Thanksgiving dinner November 28, 2004 6:45 AM

I just joined this list because it looked interesting. How about a discussion of what you had for Thanksgiving dinner? We had the following menu: Un-Turkey (Now & Zen) Stuffed butternut squash Mushroom gravy Mashed Japanese sweet potatoes & carrots Cranberry sauce Macaroni salad Green salad Sparkling cider Andrew's chocolate pie with Hip Whip Pumpkin pie with Hip Whip I think that was it. All vegan and nearly all organic. Peace. Jim  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hey how bout some recipes? November 28, 2004 11:09 AM

That sounds like a fantastic dinner! I just went with the flow and avoided all the food I could this year. I ate with family who are definetly not vegan. I can cook vegan food but have no holiday recipes, with Christmas coming I am giong to be prepared. *yogi*  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

~*~ Greetings And WELCOME HOME Jim ! ... Yummy ! ~*~ November 28, 2004 11:31 AM

~*~*~*~ Jim! You Whipped Up A Scrumptous ALL Vegan Thanksgiving Fest! And, it sounds very welcoming, cozy, delicious, creative! Far~Out Hip GrOoVy... Kind To ALL... Yes Indeed! I'm So Glad {like the song } that you joined our Pad, our Haven, our Circle our Oaisis... our Visions of Peace and Cruelty~Free Organic Green Living. Your Thanksgiving Menu sounds really Wonderful... you must have shared it with the kids and maybe a bit with your cats and dogs too. I didn't have a special Thanksgiving dinner... that day singled out, to me, celebrates the day the white settlers, tricked the native indians and stold their land and then killed or enslaved as many of them as possible. The indians innocently welcomed the white settlers to their feast in all kindness and generosity. Still, I could have had a special Gratitude fest... this is what I call it. I have no biological family or relatives... and the people who do generally spend this day with them {no matter how much they irritate or hate each other lol!} For me... everday can be a Gratitude Day... not gratitude to the cruel and destructive ways of humans. But, Gratitude to the Innocent Ones... such as ALL Giving and ALL Loving Mother Earth ~ ALL Wonderous Precious Sacred Creatures ~ The Wise Trees ~ ALL Nature ~ The Waters and Seas ~ The Elementals and Elements ~ The Gods ~ The Devas ~ The ONENESS ~ The Beyond ~ And Goode Kind Friends ! If I had the company of like~hearted Kind Folk on that day... I would have LOVED to spend it with them! I am seeking to create with such persons a 'Kind Family'. I am even seeking a like~hearted organic vegan roomate to help in this. But, alas, none such as yet surfaced. It looks as if I am going to have to somehow get my message out louder and clearer... We must create and act upon our Vision! Live Simply And Radiantly! This Is Very Important! {Jim, by the way... lol... were there any unique mushrooms in your mushroom gravy? } {{{{{{{{{Hugs!}}}}}}}}} ~*~ PEACE N LOVE! ~*~ ~*~ Shivani ~*~  [ send green star]

Recipes November 28, 2004 4:43 PM

Gosh, I don't remember now. Some were from from Ingrid Newkirk's PETA recipe book. The pumpkin pie was off the organic pumpkin can. The chocolate pie was my mother's (anyone remember the Toddle House chocolate pies?). The Un-Turkey was as is. There are a number of pretty good web sites with vegan recipes. I can list a few if anyone is interested.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Of course the dinner was shared with my kids and our two vegan neighbors AND our companion animals. What do you take me for? Of course we all know what the original Thanksgiving resulted in. Humans (us whites MAY be the worst) have a nasty habit of trashing everything we touch and every one we meet. I don't think that aspect is what we are celebrating. Two years ago we had a vegan potluck around Thanksgiving, but the turnout wasn't so good (the Northeast Kingdom is not a vegan haven). It was fun, however. Shivani, pass the word to the American Vegan Society and PETA asking about potential roommates. We used "ordinary" non-psychedelic mushrooms. Peace. Jim  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi, Shivani, See! The internet can be very misleading. I am widely considered an old curmudgeon by those close to me (I won't go into what others think). Cool? Hardly. My kids think I am an old fogie, among other things. And I am not "intense" about anything. But I do appreciate intensity when the cause it right!!! Again, wishy-washy is inappropriate for the right causes! Personally I feel that there is no more important trait in a human than compassion, REAL COMPASSION, not the George Bush kind. This looks like a fascinating group and I hope to contribute more when I can find time from my family (I include our companion animals here!), peace, political and volunteer activities. Peace and compassion to all! From the soul of the Northeast Kingdom, Jim  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

~*~ Jim... The Very COOL Curmudgeon !!! :) ~*~ December 02, 2004 12:38 PM

~*~ Hi Jim! Well... what do relatives know really? I say that you are not an ol foogey nor really a curmudgeon at all! Our biological family often does not experience us truly or in depth, and takes us and many things for granted. Until they loose us. I've never had relatives or a family. This also has it's effects... I think you are an Awesome Guy with a Beautiful Loving Heart! And, I am very Happy that you are here with us! ~*~ PEACE N LOVE! ~*~ ~*~ Shivani ~*~  [ send green star]
