Introductions... a new thread... February 28, 2005 4:59 PM

Hello to all... This group is in transition, and so many of the threads are now archived that I thought it might be a good idea to start over by introducing ourselves... or saying hello again if you've already done that. It will be wonderful to see who is here, working to make the world both more beautiful and more meaningful. Welcome to everyone... This space is a blank canvas and we can create whatever we like right here.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Oh yeah, me... February 28, 2005 5:08 PM

I'm a jewelry artist working in hammered silver and copper. I live in Two Rivers, Alaska, some 37 miles from Fairbanks. For many years I wrote for a living, and I felt I made a difference in the world that way because I wrote about chldren's issues, poverty, education... But I burned out on that career. Now it feels good to use my hands more than my head to create, and I love having something to hold when I'm done. For two years, until fairly recently, I coordinated an active peace group that started during the run-up to the Iraq war, and almost all of my energy was directed there... demonstrations, organizing, planning and hosting concerts and lectures and film fests. I neglected my jewelry during that time, as well as my own finances, so I have since pulled back from that kind of activism and returned to the bench. However, it is imperative to me that whatever work I do support not only me, but the issues and people I care about. That's what drew me to this group: a sense that we can use our talents to communicate about issues, raise money for causes, and generally improve the world around us. I hope we'll find ways to inspire and collaborate with each other. I look forward to getting to know all of you.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi My name is Susan Kelley and I live in Massachusetts and am a watercolor Artist and have my paintings in my gallery on care2.com and would love to make new friends and have them sign onto my friends as I have none because I am new.  I love to paint and try to paint everyday as well as care for my parrots.

My children are grown and gone from the house so it is just my hubby and myself and our parrots and yorkshire terrier.  So, I keep busy painting and working on the computer in here.  There aren't enough hours in a  day.  I am also involved in law enforcement as a retired police officer, but still involved as it is never far away...  So please visit my gallery susan Kelley and let me know what you think of my paintings.  Please sign on as a friend as I need friends to start getting green stars and friends.  Thank you very much.

Welcome! March 25, 2005 12:50 PM

Hi, Susan, and welcome! I just looked at your watercolors... Stunning, especially the birds. I just returned from a workshop on enameling, and while there I discovered watercolor enamels. What a joy! I've never painted in my life, but now this is something I really want to pursue. As I go forward, I'll surely want to ask you questions.

Is there a particular cause you are interested in supporting with your artworks?

You'll find the folks at Care2 very friendly and will have buddies here in no time. This group is a little slow at the moment, but with a little help and attention we can pick it back up.

Be well,
Kristin

Hi April 29, 2005 2:46 PM

Hi, I do pencil work and dabble in watercolor and acrylics. I don't have any artwork online yet. Most fundraising work I do is for animal causes. I started a national animal rescue group. That is online and you can check it out at http://www.orgsites.com/in/naal

I've been on Care2 for a while but I haven't been here for some time due to an injury, but I'm back now and really busy catching up.

Welcome back, Mandy! April 30, 2005 1:15 AM

Just took a look at your site, and it's a great cause! I lost a dearly loved cat (she was my kid for 14 years) in a house fire, so was really happy to see the picture of Silver.

I'm glad you're here. Let us know what you'd like to see from this group... We've been kinda slow lately.

Glad you're here... As you can see, not a lot of activity here, so any post is welcome! New threads are even better.

I understand why you did what you did with Art2Art... Have you had success at getting more activity in your group since then?

Introductions May 30, 2005 8:00 PM

Hello, I am glad to see this group and become a part of it. I am a visual artist and a poet. My paintings and drawings are mostly about children and currently, I am involved in a production based on my art and writings. "Songs of My Childhood" is a raw and poawerfule tale of child abuse and its effects on the life of the individual.
It has received great response from audience members and most incredible is that the mother of a murdered child came to this performance. People who are coming are sharing their own experiences with me and thanking me for doing this. I have created products that will go to support my work in child abuse prevention. I go to homeless shelters and offer seminars in Creative Parenting in my efforts to empower mothers to love and protect their innocent children from abuse and neglect and to enhance the bonding experience between parent and child.
So, I am glad to have come across this group that believes in sharing their passion for the betterment of humanity

I hear a sinking call,

heavy rain sheets

of divine artistic wisdom

fellin’ ove’ wrung-out oppressed

and castrated, almost grooved machineries.

My body: dicks, %#&!*% and asses

steel pinheads control

my ways.

Think stained-glass, touch rappe’ dreams,

‘lift up wrists’ vs. ‘eternal separation,’

the emmas, the henrys, the king jrs., the malcom x’s,

‘no tyrant hand shall smite.’

And Here’s to question mr. greentwood:

how free you think we know we are

when one cannot ever question it to oneself?

It rolls and rolls the tv shows,

with Smiley beautiful beings

selling the world behind their gods,

I heard there’s no such a cuffin,

how lovely their permanent puritan shrouds.

Skydom roofs protecting these fools

off the records, you got your marines

loaded with nukes for the good of these free,

laws for we few reversed in a gig,

little girls may never see,

read or conceive.

There’s mo' than plain tea

or material consumption in Katrina,

perchance a daily natural catastrophe

shall give generosity a genuine exit.

here’s to Revolt your hair

and fire the status quo square,

pink ladies freeze yer color

as Women dress colorless pain

and classless neon skins

that may lead others to kill.

Wars are not necessary,

we tell the genetic pigs

as headlines popped up ‘terror-alert elevated’

headlines in return

on new justice robertson’s fireworks head.

uprising Thoughts

in my prose, in my rose

in this poem

leaping, vaulting from their side,

I smell filth from the mouths

of holy uniforms

between 'ame' and 'rika''s

‘braggin balance,’

digging craters to bury rights,

yet, amazon fury, you may revolt,

play by the rule of the lionhearted,

buzzin’ the bells of our obliterated philly

deafened your ears by the two-party willy

mustn’t we stir rainbow plasma

in the bones of our wrists

while we scream: my house, my vagina,

my country.

Greetings,

I write novels, or try to, live on the proceeds (in London), have cats and a bicycle, work in a room painted yellow with loads of books, and um, the novels all have a theme in common - mainly the little person threatened by forces much greater than themselves. It's not cozy fiction certainly wouldn't be on Tony Bliar's list of preferred bedside reading. So won't get an OBE or an obituary in the Daily Telegraph. Who'd want 'em anyway? oh, well, tough.

I give you my favourite (Scots) toast:

Here's ta us

Whae's like us?

Damn few, and they're all dead.

Yours,

Hi. I am Jim.  I spend most of my time behind the scenes providing income to charities.  I give any legitimate nonprofit a completely free way to raise money with no effort.  I basically do everything for them to make them successful.  I have over 1,500 of the best-known internet merchants on board.  Whenever anybody shops online, these stores send up to 25% of the sale to either an enrolled charity, or a basket of the best charities serving each cause.  I get great satisfaction knowing that I am able to support so many good charities with the income they so vitally need.

I take Healing photos of nature.Been compared to Georiga O'Keef ...never seen her work or even heard of her. Grew upo in Westen North Carolina,1 son who has 3 step grandchildren and 1 of his own. My greates desire is to someday sell my artwork in order to give a big % to abused children in order to some how some way give them hope, courage, faith, wisdom and a life they feel worth living. Educating them so they do not feel the guilt, or shame for what has happened to them, but to use it to help other's to heal and be all that they can be.

I started my healing gallery in 2005, just after I crashed from depression , due to many years of childhood and 20 years into adulthood of sexual, physical, emotional abuse (somehow, I raised a wonderful 25 year old son & managed to have a very good Corp. Career) until Sept 2004 when I went off the deep end of life due to past and present issues. My Dream....and desire is to help the children who are suffering, Teach all children they have a RIGHT to say NO and STOP the abuse and to help young adults who like I dhave done suffered for 20 - 30 plus years.

My web site is under construction as my soulmate was the one who put it all to gether.Since sept 2004 I have taken 1000's os photos and I am going to change the website around ..but for now

www.morningdovegallery.com    will at least take you there , my best phot's are not published just yet.,....Still waiting  for the Right time and guidence from my inner soul....because my very goal is to help those still sufferring.....just as I do.

Greetings October 18, 2007 9:33 PM

Hi Everyone!

I'm so glad to be a part of this group. Using art to raise both monetery support for casues and to awaken all of humanity to our amazing creative potential is my current passion. I express my own creativity through glass blowing and I am beginning to dabble in photography. However, right now I am dedicating 100% of my time and effort to launching a new artist community that will give any artist anywhere the ability to market their work to millions of potential buyers. Our vision is for a united and supportive community of artists working together to acheive abundance for all. Each member simply submits their artwork and we take care of all of the marketing and promotion. The more artists that join the greater the ability will we have to get our work out to those who will fall in love with it and the more artists we will be able to empower to acheive their dreams. I would love to have each and every one of you as a member of our community. It is way more than a gallery...it is a place for artists to gather, share and support each other. You will be supported every step of the way and can even get discounted mentorship from world-renowned artsists when you become a member. Join now and watch your dreams become reality. Everything is possible when you surround yourself with positive people working together for a common goal.

We are also committed to giving back to our community and donate a portion of each every sale to charity. Additionally, right now we are collecting 10,000 smiles for charity. We will donate at least $1 per smile and are always looking for more donors to sponsor smiles. The funds from the 10,000 smiles project will be given to some fabulous charites that are working to empower homeless youth. If you would like to submit your smiling face and know just by sharing a smile with the world that you are making a difference in the life a young person who needs hope, visit our website www.artisticmeditations.com and you can submit your picture via email.

I can't wait to get to know all of you better!

Getting used to seeing the sun year round after living in Cleveland, OH for most of my life - where the sun goes away in October and may come back in April.

I use the candles for fundraising and currently belong to a Soft Coated Wheaton Rescue Group, volunteer at the local humane society in Hickory. Dogs are my children.

Hello! April 29, 2008 8:07 AM

Hi! I'm Marisa, and I am the Director of Operations for Dance Broward. We are a 501(c)(3) dance troupe that encompasses all studios and schools in the Fort Lauderdale area. While we don't have a charity per say, we partner with other organizations to help their fundraising causes. We have performed at events for both Women in Distress and Food For The Poor. Mostly, the organization was designed to give back in the community, and teach dancers that there is a big world out there that they can help fix.

We are brand new to this site - a terrific find! So hello to all!

Hello May 04, 2008 5:28 AM

Hi, I am new and just thought I would introduce myself.  I live in Alabama.  Married with 3 Children.  I love to try new art forms.  I have been painting for over 35 years.  Landscapes are my favorite.  I also do Fairy art and Gothic.    Sometimes it is just hard to find the time to paint.  My Girls and their Husbands live with us so it is very busy around here.  I want to open a little art co-op in a building on our property.   Then part of all earnings could go towards a few of my favorite causes.  I am mostly into Child welfare and animal causes.  I worked for the Domestic crisis center in our town ,  I support them also.  Well I guess that is about it.   Glad to be here.
