OSHA Workers Page November 10, 2004 10:44 AM

You have a right to a safe and healthful workplace. That's why Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, requiring employers to provide workplaces free from serious recognized hazards and to comply with occupational safety and health standards. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) wants every worker to go home whole and healthy every day. The agency was created by Congress to help protect workers by setting and enforcing workplace safety and health standards and by providing safety and health information, training and assistance to workers and employers.

Protecting Workers Rights

In the last decade the global expansion of the market economy has produced what some call a “world without walls”. In the rush to find cheaper and quicker ways to produce shoes, apparel, and other labor-intensive goods for the global marketplace, multinational corporations are moving much of their manufacturing to countries where basic legal protections for workers are non-existent and union organizing is prohibited or discouraged. Workers drive the new international economy, yet millions of them—typically women and children—daily endure substandard working conditions ranging from inadequate wages to inhumane hours to life-threatening hazards in the workplace.

I am webmaster of this site February 09, 2005 5:41 PM

This is an up-front socialist website, pro-union and then some. It works to build the struggle against the Iraq war, the movements for women's rights and gay rights, the struggles of people of color, and ultimately to replace the outmoded system of profit for the few with one based on the needs of the many.

Kansas City Labor February 09, 2005 5:44 PM

This site, webmastered by my friend and comrade Bill Onasch, is one that I "steal" from often for Labor Standard. Bill also writes extensively for it, and he's one of the best socialist journalists working today.

The Labor Party February 09, 2005 5:50 PM

The Labor Party was founded in 1996 (I was a delegate from New Jersey) as a working-class alternative to the Democratic-Republican monopoly on political power. Its website is:

The national organizer is Mark Dudzic, a former PACE steward at the Merck plant in Rahway, NJ, and a friend of mine. He is the successor to the late Tony Mazzocchi, who had served as secretary-treasurer of the Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers before their merger with the Paperworkers to form PACE. I never met a more principled and dedicated labor official in my life than Tony Mazzocchi.
