Before becoming a Green, I registered "Decline to state" because I felt that the major parties were working more on behalf of corporate interests than in the public interest. I really identify with the key values of the Green Party, so I'm looking to help it grow.
I also support instant run-off voting (IRV), which allows voters to rank candidates they support, eliminating concerns about "spoilers." People should be able to vote according to conscience, not strategy.

I am in total agreement with the 10 key points.
I first went to some Green Party meetings in Seattle, Washington. Supported some local Green candidates for office.
I think the Internet has HUGE POSSIBILITIES for spreading the TRUTH to counteract all the propaganda and advertising of the Corporatocracy.
I appreciate the contributions made by the Greens, to the reform of the insane "Drug Wars" policies of the Corporatocracy. This is not a "minor" or "side" issue; but actually it served as a bedrock, a foundation for the imposition of dictatorial policies. The arbitrary Drug Laws served as a trial run for restrictions of freedom being supinely accepted by a brainwashed public. Now, the CHALLENGE to those idiotic laws, is a decisive factor in challenging the ENTIRE system of mis-government.

I am one of the old-time liberal Democrats who drifted out of the party as it drited away from my values. I went through homelessness and became involved with homeless activism during the Clinton years, was part of the struggle against Welfare Deform, and saw up close the damage done to the lower-income section of the population during what is now remembered as the "prosperity" of the Clinton era. I explored alternative political parties, was part of trying to get a Progressive Party going in Seattle, and was very attracted to the 10 Key Values of the Green Party.
We haven't had a lot of local Green Party candidates, although I have voted for Joe Swaya in a couple of campaigns. Mostly I've worked together with Green Party members and other progressives on common issues -- like IRV voting.
Like a number of other disaffected Democrats, I became active in the party again during the 2000, 2004, and 2006 elections, in an increasingly desperate attempt to stop the Bush wave of destruction. I have seen the growing struggles within the party between the grassroots activists and the corporate party leadership, and I want to continue to help the grassroots Democrats take the party back.
At the same time, I want to encourage the growth of new political parties, the most promising of which seems to me to be the Green Party. I believe that a real living democracy needs to have a much more open "marketplace of ideas" and that the two-party winner-take-all electoral structure has almost totally eliminated thoughtful discussion and real problem-solving from the public sphere.
I call myself a Universal Heretic -- I never entirely agree with any group!
With so many values we do agree on, I'm sure we can find something constructive to do together.

I have never been a member of any political party but my priorties are more in lines with the Green Party than any other.
I am looking forward to learning more about the party and to doing whatever is within my power to promote their ideas.
When I first registered to vote I registered as a Democrat because that's what all my friends and family were registered as ... I was clueless when I was 18, but I knew I agreed with most of my friends and family's philosophies, so Dem it was and Dem it stayed until it was clear I wasn't ever going to fit the mold for either of the two parties that had all the power, which is when I registered as an Independent. Then later, a few years ago, because of the voting rules adopted by the gop that forbid Independents from voting for a Rep. in a primary, I registered as a Rep so I could vote against our incumbent representative. Then, by some magic, when I went to vote in my primary on Feb 5 I found I'd became an Independent again 
I would certainly vote for a Green candidate I believed in, but I've never felt or held any loyalty to any political party, and although I'm a 'green' kind of person, I'm not convinced parties don't do more dividing of Americans than uniting them.
IMO, the only acceptable labels for a political party in this nation are Liberty, Constitution, or Freedom or derivatives thereof 
And who knows why one of the two parties in power is called Democrat when by virtue of being an American we are all Republicans because the U.S. is a not a democracy, it's a Republic, which really should cause us all to wonder why everyone, even our presidents, refer to the U.S. as a democracy (mob rule is easier to control? i think so).

New York City here. I had been a Dem for many years until Bill Clinton signed welfare reform removing the needed safety net for many. When I saw the shift away from their core values of caring for people to the benefit of big corps, I dropped my affiliation with a party that had clearly moved away from what I believe. I am now an Independent, but have often voted for Greens to keep them on the ballot in NY.

I voted for Nader in 2000 and wish he would run again but if I cannot have him..I still have to vote my conscience and I know that this group will be more supportive of that. I am a brit living in england with an eye on the rest of the world. I vote green and try to live as closely as possible to the ethics of taking only what I need, living in harmony with nature,re-usung and re-cycling, treading gently upon the Earth which I regard personally as an aspect of the goddess.which leads me to follow this path naturally.
At first I thought the green party was going to fall flat on its face in this country(England) because 20 years ago it was rather "HIPPY" and rather opposed to the general lifestyle of those around me. But now I see the trend in general is that people at grassroots see the damage we(Humanity) are doing to the earth and our environment, and its more in vogue to be green. In fact its positively the most active issue children are aware of in politics and thru that we are learning again a culture of caring for our planet and its inhabitants.
I consider the earth our space ship a beautiful and wonderful ship that provides everything we passengers need from food to clothing and love. the only shortage is there are no liferafts and no desret islands to escape to.

I've told about myself in the thread about "How do you practice being green". I believe I share most all your values and really try to walk my talk. I vote Green in local or state elections but haven't felt it was safe to do so nationally. I hope we will become influencial and powerful enough one day that a Green Party candidate can lead the country.
I'm a Green Party member from North Carolina. It took all of us outside collecting signatures to get Cynthia McKinney as a write in for North Carolina. We lost our recent lawsuit about ballot access. We are coordinating with the Libertarians who did get ballot access, because they believe the ballot access laws in NC need to be changed.
What I'm trying to say is that you can't wait for something to become viable. You have to MAKE it viable by registering if your state has an official Green Party, or registering Independent and writing in your candidates. The other good thing is that YOU can run for office. Are you well known? Can you raise money? Then get with your party in your state and RUN GREENS RUN!!!
It is sad that I was banned from the larger Green Party group, just for taking an anti-nuclear position and not violating any TOS... I have heard that this is the reason for this group, is that many of the members here were also banned from that group for similar reasons.
One of my goals is to get a truly green host in the larger Green Party group, that is inclusive, rather than the opposite.
Is it OK to start a thread in this group dedicated to that goal?
I am the author of forty Ebooks about living green... and am working on getting them published and read by a larger audience.

I'll drop by and see how this group works out, at least. I've been a registered Green since sometime in the early 90's, and before that registered Independent. I strongly support the ten key values (http://www.gp.org/tenkey.shtml). I also support free speech, thinking that in most internet discussion groups--while I'm quick to ban folks who join, post advertisements, and leave again--I prefer to let any genuine participants stick around and sort things out. Sometimes people shove their feet in their mouths. Sometimes hosts take comments out of context. Whatever--I still think it can usually be resolved by communication, not banning.
So there are my two pennies on the precipitating issue mentioned in the invitation, and probably the last thoughts I'll share on that issue since I wasn't there for it. I'm looking forward instead to some interesting discussion related to the 10 Key Values, Green candidates, etc.

Thanks Mutiny for the invite...thought I was a person non-grata for my scepticism about certain matters in another group. But I have earned my green creditials the hard way by digging, planting, harvesting and eating. By planting over four hundred trees here in the last eleven years...and still planting as the world needs its lungs...by recycling long before it became a fashion statement...I remember my oldest coming home very fired up from Uni and saying we had to get into re-cycling...till we took her through her childhood and showed that we had always lived that way...here's a tip from the tip...see washing machines...the glass in the doors make the best bowls you could have...I have a stack of then rescued before they went to the crusher and every villiage do they get fiolled with patatoe salad..own patatoes natch.
And just to prove my re-cycling skills today as some of you maybe aware saw the birth of our newest grandson..our second (wt 9lbs, red hair..doing fine) I find having grandchildren doesn't half recycle the old parenting skills...cacth you all later.
There is some VERRRRY FUNNY STUFF going on with the "other" so-called "Green Party" group on Care2! Methinks it is more KARL ROVIAN "DIRTY TRICKS"!
That group USED to be alright, a regular Green Party group -- until this "Sustainable Louisa" took over as host!!! Then, the group COMPLETELY CHANGED!!!! IT WAS {and IS} NO LONGER GREEN!!!!! By any stretch of the imagination! I call that a "Hostile Takeover"!!!!!!!!!!
Well, we kindof got a CLUE when BOTH I, AND ERIC S., GOT KICKED OUT OF THE GROUP!!!!!! I assure you, no "personality differences" or "rudeness" or anything like that! IT WAS OUR GREEN IDEOLOGY! I.e., no racism, no sexism, no nukes, no war, etc.......
Care2 management so far "does not want to get involved". However, I have told some of my Green Party friends who have RUN FOR OFFICE on Green Party tickets in Seattle -- and they are to say the least, DISGUSTED at this "thing" that calls itself the "Green Party" on Care2!!!!! {I think Care2 could be in Legal danger for "FRAUD" and "MIS-REPRESENTATION" -- but, what do I know?????????}
The problem is, this is going to CONFUSE people who naively join the Green Party group thinking it's what it says it is. This is something, by the way, that COINTELPRO used to do to the Left back in the '60's and '70's; set up fake "Peace" and "Labor" and "Civil Rights" groups with similar names as the real ones; to siphon off potential activist members into a DO-NOTHING group!!!!! Then, they, the new members, would get "dis-illusioned with Activism", etc. That was the point! I RECOGNIZE THAT WELL-KNOWN TACTIC HERE!!!!!!!!
Please PASS THIS AROUND if you can, as NEITHER ERIC NOR I, ARE ALLOWED BACK INTO THE "GREEN PARTY" GROUP TO TALK TO ANY DIS-GRUNTLED MEMBERS!!! Yes, I guess we are banned by them for life!!!!! Snif, snif!!!!! Boo hoo!!!!!

The Green Party, weird as it sounds, under the leadership of "Sustainable", is in effect an ANTI-Green party; spewing propaganda for the OTHER side!!!
As I said, I have been around the track a few times. I am 72 years old. I was extremely active during the 1960's. And I know a thing or two about COINTELPRO and how it operates!!!!!!!
Yes, innocent young folks will go to that "Green Party" and find it is SEXIST, RACIST, AGAINST FREEDOM OF SPEECH, and Goddess knows what else. Then, ya see, they will think "all Greens are like that"!!!! COINTELPRO "DIRTY TRICKS"!!!!!!! Ya sees, now???????????????

Speaking of being registered Green -- The Green Party in Seattle, and my friends in the Washington State Greens who have actually run for public office here, KNOW ABOUT what is going on with the "phoney Green Party" and "Sustainable" as its host. THEY TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY REPUDIATE the actions and the ideology of the so-called "Green Party" host!
Also, a letter was sent to the Green Party in Great Britain. {"Sustainable" is actually British, it appears.} THEY ALSO, ON PAPER, REPUDIATE THE ACTIONS AND IDEOLOGY OF THIS SO-CALLED "GREEN PARTY", as a FAKE and as contrary to all British Green Party principles.
THIS is why I have the nagging suspicion, that maybe THIS COULD COUNT AS FRAUD AND AS MIS-REPRESENTATION. And maybe HURT CARE2 DIRECTLY if it isn't dealt with!!!
After all, what if something on Care2 calling itself "The Democratic Party" came out and said it was for Satanism or for lynching or for pedophilia??? Wouldn't that be a FRAUDULENT MIS-REPRESENTATION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY???? Couldn't that phoney entity calling itself the "Democratic Party" then be SUED FOR FRAUD???????? Obviously, some Rovian "Dirty Tricks" to smear the Democratic Party on Care2, wouldn't ya say?????????? {And could Care2 be sued too, if it knew and did nothing about it????? I ain't a lawyer!}

I live in Kansas, where only Democrats and Republicans have ballot access (I know; how messed up is that.) I'm a huge Cynthia McKinney fan, and have supported her financially to the best of my ability, FWIW. I am here to learn; I hope I articulated that properly about Rep. McKinney, but mean no harm if I didn't. I see plenty of friends here, so that's great!

Kathleen, before you remove yourself from that phoney-baloney "Green Party" -- you {and others!} could POST SOMETHING VERY "GREEN" AND SEE IF "SUSTAINABLE" REMOVES IT. If ya wanta take the trouble. Then, ERIC COULD USE THAT AS ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION as he is getting together a "case" to SHOW CARE2 IN A WAY THAT THEY CAN'T STAY IN DENIAL LIKE THEY ARE NOW.
This is merely a suggestion! We will I think get plenty of such documentation! There are lots of "victims" out there on Care2!!! {But, don't clue in "Sustainable" that we are building a case -- not yet!}

I joined the Green Party of Washington State when Dennis got the shaft from the democraps. I may have always been a green.
I have not yet been kicked out of the other green group, I don't spose I've ever posted there, either.
I don't spend much time in care 2 groups. I don't have time for games.
I'm busy out in the streets, on the phone, etc.
