP,Duke

Update wv no kill shelter

Patricia Bragg has updated her page. Looks positive. Let's hope all make good on their offers of help. This is what it says:

February is going to start the rebuilding of SHARE rescue.  I am very touched and pleased by all the concern for the rescue that has been shown by animal lovers across the US and even other countries.  To all the loyal supporters, rescues, private donors, animal lovers and everyone who came to the aid of SHARE in times of need a huge thank you from myself and the dogs and cats here.

While we are not out of the woods yet; I have taken a second breath and am now ready to roll up my "rescue" sleeves and continue the fight to save the dogs and cats in this area that have no other means of protection.

The need is still great for monthly donations, volunteers to help with the animals and the support of all interested and concerned parties.

If you are able to put out donation jars, contact businesses, find rescues/ no-kill shelters willing to take dogs or cats online, help with transports or just have some time you could spend promoting the rescue please now is the time to do these things.

Please call us at 304-546-3916 or 304-946-2266 or email us at  trishbragg@4shareinc.com or pattyvance@4shareinc.com

URGENT-Duke Needs a Home before he is put down in a few days.

2-13-10

               PLEASE CROSS-POST FAR & WIDE

To all my Care2 friends;

Please forward this to everyone! Since my son, Adam has been in Iraq, his three year old large lab mix has become much more protective of his family!  This has caused Duke to become more agressive.

During the past several weeks, Duke has jumped on and attempted to bite two people. One was child. No one has been hurt, and no one wants Duke to "get in trouble", but Adam and his wife Erica are concerned for the welfare of friends and others who are not part of the immediate family. He has become unpredictable and Erica is fearful something might happen to one my grandsons' friends.

If they cannot find a suitable home for him (WITHOUT SMALL CHILDREN), he will probably be put down within the few days.

They live in Phenix City, Alabama. Duke is not a vicious dog, but is protective. He is large for a lab and I suspect he might be part Great Dane. He weighs about 80-85 pounds, does well with other dogs and cats, loves my nine and fourteen year old grandsons.

All this is breaking my heart because Duke is Adam's dog. Since Adam is in Iraq, he justs wants to protect his wife and children from any consequences he can not be there to handle. If Duke hurts someone they would never forgive themselves.

If anyone can help, please call me at 505-473-7493 or message me at care2.

Sincerely, Carrie Burton

How did you find out what this guy is doing to the dogs? If there's proof of his killing them, can't the authorities be advised and asked to do something? If you need help I'll do whatever I can.

Richard Hayden of Fairbanks Alaska , IS A DANGEROUS CON MAN SEEKING HELPLESS DOGS IN THE U.S. AND POSING AS DEDICATED ANIMAL LOVER WANTING TO ADOPT. HE HAS KILLED 'MANY' DOGS. PLEAE READ THIS ALERT. HE IS CURRENTLY HEADING TO ORLAND FL ON JAN.20. HE GETS THESE POOR DOGS THRU CRAIG'S LIST POSTINGS FROM SHELTERS, RESCUE ORG'S AND INDIVIDUALS. NOONE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING TO THESE ANIMALS, BUT THE DOGS HE GETS THRU CRAIG'S LIST HAVE ALL DIED. HE IS CURRENTLY ADVERTISING A BOGUS CRAIG'S LIST AD LOOKING TO ADOPT A FEMALE GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG APPROX. 5-9 YRS. OLD TO TAKE BACK WITH HIM TO ALASKA . BUT THE DOG WILL DIE!!! Richard Hayden is currently seeking dogs throughout the US , from rescue groups, shelters, and from private individuals via sites like Craigslist.

Rescues and shelters are often impressed that he is willing to adopt at such a long distance and assume that someone willing to spend so much money to get a dog must be a good home. According to some of his information he lives in an RV with three German Shepherds. In other applications he states he lives in a house with a yard. Sometimes he says he has one dog, in other cases no dogs.

He is an experienced con man and knows what to say and how to work the system. He has groups of devoted followers on Internet forums who think they know him and believe that he’s a good home.

The truth is very different..

He has adopted countless dogs that have since disappeared. At least 3 dogs from rescues have died within weeks of arrival in Alaska . He told the rescues that two of them died of cancer (after being in perfect health and vet checked prior to sending) but he has been unwilling to produce any veterinary references to support his claims. The third dog supposedly drowned. He has adopted several other dogs from Anchorage and Fairbanks animal control that have since disappeared. He has potentially gotten many other dogs from Craigslist and similar sites.

He usually has multiple ads in different cities running. He will typically back off when rescues and shelters request a home visit or reference checks but is savvy to adoption screening systems and is good at manipulating well-meaning people to pull dogs for him.

He flies a small plane and sometimes comes for dogs himself, in other cases he has them shipped to Alaska .

He prefers German Shepherds, but is known to have taken Labs, Pit Bulls, and a Malamute mix. The dogs he gets are always large breed spayed females.

He prefers dogs that are overweight with passive, docile temperaments.

Please cross-post widely!

It is especially important to warn shelters who may not typically receive these alerts, or be as likely to do the home visits and veterinary reference checks that would immediately expose this person.

Hi All,

Forwarding Plea for Help:

WV SHELTER CLOSING, NO FUNDING, NO HELP...113 DOGS AND 22 CATS. ONE PERSON WITH A BROKEN ANKLE TAKING CARE OF ALL

CONTACT: PATRICIA Bragg (msn.com)

Subject: Need Placement Help
Date: Mon, 8 Feb 2010 08:52:22 -0500

After two years of no volunteers, no funding, dumb ass government officials both local and state and just sheer exhaustion of the massive number of strays and drop offs I am admitting defeat and closing the only no kill shelter in the area.

It is with the deepest regrets that I can not make this work for the animals and heaviness of heart that I send this email asking (begging) for help placing my dogs. I am overcrowded, overworked and working with a handicap of a cast right now. I am the only feeding, watering cleaning person who takes care of 113 dogs and 22 cats and I can not keep doing this. What used to take 6 hours per day to complete now takes me 8 because of the broken ankle. I have a water leak that I can not afford to have fixed so I am carrying 36 water jugs to the shelter every day to water the dogs and cats and also having t o carry coal and wood to heat the building.

I have worked with all the disadvantages that have been thrown at me for over 2 years now but I am now financially, emotionally, physically and mentally drained and I cannot just leave these dogs to starve in the building but right now I can not afford to feed them and care for them. I am in debt big time where I have borrowed money for food and vet bills and I have to acknowledge my limititations. My personal bills are all overdue and I am raising 3 granddaughters that have suffered the consequencs of pouring every available minute and dollar into this rescue that seems to always demand more than I have.

If I turn them over to the local pounds they will be euthanized and in Logan county they still use the gas chamber. I can not bear to think of them being put down and I will do what I can to keep them from going to the pounds for as long as I can but it would be more humane to put them down than to let them starve.

I have contacted many of the organizations that are supposed to be serious about helping animals, AHS, HSUS, PETA etc who has many suggestions about raising money and gives advice on spay and neuter but if you work rescue you understand that does not feed or help the immediate need.

If you have any contacts that can help me move these dogs to safety where they do not have to be euthanized please contact me I know I can only hold out a few more days and desperately need to get these guys somewhere safe.

Please contact any rescues or avenues of placement you may have and help me get these dogs moved.

DOG ADVOCATE CHARGED WITH HELPING STARVING AND FREEZING DOGS! Saturday, 6:52 PM

February 6, 2010, Altoona, PA — Dog advocate Tamira Ci Thayne, founder and CEO of Dogs Deserve Better, a non-profit working solely on behalf of chained and penned dogs, spent the coldest night of the year sleepless despite being snug and warm in her bed.

The faces of dogs chained out in single-digit temperatures and sub-zero windchills haunted her, and she worried if these dogs would survive the night in their inadequate houses, many of which contained not even the single insulating element that could well save their lives: straw.

Determined to help local dogs, she rose early and, with another DDB volunteer, took straw, food, and water to some of the worse cases.   (read the entire story)

http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/thaynetrespassing.html

If people can make calls in her behalf, write letters or post this story everywhere, maybe we can not only help her but enforce the laws to protect the animals.

WHY did the policeman cite the rescuer that was trying to help the animals and NOT the 'owner' of these dogs who was starving them and letting them freeze??

NEETOE

Please consider Neetoe if you are looking for a lifelong companion.

She is a one year old, Black Labrador Retriever mix. Healthy and loveable, shy but attentive, she needs and deserves a loving home!  Please contact us at info@animalrescuemobile.org for more information on Neetoe or any ARF dog.

Neetoe is such a wonderful dog. She is completely crate trained and is working hard on becoming house broken. Neetoe gets along with most dogs but tends to do better with larger dogs - she adores people of all ages. She is intelligent and learns quickly. She already knows how to walk on a leash quite well with just a few reminders. She loves to play with other people and dogs, particularly fetch and tug-of-war. She would love to have a yard to run around in and loves to go on walks to explore her surroundings. Neetoe also likes to snuggle up with her human friends for a nap after playing. Neetoe is still a puppy and needs someone who will help train her and show her love. She is already ready to return that love to you.

help for these lonely souls

While looking at the eyes of most of these doggies I couldn't help but cry! They are so sad and you can tell that they feel so lonely.

I am going to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow and you are all witnesses that if I win I will open a 1000 acre santuary for all the animals in need!!!!!!

Blessings to  all of you that are making a difference and giving love to these lovely souls.

Some good news and a request for donations!

Sorry for sending this twice... Please disregard the first one.. I saw a typo and corrected it........

Hopefully many of you have heard by now were the city counsel has voted ending the GASSING!
After 2 and 1/2 years of me working to get this approved it is finely done. With the help of concerned people and others that spoke at the meeting we are now in the process of the well needed change. However we need these things to make this happen. Hydraulic lift table,Vet Scales, Drug Safe wall mount, Stand up cabinet for supplies, Muzzles for cats and dogs.  If there is anyone that can help please let me know. If not, then that is okay.

I would like to thank everyone for your support. Rescue and networking is truly a blessing.
The animals that are PTS will be done in a humane way. As most of you know I work very hard to get them adopted and rescued. The ones that have to be PTS are very few. Again thank you too all that have supported me and that will continue to support myself and the Sulphur Springs Animals.

We're calling her Hope after hearing about this pitiful girl and seeing her images after she was taken to the Ouachita Paris Animal Shelter in Louisiana. She is emaciated, has intestinal issues and huge calluses on her legs and bony area in the rear; likely the result of being kept outdoors all her life. This girl has led a life of obvious misery and we at Heidi's Legacy Dog Rescue will do all we can to turn that around. She deserves far more than this.

Heidi's Legacy Dog Rescue is committed to rescuing homeless animals as fast as our resources allow. The majority of the dogs we take in are malnourished, ill, injured or been abused, so you can imagine that our veterinarian expenses are quite high. We believe that if an animal has the courage to survive the abuse and neglect it deserves to be medically treated and live its remaining years in a loving home.

Whatever it takes to save Hope, Heidi's Legacy Dog Rescue is committed to giving her the second life she is meant to live.

No chip in

Dusty, There is no chip in. People will probably need to go to her website or I supppose someone could do a chip in.

I am also trying to upload the pictures of the two dogs. One is a pdf for the Alicia dog so not sure how that will work. I looked on her site to see if they are posted there and didn't see them.

I agree, I would like to help her raise the money, too. She has done an ENORMOUS amount for animals in Louisiana! I will be so sorry to see her leave but as everyone can see, she is helping the animals right up to the end of her stay.

What do you think? The thing I like about the chip in is you can see your progress.

Is there is a chip in for this Sue?   I know that hard times are upon alot of us (myself included) but if we can at least crosspost this to other groups and share via email maybe we can raise the money?

Animal Rescue Front- The Epilogue- Needs help 1 last time!

Hi all, I moved to New Orleans 7 months ago with high hopes and big dreams. Mainly I had hoped I would fill a role here in working towards a better environment for companion animals but shortly after arriving I was notified I would be losing my job and trying to find suitable employment to support me has been elusive. So I write today to let all of you know that I am returning to Mass. but when my sister and I leave New Orleans on Monday we will not be leaving empty handed. We are in the final stages of planning a transport that will take Lula the German Shepard to Dawn Dorin in North Carolina. Babay, our little pit baby who was thrown in the trash last week like spoiled food will be with us as well and she needs a foster/permanent home. She was used as a bait dog as indicated by the scars on her young, small body but we have her now and she is taking her first steps towards the life that they all deserve. We'll take a litter of 6 puppies for Casey Lattimer of Delta Humane and 4 little Doxies going to Maryland. They'll be a couple of others as well and hopefully by the time we leave we'll have 11-15 dogs and puppies leaving Louisiana. This will be my fourth trip back with animals and my second with my sister. I suspect it will be my last. So I write today to ask you one more time to help us with our last 'Hurrah.' We have raised most of the money we need but we're still short by about $400.00. And I write today because there are two New Orleans pits who need our help. Babay needs her new home and Brees we'll have to leave behind but I promised my friends Alicia and Jason I would ask for your help with finding him a soft landing. I am attaching flyers for both of these kids and their pictures are below. I have been blessed to have followed in my sister's footsteps 4 1/2 years ago and to have rescued and lived in this great city. The sadness and cruelty I have witnessed has been countered by acts of great compassion and love. It has been a journey....thanks so very much for ensuring we did not have to take it alone. -- Best, Chris McLaughlin Founder, Animal Rescue Front www.animalrescuefront.org

Subject: Ginger has crossed the rainbow bridge and Louie is all alone, 11 yo gsd shep lived entire life in shelters

I am sending this to all of the generous and animal loving people that I know in the hopes that you can help me. Many of you met Ginger and Louie several months ago when we worked desperately to find them a forever home when Pet Rescue closed. They had spent over 10 years together at Pet Rescue Miami and when the shelter was forced to stop operating, we all worked tirelessly to find a place for them to go where they would not be separated from each other. A most wonderful and giving human being offered them a place in an outdoor sanctuary in northern Florida. Unfortunately, 3 weeks after arriving at the new shelter, Ginger became ill and went into the hospital. Her caregiver went to the ends of the Earth to save her life and Ginger fought as hard as she could, but in the end we had to say goodbye to our feisty girl....and Louie had to say goodbye also. It has been many months now and although Louie has accepted that Ginger is not coming back, he is still a very lonely soul. Our hearts are breaking for him. He has lost the only home he ever knew and then his life long buddy.

I know there is a family and home out there somewhere that could be made richer by adding Louie to their lives. He is a big teddy bear who loves to play with his squeaky toys and loves to play fetch. He loves his treats and really loves to take long walks. He used to be so patient with Ginger when we would walk them together. She couldn't keep up with him because she only had 3 legs and he used to wait for her to catch up. Louie would love to live his remaining years with a loving family, to play endless games of fetch with endless supply of squeaky toys and love. Even though he is in northern Florida, the home can be anywhere. We will get him wherever he needs to be to have what he has never had! The home he has waited for his entire life. In memory of Ginger, can we all do this for Louie? ..

Please send his story out to everyone you think will care.

email - klcremer@aol.com

Louie, of course, is the big teddy bear on the right with his squeaky toy. Next to him is our beloved Ginger.. Rest In Peace Beautiful Girl Ginger and Louie

                    Crosspost Far & Wide Please

Photobucket
Dear Friends,

January has been yet another very busy month for us here at the shelter. With so many animals needing our help.

Here are some of the cases we have had to deal with this month. But first take a look at the new section of our website. We now have a new category and have uploaded some videos:

http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=filme

As you all know we were very pleased when Benji finally arrived here at the shelter:

http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...

We heard about another sad case. Lola was abandoned in Arad near to a garage, alone and frightened, her future looked grim. We were desperate to help her as she would not have survived. Thank You so much to everyone who enquired about Lola. Thanks to your donations we have been able to bring her in. We then discovered her to be pregnant, which is probably why she was so cruelly abandoned by her owners. We will love her and care for her puppies, and hopefully be able to re home them in the future.

http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...
http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...

This month we had to announce the very sad news about the loss of our dear "Tina" She was brought into us in 2007 along with her sister. In 2008 her sister was adopted, leaving Tina behind. From this time she seemed so sad, so we gave her the company of another dog "Bebelusul" and they had good times together.
Unfortunately Tina became very sick. We rushed her to the clinic but the Vets were unable to save her. It was a very sad time for us. She is now buried in the pets cemetery. We miss her so much.

http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...
http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...

Here we have little "Magda" the daughter of "Hope" She was such a blessing to us all, after we had been through such sad times. She has been adopted by a kind and caring family who treat her like an aristocrat. We are so pleased to see her go to such a wonderful home:

http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...

Here is our Video about Nora:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSZP09...

Nora was another abandoned puppy in the streets of Romania. She had been run over by a car, and there was no one to help her!! Her leg has had to be amputated because her injuries were so severe. Here you can see her photos, along with "Lola" on the day that she gave birth to her pups. Also another of our dogs "Iana" who has just been sterilised.
http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...
http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...

Also this month we had the cases of "Angelica" and "Floppy"

http://www.apam.ro/index.php?x=noutat...
Floppy had so many health problems, but we are now pleased to report that he is 80% fit and has been adopted by a good family.
Angelica's health continues to cause her problems, but she also is now with a new family who will continue with her treatment. They love and spoil her! Oh, and her new name is "Nelli"

This month we have the very sad case of "Gruitii" 2 beautiful dogs abandoned in a park in Bucharest. Living on food given to them by passers by. One day it was announced that people would be coming to the park to remove the abandoned dogs, which caused a worry to the good people that looked after them. A kind lady living opposite the park took them in to her apartment to keep them safe. Unfortunately she is not allowed to keep the dogs in her home and we are desperate to find a new place for them to go. They are good dogs and very clever. If anyone can think of a solution please let us know. We do not want them to have to be returned to the Park. It is not safe for them there. Take a look at their pictures:

Hiya

Would you be kind enough to do an appeal for the following dog? He has until 3rd Feb and he will be put to sleep.

Any help to save this beautiful boy will be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards and Thank You as always.

Caroline

Gorgeous Rusty

I know he doesn't seem easy but with the right training he is a nice boy... just had bad owners!!

Ok with dogs on walks but wouldn't like to say about living with one, probably right dog he would be ok, same old story he's been left on his own in house for a while on regular occasions but been fine, doesn't like drastic change to routine, chews non stop when stressed, has a bit of a dominance problem in respect if he doesn't no who's boss he decides to be, will need an experienced and patient owner.

ThankYou I'm really out of time for this lad.....
Any rescue centres that kindly offer help please meet the following criteria:

1- A NO DESTRUCTION POLICY

2- HOMECHECK ALL PROSPECTIVE OWNERS

3- DOG GETS RETURNED TO THE SANCTUARY IF OWNER CAN NO LONGER KEEP

Individual homes offered will be homechecked

Thank you very much for your support

Hi friend.   Please take the time to read this.

Normally i ask your help for a cause, now i need help myself. This morning my husband called me.He's a truckdriver who drives to France. He saw this straydog wondering on the parkinglot when Patrick was taking his break. He saw that same dog there 3 or 4 weeks ago on the same spot, but didn't think much of it then, thought the gasstation there owned the dog.He saw the dog going to truckdrivers begging for food. She did get food, not the proper food she needs but anyway. She's not starving. She is very sweet, approx 5 yrs old, she's a Golden Retriever.Patrick asked me what to do,i told him to find a local shelter so they could take her in.He did,BUT,they didn't believe him and said that he just wanted to dump his own dog,and told Patrick that he had to pay 100 euro's just so they would take her.Ofcourse that's rediculous, and he walked away. Then he called the pet-ambulance,they didn't even show up.So he aksed me what to do again.I told him to take her with him home.So he is driving home now with the dog in his truck. She seems very grateful, keeps wagging her tail every time Patrick even takes a glimps at her haha. So,yeah, now, what to do.I already contacted the no-kill shelter i volunteer for, asked them that if i can't find a new owner on my own,if i can bring her there. That is a possibility. But as you would maybe agree with me,i think it's better if i find a owner on my own.I will take pictures tomorrow when she arrives. Also i will take her to the vet for a check-up tomorrow, would have to find a good vet that works cheaper than the vets i know in my area,i'm not rolling in money at the moment..So i would like your help.

If you have someone that is on your friendslist from the Netherlands,Belgium or Germany, please contact them to aks if they are interested in a sweet dog.Or send them this message. They can contact me at owen.pat.claud.peters@hotmail.com

So please take the time to look up dutch, belgium or german friends. I really appreciate this.Big hugs Claudia ~For the Oceans~ or better yet ~For a French Doggie~

This SWEET 2 year old emaciated boxer/pit mix was picked up by the police and brought to the Forrest City, Arkansas Shelter.  He was found tied to a stop sign after what appeared to have been a dog fight where he was used as bait.  He is covered with bite marks and gashes all over his legs and face.  His eye has been destroyed and will have to be removed.  He has chunks of his lip and ear that are missing.  His legs are so scarred that it looks like he has tiger stripes.  He was covered with grease which is what they do to a lot of bait dogs so they will last longer during a fight because it is harder for another dog to get a grip on them.  He is as sweet as can be.  He has been transferred to a hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas where he is being treated and is having surgery to have his eye removed today.

Gabby needs a Home

1-23-10

           GABBY

Please help Gabby find a new home.  Gabby is a 5 or 6 year-old German shepherd mix that was rescued by the Heaven Can Wait Animal Society in Nevada.  Then she was adopted to a woman who moved around a lot and ultimately returned her to the rescue group.

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society is desperately trying to find a home for Gabby.  This beautiful German shepherd mix is 5 or 6 years-old and is currently enrolled in our Pups on Parole program.

Gabby has a long history with HCWS.  She was found running down a highway several years ago and was rescued by our volunteers.  She was adopted by a woman who moved around a lot and ultimately could no longer take care of the dog.  The woman returned her to HCWS.  Now Gabby is back at the prison program, but she is having a difficult time adjusting.  And to make matters worse, the one inmate she bonded with is being taken out of the Pups on Parole program.

Gabby is a wonderful dog and will be a good companion for anyone who understands the needs of a large dog with lots of energy.  She knows many commands and is a loving girl with a big personality.  She doesn’t understand why her life keeps changing and needs a permanent human guardian she can count on.

If you know someone who is interested in giving Gabby the home she deserves, please contact the HCWS office at 702-227-5555.  Tell the operator you are calling about Gabby and would like them to contact Rachel or Sharon.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS, RELATIVES AND CO-WORKERS.  LET’S FIND A HOME FOR GABBY.

Dog adoptions are held every Saturday at the Petsmart at: 7050 Arroyo Crossing Parkway LV 89113 (Rainbow and I-215.)  If you call ahead, volunteers will be sure to bring Gabby to adoptions this week.  And it’s a great opportunity to meet the many other dogs ready for adoption.

Thanks so much for the help.

Help for Beauregard - 16 Year old Basset Hound with bleeding tumors. Needs surgery.

CROSS-POST FAR & WIDE PLEASE

1-20-10

Betty Dalhover below is a neighbor and dear friend of mine. She has a sanctuary and takes in animals that typically cannot be adopted and cares for them. She offers a safe haven for them to live out their lives. She is 73 years old & her husband is 79 and do all this on their social security checks. I have seen her buy for her animals and omit any extras such as cookies , ice cream, ...the things many of us add to our regular grocery cart. She does this in order to care for "her kids". She presently has an old basset hound that is bad need of surgery. When she took him to her vet he said he is too old to do surgery & now she does not have the funds she had then. My vet will do surgery on him and has operated on my 16 year old pekignese and many old dogs I have had in the past. He is very good at it and is very careful with the anesthesia on these older animals. They are closely monitored and I have sat in on many of his surgerys so I know this for a fact. This baby has a bleeding tumor that will not heal and is getting bigger and bigger. He has another on his rump that needs attention as well. They bandage, apply meds, give antibiotics, the works and it is doing nothing but keep getting worse and worse. He scratches it and it bleeds profusly. They have tried wrapping it, e-collars, taping his feet to pad them so the claws won't tear the wound...EVERYTHING! Yesterday he got the padding off his back paw and clawed through the bandages and was bleeding badly. Betty NEEDS help for Beauregard (bassett Hound). She is 73 years old and one of the biggest assets these otherwise unadoptable animals have here in Burke County, Ga. I take the adoptable pets, Betty takes the unadoptable. I will arrange and take the dog to the vet for the surgery if she is able to get enough funds to cover this. I myself have 50+ rescues at my own shelter rescue and just do not have the funds to help her with this. We are in the largest county in the state of Ga. with NO animal control. My vet is very reasonable and the surgery should not be over $300. at most. I know times are really hard for all of us right now but if anyone is able to help with even a small donation to get this baby some help and relief, even the smallest donations add up and hopefully she can get enough to cover the vet costs. My vet (who will treat him) does not accept donations by credit card...he is an old vet but very good surgeon and does things the old way. He has a small clinic run by all family employees. He STAYS very busy and does not want to be bothered with extra paperwork or keeping track of donations towards a particular animal. I have tried to get him to accept donations for my own rescues before and he Will Not! If you can help in any way, please visit Betty's web-site at www.lostandfoundsanctuary.org She has a pay pal account but very seldom receives any donations. She and her husband Louie are Angels in every sense of the word for these animals. Take a tour of her web-site to view some of the babies she cares for. Pictures attached

Noah

Noah is a friendly older gentleman, who is a little shy with people he doesn't know. He arrived at the shelter with his Mother and a dozen brothers and sisters. We found good homes for eleven members of his large family, but he and one brother were never chosen. The shelter has become Noah's home. He lives with his somewhat younger female best friend, Carol. He enjoys treats and extra attention. Noah will soon be 12 years old.

P.S. Noah would like to thank everyone who has sent him special donations. For some reason, he was recently labeled "urgent" and even ended up on Craig's List without the shelter's permission! Noah is interested in being adopted by someone who understand seniors (can Carol come too?) but is otherwise healthy and happy. All donations, however, are greatly needed and appreciated. Noah shares
Our $50.00 adoption fee includes spay or neuter, microchip, and basic vaccinations. Since we give our own vaccinations, your local laws may require you to have the rabies vaccination re-administered by a licensed veterinarian. If a puppy or kitten is too young to be fixed before it is adopted, the shelter will pay for the surgery when the pet is old enough. All of our dogs are tested for heartworm and receive heartworm preventative. All of our cats are tested for feline leukemia and FIV.

Please call us at (573) 896-4049 for a copy of our adoption application. Thanks for looking at our pets!

Again we come with a dramatic case, a baby named Nora, which was probably abandoned in the street, without mercy, without even thinking to conscience and she was  found just after a car cross over her leg and the leg  bone  had come through the skin, so it had to be amputated. Now she sleeps in the nights, in an abandoned car, so we worried that this puppy is in danger again. We want to bring Nora to us where we will do everything for her life to be one as good as possible.

Shaggy
Too intelligent to trust?  Shaggy is a very smart dog who's bright enough to have survived for six years completely on his own near the Grand Canyon. But did he learn the lesson of independence too well? Shaggy seems to think that humans are dangerous, and he's better off avoiding them.

Shaggy tries to stay away from people, but when they "catch" him, he just shuts down. After he was rescued from the wide open world, he lived at a shelter for a couple of years. But they couldn't get him to open up or make friends. So who would adopt a fellow like this?  Watch DogTown to see what the folks at Best Friends can do with a shy guy like Shaggy. Or, you can even help support his special care by sponsoring him today!

If you can't not share your Home, You can Sponsor Shaggy here at the link below.

If You or someone you know would like to adopt Shaggy, You would still go to the same link to contact persons & arrange adoption.

Oscar Needs a Sponsor

http://peanutpetsheltergoespink.org/2010/01/our-latest-sad-rescue-oscar/

Our latest PPS rescue is Oscar the Pit Bull who arrived today. Named for the extremely kind man who has been feeding him and who alerted us to his plight, Oscar is a truly sad case. He is hungry, he has mange, fungus, open sores and parasites. His ears have been cropped so short as to be almost non-existent. Worst of all, Oscar has given up hope. Look into his eyes and you will see no sign of suffering, pain, discomfort or distress, there is simply…..nothing. He is not aggressive or resistant. He is not friendly or loving. He neither  accepts or rejects affection. He is simply existing, a hollow shell of an animal.

Rescue and rehabilitation is our passion. We don’t care how long it takes to make an animal strong and healthy. We will keep battling until we succeed, only giving up if the animal is truly suffering. There is a line between normal discomfort while recovering and true suffering and it is so important to know where and when to draw the line.

At this moment in time, we badly need a sponsor or two to help us make Oscar well again.

Oscar’s wounds will heal. We will worm him, medicate him and love him, but will we heal his soul?

Only time will tell.

Talk about LOVE…this girl knows ALL ABOUT IT!! She is one of the most GENTLE American Staffordshire Terriers that I have come in contact with at the shelter! And, I have seen MANY!! Cocoa was an owner surrender because her family could no longer afford to feed her. Yes, Cocoa is another result of our terrible economy. She loves people, is great with dogs and doesn't even mind cats One thing Cocoa’s family DID do for her is LOVE her…it’s very obvious when you meet her. Cocoa also recently had puppies. She is approximately 1 year old. If you want a dog that will be by your side giving you lovey eyes…this is her!! PLEASE…give this girl another GREAT home!!!!!!! She deserves it…she’s cold at the shelter and needs a warm bed!!!!!

This WONDERFUL DOG spent the HOLIDAYS in a CONCRETE SHELTER!!! No family to LOVE HER!! No gifts to sniff out and open. Just concrete, food and a blanket!

If you have room in your rescue, your home or if you know someone looking to adopt a great dog, please contact JAMES ASAP at 502-633-0009/Fax 502-647-9214 / E-mail: animal.adopt@shelbycountykentucky.com We are desperarte. Every kennel is full and Coco will be PTS FRI JAN 15!!!
Deuce, boarding in Birmingham, AL needs a foster that wants a very trainable dog!
#2.
Have you ever seen a dog on TV or at an event performing and thought "I'd like to train a dog to do that"? Well, this is your chance! Deuce is highly motivated by treats and tennis balls, and very attentive to his handler. Deuce would be an IDEAL dog for anyone who wants a dog that loves to work. Hish high drive would make him ideal at S&R, detection, spring pole, weight pull, possibly even disc dog. The posibilities are endless!

Although Deuce isn't considered "urgent" because he is safe in boarding, that doesn't make his situation any less dire. Eventually, we will run out of money, and in the mean time, he is getting bored and lonely in a cage.

Deuce was pulled from a shelter in Montgomery, AL.. His first foster home discovered that he had a very high prey drive for cats, and we elected to board him to keep the foster home's cats safe. At this time, we are working with Deuce daily on Drop it, Leave it, and leash skills that will help him control his high drive. I am personally taking him to the park for a mile long walk, a tennis ball chasing session, and clicker/reward based training. This guy catches on FAST!

Deuce needs a foster home with NO cats, and he must meet any doggy roommates before placement. He has met a few kids, and acts appropriately every time. We'd like him to stay in the Birmingham area since we have a trainer that is willing to work with him at a discounted rate.

At this time, we want to find Deuce a foster, but that doesn't mean you can't adopt him. We require that the dogs in our program be with their foster homes for two months prior to final adoption, so if you think Deuce will be a great match for your family, sign up to foster him with the option to adopt. While he is still in foster, we will pay for his medical care, provide you with food, a crate, and tons of support! At the end of two months, if you see what I see in this boy, I'm sure you'll know he is the right match for your family.

Deuce has already been evaluated by our staff, and he is a super boy who is highly motivated, higly trainable and has no aggression/guarding issues.

Initially, we were concerned that his high prey drive would keep him from being adoptable, but a good friend reminded us: "Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of Pit Bulls with normal high-drive lose out for being the typical breed members they are. The truth of the matter is that this breed is drivey, very focused when it comes to dog-to-dog issues, and lots of them won't hesitate to kill a cat. The sad reality is that there are minimal homes (and fosters) equipped to deal with high-drive dogs. So what tends to happen is that the dogs with more drive - even when overall *really nice* and good with people - end up missing out."

We don't want to give up on a dog who is only being the epitome of everything we love about this breed. We need your help to save a great example of the breed we all love.

Urgent - Ringo's Adoption Fell Through - He's Texas Bound

We have an urgent situation with Ringo formerly known as Baron, who's life and future was once so dismal and bleak with the certain fate of euthanasia. However, he was granted a miracle, some angels stepped in and saved his worthy life. All was well, even an adoptive home and it all seemed too good to be true...

Unfortunately true to form, the black cloud just keeps surrounding this dog with no sign of a let up. Ringo's adoptive home didn't work out. It wasn't anyone's fault or anything Ringo did or didn't do.

Ringo's former adopter is deeply saddened that it didn't work out and it was very difficult to come to the decision of not being the best match for them. They only want the very best for him and although Ringo has made immense strides and progress, he still needs specialized direction and rehabilitation training than what could be provided. It shows tremendous courage of them and inspires an immense respect for sacrificing their own feelings to provide Ringo a better opportunity.

Unfortunately, here lies the dilemma, in light of Ringo's rough start a few months back and his not-so-awesome reputation resulting in some ill-deserved wording, no quality Rescue will touch him with a 10-foot pole, nor do they have the resourses in which to be able to offer. Rescues are beyond maximum, with Pit Bulls and especially ones with no baggage attached, it's only with good reasoning that they be a Rescues 1st priority.

This was our situation this past November, when thankfully his previous savior Hannah had stepped in. She offered up her modest apartment and Joe another Dog Whisperer extraordinaire both devoted a month to refining his poor social skills. Their hard work paid off and Ringo displayed what many thought he was along under his juvenile delinquency; a highly-intelligent, eager to learn, happy-go-lucky dog. With strong leadership he would prove to be a worthy canine companion and a good candidate in his soon to be adoptive home. All that was missing was the happily ever after ending.

Unfortunately, now Hannah due to new ownership of her leased apartment is in a quandry with what to do with Ringo. Ringo has no place to go, even just temporarily. Boarding? On Hannah's single income? To what end?

What do you do with a dog like Ringo who has a bad rap? Honestly, well...given the overpopulation of the Pit Bulls galore? What are the odds one with a bad rap is going to catch a break? Next to none.

We have 3 options 2 of which are horrible and very sad options and will result in his death.

1. NYC AC&C where he was originally pulled off Death Row in October, where he will be euthanized as soon as he arrives as an owner surrender=Death.
2. Humane euthanasia at a Veterinary office=Death.
3. Our most favored choice and the one we're all praying for, it was an original thought back in November; "Dog's Best Friend in Irving, TX has graciously offered Ringo a chance at continuing effective professional rehabilitation and life. Jeff Bronson of DBF will move Ringo into his own home and integrate him into his Pack of well-balanced dogs, who were all former 'Bad dogs gone wrong'.

Regardless of Ringo's immediate future, he will never have the fear of losing his foster home, or the adoptive home not working out. Ringo will always have his home with Jeff for the rest of his life, if needed.

If you have ever been priviledged to witness Jeff's work as I have you would be in awe in the dogs that he has transformed. He speaks a dog language unlike anyone else I have ever seen and he is truly gifted with such an ability.

Many dogs lives have been saved thanks to Jeff and his wife Myra. Dog's Best Friend is not a sanctuary. It's a rehabilitative program that focuses on correcting troubled behaviors, specializing in the Pit Bull Breed and Bully breed types. None of the dogs are maintained in kennels or crates but instead thrive in the Pack mentality and regime of healthy, balanced exercise with boundaries and limitations. All of the dogs are maintained in their own home and co-exist in their daily life and environment.

Dear Popenetters,

Many of you know me as a survivor of sexual abuse whose 20-year landmark
lawsuits against my father resulted in his being held civilly
accountable, and set several federal precedents in law.  Others know me
as a public interest attorney, and still others as a professional harpist.

I need your help to find a home for two boxer dogs named Jake and Bella.

Jake and Bella belonged to my aunt (formerly married to my father's
brother).

In a very tragic situation, she took her own life.

She left behind Jake and Bella, her beloved boxers.  She left me the
legal responsibility to ensure their care.

I am desperately trying to find a home for Jake and Bella.

They are older and have some medical problems, which I know can be
costly for adopters.

They are currently in the care of a vet in Houston who has obtained
their prior records from their former vet.

We have contacted every boxer rescue organization we can find in Texas,
and they are all full and have waiting lists.

Having recently spent several weeks with the family, I can personally
report that these dogs are beautifully behaved, gentle, and great with
young children and older adults.

They are not rambunctious, but have healthy energy.

They show no signs of pain or decline that limits their enjoyment of life.

I have attached their photos.

I do not want to have to kill these dogs.

I live in a NY apartment and have a schedule that just does not make dog
ownership a possibility.

I can't afford to keep them with the vet much longer, and will need to
make a decision about them very soon.

The vet (who has my permission to release them for adoption) is the
Southwest Animal Clinic (713-668-4466).  They have all the medical
information.

I pray that someone on this list, or someone they know, may be able to
provide a home for Jake and Bella.

Bassets-Houston need pull/temp foster by Jan 2

I'm involved in the Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas and we have three Bassets in local shelters that we just don't have room for. The kind hearted people in the Arizona Basset Rescue would love to take in these dogs, but they need them in El Paso, TX by January 2nd at 8am. Not much is known about these dogs, since we can't pull them if we don't have somewhere to put them, but below are the links to their petfinder sites.

A very reliable source tells me this rural pound doesn't euthanize humanely! These dogs may be shot! PLEASE HELP! If you can't personally help save their lives PLEASE CROSSPOST TO EVERY RESCUE OR RESCUER YOU KNOW!

Linda,
Please cross post far and wide.  I know the pound that these dogs are at.......its really, really bad........

This time of year always brings an onslaught of youngsters still in thier puppyhood who have been tossed aside to make room for that cute new baby under the tree.  This year the pound has three such babies who are in desperate need of rescue to make future Christmases brighter.  I have more pictures of any dog...just let me know if you want to see them

First is an adorable young heeler boy.  His teeth say he is right at a year old but he still has that puppy demeanor, soft puppy fur, and gangly adolescent walk.  He loves everyone but is a little timid if you come at him fast.  He will dart behind your legs like he wants to hide but if you talk nicely to him, he comes right back and loves to be pet.

Next is a very happy and cuddly border collie boy.  He is right under or at a year old and he is very tired of being in a pen.  He seems like he could learn very fast and he is eager to please.  He is a smaller BC, weighing in at only 34 pounds.

Last is a basenji mix boy.  He has been looking for a place the longest.  I think he is between 1-2 and has a cute curl up tail and very interesting voice.  I don't know if I would call it a yodel but it is different than anything I have ever heard.

Please crosspost and email Jennifer at jrose_w@yahoo.com if you can help any of these babies.  Thank you.

Hello,

I am writing for a plea for those who cannot take action for themselves.  There is a area

outside of Tucson , referred to as" the dogpatch".  There has been a finding of miles and

miles of dead horses and dogs, some have been tied to trees, some have wrenches

by the sides of their heads.

There are half alive dogs dragging themselves by their hips feeding off the dead!!!!!!

The proper agencies PACC have known this for years, and have turned a blind eye.

If you go to Tucson Craigslist under pets, you will see many postings on this, if you can

help in anyway.

Need to get this out nationally nbc nightly news add is:

Please write to them, the more the better.

I can be reached thru my email or: 520-792-3530.

I thank you for anything you can do this has to end , Nanci

Dogs IN NEED # 9
Duke is a German Shepherd, who will be 9 years old in December.  We adopted him from the animal shelter when he was 5 months old.

He is lovable, and a big baby who loves to have his back scratched, and loves affection.  He loves to play with other dogs but, has a right hip problem.  He fell down the basement steps when he was two yrs. old.  The steps had no carpeting, so he is afraid of going down inside steps with no carpeting.  Has no problem going down outside steps.  If he is playing and turns his leg or hip a certain way he will cry.  I give him an aspirin in cheese, or lunch meat every 4 hrs as needed, and he is back to normal in about 2 days.  He loves to be outside winter and summer.  Will sit outside for hours at a time, as long as he is sure you are inside.

He has lost my husband and mother who he was close to, and will now lose me, so he will need a lot of love.

I feed him Beneful Healthy Weight dry and either Beneful wet or Purina wet mixed in with dry.  If I do not have wet food I put gravy over the dry.  Occasionally table food.  When I leave the house I give him treats and leave music on so he knows I will be back.  He is a barker no one can come near the house without him barking.  Strangers cannot just walk in.  I usually have to hold his collar until he sniffs them, and I keep saying it's ok.  I baby-sit a 7 month old baby, and he just goes up and snuffs her, and he was fine.  If I tell him no, he does listen.  He does not let anyone touch his food while he is eating, or his treats and toys while he is playing with them.

He is healthy, no heart or worm problem, or any medical problems.  He is loyal and wants a lot of love.  He also has a chip inserted and it registered with the American Kennel Club.  If lost he can be tracked.
