What makes us Taureans
| Blue Label

One of the features assigned to Taureans is that we live through our senses, i.e. we're particularly drawn to good food, a beautiful painting, a pleasing melody... I totally relate to that: when I see, taste or listen to something that I find particularly pleasant I feel absolutely enraptured. What about you?

And do you relate to other Taurean characteristics? (e.g. possessive, down-to-earth, hard-working but also liking some laziness, love for security, etc.)

Dear Taurian,

Yes, you so  so  right. The many traits within us keeps us hopping and confused, because we always have to chose priorities in what we have to do (the loyalty) what we can do(the drive)what we like to do(very seldom).

Maybe that's why I'm BiPolar???!!!!!

I am a Taurus through and through!  I am extremely set in my ways; I am lazy; very hard worker; materialistic; extremely down to Earth; I rationalize everything thrown at me; and I love the finer things (food, music, etc.)

Oh yes...I do live through my senses...I am picky about the foods I eat, the smell of Sandalwood puts a smile on my face from fond memories of a place I used to visit and the sounds of the ocean can so calm me!  I guess if I was to pick an animal I would be like a cat.

It's amazing how many traits we have we in common!

Cor and Cindy, you're right: sometimes it gets a bit too confusing...

Rayne, don't you sometimes feel you rationalize just a little too much? I do, because it's really out of my control. I seldom make any decision before pondering about it (of course, I don't always make the best decision...).

SeaRune, finally I find someone who's picky too!! My friends tell me I'm too picky, but it's just that I really need to enjoy what I'm eating - I don't just eat for a matter of survival: it must be a pleasure as well. I also love the sound of the ocean and just adore cats. They're amazing creatures.

Anytime someone tells me I'm picky I just tell them that I'm not picky...I just know what I like. When I was a child my parents tried to make me eat what was on my plate at meal times.  That just made me hate the food all the more!  No way I'm going to do that to my kids.

Gods, yes, I can rationalize myself into Circles.  I was on the phone the other night and we hit something that was very deep seeded within me and he had questioned why I did it.  I talked for about 10 minutes as to why.  He said I made sense, but sometimes I don't think I do!

Its like I want the other to see it as I do, when I don't even know how I see it!  Rational can be extremely difficult to get used to.  I do try though!

agree with the finer things in life

but also suffer a lot from sore throats and stiff necks...apparently a taurean trait! anyone else find they do as well?
Now what

Dear Taurian friends.

Now that I have read all the statements regarding our being, I wonder what can we do about or rather with it.

Do we write about our experiences of our typical behaviour and exchange antidotes?

Or.........

cor

Hi Cor! I do try not to be so stubborn and as "rational" as I usually am and to stay cool when I get angry, but I haven't found an antidote for that yet. I sure would appreciate to hear if any of you has found a good antidote!

A mate who will say to you "shut up and kiss me" when you are out of control is a definite good start...

We all need one of those... am I right, bulldozers?  I mean... bulls?

Luciano, you're absolutely right! That would be the perfect solution for us.

LoL I can definetely relate to all of those! Especially the picky one. I'm really picky about everything! The clothes I wear, food I eat, music I listen to, etc. That's so funny!

Hi Christina and welcome! Nice to meet yet another "picky" Taurean!

I all Taureans. I have read somewhere that with the stars changing as they do and the movement in the planets, we can now also be either star sign on each side of us. Does that not suck !!! and make me more confused.

But I love who I am, no matter.

I am stubborn yes, bull headed yes, don't mind admitting to that. Always right lol. Always knows everything (and don't dare say I don't), but I also know I am me. Felicity Anne. I usually struggle to get on with Taureans (as they are too much like me) but am just happy as is.

Felicity! I'm sure we'll all get along well here, even though we have strong personalities... (and won't admit ever to be wrong!)

HI  Cor   again,

Wouldn't I love to make  a statement, that would be the oposite to everything, just to put the backs up of all my fellow Taurians

Now  wouldn't that be typical.

Hi Cor! Feel free to stir things up a bit. There's nothing like a good discussion (of course, I'll always be the one who's right...)!
Cor,

Hi there Cor, stir up a bit of fun here. and I WILL ALWAYS BE THE RIGHT ONE, lol.

Perhaps this should start some chirps.

Hi Felicity,

No chirps on my part... I'm very much into religions and I love knowing more about them. But maybe others may not agree.

Take care!

How many Taureans does it take to change a lightbulb?

One, but just TRY to convince them that the burned-out one is useless and should be thrown away.

*ROFL*  That's the sad truth...

I was actually wondering if I was the only one who hates sending things to the trash. I always think "this could be of use for something someday". Needless to say, I tend to accumulate things a little too much (especially magazines, documents of all kinds, pins, whatever...). Do any of you have the same habit?

Oh yeah.  I have stuff from YEARS ago.  I'll look at something and say, "That had a purpose once, it will again." but when it comes to using it, I forget about it, then find it again...  LOL.

Going through my wallet can be frightening sometimes.  I have a reciept in there from 2001.  LOL

HI every one,

I am not sure if i fit the regular taurus definition. I am strongly influenced by my rising sagitarius and my leo moon.

I do keep receipts and useless stuff from a long time ago and recently, i moved from my house where i lived 11 y almost. oh boy. It was a nightmare.

I am also really lazy at times and a hard worker when i need to be.

I love nature and beauty under all its forms.

But i don't care too much about material stuff and objects.

but my apartment is cluttered.

I am very stubborn at times mostly when i know i am right and i am always the one breaking up a relationship but it is hard to let go once the other agrees with me.

I think being a taurus is being a Paradox....

Vero

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one!  Both my wallet and my apartment are just bursting with all kinds of things...

And Vero, like you, I too don't care much about material objects. If someone asked me to choose between diamonds or a nice dinner, a concert or even a trip, I sure know what I'd choose. Wealth is difinitely overrated... Funnily enough, my brother is also a Taurean and he definitely disagrees with me on this. Go figure!

That is EXACTLY how I am.  I was telling my friend that when I get married, I don't want gold bands or even a diamond ring, I want something from the heart.  If it is a simple ring his Mother owned, that he cherished, I'd rather have that, then for him to spend thousands of dollars on a piece of jewelry.

I want to do things...  Go to a museum.  Walk together in the park.  Holding eachother on the couch watching a movie we've seen a hundred times.  That's beauty.  That's what I want to cherish.

Yes, I like what I have, but it means more to me to enjoy Life than an object.  My Christmas/Yule present this year?  I get to meet him.  My family is asking what I want.  I tell them I want Money.  I want to spend my present on him, and being with him, then having a book or another movie.

the bullsTAURUS, the Bull, approx. dates - April 21-May 21
Ruled by: Venus
-- for taste
Symbol: Bull's Head, circle with little horns on it
Keyword: Taste
Element: Earth
Quality: Fixed
House: 2

Flavor: Mint-Chocolate

Grocery store: Taurus are fun to shop with. The tactile nature of Taurus turns a simple trip to the grocery store into a sensory experience. There're melons to thump, tomatoes to squeeze, the mint to smell, and maybe a few fresh cut flowers to pick up, too. I remember being stuck in a Mall with a Taurus, and she had to touch and handle everything. Before she could declare a shirt worthy of purchase, she had to fondle the material to see if it was soft and silky smooth.

Music: Taurus is the most musical of the signs, or so it would seem. A large number of singers and other vocal artists wind up being Taurus. In one example a Radio DJ friend claims she can't hold a tune. Still, she has the silky smooth Taurus voice on the radio, and her job is making music come out of the speakers. So there's that musical bend to Taurus.

Walmart at midnight: Whether shopping for auto parts or swimwear, the Taurus will seem to meander at times in the discount store that is open 24 hours. The Taurus will always swing through the clothing department just to see if there are any good deals, fondling the softer fabrics. The Taurus will also wander through the food section just to see if there are any good deals available. This is due to the the fact that Taurus is most often associated with Venus. It's the Venus which rules good taste. Soft, supple, and very sensual. Don't forget that pleasure is a business to a Taurus.

Brick wall: A Taurus takes one look at an Aries banging his head against the brick wall and decides that it looks like it might hurt. Taurus has a much more refined approach: do nothing, wait and see. Taurus can be rather patient at times, and when confronted with an immovable object, the Taurus is inclined to hang a nice, pretty drape on it and sit himself down to a hearty meal, waiting to see if the problem will go away. Remember, the problem has been addressed by a tasteful drape, or maybe a painting, or, at the very least, a poster that seems to be in good taste.

Bait: Get one of those special Craw Dad plastic things--the newer plastic jobs which have a special, garlic smell embedded in the plastic. Works great. I know, you might find the authentic "feeling" of the plastic a little slimy, but to catch a Taurus, you need something that looks real, feels real, and, most important, tastes good. And that garlic flavor-bacon bait has the taste that a Taurus Bass will crave.

Revenge: The worst thing you can do to a Taurus is be late. Your Taurus date will be there, impatiently stamping his feet, wondering what took you so long, and why didn't you call, and would you like to try this new snack food?

Body part: Neck, throat, ears.

SUN in TAURUS
Taurus is ruled by Venus. In this case, it is the Venus of Beauty and Taste. Along with this sense of beauty and taste, there's a highlighted side to Taurus that I always like to emphasize: sensuousness. This sensual side must always be recognized. There are other things which are important as well, like a strong sense of place because Taurus is always associated with the Second House, and this means home. Or stuff. A Taurus is often defined by his or her personal belongings. Taurus is, of course, the sign of the sensual beast, the one who likes to take forever getting to the good part. Taurus is all business when it comes to pleasure. Food is an important component of the Taurus make up. I have had great success with Taurus when I'm doing a reading, by asking if the individual has any food in her purse or his backpack. My favorite answer has always been, "No. Of course not. Well, there are some breath mints and a half sandwich left over from lunch, just in case I got hungry...."

"Be prepared" -- it's the Boy Scout motto. Another question I like is: "Mint Chocolate is your favorite flavor, right?" Most Taurus individuals respond with, "How did you know?" There are two other common responses: one is, "I got to choose just one flavor?" and the other is "plain vanilla." Taurus. Takes all kinds. But food plays a prominent part with Taurus. The sensual side can drive other signs absolutely crazy with the demands that the Taurus makes. Go shopping for clothes with Taurus -- the Taurus will touch and feel everything, running fingers up and down the silks, gravitating towards the subdued earth colors, pausing and then lingering in the silk department.

If I'm trying to catch a Taurus, I break out silk shirts because the Taurus can't keep her hands off the silk. "It's so soft and smooth," she purrs. A good way to really irritate Taurus is by not being punctual. They do have thing for being on time and having everything just so. One way I like to describe the various signs is by how they deal with obstacles, and in the case off the Taurus, let's say the obstacle is a brick wall, the Taurus does nothing. Maybe put up some drapes, get a lounge, and recline here on THIS side of the wall rather than do anything about it. "Leave that for other signs," says the Taurus. "All that effort looks painful. Here, have another snack." Taurus have refined sense of auditory pleasure as well.

Most Taurus individuals make good singers. In fact, several Taurus individuals are noted composers: Irving Berlin, Brahms, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Willie Nelson, and Tchaikovsky. But for listening, try Mahler's Symphony No. 4.

Famous Taurus people: Willie Nelson (great Texas musician and song writer, singer), April 30, 1933; Duke Ellington, April 29, 1899; Audrey Hepburn, May 4, 1929; Valentino, May 11, 1932; Janet Jackson, May 16, 1966; Cher, May 20, 1946; Talking Heads' David Burn, May 14, 1952.

TAURUS ASCENDANT
You are stubborn, and don't argue about this first point either. You probably enjoy a sturdy physique, and you may not be dynamically active but you have great physical stamina. You are tenacious, but you have difficulty breaking undesirable habits. You can be status-seeking and can be unduly influenced by people more powerful or wealthier than you. You can be resourceful. And pragmatic, too. You are bound to the sensual and likely to be attractive, too. You love good food and fine wine. Party on! You can be dedicated to physical fitness. You will also seek personal comfort. You have a quiet nature but enjoy social occasions. You are attracted to art and music. You may have a pleasant or unusual voice. But alas, you might also be materialistic.

Famous folks a Taurus Ascendant: Charles Addams, Chet Atkins, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Carlos Castaneda, Gary Cooper, Billy Crustal, Bruce Cern, Mia Farrow, Melanie Griffith, Ursala LeGuin, Toni Morrison, Wayne Newton, Bonnie Raitt, and Sigouney (Susan) Weaver.

MOON in TAURUS
Aren't you the difficult one, always requiring tangible proof of affection? Since the Moon is exalted in Taurus, this is particularly strong for you. You have conservative opinions mated with strong physical appetites. How you like your material comfort! It seems like you are overly concerned with social status or wealth, too. You are probably more interested in social pursuits than household, family chores. And you don't want to be coerced into commitments. When things go wrong, you find it hard to accept. Because you are outwardly calm and stable, you appear unapproachable. This lends an aura of self-containment. You actively dislike people who break promises or otherwise prove themselves to be unreliable. And how you love to hold a grudge! !

Notable folks with Moon in Taurus: Ed Asner, Irving Berlin, Bill Blass, Rita Mae Brown, Carol Bunrett, Connie Chung, Bill Clinton, Joan collins, John Connally, David Crosby, Sheryl Crow, Billy Crystal, Jane Curtin, Cameron Diaz, Angie Dickinson, John Dillinger, Robert Downey Jr., Richard Dreyfuss, John Dryden, Bob Dylan, Douglas Fairbank Sr., Michael J. Taurean traits
5 years ago
I think I have quite a few Taurean traits. I love good food and wine. However, I'm not picky - I eat anything (vegetarian). I'm materialistic in a sense that I value good quality. I'm a sensible shopper but when I buy things, I want to get good quality stuff that lasts for years because I've never been into trends. I also have a bad habit of getting attached to my belongings and I find it hard to let them go . Lately, I've tried to learn to save things that I really value and get rid of junk or stuff that I am not going to use again. I can tell you it has required some serious thinking!

Annukka, I'm just like you!! I'm not much into trends, so I prefer buying something that is of very good quality and that I know will last for years. I've recently done that with my furniture: it costed me a lot, but if I'm lucky it'll last for decades!

KEY 5

THE HIEROPHANT OR POPE

TAURUS ─ THE BULL

CREATIVE GENIUS

The INTUITIVE aspect of consciousness is symbolized by KEY 5, THE HIEROPHANT, religious instinct and spiritual requirement, the need to sometimes turn within to seek direction from the realm of Spirit.  The upraised right hand of THE HIEROPHANT or POPE (spiritual leader in either an ancient mystery school or organized religion) blesses the recipient with valuable information of a special or even secret nature as the lower mind (governed by intellect and emotion) symbolically bow before the presence of the HIGHER SELF or higher wisdom.  There is the principle of wholeness embodied in the Higher Self.  When SUPERCONSCIOUSNESS governs the self-conscious and subconscious aspects of mind, protection is part of the deal, more often than not from our own stupidity or ignorance.

As THE EMPEROR, ARIES, or reasoning mind, ideally rules over matters practical and earthly in nature, so THE HIEROPHANT, our intuitive powers within, should be consulted and allowed jurisdiction in circumstances involving emotion and matters of the Spirit.  It is the STILL SMALL VOICE WITHIN that guides each individual along a specific path, regardless of personal belief or religious inclination.  The Voice of the Silence permeates every cell in our body.  The Higher Self faithfully guides each individual in terms of ultimate destiny and purpose when time is taken to LISTEN, one of the most important words associated with KEY 5.

TAURUS is ruled by VENUS, KEY 3, THE EMPRESS, the Goddess, Mother Nature and Patroness of the Arts, which is why TAURUS is such a creative, artistic sign.  The Goddess bestows gifts that please upon all her children in one form or another.  Check out VENUS in your chart.  On the other hand, when talents are left undeveloped and ignored and the promptings of the STILL SMALL VOICE that speaks through subtle though definite aspects of our feelings are likewise disregarded, an individual can end up with a profound sense of regret.  Turning a deaf ear to powerful instincts has been known to contribute to most unpleasant circumstances or conditions arising in the course of a Life.  Primarily because someone didn't pay attention to those feelings deep down inside that he or she should or should not have done or said ... whatever it may be!

That silent voice of the HIEROPHANT is commonly known as INTUITION, the true Revealer of the Mysteries.   INTUITION is truly our biggest fan and greatest helper when we learn to listen and yield to  sublime wisdom.  The HIGHER SELF knows what the HIGHER SELF KNOWS beyond a shadow of a doubt through generating sensations, gut feelings, or sometimes electrical charges that course through every cell of the body.  Learning to LISTEN, to trust your instincts and pay close attention to the TAURUS aspect of your nature will always pay off in dividends.  Listen ... for TAURUS rules money and sensuality, therefore, dividends on either front are usually a highly pleasant part of earthly existence.

Ah, the good things of life, TAURUS to a T!  Comfort, good food, beautiful surroundings, musical notes, a pleasant even seductive voice, especially singing a siren's song, and you fall under his or her unique and magical power.  TAURUS is known to be blessed with a singing voice.  The Gifts of the Spirit can be downright alluring and entertaining.  Soft fabrics appeal to VENUS, the richness of Mother Nature in all her great and grand abundance.  Lush forests, green hills, spectacular landscapes, the seductive sensation of flowers gracing a meadow and the gentle whispering of the Cosmic Mother in a soft breeze is a "gotcha" for most individuals.  The same sensual nature that enjoys all the luxuries and pleasantries of life can be used by the Divine to enrich your life and protect you from harm's way.

In seeking the silence by turning within, the ability to contact the SUBCONSCIOUS governed by KEY 2, THE HIGH PRIESTESS, the MOON, which is exalted in TAURUS comes into play.  The answer you seek can come to you in a variety of ways: spoken, written, or an inspirational idea that comes from a book, movie or even a TV show.  The message of THE HIEROPHANT is stop, look and listen to the prompting from within or above that always prove practical in the final analysis.  More often than not, hindsight on promptings prove valuable after the fact, especially when intuition was not heeded and a  painful life experience happened to be the result.  Why didn't I listen?  Why didn't I say what I meant?  A TAURUS tendency can sometimes be silence when it might be best to say something and not allow smoldering resentment to creep in.  This is one of the zodiacal signs known to hold a grudge, along with CANCER which is ruled by the MOON.  Silence can be golden, but not always.  The can also be shyness in expressing feelings and emotions for fear of rejection or reprisal.

Formal marriage or a business partnership is sometimes indicated by KEY 5, THE HIEROPHANT, a union of forces in emotion or practical matters.   While the reversal indicates unorthodox or unconventional unions: living together without marriage or engaging in a controversial union in business or love.  TAURUS has a tendency to be conventional in matters of the heart or business, practical and down to earth, but there are always exceptions to the rules.

Through the development of talents and skills the financial security TAURUS seeks may well be secured.  Creativity may be expressed in a variety of ways from the arts and sciences to business in a manner great or small.    Banking could appeal, but owning the bank would be better for TAURUS.  Give your TAURUS child a piggy bank and they will find a way to fill it and will no doubt enjoy counting the loot.  When there is enough let them open a bank account, but always encourage this offspring to do what they love and the rest will follow!

Venus

Venus is the ruler of Libra and Taurus. Through Libra we have choices, can see both sides of a situation that they appear to take their time in making up their minds. With Taurus we have the ability to reflect on the past, causing a kind of possessiveness of something that has already gone. Blocking this moment with the past that takes away the love of the moment, also possessions, the love of objects that enhance us in some way.

Also the love of food, but one must take care that food and possession's are not over indulged for that would take away the beauty of the now which Venus stands for.

Venus represents feelings and love, it is the ability to love every thing, which comes into life. To see beauty in all that you encompass, in all that you buy or that surrounds you, It is the beauty of the world where love can be seen every waking moment of your day. The love of the sea or a tree, love of your children or the love of another human being, friends and associates, the love of a pet. This is the love that we also have within, if we are truly happy with ourselves then we feel this love from inside which then radiates into our most immediate environment so that the qualities of Venus plays a part in life now.

Venus also has much to do with relationships, sharing and expressing feelings. It's funny that no sooner have we found a relationship that we become vulnerable, why? Because we have allowed another into our life, and this brings hope and also fear. To love through the Venus vibration one needs to find the missing piece which fits like a jig-saw puzzle, this should be some-one who compliments your personality and your needs, to balance and enhance your spirit, so that you become whole and fulfilled beings.

Venus has a process which has already been formulated and it is just this that once love comes to us we can think of a thousand reasons just why we shouldn’t have it. We need to fill our lives full of love, to do things which we love doing, if the dishes can be washed with love, cooking can have that special ingrediance. No need to go and buy a pound of love its free, you can have as much as you want.

We need to feel comfortable inside; this is created when one can see the beauty that surrounds us, the universe and the beauty that is within. When one can see love and beauty every where, then this is precisely what we attract, and become grateful for living and happy to relate in the now.

Venu ruler of taurus

Venus - Ruler of Taurus

Born from the white foam of the sea, Venus is the goddess of beauty, love and pleasure. The brightest of the planets, known to us as both the Evening and the Morning Star, belongs to her. It governs harmony, friendship, affection and relatedness of every kind - as well as sensuality and lust. Its position at birth shows how you love, and whom.

While the Moon is the symbol of the mother, and of all maternal love and caring, the love goddess, Venus, is a beautiful young woman. Venus's sign and house position, as well as the links it makes to other planets, show how you attract others to you and your attitude towards romance. It softens any planet that it touches. In a woman's chart, its sign reveals your type of femininity and sexuality, while in a man's chart it indicates what kind of woman you are drawn to. It also shows what you find beautiful, harmonious and desirable and what gives you pleasure. Venus also rules the arts and music.

It is very true that Taureans need a good mate to shut them up.  My husband who is a Gemini has to tell me I am a volcano exploding.  I am very stubborn not materialistic though.  I don't like change very much at least in my little world.  I do suffer and have my whole life from soar throats.  I think we lose our cool easily because we are so passionate in what we believe.  That's all for now.  The lazy side is coming out in me.

I hear you, Shelley... Sometimes winning over our laziness is not that easy...
Luck and good fortune
Luck is defined as that which happens to a person...an event, good or ill...which affects an individual's interests or happiness and which is deemed causal. It is a series of such events which are regarded as occurring by chance, fate or fortune...often, a person's habitual or characteristic fortune. It has been said that luck is better than skill.

In Greek Mythology, the Goddess of Luck is Tyche, known to the Romans as Fortuna. She is often portrayed holding a double-sided rudder that could steer mankind to good or bad luck. She also frequently holds a cornucopia (horn of plenty) to symbolize prosperity and is sometimes blindfolded to indicate that luck is a matter of "blind chance." In addition, Tyche occasionally sports wings to symbolize how good fortune might be fleeting. A ball, representative of the manner in which luck "rolls according to chance" is often associated with this Goddess. Tyche is said to teach the paradoxical message that life is essentially a game of dice, determined by chance, and that nothing is ever set in stone. No matter how certain an individual might be that something will happen, there is always an underlying element of chance, and it would be wise to expect the unexpected. Instead of submission to Fate, Tyche provides the encouragment for individuals to take things into their own hands, thus making their own destiny. In was in Tyche's temple that the first set of dice were dedicated by Palamedes, perhaps indicating the capriciousness of life and luck...and the fickle manner in which the fortunes of mortals are often decided.

"Luck affects everything;
Let your hook always be cast;
In the stream where you least expect it,
There will be a fish."
-- Ovid --

Number
The lucky number for Taurus is six (also known as the Hexad). It is the mystic number of Venus and a number which Taurus shares with those individuals born under the Sign of Libra. Six represents family and symbolizes the home, parents, healers and counselors. It is representative of domestic bliss, responsibility, compassion, marriage and devotion. Six is also associated with fraternity and brotherhood...or sorority and sisterhood. It is the common bond of closeness between people, representing love, nurturing, harmony and justice. Six is the perfect divider of the circle and the radius of a circle divides its circumference into the six points of the hexagon to form the Seal of Solomon...the hexagram. In geometry, six is the hexagon...two triangles which share a common side. Similarly, in mathematics, six is two threes, also known as the second perfection. A mystic number represented in nature by the formation of crystals, honeycomb, snowflakes and flowers, six is a happy number with the power to ward off evil. It is said the the cycle of life has six periods (birth, growth, decay, death, absorption and metamorphosis) and that there are six states of man (love, chastity, death, fame, time and eternity). Six is also perfection in the form of power, expressed by the symbolism of six equilateral triangles in a circle. In a biblical sense, the world was created in six days (man being created on the sixth) and in Jewish tradition, took six thousand years. Six is the number of points found on the Star of David and in the Cabala, it is the center of equilibrium...the junction of two perfect triangles. This number has also been designated as the mark of the Beast...the Anti-Christ. In China, the number six was, above all else, the number of Heaven. In Mayan lore, six was considered to be unlucky...the day of the rain and storm god and the number of death. If the divisors of six are added (1+2+3), the answer is the number six...there is hardly any other number which will give such a result. Not only does adding the divisors make six, so does their multiplication (1x2x3). It is also the center of the first five even numbers (2-4-6-8-10) and is often called a "pivoting number" which creates a cycle of sorts.

In biblical numerology, six is the Number of Man. Man was created on the sixth day and labors for six days only. The Serpent wasalso created on the sixth day. The Sixth Commandment is, "Thou shalt not murder." Six words are used for man: Adam; ish; Enosh; gehver; anthropos and anar. In addition, 6 x 6 = 36. 36 + 35 + 34 + 33 + 32 . . . 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 666. 666 is the number of the Antichrist, meaning that the name of the Antichrist in Greek adds up to 666. This is generally considered to be a mockery of the Trinity.

Six is feminine in nature and, when associated with Taurus, resides in the Second House of Money and Possessions, governing all things lucrative. It is the number of luck and chance...life and strength...honesty and beauty...a number which is capable of both creation and destruction. In short, it may have an equally strong tendency toward evil as it does toward good...toward rebellion as it does toward union with God. It is the number of mutual hating and giving...of mystic destiny. The colors associated with the number nine are all those within the blue family. Its peak tends to be during the daylight hours, with its natural element being earth and its associated gems being emeralds and turquoise.

Color

The lucky color for Taurus is green. Green is one of the colors associated with Venus, this Sign's ruling Planet. In a positive sense, green suggests nature...plants and forests...life, stablity and restfulness. On the negative side, some tones of green can suggest decay...fungus and mold...toxicity or artificiality. Green should never be worn on serious or practical occasions. It has a soothing effect on the nerves and has come to symbolize prosperity. Green is representative of nature as a whole, the environment and vigor. However, it can also symbolize jealousy and envy. In addition, green has also been regarded as the color of eternal life, as seen in evergreens which never change their color from season to season. This color is often used in hospitals because it is thought to be easier on the eye and aids in lowering the stress levels of both patients and caregivers. Green it is believed to an unlucky color for those who are about to be married, but is otherwise considered lucky if an individual wishes to attract attention. Green has the passive and harmonic oval form.

Green strikes the eye in such a way as to require no adjustment whatsoever. Therefore, it is a restful color. Being located in the centre of the spectrum, it is the color of balance...a concept which carries more importance than many realize. When the world surrounding an individual contains plenty of green, it indicates the presence of water and thus, little danger of famine. Therefore, humankind on a primitive level becomes reassured by green. The negative aspect of this color can indicate stagnation and, if used incorrectly, will be perceived as being too bland. Green is a feminine color of passiveness and peace, wisdom of nature, eternal life and hope. However, it can also be perceived as defensive and cautious...weakening and static. In Christian worship, art, architecture and design, green symbolizes the breaking of shackles and freedom from bondage. It is the color of fertility. In Christian symbolism, it represents bountifulness, hope and the victory of life over death. It is one of the colors associated with Christmas and the long season of the Trinity in Summer. In heraldry, green is symbolic of youth and hope.

Positive Qualities Of Green: Harmony - Balance - Refreshment - Universal Love - Rest - Restoration - Reassurance - Environmental Awareness - Equilibrium - Peace
Negative Qualities Of Green: Bordeom - Stagnation - Blandness - Enervation

Taurus individuals are also drawn to deep blues, violets and occasionally, pastels or florals, preferring soft patterns that are suggestive of nature or natural things. They are also attracted to soothing colors that created harmony and peace, such as the calming hue of lilac. The colors of Taurus often have luscious of sensuous associations. Taurus natives also benefit from the color yellow, which inspires the mind and helps to offset the inherent tendency of this Sign toward indolence and apathy.

Flower

The lucky flower for Taurus is the violet, the common name of a group of flowering plants. The blossoms of this flower are generally considered to be among the most attractive of all cultivated or wild blooms. Violets can be found throughout most of the world. Certain varieties bear white and yellow flowers, but the blue and purple violets are generally viewed as the most favored. The leaves of the violet are considered to be rather palatable and can be used to make salads, candies and jellies. The name is said to be derived from vias, which means "wayside." The violet is sometimes called the Flower of Modesty because it hides its blooms within its heart-shaped leaves. It is also referred to as Our Lady's Modesty because it was said to have blossomed when the Virgin Mary said to the Angel Gabriel, who had come to inform her she was to bear the Son of God, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord." Monks in the Middle Ages perceived this flower as the symbol of the trinity in their three colors and it was once believed that God gave the plant its heart-shaped leaves as a medicinal aid for cardiac disease.

The violet is associated with a number of different symbolic meanings. The blue variety is used as a token of friendship and rememberance, while the purple violet symbolizes faithful love. Alpine violets are used in bouquets to request candid words...originally a Sylvan custom, although its source has become obscured with the passage of time. Due to the reclusiveness of their tiny yellow blossoms, wood violets represent secrecy. The flaming violets of River's Rest are said to be magical creations rather than natural flowers, but they too have earned a place among floral symbolism, representing intellectual brilliance. Often, the violet is considered to be a flower of ill and was once believed to encourage fleas to move into the home. However, it is also credited with a some positive qualities. For example, it is said that to wear a violet around the neck can prevent drunkenness and it was once used to guard against deception, as well as to create an atmosphere of trust and honesty. The violet was the favored flower of Mohammed and of Napoleon Bonaparte...indeed, supporters nicknamed him "Corporal Violet, the little flower that returns with Spring." His wife, Josephine, wore these flowers at their wedding ceremony and on each anniversary, Napoleon would send her a boquet of violets. The blossoms were also showered on her coffin when she died and before being exiled to the Island of St. Helena, Napoleon visited Josephine's tomb, where he picked violets growing at her graveside...placing the blossoms in a locket which was found around his neck upon his death. Is is said that to dream of violets indicates an advance in life. Although basically considered to bring good luck when given as a gift, violets that bloom in Autumn are thought to foretell of epidemics or death which will follow within the year and is considered in some cultures to be a funeral flower. Once thrown in graves for remembrance in rural England, the mourners also carried violets to protect themselves against poisonous exhalations while in the cemetery. In Ancient Greece, so many violets were placed in a grave that they sometimes almost completely concealed the body. In the language of flowers, the basic meaning of the violet is modesty, purity and charm against evil. However, the blue violet also means watchfulness and faithfulness and is associated with the phrase, "I'll Always Be True." The white violet is associated with the phrase, "Let's Take A Chance On Happiness," while the yellow violet conveys modest worth.

According to Greek legend, the violet was created by Zeus, who was in love with a nymph named Io, daughter of Inachus, a River God. In order to hide Io from the suspicious eyes of his wife, Hera, Zeus changed the nymph into a white heifer, but Io began to weep bitterly because of the harshness of the coarse common grass she was forced to eat in bovine form. Thus, Zeus decided to create a new and more suitable plant on which the delicate Io could feed by transforming her tears into the sweet-smelling violet. In Roman myth, it was Venus who made the violet blue. She had been disputing with her son, Cupid, as to which was more beautiful...herself or a bevy of girls...and Cupid, with no fear of his mother, declared it to be the maidens. This statement sent Venus into such a rage, that she beat her rivals until they turned blue and were transformed into violets. In English folklore, a tale sets forth that King Frost felt lonely in his huge ice palace, where everything was frozen and lifeless. Thus, he sent his courtiers out to search for a lovely girl who would melt his frigid heart and bring him happiness. The courtiers found a very shy maiden named Violet and presented her to the King. He immediately succumbed to her charm and fell in love with the gir. Although once a strict and passionless monarch, King Frost slowly became gentle and warmhearted, vowing to his people that the harsh and endless winters of his realm would become milder for one half of each year. Such was the tender effect that Violet had upon the King. She pled with him to allow her to visit her people once more and because of the love her bore her, King Frost granted her wish to reside with her family each Spring. His sole condition was that she could only return to them in the form of a flower for part of the year...coming back to her husband's icy realm each Winter.

Day

The lucky day for those who fall under the jurisdiction of Taurus is Friday. The origin of this day derives from Norse Mythology and Frigg, a kind and beautiful Goddess who was married to Woden or Odin, the most powerful of the Norse Gods. Together, Frigg and Odin watched the happenings all over the world. Frigg was the Goddess of Nature. She controlled everything smallest hamlet to the largest jungle and was also the Goddess of Love and Marriage, as well as being the Goddess of Housewives, the Sky and the Clouds . Those who worshipped Frigg held her in such high esteem that they named a day in her honor, calling it Frigedaeg, which later became known as Friday.

The Saxons originally referred to Friday as Frigga's Tag, which is also where the German nation gets their modern name for the name. Frigga and Woden had seven sons who are reputed to be the founders of the seven Saxon Kingdoms of England...Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex, East Anglia, Essex, Kent and Sussex. Alghough Frigga was permitted to share the throne with Woden, she spent most of her time spinning and looking after the welfare of mortals who lived on Earth. She was also known to smooth the paths of sweethearts and married people. Another of Frigga's duties was to spread knowledge on the administration of justice. Those humans who had to decide legal issues and cases would look to Frigga for guidance. In addition, defendants in legal cases would call upon her to help them prove their innocence. Thus, this Goddess was responsible for teaching and symbolized the fact that wisdom cannot exist without learning.

Friday is viewed as one of the most popular days. The love for this day is undoubtedly engendered by the fact that in the Western World, it is the last workday of the week. In predominantly Moslem cultures, Friday is considered a Holy Day...a day to gather in the mosques at noon for prayers and to spend the day in religious contemplation. Since mankind's early history, a Friday that falls on the 13th day of a month has been thought to be unlucky. Historians theorize that this may be because there were thirteen persons present at the Last Supper of Christ and that this number proved unlucky. It was also on a Friday that Jesus was crucified. The Friday crucifixion spawned an Eastertime holiday known as Good Friday. The appellation "good" was likely a corruption of the word "God." Therefore, Good Friday was originally, God's Friday...the day Christians believe God showed his love for the world by relinquishing his son. According to an ancient rhyme, Friday's child is loving and giving.

Taurus' Soul Level

Love is paramount in a Taurian's life and rightly so, with Venus, the planet of love and beauty, as your ruler.

You instinctively know how to get your creature comforts met. Taurians always seem to be able to materialize a cup of tea and a muffin, no matter what the circumstances. Magnetism is a priceless gift. A Taurus is always able to attract a partner. With your powerful will and the natural instinct to make safe boundaries, you (magically, it seems) form, develop, and advance whatever you need and want in the physical world. But if you have self-doubts about your worthiness or you are in a situation that frightens you, your diseased ego drags you down into a deep sense of helplessness. You create a private hell where no one and nothing can please you or divert you until you become emotionally spent and physically drained. It is then and only then that you grudgingly change your perspective.

You have a deep-seated emotional need to control your environment and hold on for dear life to what seems safe at the time; you can trap yourself in a world so narrow that your creative energy is limited. When you've made a romantic choice it's difficult to leave even if the relationship is intolerable. When your imagination is active, it is not a purely mental process, for you are inseparable from your biological processes. Your emotions and feeling are there to guide you. Your Taurian sensitivity gives you the ability to sense the subtleties that connect the mind and body. There is a resonance between the two, but when you are afraid of losing your physical comfort, in emotional turmoil, you grab hold of the status quo. The old saying "The streets of hell are familiar" describes your compulsive search for security at any cost.

Taurus is a sign of survival. You have the power to sustain the worst blows, and you're never down very long. With your gift of manifestation you can always magnetize a new relationship or job or friend, or anything else for that matter. But when it's time to let go of something or someone you can go, into a downward spiral of compulsive reaction that keeps you holding on till hell freezes over. It is Taurus that rules the function of unfolding these waves of energy into the world of objects and sequential time. You are gifted with an inherent potential for abundance. If you focus on insufficiency and inadequacy, you shut the door to this great source that reaches past the limited mind into fulfilling your every need. You must understand that at a deep level you are inseparable from the flow of nature and there is no division between the mental and physical worlds. You attract what you think. Thoughts create matter and form follows function. What you are imaging will soon be reality. Heaven always hears you so be careful of what you ask for. What you desire, even if it's stuffed way down in the subconscious, is slowly being formed into the material.

Taurus' Most True Self

Your Nature is Earthy and Practical
The earth is one of the rulers of Taurus and greatly affects a Taurian's disposition.

The earth's chief characteristic is magnetism. There is an electrical pull on our bodies that forces us to feel our bodies. Your body reacts greatly to this constant pull and it can bring you down emotionally and make you feel tired. This is why Taurus is so slow and looks for comfort more than other signs. Comfortable settling into your own territory, you know you can draw on what you need. You like to create a space and hold on to it; change is hard on you.

You want to return to the original Garden of Eden where there was no shame. Taurus is an earth sign that rules the function of sensing. You desire the purity and innocence of a primal past - the exaltation of the senses and emotions over reason and intellect. But above all else Taurians yearn for unity and wholeness. In your gift of magnetism you want to pull the fragments together, heal the wounds of separation from the divine, and become at one with the universe. Taurians naturally understand that communion with nature is necessary to survival. You know that although love is a feeling it is also the noblest form of knowing. You are a primal being, a basic self-personality, and want to be immersed into the sensuality of life.

When you fall in love, you become romance personified and feel an urgent need to merge. Being in a relationship is paramount to your sense of well being, right alongside your desire to have physical safety and financial abundance. The desire to unite, to absorb another person into your own essence, is constantly on your mind. You don't like to be alone.

Taurus GlyphThe second sign of the zodiac, Taurus is ruled by Venus. The glyph represents the Bull, Taurus's symbol. The sign is concerned with the manifestation of the self, with basic needs being foremost. Ruled by Venus, Taurus personalities tend to be driven by their affections.

Taurus is the direct opposite of the Aries character. Taurean people tend to be slow, methodical, practical and reserved. They are also stolid, tenacious and determined. Possessing tremendous willpower and self-discipline, they are inclined to stick to tried and traditional methods. Their greatest satisfaction derives from results produced directly by their personal efforts.

Roots are important to the Taurean. A sense of permanence, a feeling of security is essential. Generally an easygoing person, slow to anger, but once roused is known for a ferocious temper. Very difficult to deal with when angry. Usually set off by jealousy due to a possessive nature. Loyalty is important to a Taurus, and a true friend of a Taurean will speak well of their great generosity.

Taureans are warm, loving, gentle and charming most of the time. Motivated by self preservation, the Taurean is not a risk taker and weighs every decision carefully, in a slow and methodical manner. To more impulsive people, Taurus is a bore. Opinionated, stubborn, once a Taurean makes a decision, it is written in stone. Don't expect original thinking and new ideas here. Basically physical people, they prefer the known to the unknown, the tried to the new. They love the earth, possessions, and generally treat those they love as possessions.

Prosperous at developing and maintaining wealth, Taureans do well in banking and finance. In business, they shine in fields concerned with the earth and money. Architect, builder, gardener or accountant, financier, banker, auctioneer, real estate broker, are all professions which attract a Taurus. They may possess a good singing voice as music may be said to be a Taurean art. Many well known performers are born under Taurus, such as Barbara Streisand and Bing Crosby. Many Taureans have a 'green thumb' and find real pleasure in gardening. Gifted with a natural artistic nature, they also may excel as crafts workers.

Persistence, thoroughness and single-mindedness that can take on dogmatic qualities are the hallmarks of the Taurean personality. No detail will ever be overlooked by the eyes of a Taurus. Motivated by a desire to obtain and accumulate physical possessions, they can be compulsive in their intensity to secure an ample supply of everything they consider important.

Honesty, integrity and dependability are notable Taurean characteristics. The calm, pleasant, and well intentioned Taurus exterior belies the volcanic temper that can erupt when sufficiently aroused. The bright side of the stubborn bull's nature is, they are incredibly and uncompromisingly loyal to their friends. Established slowly, a Taurus friendship can, and often does last a lifetime.

Origins in Mythology

Ere the heels of flying Capricorn
Have touched the western mountain's darkening rim,
I mark, stern Taurus, through the twilight gray,
   The glinting of thy horn,
And sullen front, uprising large and dim,
Bent to the starry Hunter's sword at bay.

Bayard Taylor, Hymn to Taurus

Taurus is one of the elder signs in the zodiac. In earlier ages the vernal equinox was located within the realm of the bull, roughly during 4,000-1,700 BCE, whereas today it is to found within Aries. As the commencement of harvest was integral to ancient cultures, the year began with Taurus. The widely asked question about why Astrology begins with Aries, and not with the first month of the year finds its answer in this tradition.

To the Greeks, Taurus is associated with Zeus and his transformation into a snowy white Bull. This he did as a means to abduct Europa, whom he lusted for. Thus, the Minotaur of Crete, result of this union of God and mortal, is also recognized as being associated with the second sign of the zodiac. Through many cultures across the world the constellation of Taurus is perceived as a bull or similar animal. The Egyptians gave great significance to the sky cluster in both religion and astrology; the great starry bull of the Nile. Halfway around the globe, small tribes living along the Amazon river in South America, called this section of the night sky: Tapüra Rayoaba, the Jaw of the Ox. It is certainly a hard constellation to miss! As one of the densest groupings, there are, by varying accounts, between 120 and 190 stars within it, visible to the naked eye.
Earthlore Explorations Lore of Astrology: Egyptian Goddess Hathor
The Goddess Hathor of Egypt
was often associated with Taurus.

In the Mediterranean region, the Sun's entry into Taurus was celebrated as the Feast of Maya. We know it as May Day, the first of the month. The Sun was often represented by a white bull with a golden disc between his horns. This image was followed by a procession of virgins, exemplifying the fecundity of nature. This association of Taurus with the beginning of Spring, can be traced as far back as ancient Babylon. In Egypt, Taurus held an even greater importance, as it was believed that humanity was created while the sun was passing through its borders.

Is this a Taurus holiday or what? All about loving yourself and others, and about treating yourself and others with love. I never sulked during years when I didn't have a valentine, because who is gonna sulk about a day that revolves around chocolate?! This morning I received a beautiful heart-shaped box of Godiva, and I gave my Taurus beau a box of Godiva white chocolate (so he doesn't eat mine, of course!! ha!...just kidding about that last comment...)

I agree! This is the perfect holiday for us!

what makes us taureans
I have to agree to a lot of the things that have been said about us, taureans.  I am new to this group, but I have seen a lot of you have the same qulities as me.  I am very lazy and materialistic. I love to eat and it has to be good food!!!!  I have to agree on the possesive part and the hot temper.  I blow up when provoked, it takes a while but when I'm ready, watch out!!! It's pretty cool to see all of you as you are people I can surely relate to.

I can sure relate to those characteristics. I do live through my senses.  The smell of a lake in early spring or of fresh-cut wood or the ocean just makes me smile.  Other scents -- especially being behind a municipal solid waste truck on the highway

Also, I work very hard, but I appreciate my lazy times, too. And, I love good food, especially if I don't have to cook it -- or at least clean up the kitchen

My eldest is also a Taurean, which makes for some interesting mother-daughter situations

I have many of taurean traits!
I also rationalize lots & my best friend has to hear me go on and on about something that happened.
I'm very picky with my food! I love good quality food so I know i will enjoy it lots.
Im very possessive, even over people sometimes haha, which I try not to do too much.
I love seeing the beauty in things and living through my sences, you can always find me listening to music, or looking at pretty photographs.
I HATE change, & even though it can be bad to get into a routine sometimes, I feel much happier having one.
When that routine gets broken, I feel all confused and moody haha.
Im also very determined, which I think is a great taurean quality.
I wouldn't be anything else but a Taurus. It might be biased but i do think it's one of the best signs!
