I think if EVERYONE agreed to keep their part of the world tidy we would be better off. My pet hate is people who drop litter outside, there is no need for it and I wouldn't even dream of throwing something on the ground (well, possibly crumbs, or if the kids drop a sweet I make them leave it, but the birds will eat that!!)

You guys must live in clean neighbourhoods because where I live enough litter is dropped daily to cover every house's front hedge with crisp packets, chippie bags and empty cans. Every weekend I clean out the hedge in my back garden and rake out enough trash to fill a large black bag (every weekend).
Having grown up in Australia where we have 'Clean up Australia Day' where every school child is given a bag and gloves and told to clean up the neighbourhood, I have started doing that myself in Edinburgh, and once every couple of months go out around my neighbourhood picking up as much trash as I can carry.
I've been asked by neighbours (but mainly kids) 'why are you cleaning other people's rubbish?' and I answer 'because I live here too, and it looks nicer without it, doesn't it?'. They always smile and answer yes. Adults are actually harder to convince and one woman even crossed the road to walk around me (assuming I must have been on community service, or something, as people walking around with rubbish bags cleaning street rubbish is NOT a common sight here).
Its easy to do, and leading by example has far greater impact than preaching to others. Lets get cleaning!
I am going to move to more environmentally friendly house-hold cleaning products for my spiffy new apartment this summer.... vinegar, here I come!
