Clever.  I don't say I'd sew quilts myself , but I did put the article on blue jeans on Facebook.

YAY! September 26, 2009 5:54 AM

This is something I have been dying to do for about 4 years and I finally started! It's really difficult to make a shirt from old t-shirts on yourself... especially if you don't have a tape measure or sewing machine! My first creation I took in by hand... talk about time consuming! I finally was able to get a tape measure and sewing machine, and made my first creation for someone else! It is a sexy tube top made from 2 plain T-shirts.

The first over-sized gray shirt was sewn into a tube and shortened to just below the top of the pants line to be more figure forming. The white shirt got sized to the same measurement around, but left long.

Then I sewed the two together at the top so the white would end up outside and the grey inside... lovely contrast! Starting from the bottom of the white shirt I cut up to make several LONG fringes, taking care not to cut the gray underneath.

I then tied a knot at the top each fringe, and alternately knotted the fringes to make a diamond pattern.

It turned out so nice, fits her well, and soon I hope to get a pic of it on her so I can show it off on Facebook!

This is such a neat idea and more people should run around in a style that is totally different and eco-friendly... plus it cuts down on the cluster of T shirts we have (or feel we have to buy)!

Oh yeah! September 26, 2009 6:15 AM

I also have a plan to make a swimsuit out of a Tshirt I found that has a bunch of beautiful wild animals on the front. On the back across the shoulders it says "Extinction is Forever" which I plan to put right across my butt!

I don't buy paper towels anymore either... I get a lot of promotional T shirts for the tavern my husband and I run. He sells the shirts or gives them as prizes... as well as keeping some himself. Being behind the bar can be messy and stain shirts. Once the shirts get to be too messy to look nice (we run a business... don't want to look like a slob when you serve people!) I cut them up into dish rags/drying towels, cleaning rags, and use them when I make sandwiches as a replacement for paper plates and towels.

I will never have to buy towels in general (except bath towels, of course! LOL!) T shirts come in so many colors, it's difficult NOT to match the colors of the bathroom or kitchen! LOL!

Here's an idea for old t-shirts. A friend just made me one and so I googled to find instructions on the web. This works perfectly! http://www.ehow.com/how_5115952_make-clothespin-bag.html

With a t-shirt you just cut off the sleeves and cut bottom of shirt the length you desire. Flip right side in and sew all openings closed, except around the neck opening. Flip right side out and the bag is finished.
