Brandon Rhode, a brain damaged young man executed 9/27/2010, was reportedly tortured to death. The state reportedly used faulty sodium thiopental,an anesthestic that is one of three injections used in executions. The US supplier for sodium thiopental, Hospira, stopped manufacturing the anesthetic in summer 2010, forcing U.S. executioners to look for the drug elsewhere. The anesthetic used in executing Brandon Rhode and Emmanuel Hammond in Georgia and Jeffrey Landrigan in Arizona was purchased from Dream Pharma, a one-man British wholeseller operating in the back of a driving academy. Reprieve, a British anti-capital punishment organization, begun legal proceedings against British pharmaceutical regulator, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA), for refusing to recall all Dream Pharma’s sodium thiopental in the face of clear risk that the drug is faulty. If successful, the case may halt executions in Arizona and many other states indefinitely. Descriptions of the men's agonizing deaths are at the Reprieve.org link below:

Photo of Brandon Rhode, brain damaged 31-year-old white male was executed by the State of Georgia September 27, 2010, tried to commit suicide on the day originally set for his execution. Links and photos AIMI uses for advocacy are regularly removed from Internet access. I placed Brandon's photo at this strand in September, but it became unavailable. Everyone who is proud of execution should not mind looking into Brandon's eyes, which are now forever closed thanks to poisons purchased by Georgia taxpayers.

Brandon Rhode was executed on Mon., Sept. 27, at 7:00 p.m. I met on the steps of Georgia's Capital Building with other capital punishment opponents as the brain damaged young man was murdered by the State. The handout by Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty - http://www.gfadp.org/ - states:
Brandon was barely 18 a the time of the crime. He was born with fetal alcohol syndrome to a mother who was addicted to alcohol and various drugs, including LSD, marijuana, and Quaaludes. His childhood was unstable and filled with violence and many forms of abuse. His history of trauma and lack of consistent of positive adult role models accounts for significant developmental delays in his transition from adolescence to adulthood. MENTAL HEALTH EVALUATIONS OF BRANDON SINCE THE CRIME, BY BOTH STATE AND DEFENSE CLINICIANS, SHOW HE HAD LONG-STANDING ORGANIC BRAIN IMPAIRMENTS WHICH AFFECT NORMAL FUNCTIONING IN AREAS OF JUDGMENT, IMPULSE CONTROL, PLANNING, AND APPRECIATION OF CONSEQUENCES.
Brandon had behavior and attention problems since he was a very young child, including alcohol and drug abuse since age 11, along with more subtle impairments detected by later testing . . .
Pray and advocate for America to stop killing people, especially the mentally ill.

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Supreme Court delayed the execution Tuesday of [Brandon Joseph Rhode] who attempted suicide hours before he was to be put to death by injection on September 21, 2010. Rhode, 31, tried to slit his wrists and his throat, according to his attorneys who want to halt the execution with a new mental competency challenge. Rhode's attorney Brian Kammer said the attempted suicide proves Rhode was "incompetent" and executing him violates the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment. "He's utterly terrified and just hopeless," said Kammer. "He was very morose, frightened and subdued. This was a product of him just being in terror, of losing hope altogether." RHODE'S EXECUTION WAS RESCHEDULED FOR LATER THIS WEEK. SOME REPORTS SAY FRIDAY AT 9:00 A.M., AND SOME SAY THURSDAY AT 2:00 P.M.

Tuesday, Sept. 21 - Scheduled execution date of Brandon Rhode. Letters and messages to the Georgia Pardons and Parole Board are encouraged. Capital punishment continues the unequal application of criminal prosecution and punishment which targets the poor and communities of color. Innocent people like Todd Willingham are sometimes executed, and Troy Davis is still on Georgia's death row. Thomas Arthur is on Alabama's death row although his DNA test results showed he does not match any crime scene evidence tested. Decent people everywhere should protest capital punishment. For more information, go to Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty website at this link - http://www.gfadp.org/ - There is a complete list of vigils around the state. Please write:
