Katrinas impact on Sm/Med Nonprofits September 25, 2005 9:37 AM

I`m seeing my local charities being impacted because people who they normally would depend upon for donations and support are naturally directing their attention to meeting the needs of the Katrina victims, both human and animal.

Please post your views here regarding this residual side effect of the Katrina tragedy.

you're right donna...

initially,i didn't respond to this subject, since there was no impact at first... now, as my org. is gearing up for our annual toy drive and "winter needs", we are not having any response.

we would like to, and we need to solicit funding at this time, but we are faced with "competing" with NGO's helping katrina victims.

we're trying to figure out a way, not to take away from katrina assistance, but how to bring awareness to our own orgs. job to assist.  (www.icota.org) and if you chose to peek at the site, please excuse the typo's and layout is all in the process of being corrected and changed.  a big apology!!! but at least you can get an idea of what our org is about...

anyway...there are a plethora of great orgs that are facing the same situation now.

Thankyou for weighing in. It is so incredibly sad when these many needy causes end up competing with each other. Obviously when a disaster comes along like Katrina, and before that the Tsunami, we can expect all eyes to focus on them but then when we start feeling the residual impact it is indeed tragedy revisited on all of us.  [ send green star]

anonymous BIG BIG IMPACT ON CHILDREN WITH CANCER October 19, 2005 5:09 PM

I had to wait several times yet find I MUST at least send in a reply

We have a small charity Quilts 4 Cancer (.com) a 501C3 charity  we coordinate volunteers across the country to make simple quilts for the 15,000 + NEW   yes I said NEW cases of CANCER IN OUR AMERICAN CHILDREN  and  with the groups  they promise a number of quilts  for the Holiday events.  For many children it is their last Holiday on this earth

WELL KATRINA  TOOK THE QUILTS   well the quilters decided the people of the Gulf needed to come first and for some things YET but how do I tell all these cities and towns across the country  WE HAVE NO QUILTS AS PROMISED ?    MANY invationas pr etc have gone out on the word of the American Quilters yet now   no way

The one area with the most desperate need is : Washington DC area

PLEASE IF YOU KNOW A QUILTER OR SOMEONE WHO SEWS SIMPLE QUILTS even two pc of fabric  SIZE 40 " x 60 OR LARGER  think of some teens and their size  and   yes it is hard on the familes of the children as well

I know what it is like to see a loved one with cancer from a few months old to the age of 83  we have had cancer in our family and well

I ONLY WANT TO GIVE COMFOT TO THOSE FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES !

thanks for letting me "share"  PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU CAN FOR ME !

was based in New Orleans.  They lost everything and have started again in another state.

"Dedicated to the protection of abused children, Kourts for Kids is going to bat for them by supporting an increase in awareness and education and promoting change within regions where protection can and should be improved."

Wendy Titleman is a strong woman, in spite of the abuse she has experienced in the courts.  She is making a difference and deserves all the help she can get.
