Thank you Monika and Anneke for the opp to add our meows to the matter.  If you go to the link on that last petition that Anneke posted, the horsedeathwatch link and look at the causes of death, it drives home the senselessness of this industry.  Reasons for death that say "collapsed and died after the race" tell us a great deal about  how hard this is on the horses..   of course there are plenty of others, like "broke leg, destroyed", "broken neck, died".   Also just reading the story above  that breaks down the challenges of the race and how they have become too dangerous for man or beast in recent times drives home the point that this has certainly moved away from, if it ever was, the "sport" that was about watching the beauty and magnificence of these wonderful creatures in motion.  This is about manmade difficulties now that edge out competitors and pose extremely high risk factors for the horses. It has taken on the air of violence just as much as those contact sports like ice hockey.  Just because the spectators are dressed in hats and finery does not make it any less crude than the host of other bloody sports done today for profit and to feed man's release of violence and anger in a "socially acceptable way".        And THEN, on top of that, there are the thousands that are bred to die each year to slaugther because they dont measure up.  The spirits of all these dead horses cry out to us from blood tinged  fields of  green.

All signed. RC, your comment was so spiritual and moving that it made me cry. Bless you and everyone who signed, for speaking out for the beautiful horses.

Thank you so much, Lydia, just speaking from my heart of hearts.  the senseless death makes me weep and that is a GOOD thing.. a painful thing, but it also is good to know that one's heart is still open to tears. A singed conscience leads to dry eyes and hard hearts.  So tis good that our eyes leak and cleanse.
