SHARE sells food through a co-op, at very reduced prices to anyone who does 2 hrs a month of volunteer work any place in the community including giving support on line. 

$20 will get you enough food to feed a family of 4 for 4 days (or 1 person for 1 week) of top quality nutritional food. 

This is open to anyone and has no income guidlines.  Also if you can not volunteer the requirement is waived.

If you do not find it offered in your state, call a nearby state to see if they know of one in your state (just ran out of energy to call each one)

I used them years ago when my children were little ones and I was a single parent. I volunteered at the local domestic violence shelter for my volunteer duty. I think you can even volunteer to help disburse the food also. The food was good, fresh, and always a nice surprise to see what they gave you. I wish there were more programs like this. Thank you so much for posting this because I have looked for them high and low in my state to no avail until you posted the number for me. I called and they have it about 20 miles from me. I haven't seen anything for Canada yet.  Do you know in church or program that would want to start one?  I'm sure any of the above mentioned ones would be glad to assist a new one starting!
